Politics › N585m Scandal: Sack Betta Edu, Save Nigeria’s Democracy – Adeyanju To Tinubu by Bobloco(op): 7:19am On Jan 08, 2024 |
Deji Adeyanju, a renowned human rights activist, has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu if found guilty of financial misappropriation. In a statement he signed, Adeyanju said Tinubu should ensure a transparent and independent investigation into the scandal. Edu had come under heavy criticism after a memo surfaced where she directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585.2 million into a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget, who the Ministry claimed currently serves as the Project Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups. The minister said the payment followed due process, but the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein was of a contrary opinion. Reacting, Adeyanju, the convener of Concerned Nigerians, commended the Accountant-General of the Federation for her steadfastness in refusing to grant the request by Edu. He said: “This action by the Accountant-General is in line with Chapter Seven, Section 713 of Nigeria’s Financial Regulations 2009, which clearly states that personal money shall not be paid into a government bank account, nor should any public money be paid into a private account. “I applaud the Accountant-General for her unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of public finances. “Her refusal to comply with the improper and illegal request by the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs demonstrates her integrity and dedication to the rule of law. By adhering to the Financial Regulations, she has set a commendable example for other public officials to follow. “In light of these developments, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu. “The request made by the Minister to transfer such a substantial amount into an individual’s private account is a flagrant violation of Nigeria’s Financial Regulations. It raises serious concerns about the misuse of public funds and suggests a breach of trust by a high-ranking government official. “Adeyanju urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a transparent and independent investigation into the matter and, if found guilty, to suspend the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs pending further disciplinary actions saying the senseless looting perpetrated by Betta Edu reason military truncated severally democratic governments in the country. The president should sack her and preserve our democracy. “This step is crucial to maintaining public confidence in the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring the prudent management of public resources.” https://dailypost.ng/2024/01/08/n585m-scandal-sack-betta-edu-save-nigerias-democracy-adeyanju-to-tinubu/ |

Moreover we don't need a military rule in Nigeria. The worst of democracy is better than the best of military rule. In democracy, we at least have a little say. You people should stop being myopic. Peter Obi is the only better option than Tinubu. Tinubu has achieved more in 6 months than Buhari achieved in 8 years. Can you point to one area that Tinubu is better than Buhari Just one |
Politics › Re: Obi’s Kinsmen Protest Over His Failed Promises To Community In Anambra. by Bobloco: 6:41pm On Jan 07, 2024 |
lexylaw40kuti: newmail-ng.comJan 7, 2024 4:13 PM Peter-Obi
The youths of Agulu, Peter Obi‘s kinsmen, in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state, staged a protest against the Labour Party presidential candidate during the last presidential election, accusing him of abandoning his community with many failed promises.
The over 2000 protesters marched through the community with placards with various inscriptions, listing some of the projects he promised his people without accomplishing any during his time as governor of Anambra State.
Those projects, according to them, included Obeagu water scheme, judge’s quarters, Fire Service center, and a police station, among others, adding that “charity begins at home.”
They also accused him of negligence and abandonment of Agulu General Hospital while he traveled all over Nigeria and Africa, donating huge sums of money.
The protesters accused their brother of donating 20 million naira to a general hospital at Nsukka, while the one in his community had been overgrown with weeds with all manner of dangerous reptiles and insects playing ‘samba’ game there.
Again, they were not happy with the alleged embezzlement of 40 million naira show your community projects, released by former Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano to the community
They did not accuse Obi of being responsible for it, but they were angry at the contractor for taking the community for a ride.
According to one of the protesters, who spoke with our correspondent and simply gave his name as Ugochukwu, the contract for the building of the General Hospital Agulu was awarded by Peter Obi.
The source said Obi claimed to have paid over 200 million naira to the contractor (names withheld) for the rehabilitation of the hospital, adding that the contractor had repeatedly denied collecting that amount of money from Peter Obi.
However, the angry youths had called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to wade into the matter as the community had no functional hospital.
Another of the protesters, who told The Nation he belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, said Obi had shown wickedness to his people after the way they rallied behind him during all his elections in the area.
He said, “We supported him when he brought out Mr Obaze for governorship contest; we also supported him when he presented Mr Ozigbo for another governorship contest; and we also supported his presidential pursuit, yet he treats his people as nothing. It’s not good
“We read in the newspapers and social media about the amount of money he distributes both in Nigeria and other African countries when his people at home are suffering and languishing in abject poverty, who does that? And there are no pictures and videos of the staged protests |

