Punch Newspaper Buhari leaves Abuja for Nairobi, London for two-week medical checkup. Hmmm with fuelscacity, epileptic power supply, increasing inflation rate and ASUU strike which is affecting our educational system. Indeed, we have been hypnotised. Suffering and smiling. I think religion and culture is really destroying our country in operating as a sane clime.

Apart from the Ezza-speaking clan, particularly the people of Umuezeokoha that has over 300 villages, if you are to calculate the number of Igbo-speaking villages in Benue State, outside Umuezeokaoha, you would be talking altogether about over 600 villages. We are the engine room;the power house of Nigeria economy ;every nation heart beats; is there economic prowess and strength. Igbos in charge of Nigeria’s economy’ – Buhari “There is no town you will visit in Nigeria without seeing the Igbos being in charge of economic activities.” Igbos are like palm trees in the desert. If you see palm trees, you know water is there. If you see an Igbo in a town, you know progress is there. Not as if they go where progress is. They themselves are seed of progress that yield harvests of progress. To have a proper understanding of what the Igbo have achieved, consider that every Igbo man, woman and child in Nigeria was reduced to £20 after the civil war in 1970. But look at how far they have come since then. They turned adversity to prosperity. No ethnic group are as Nigerian as the Igbo. An Igbo builds his family, his house and his businesses in whatever part of Nigeria he finds himself. They do not exploit other regions. They expand other regions. It is a disservice to treat them as unwanted. Instead of making Igbos feel unwelcome, leaders should welcome them. Anyone who thinks the Igbo really want to break away does not understand economics. In 2003, Elrufai revealed Igbos own 73% of land in Abuja. Google it. That is commitment to Nigeria. This idea that Igbo come to exploit other regions is unscientific. Igbos create value. They do not take value already created. Example, by opening shops, Igbos create value by meeting a need. Without Igbo, the price of spare-parts in the North will be x4. It might shock you to know there are more Igbo doctors practicing in other parts of Nigeria than in the SE. Thousands of Igbos are battling Boko Haram in the NE. These are critical values. People who bring such value should be celebrated, not denigrated. In my opinion, Nigeria made a mistake dismantling Biafra’s military industrial complex after Biafra’s 1970 defeat. The allies defeated Germany in 1945 but absorbed their scientists into their military industrial complex. Biafra developed technology that Nigeria could have exploited. We have issues fighting Boko Haram because we depend on others for weapons. Biafra was surrounded, yet they made their weapons and refined fuel. Nigeria is not surrounded, yet we cannot make weapons or refine fuel! We could have been making our own weapons by now. While I was writing this, I received news that Sergeant Blessing Onyekwere, a Nigerian of Igbo origin, was killed by Boko Haram as he fought to keep Nigeria safe. Blessing and others like him are the reason why we should do away with the philosophy of Lagos for Yorubas and Kano for Hausas. I do not know if Igbos understand their power. If every Igbo man, woman and child living in Nigeria returns home for a year, the economies of five geopolitical zones may collapse. You cannot say this about any other ethnicity. Treat Igbos well. Not for their sake. But for your region’s sake. A liability consumes more than what he produces. The Igbos are not like that. Wherever they go, they produce more than they consume. In accounting terms, that makes them an ASSET wherever they are. Igbos only think they are being marginalised. If only they knew! God is using the marginalisation of Igbos for His purpose. I met an Igbo mayor of a major American city. Many Igbo are mayors/MPs in Europe. An Igbo is being considered as a future British PM. Like Jews, the more you marginalise Igbos locally, the more they leave to thrive globally. It is the destiny of the Igbo race to restore the fortunes of the Black Race worldwide. Their crucifixion is meant to prepare them for their benediction. Proudly Igboman.

yyba:Alex Ekwueme; founding father PDP Following Abacha’s death in June 1998, the government announced that democratic elections would be held the following year, ending 16 years of military rule. In preparation for the election, political parties were formed, including the PDP. Alex Ekwueme, a former vice president of the country, was the first party chairman. Ogbonaya Onu ;Founding father APC 2010, as National Chairman of the defunct ANPP, he initiated discussions with the leadership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN} on how all the major opposition political parties could work together to effect change in the politics of the country. Later he also initiated meetings with the National Chairmen of all major opposition political parties. All these efforts and many others, finally resulted in the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change, (CPC), and groups from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP). Hence on July 31, 2013, the All Progressives Congress (APC), came into existence. Dr. Onu and other party leaders willingly gave up their positions as INEC withdrew the registration of ACN, ANPP and CPC. On November 26, 2013, the new PDP, broke away from the ruling political party and joined the APC. This helped make the APC, the largest opposition political party in the history of the country. Some political lessons.

