Yeah, it's the 10k clause that's scary. And it doesn't reduce according to the contract I read. This means I cant leave no matter what since they know I won't be able to pay. I also have to work 9 months on probation. Whatever that means. I had to think very deeply today and realized, my life is actually gonna be in their hands. I have no leverage at all. Also while searching for other home care jobs, I realised their package isn't GOOD at all compared to others. So, what's the stress?. They only offer osce payment, visa and flight ticket. Others I have seen offer these things too plus dbs check, uniform, paid break and leave, launch meal, 2k welcome bonus. One even say dem go pay vacation and also 1k end of the year bonus(5k if you have worked with them for 5 years). My own home care no even give holiday break.. I will work even on holidays on standard rates(other I have seen actually pay more on these days)

I accepted the offer few days and we were at the stage of getting COS, something just mentioned to me.. "do you actually want to be a slave?"
The very next minute, I emailed them explaining why I want to withdraw my application due to personal reasons.
I wouldn't want them to send the COS cause I will be stuck since multiple companies can't provide COS for me at the same time.

I don dust my trac application again.

About my comment on NHS, there is career growth, more flexible working hours, and lesser work load. Also, NHS no fit do the kind wayo some home care fit do.
Like @hunnybee said, what if I made a mistake or dem just wan rope me and decide to take their sponsorship?? I don't think this is common with NHS as it is with home care.
Although, I'm still searching for both but with more focus on hospital now.
What you did is right. The no holiday pay is the height of it sad. What is their base salary/ hourly rate? I understand that some care homes pay higher hourly rate and don't pay for breaks

And you're also correct about the flexible working hours NHS offers. I understand that this is particularly important for people with kids. I doubt that lesser work load thing. About the career progression, yes and no. If it is career progression in relation to money, then no It will take years to earn 40k+ with NHS.

BTW, what do you have want to you career progression to do in Nursing? When you hwve your ILR, nurses can easily move to agency nursing. More money like 28£ hourly or upto 40+£ when it is a late notice booking and more flexibility. You pick when you want to work. The only but is the fact that you don't know where your next shift will be.

That's true o, when I saw their package, I just laughed, Some care homes have good offers though. May God grant our heart desires, be it NHS or Care homes, they are both worth it. I've finally gotten an NHS offer, I'm really grateful to God. I still have pending NHS interview invites, it took me 2 months to get here.
What's the base pay of this Care UK‽ So as to help people avoid wasting time by applying to them.

Congrats ma'am. How una dey do am?
I have never gotten an interview from nhs talk more of offer. I don tire.
I got an offer from a care home..a conditional offer with a £10k clause(I will pay should I leave before the 3-year contract). That's scary.

I wish for an NHS offer so bad
That's normal, but what's not normal is the 10k being constant. Normally it reduces year after year

I wish for an NHS offer so bad I wish to hear what you have to say after few years of working with NHS grin

I agree with you. It’s alter madness to be doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Until those dinosaurs are flushed out of government, Nigeria will never move forward only backwards.
On a lighter mood, doing the same thing and expecting a different result works in machine learning grin .

Please can you different briefly on pros and cons between nhs and care homes so aspiring nurses aiming for uk would make the proper choice for themselves.... thanks
I did mention that
NHS = so much work less pay angry.
Carehome = average work more pay cool.

As far as I know, a registered nurse working in a care home isn't less of a nurse than that working in NHS. All boils down to what rocks your boat.
You wouldn't be missing out on anything should you decide on working in a care home. Depending on the care home, you will have trainings upon trainings, enough to help your revalidation portfolio with NMC.

I think there's this misconception about working with care homes that you're missing out. Technically in a care home you're the boss of your shift in the sense that you only have to call a GP or ambulance if your patient requires and less hierarchical palava to deal with.

