MorataFC:
I think you may have misunderstood my position.
I’m not “holding brief” for Adelabu, and I’m certainly not saying Nigerians should accept failure. My point is simply about the scale of the structural problem in the power sector.
Reports show that Nigeria has been transmitting roughly around 4,000 MW since about 2010. Now we are in 2026,about 16 years later, after massive population growth and development. Do we honestly expect that same capacity to still be sufficient for today’s demand?
Naturally, demand has increased significantly, yet the grid capacity has not expanded proportionally.
Even if Adelabu introduces another pricing structure tomorrow, let’s say a new Band system where electricity costs even ₦2000 per unit, without adding significant megawatts to the national grid, the fundamental problem will still persist.
Pricing reforms alone cannot manufacture electricity.
You also mentioned solar adoption. In reality, the growing shift to solar actually confirms that the national grid is under severe pressure, because people are looking for alternatives outside the system.
Even if Nigeria were to bring one million power technocrats into the country today, will they arrive with 20,000 megawatts of electricity in their luggage? Of course not. They would still have to start with the same limited megawatts currently available on the grid.

There is a Yoruba adage that captures this situation well:
“Amúkùún ẹrù ẹ wò.”
And the reply is: “Òkè l’ẹ̀ ń wo, ẹ ò wo ìsàlẹ̀.”
In other words, people often look only at the surface of the problem, without considering the deeper underlying issues.
So my point remains simple: Nigeria’s power crisis will likely continue to worsen unless there is a significant increase in megawatts added to the national grid. Demand for electricity keeps rising as the population grows, more development that use power yet the supply capacity has barely expanded, until Nigeria significantly increases generation and transmission capacity, the electricity problem will remain difficult for any minister to solve, No matter how competent or experienced the Minister of Power may be,whether it is Adelabu or anyone else, the outcome will not fundamentally change without major additions of megawatts to the grid.

The real solution lies not in personalities, but in massive investment and expansion of power infrastructure.
Okay, I hear u loud and clear.

But u also need to hear me; What has Adelabu done to actualize the promise his principal Tinubu made in 2022/2023 when he promised improved power supply before 2027?

2027 is just next year and we are here discussing how things have turned from bad to worse under Adelabu.

One thing is dislike is when we have all agreed in tbe past that things are not going well and We should replace current handlers with new ones who may have better ideas. Then we do, same people we all had that agreement together will suddenly start talking about how things cannot get better even if we change people over and over again ( which seem to suggest we should make do with the current failures who only got there because we displeased the previous failures)

This right here is why I would not subscribe to any attempt to make it seem like the current state of governance we have under APC is the best we can get even when they got there only because we kicked PDP out for not being as terrible as this.

Both of them need to leave to create room for new additions.
I support both players leaving; Martinelli on the account of how he has failed to improve over the years and Trossard on account of old age.

It can be so frustrating watching Martinelli trying to dribble/beat his man either losing the ball most of the times or only winning corner as consolation for his efforts. Martinelli only gives one joy with his forward sprint and finish during counterattacks. Once he has a full back close in on him during open play, he will just mess things up. He doesn't even dribble like a typical Brazilian like dem Raphinah.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 12:48pm On Mar 09
MorataFC:
It will still get worse, why?
Because Nigeria has experienced significant growth in electricity demand. More houses have been built, more industries have emerged, and far more electrical appliances are being used across the country. All these increase pressure on the grid. Yet the generation capacity has remained roughly around the same 5,000 MW level that existed at the end of buhari administration.

Has there been any new major addition to the national power grid?
So naturally, the strain on the power system will appear worse today because demand keeps increasing while supply has barely moved.
I don't know where you are getting your data from, but I beg to disagree with you that things will get worse.

We have more existing customers moving to Solar power and even new houses being built are equipped with solar panels and inverters.

I said You are making excuse for failure you said no, but you are literally doubling down on your initial post without telling us what exactly Adelabu whom you are holding brief for has done either improve power generation or power transmission. I take it that you are not speaking from the position of deep knowledge of Adelabu's efforts to make things better, rather you are speaking as someone who has already conditioned his mind to accept things will get worse even if a power sector technocrat replaces Adelabu.

We know he sold the idea that things will get better once people pay more, but the opposite has been the case.

Can you please tell us what and what he has done to improve our lot but those efforts have defied the odds?

MorataFC:
If you read my post carefully, you should know that I’m not defending or justify failure.
I started by saying there are certain jobs one should decline, no matter how lucrative they appear, and Nigeria’s power ministry is one of them.
No matter how hard you try in that position, people will still call you out because the rots in that sector can not be addressed obernight and the ministry itself is extremely demanding.
Imagine being responsible for serving 100 people when the resources available to you can barely serve 5. How do you cope in such a situation?
That is essentially the reality facing Adelabu.

What past governments failed to address for over 65 years, we now expect one person to fix in less than a year. What kind of magic do we expect him to perform?
So I’m not defending him, I’m simply stating the facts.
You can quote me anywhere, as things stand in this country today, there is nobody, let me repeat, nobody, who can be appointed Minister of Power and completely transform the electricity situation within a year 2 or 3. It doesn’t matter whether the person comes from Nigeria, America, or anywhere else in the world, but it is gradual process, I believe we will get there .
The scale of the problem is far beyond what one individual or one tenure can fix.

Just to put things in perspective, last year I read that China generates over 3.3 million megawatts of electricity, while Nigeria struggles to transmit about 4,500 to 5,000 megawatts for a population of over 230 million people. That alone shows how deep the challenge really is.
This ur post is a repeat of the original post and u still failed to address the points I raised in mine.