mfm04622:The South-East Shippers Association has protested the constant suspension of activities at Onitsha River Port in Anambra State. The group said that Onitsha port is a natural deposit which Nigeria should focus on the revenue it generates rather than politics of ethnicity. The President of Anambra State Shippers Association, Mr. Emma Akpaka, in a protest letter described the suspension of activities at the port as politically motivated against the Southeast zone. The group lamented the dilapidated Niger road that connects the River port to the Main Market that has become a death trap for the users. “We see it as political sabotage against us. We don’t want what happened to Warri port to happen in Onitsha port. Warri Wharf was labeled a gateway for arms and ammunition. Those who should protest were silent because they did not know it was conspiracy, until those who were illegally disengaged moved to the creeks to forment trouble. When Onitsha River port became operational in 2017, we celebrated and expected that going forward, Onitsha will be in the same page with Jakarta in Indonesia, Guangzhou in China, Bangkok in Thailand among others. Indeed that expectation was right, but there is no enabling environment to augment the contributions of the Federal Ministry of Transport. Niger Street, the only road that links the wharf to Onitsha main market has collapsed. Our expectation since 2017 is that this road would be rehabilitated with speed. But the road is so bad that any heavy-duty truck that tries to pass through it must fall. “Therefore, Anambra State shipper are calling on the state government to come to our aid immediately by giving this road a facelift. this under the guise of internally generated revenue. This action has frustrated many of our customers. Opened ;and neglected three decades ago; The Federal Government has announced it has agreed to a 30-year concession for the Onitsha River Port, adding that the move will generate N50 billion and create jobs. This was disclosed in a statement by Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the decision, according to NAN. The ICRC also added that the concession was approved under a Rehabilitate-Operate and Transfer (ROT) arrangement. Onitsha River Port the port will serve as an alternative source of transporting goods to the South East from Lagos, Port Harcourt and other areas with adequate water connectivity, it is one of Nigeria’s four river ports including Lokoja, Kogi State; Baro in Niger State and Oguta in Imo State. “The Onitsha River Port was officially opened over three decades ago but has been neglected and not being optimally utilised.

By air, land, and sea, Russia has launched a devastating attack on Ukraine, a European democracy of 44 million people, and its forces are on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv. For months, President Vladimir Putin denied he would invade his neighbour, but then he tore up a peace deal, sending forces across borders in Ukraine's north, east and south. As the number of dead climbs, he stands accused of shattering peace in Europe. What happens next could jeopardise the continent's entire security structure. Why have Russian troops attacked? Russian troops are closing in on Ukraine's capital, days after Russia's leader ordered a full-scale invasion from the north, east and south. In a pre-dawn TV address on 24 February, he declared Russia could not feel "safe, develop and exist" because of what he claimed was a constant threat from modern Ukraine. Airports and military headquarters were hit first then tanks and troops rolled into Ukraine from Russia, Russian-annexed Crimea and ally Belarus. Many of President Putin's arguments were false or irrational. He claimed his goal was to protect people subjected to bullying and genocide and aim for the "demilitarisation and de-Nazification" of Ukraine. There has been no genocide in Ukraine: it is a vibrant democracy, led by a president who is Jewish. "How could I be a Nazi?" said Volodymr Zelensky, who likened Russia's onslaught to Nazi Germany's invasion in World War Two. Ukraine's chief rabbi and the Auschwitz Memorial have also rejected Mr Putin's slur. President Putin has frequently accused Ukraine of being taken over by extremists, ever since its pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych, was ousted in 2014 after months of protests against his rule. Russia then retaliated by seizing the southern region of Crimea and triggering a rebellion in the east, backing separatists who have fought Ukrainian forces in a war that has claimed 14,000 lives. Late in 2021, Russia began deploying big numbers of troops close to Ukraine's borders, while repeatedly denying it was going to attack. Then Mr Putin scrapped a 2015 peace deal for the east and recognised areas under rebel control as independent. Russia has long resisted Ukraine's move towards the European Union and the West's defensive military alliance, Nato. Announcing Russia's invasion, he accused Nato of threatening "our historic future as a nation". How far will Russia go? It is now clear that Russia is seeking to overthrow Ukraine's democratically elected government. Its aim is that Ukraine be freed from oppression and "cleansed of the Nazis". President Zelensky said he had been warned "the enemy has designated me as target number one; my family is target number two". This false narrative of a Ukraine seized by fascists in 2014 has been spun regularly on Kremlin-controlled TV. Mr Putin has spoken of bringing to court "those who committed numerous bloody crimes against civilians". What Russia's plans are for Ukraine are unknown, but it faces stiff resistance from a deeply hostile population. In January, the UK accused Moscow of plotting to install a pro-Moscow puppet to lead Ukraine's government - a claim rejected at the time by Russia as nonsense. One unconfirmed intelligence