Some people made the wrong decision of going with NHS and can't wait to finish their initial contract then move to a care home. Heck some even jumped the NHS ship ASAP.
Need I say that some care home pay 40k+ as starting salary. How many years would it take to get to this point in NHS?

In short, NHS = Nigerian government job
Care home = working with private entities.

So it boils down to personal preference of what motivated you to travel thousands miles to start a new life. Don't forget that even the government only raised NHS pay by about 1% and prices of groceries and utilities are increasing by the day, yet salary nor increase.

There are nurses that only do agency jobs and will never pick a shift in NHS. E get why.

NHS nurses are overworked and paid less. I repeat NHS nurses are overworked and paid less.
TravelRe: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by Bluetherapy: 10:00pm On Dec 03, 2021
Seems like there seems to a misconception about Care homes and NHS and I just think I should chip in somethings.

I would recommend going with a care home anytime any day because compared to NHS, it is less stressful and often pay better albeit with the salary not really increasing.

Trust me, NHS will work you out to the extent you will hate nursing grin.

I really don't seem to understand why people prefer NHS tho. Maybe for the pity tho cheesy.

Apply online and print out all required documents, if you need your passport before early-mid next year then pay for fast track, basically you buy £120 worth of postal order plus application fees. I was there a week a go or so, went there without waiting for appointment and spoke to embassy staff who told me point blank that if i need that passport anytime soon that i should pay for fast track and i did that and got the passport few days later.

Prepare yourself for a long day there, the two halls were full and over flowing.
I can imagine the probability of other NLenders' were also there without knowing it was you grin

I would advice you to use your virtual equity, copy a few traders, buy some shares, index funds, etf's (don't buy CFD's)......... Etc etc

Then download apps like barrons, Insider, stock screener, stocxy etc etc

Watch YouTube videos (Sasha Yanshin, Peter komolafe)..... etc etc

Educate yourself.......

NB : Your stock positions would turn red..... You never lose money, unless you sell, a losing position......

Don't get emotional with shares, once you hit a high % you have set, feel free to sell position........

Copy teatea_chi (she knows the markets, like a pro).......

The beauty of copying trades, is you can view their portfolio in real time..... Then simply buy positions, they buy...... cheesy

Look through apps posted, and download investment apps.....

Investing in shares is good, if you have a long term view......
Sir are you a journalist?

Reminds me of people that play lotto with their plenty and big lotto papers for forecasting grin

Seems like you don't understand. Are you buying a house ? Because I only know this to happen when you're buying a house not renting it shocked I don't understand why you will be bidding to rent an apartment. This is clear desperation. I just hope you understand what you're offering for (no hidden charges)!

The apartment is probably overpriced already!

Please I need an urgent help. I am to fly to UK to resume school on Saturday, the 25th of September. What day can I do the COVID-19 Test? Can I book an hotel ahead for the compulsory self-isolation on my arrival to UK?.
Yes, you can book an hotel, Airbnb, I have also read that hostels are allowed.

When to take your test
You can take the test any time in the 3 days before the service on which you will arrive in England departs.

For example, if you travel directly to England on Friday, you could take a test any time on the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The test result must be available for boarding.

Good afternoon great minds, i was told it's very difficult to get a Senior care giver job from Nigeria.......the person said people who are already working in UK as a care giver can only get a job as a Senior care giver.....pls how true is thishuh

I av a registered Nurse beside me, who could not meet up with her IELTS required bands to move to UK ase a registered nurse. She is now considering the Skilled work visa/Health work visa. She want to look into how to get a Senior care giver job with an employer who will provide COS.

Pls how possible is this?? Kindly help Pls.

God bless you.
Please tell her to put that energy into passing IELTS. Will she just put 5 years of tedious studying away just to move to the UK?

Even if she's thinking of doing her IELTS in the UK to register as a nurse, she will still have the same problem passing and probably worse due to the accent.

In short, she should use the energy she's using to look for senior care to try acing IELTS, if possible try getting a tutor. I know she can do it if only she believes and perseveres wink

I appreciate.