Upon serving my ban, I deliberately refused to log back into the forum, given you and your moderators appear to have totally lost control of your creation. Today, I wanted to deactivate my handle and noticed that isn't possible.
Nairaland isn't what it used to be and may never be, because you've chosen to be such a coward in wheilding the big stick against those who violate the same rules you set for the forum. CoronaVirusPro: 8 reasons why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should consider a 3rd term in office
1. Continuity of Development Initiatives: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated successful developmental projects and policies during his previous terms, and its mandatory that a third term would allow for the continuity and completion of these initiatives.
2. Stability and Experience: Advocates for a third term might emphasize the stability and experience that President Tinubu brings to the table. Familiarity with the political landscape could be seen as an asset in navigating complex challenges.
3. Economic Growth and Job Creation: President Tinubu's leadership has contributed to economic growth and job creation, and a third term would provide the opportunity to solidify and expand on these achievements.

Politics › ‘our Gov Locked In Prayer While His Candidate Lost Primaries – Achado Mocks Alia by Bobloco(op): 10:35am On Jan 07, 2024 |
The member representing Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency of Benue State, Arch. Asema Achado has said Governor Hyacinth Alia “was busy in closed-door prayers” with his officials, while his preferred candidate for the Guma 1 State Constituency primary election was acutely defeated. Arch. Achado, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had in November 2023, via an open letter to Alia, advised the Governor to dedicate time to attending to official matters and government activities, rather than using office hours meant for business of governance for prayers. Also in December, while the Benue APC National Assembly Caucus was briefing the press in Abuja on how Fr. Alia was running the affairs of the state like a parish, Arch. Achado reiterated his comment on how top government functionaries, critical stakeholders and leaders of the party would drive to Government House, Makurdi, to discuss issues of state importance with Alia, only to be told that the Governor would not be available for such meeting as he would be engaged in marathon prayers for over four hours. Taking to his personal Facebook page Saturday evening, Hon. Achado mocked Governor Alia for failing to produce the Guma 1 State Assembly candidate of the party and attempting to cancel the process after it was long done and the Electoral Committee had long arrived Abuja with the result. “I love my Governor, hence my advice to him two months ago, to sleep/pray in the night and work in the day”, Achado posted on Facebook. He added, “the nationwide House of Assembly primary election was scheduled to hold today by 8 am. In Benue State, it started about 9 am and ended about 10 am. “Our prayerful Governor was locked up in prayers with his officials till noon. The APC electoral officials conducted the primary election and left, while our prayerful Governor was praying or sleeping. “How do you suspend a process which has been concluded? A process you have no control over. Haba”. It would be recalled that the Guma 1 State Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly was declared vacant following the resignation of Dr. Yamar Ortese who was appointed a commissioner. An election to fill the vacant position is expected to be conducted next month, hence, the primary election to pick the party’s candidate. In the election conducted under heavy security on Saturday by the Prof. Kabiru Ibrahim-led 2024 APC Bye-election primaries committee, Hon. Uche Peter Terwase defeated his only rival, Hon. Maurice Orwough. Uche, who is said to have the backing of Hon. Dickson Tarkighir of Guma/Makurdi Federal Constituency, polled a total number of 25 votes to defeat Governor Alia’s annointed candidate, Hon. Orwough who polled only three votes. Announcing the result at the Avine Agbum Hotel in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area, which also served as the collation Centre for the primary election, Prof. Kabiru, Chairman of Primary Election Committee stated that “the election was not only free, fair and credible but represented the wishes of APC members in Guma 1 State Constituency”. But in a twist of event, Governor Alia declared that he was cancelling the election. He said the election was marred by security breaches and irregularities. Meanwhile, the state working Committee of the APC has congratulated Hon. Terwase on his “well deserved victory” at the polls. A statement signed by Daniel Ihomun, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, quoted the State Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada, as “commending APC members in Guma for a peaceful primary election,” while thanking “them for their show of maturity during the primary election”. https://dailypost.ng/2024/01/07/our-gov-locked-in-prayer-while-his-candidate-lost-primaries-achado-mocks-alia/ |

[quote author= post=127808759]Let us make this clear to Nairalanders that do not understand what exactly is going on, Here you have it....
This document we are talking about showed that the payment of the N585.198 million grant, meant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun and Lagos states, was made into one Bridget Oniyelu’s account. However, reacting to this the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister, Rasheed Zubair said N585.198 million payment for the vulnerable group followed due process.
From all of us at MANNA, this is our take on this issue, Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private bank account. An officer who pays public money into a private account is deemed to have done so with fraudulent intention. This is what Obi Pandora did in Anambra State that we are against. Stealing the state money and transferring it to his family account. He frittered away their state treasury to fund his family business as revealed in Pandora papers. Being caught with 250 million in cash! We say no to FRAUD in all ramifications.