Was Adelabu appointed minister to make an already bad situation worse? You keep saying nobody can completely transform electricity situation within 2 to 3 years window, but what you are not saying is "Adelabu has made the power situation worse within a 3 year window".

What has Adelabu done other than introduce the Band system that makes consumers pay premium and get served shitty service? You keep talking about how other administration have not bettered our lot and should be held responsible for the comatose state of the power , so who should we blame for the regression in the past 3 years ?

Bart nnaij is in geometric and he will tell you that they cannot break even at the current power rates. He will also tell you all the political challenges geometric faced. His brilliance as an engineer made no difference to the fortunes of geometric or to power supply in abia.
But we have given Adelabu more money through the band system and power situation has gone from bad to worse. Shebi if we see improvement as a result of the increment in tarriffs through the band system, we will reason along the line of money problem u postulated. That has not been the case at all.

Here u are saying Bart Nnaji's Geompetric power plant cannot break even at the current rates, but You are not saying he won't provide stable power supply. I take it that you are saying someone like Nnaji if given what we have given Adelabu , he will give us premium service which is expected. So why not take out Adelabu and put somehow who actually knows what he is doing and let's have the money discussion afterwards?

No?

MorataFC:
There are some jobs one should decline, no matter how attractive the offer may be.
The Ministry of Power in Nigeria is one of them. Even you, if you were appointed as Minister of Power today, there is very little you could achieve within a short time.
Take Babatunde Fashola for example. He was widely regarded as a highly competent and capable man. Yet many people believe that accepting the power ministry ultimately dented his reputation, to the point that critics mockingly referred to him as the “Minister of Darkness.”

So, Experts estimate that Nigeria needs about 30,000 to 40,000 megawatts of electricity to enjoy stable power supply. but the country still struggles to generate around 5,000 megawatts on average since independence, that was over 65 years ago, since Nigeria stands alone.
The question then is, what miracle can any Minister of Power perform within four years to produce the additional 25,000 or 35,000 megawatts that successive governments have failed to deliver over the past 65 years?
Nigeria’s past governments are the ones that failed woefully in power generation, not the current Minister of Power.

Let’s swap the current best performing minister, David Umahi, to the Ministry of Power and see, if he can perform magic there. 🤣😂😂
You are literally making this post to justify failure.

Nothing concern me with Fashola or any other failed minister. Nobody expects Adelabu to perform miracle, but we are not expecting things to get worse under his tenure as minister. We expect things to get better when government takes over from another because ideally governance should be continuum, but the opposite is the case here.

Adelabu came up with the theory that making consumers pay more via the band system would translate to improved power supply. Tho most of us never believed him, were forced to go along with it in hope that when premium price is paid; premium service would be delivered. But what do we have today? Your guess is as good as mine, things have turned out for worse.

As bad as Buhari's administration was, things were not as bad as this in the power sector. Haba! If Adelabu cannot better our lot, he should please resign abeg and go face his governorship ambition in his state. Let someone who can even keep things at status quo replace him instead of the nonsense he's serving us.

Anybody following the war in real time will know that it will take years for Iran to get back to their Pre-war position considering the level of shelling they have received to their military, economic and human assets. Their navy has been run ragged, their Airforce has seen premium shege, most IRGC command bases and military installations have been seriously hit across the Persian nation. Their military hierarchy can't even have meeting to discuss tactical course of action without risking being bombed to blazes in their own country.

https://guardian.ng/news/petrol-price-may-hit-n1400-litre-as-dangote-refinery-loading-stalls/

When some of us were saying no to Dangote getting monopoly for PMS supply in Nigeria , we know what we are saying. We know energy security should be the guiding principle for the regulators in the oil & gas space and granting Dangote the monopoly he craves will always jeopardize that.

Dangote is bearing his fangs cancelling existing supply agreements, forbidding customers to load at already agreed price and forcing them to kowtow to his new pricing that has nothing to do with the war (since the product are already refined even before the war and the existing agreement should guarantee they get to load at existing price).

Let importation continue and let him continue to battle things out with importers so the consumers can buy at the most competitive price.

In 2010, a member of the Iranian regime did actually imported arms into this country called Nigeria. The arms were disguised as "construction materials"

Another cache of arms funneled to Nigeria by the Iranian regime through their proxy (Hezbollah) was uncovered in Kano in the year 2013.

NOTE: These are the ones that were intercepted/uncovered by security forces. Do we know how many of such shipments made it through before and after these periods?

One thing that stood out for this present arsenal team which most naysayers and critics are not talking about is DISCIPLINE!

Yes, Arsenal has not conceded a red card from reckless or serous foul play this season. It just seem every player that has been fortunate to play for the team this season have kept their head in check ; no reckless tackle, no last man foul and no careless handling of the ball in our box by any outfield player.

Even when things are not going our way, the boys have remained cool headed and have refused to allow frustration make then concede unnecessary foul that would reduce our numbers advantage.

In fact, I can't recall us conceding any penalty in the league till now. The only penalty I remember us conceding was the one vs Kairat in the champions league. That particular penalty was as a result of Calafiori stewpidly pulling the Kairat player's shirt which was caught by VAR. It's no surprise that Arteta has used same Calafiori sparingly this season, perhaps it's due to his ability to switch off which can lead him to committing reckless foul like that very one.

Long and short, kudos to the boys and Arteta for turning out game after game as a disciplined unit. This is definitely one of the reasons why we are 7 points clear at the top of the EPL and currently have a 100% win record in the UCL this season.