The Tfl app doesn't seem to have the option to pay for a trip. Please how do I book a trip let's say from London city airport to Heathrow ahead of time??
Just like the previous person said, you need to be able to transport your luggages because there's no direct connection except if you book Uber which is about £53+.

From what I know, you can't book the ticket beforehand because you will be using tfl transport and you're better off tapping your bank card at the gate. You will spend around £4 on the whole join.

You can use citymapper to check your connections.

Transit visa is mandatory unless you hold visit visa for countries like US and Canada. Read up on both airlines website. I understand people from Nigeria have not been allowed to board as they are unaware of this requirement. The rules changed in January following the end of the transition period for uk's exit from the EU.

I believe this has also led to a spike in the number of people choosing to travel with the likes of Qatar.
You're right flying through an EU country with UK BRP or passport requires a transit visa thanks to BREXIT!

Hello y'all,

I'd like to inquire about the transportation in London. I'll be visiting the UK in a bit and would like to know more about the apps, I could use in booking different trips( trains, buses) within London and UK.
Also, how far is London city airport from Heathrow. Is LCY close to the city center?
Where can I possibly book a train from LCY to Heathrow?
Thanks.
I find Google maps more useful than citymapper and moveit. Google maps has the ability of showing you underground and overground platform numbers for trains which the apps I mentioned don't.

For tickets, thetrainline.com is the common place to go. Or simply google LCY to LHR for example.

In short, google maps to the rescue.

Just reserved a one-way ticket to UK from Nigeria with Emirates directly on their website for 261, 000 for the 20th of September. I used the promo code STUDENT, ehich gave a 10% discount and an extra luggage amounting to a total of 3*23kg.

This code is only for students but none students can use AUMCC17 or ESMADRD. I don't know the term and conditions for these.

I will recommend information security/Cybersecurity. It's a struggle to recruit people into the field. We have done 3 different recruitment campaigns in my team with no success. If the person is hardworking, the person can start earning up to 40-50k within 2-3 years. It is worth mentioning that the person will need to keep learning as you will need to be knowledgeable about other IT fields.
There was no applicant or no one successfully passed the recruitment stages?

This is referring to social care costs, not medical treatment.
In other words, when you are old (or not old) and in need of care, if your bills over your lifetime for your eldercare and whatnot exceed 86k, the government will pay the rest. If you have less than 20k in assets when you need care (not only eldercare), then you wont have to pay towards the cost of your care.

Prior to this, elderly people sometimes have to sell their homes to cover the costs of social care.
The NHS remains free at the point of use (it is funded from general taxation).
I see, thanks for the enlightenment.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Bluetherapy: 3:39pm On Sep 07, 2021
In layman's term, does this mean that going forward, the NHS coverage will only be free for a total of £86, 000 worth of service over the course one's life time?

Like you have £86000 worth of credit points to use? These tax never reach? Is the social system -NhS....- amongst many others not the reason why many people choose the UK over USA. If these things shrink without increase in pay, no be to go USA go hustle the money then?

Because taxes dey increase salary no dey increase, which kind life be this huh huh

This might have been discussed previously.
Amazon partnered with some training schools to offer a 12 weeks tuition free course on AWS that’s guaranteed to land an entry role.

It’s focused on unemployed or underemployed people. You don’t need a STEM degree to enroll, but you must be a resident in the UK and have right to work.

So, I think it would be useful for dependants who are struggling to get a job in the UK.

You can check out the companies carrying out the training in the UK here.

The best route for you should be through college. Most colleges gives you the work experience alongside theory . After which you’ll do some exams and then go back to complete your portfolio (installing not less than 5 boilers). Once portfolio is complete you submit and go back to college to do the exams (practical demonstration) ….
Hope you have driving licence?
That's nice then. Actually I'm just getting the information for later, maybe for someone else or me grin