report suggested Russia aimed to split the country in two. In the days before the invasion, when up to 200,000 troops were near Ukraine's borders, Russia's public focus was purely on the eastern areas of Luhansk and Donetsk. By recognising the separatist areas controlled by Russian proxies as independent, Mr Putin was telling the world they were no longer part of Ukraine. Then he revealed that he supported their claims to far more Ukrainian territory. The self-styled people's republics cover little more than a third of the whole of Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions, but the rebels covet the rest, too. How dangerous is this invasion for Europe? These are terrifying times for the people of Ukraine and horrifying for the rest of the continent, witnessing a major power invading a European neighbour for the first time since World War Two. Hundreds have died already in what Germany has dubbed "Putin's war", both civilians and soldiers. And for Europe's leaders, this invasion has brought some of the darkest hours since the 1940s. France's Emmanuel Macron has spoken of a turning point in Europe's history while Germany's Olaf Scholz has warned that "Putin wants a Russian empire" - to take over Europe according to his world view. Recalling the Cold War days of the Soviet Union, Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of Ukraine's bid to avoid a new iron curtain closing Russia off from the civilised world. For the families of both armed forces, there will be anxious days ahead. Ukrainians have already suffered a gruelling eight-year war with Russian proxies. The military has called up all reservists aged 18 to 60 years old. Top US military official Mark Milley said the scale of Russian forces would mean a "horrific" scenario, with conflict in dense urban areas. This is not a war that Russia's population was prepared for, either, as the invasion was rubber-stamped by a largely unrepresentative upper house of parliament. The invasion has knock-on effects for many other countries bordering both Russia and Ukraine. Five countries are seeing a big influx of refugees, while the UN children's agency says its projected scenario is for up to five million refugees. Poland, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary are all braced for arrivals. What can the West do? Nato's defensive alliance has made clear there are no plans to send combat troops to Ukraine itself. Instead, they have offered advisers, weapons and field hospitals. However, it has deployed several thousand troops in the Baltic states and Poland and for the first time is activating part of its much larger rapid reaction force. Nato will not say where but some could go to Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia. At the same time, the West is targeting Russia's economy, financial institutions and individuals: The EU, US, UK, Japan and Canada are cutting off key Russian banks from the international Swift payment network, which allows the smooth and rapid transfer of money across borders Much of Europe has shut off its airspace to Russian airlines The US, EU and UK are imposing personal sanctions on President Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Germany has halted approval on Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, a major investment by both Russia and European companies The EU has already targeted 351 Russian MPs and aims to limit Russian access to finance, technology and defence The UK says all major Russian banks will have their assets frozen, with 100 individuals and entities targeted; Russia's national airline Aeroflot will also be banned from landing in the UK The US is targeting 10 of Russia's biggest financial institutions The Russian city of St Petersburg will no longer be able to host this year's Champions League final and the Russian Grand Prix will not take place in Sochi. What does Putin want? President Putin partly blamed his decision to attack on Nato's eastward expansion. He earlier complained Russia had "nowhere further to retreat to - do they think we'll just sit idly by?" Ukraine is seeking a clear timeline to join Nato and Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov explained: "For us it's absolutely mandatory to ensure Ukraine never, ever becomes a member of Nato." Last year, President Putin wrote a long piece describing Russians and Ukrainians as "one nation", and he has described the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1991 as the "disintegration of historical Russia". He has claimed modern Ukraine was entirely created by communist Russia and is now a puppet state, controlled by the West. President Putin has also argued that if Ukraine joined Nato, the alliance might try to recapture Crimea. But Russia is not just focused on Ukraine. It demands that Nato return to its pre-1997 borders. Mr Putin wants Nato to remove its forces and military infrastructure from member states that joined the alliance from 1997 and not to deploy "strike weapons near Russia's borders". That means Central Europe, Eastern Europe and the Baltics. In President Putin's eyes, the West promised back in 1990 that Nato would expand "not an inch to the east", but did so anyway. That was before the collapse of the Soviet Union, however, so the promise made to then Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev only referred to East Germany in the context of a reunified Germany. Mr Gorbachev said later "the topic of Nato expansion was never discussed" at the time. What has Nato said? Nato is a defensive alliance with an open-door policy to new members, and its 30 member states are adamant that will not change. There is no prospect of Ukraine joining for a long time, as Germany's chancellor has made clear. But the idea that any current Nato country would give up its membership is a non-starter. Is there a diplomatic way out? Not for now. Ukraine has called for talks, but Russia says they can only be held on condition that Kyiv agrees to surrender and demilitarise, and that will not happen. As well as the war, any eventual deal will need to cover the status of eastern Ukraine as wells as arms control with the West. The US had offered to start talks on limiting short- and medium-range missiles, as well as on a new treaty on intercontinental missiles. Russia wanted all US nuclear arms barred from beyond their national territories. Russia had been positive towards a proposed "transparency mechanism" of mutual checks on missile bases - two in Russia, and two in Romania and Poland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR6_D4sQAv0 By Paul Kirby BBC News

Imagine what could have happened if the Adebayor had pitched his international tent with Nigeria. The year is 2008, the month is January. Arsenal fans emit exasperated sighs as striker Emmanuel Adebayor departs London Colney for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, a potential six-week absence. It is a wrench to leave, but the hopes of Nigeria's Super Eagles rest on his shoulders. Wait, what? Don't get taken out of the story: this is a parallel universe; Nigeria, under the management of German Berti Vogts, have designs on a third Afcon title, and Adebayor's scoring boots will provide the ammo needed for this assault. Considering his Nigerian parentage, it has often been quite tempting to wonder what might have been had the Togo international, who turns 38 on Saturday, opted instead to turn out in green and white. At the peak of his powers, Adebayor was voted Africa's premier footballer, growing from the player former Togo coach Otto Pfister described as "not a natural goalscorer" to one of Europe's most devastating strikers. However, to indulge in this fantasy, it would be necessary to truncate another. Going back in time is, of course, a tricky business. While football remains a team effort, it is hard to see quite how the miracle of Togo's qualification for the 2006 World Cup would have happened without Adebayor. He would have, at the time, been preoccupied with a rather more run-of-the-mill task: helping Nigeria successfully navigate a qualifying group that featured the might of...Angola. Os Palancas Negras famously pipped the Super Eagles to the post on head-to-head, but it could have been so different: low-scoring draws away at Gabon and Rwanda underlined the struggles of the then two-time African champions in front of goal. Considering Adebayor was busy rattling off 10 goals for Togo in that series, he certainly would have chipped in. Could he have ensured Nigeria didn't miss out on the 2006 showpiece in Germany? Back to 2008 then, with Nigeria drawn against Ivory Coast, Mali and Benin in the Nations Cup. That tournament in Ghana still holds the record for the highest scoring Cup of Nations in history, and is widely regarded as the gold standard in terms of entertainment and colour. Yet, in the midst of that, the Super Eagles were dull as dishwater, scoring only thrice in four games, and were in fact reliant on the already qualified Ivorians running up the score against Mali in the fjnal group game to squeak through the Group Stage on goal difference. It puts into context quite how lean the mid to late noughties were in terms of goalscoring output, despite the fact that, at the time, Nigeria could call upon the likes of Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Obafemi Martins, both respected strikers in their own right. For all their ability and profile in Europe, both struggled for consistency in key moments with the national team. So often the man for the big occasion at Arsenal, Adebayor would have been the undisputed first choice upfront for Nigeria. While a partnership with Yakubu might have felt a little unnatural, he very likely would have hit it off rather well with Martins, a terrifying prospect given his stated preference for combining with a pacy partner. It also might have prevented one of the most painful moments of the Yak's career: the infamous miss in the 2010 World Cup against Korea. Misses such as those are not unheard of, and the manner in which it has been picked apart and harped upon does verge on cruel. However, Yakubu might be accused of taking the chance for granted somewhat, a charge that could never be leveled at Adebayor, for all his faults: the gusto with which he celebrated a tap-in at the end of a barnstorming Theo Walcott run which took in more than half the length of Anfield in 2008 attests to that. So sure, he would almost certainly have improved the Super Eagles' forward line, and provided Nigeria with its first African Footballer of the Year winner since his idol Kanu (that would have been yet another intriguing link-up: sorcerer meets apprentice). How much would it have mattered ultimately, and what would it have done for his overall legacy? All things considered, probably not a whole lot. In tangible terms, he might have made the difference in 2016 World Cup qualifying, seeing as the likes of Robert Akaruye and Ayo Makinwa featured in that series. However, amidst the general dysfunction administratively, allied to the coaching flux and the lack of a consistent creative player, the broader outcomes would likely have been the same. However, his legacy might have been impacted in one very obvious way: that six-week Afcon period in 2008 coincided with his hottest run of form for Arsenal that season. Missing that due to international commitments would have impacted his final goal output, and likely would have tipped the voting for the African Footballer of the Year award in favour of runner-up Mohamed Aboutrika. In an era that was arguably Africa's most prolific in terms of striking talent, that award cemented Adebayor as a part of the elite. To take that away, even in the service of fantasy booking, would be rather unfair. by Solace Chukwu
