He doesn't seem like a good guy. He is even banned in his own country of birth.

BTW, "communal" is the Indian version of "tribal".

Government puts 24 foreign 'hate channels' on notice for showing anti-India TV shows after intelligence alert

By Pratul Sharma

Hate channels which are illegally down-linked and freely available to viewers near the India-Pakistan and north-eastern borders have become important weapons in the psychological war against India.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has red-flagged 24 "illegal" foreign channels for beaming anti-India programmes.

The potential for mischief by these channels was serious enough for the government to concede in Parliament: "The content of some of these channels is not conducive to the security environment in the country and poses a potential security hazard."

The government has red-flagged 'Peace TV', which is illegally aired in India and run by preacher Zakir Naik

The government has initiated steps to enhance the penal provisions for beaming such channels.

Amendments to the Cable TV Act, which will include higher fines apart from the existing jail provisions, are ready to be introduced in Parliament.

The government's move to block the channels follows a spate of communal incidents in Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Assam, Srinagar, Mumbai and other parts of India in recent months following motivated reports.

However, the authorities find it difficult to jam all channels. Encouraged by this lack of control and easily available in the border areas and even elsewhere, these channels are brought into homes via cable TV.

Ajit Doval, former director of the Intelligence Bureau, said, "If these channels are indulging in anti-national and seditious activities which are detrimental to the security of the country, then the government should take suitable legal action and a technological response to counter them."

Most hate channels focus on news or religious affairs. Pakistani TV channels identified as being stridently anti-India include QTV, Madani TV, ARY TV, the official broadcaster PTV, PTV Home, PTV World, Geo TV, Dawn, Express, Waqat, Noor TV, Hadi TV, Aaj, Filmax and STV.

They are available in Jammu Kashmir and Punjab. Other TV channels that are illegally down-linked into India and are known to spew malicious content include Peace TV (Dubai), Saudi TV, TV Maldives, NTV (Bangladesh), XYZ TV, Nepal TV, Kantipur (Nepal), Ahmedia Channel (UK-based) and Bhutan Broadcasting Service.

These channels are watched in the north-eastern states and in areas bordering Nepal.

Sources said channels like QTV and Indian preacher Zakir Naik-run Peace TV are also available through cable TV operators in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Many cable operators are unaware that it is illegal to air these channels.

Indian viewers are drawn to the illegally shown TV channels because of the entertainment programmes they show.

For instance, Pakistan's official broadcaster PTV has a dedicated following for its highly popular drama and comedy shows.

But, it is illegal in India. The channel was banned following the Kargil conflict and increased terrorist activities in India a decade ago.

It is the dangerous content that the Intelligence Bureau has opposed. Unverified reports on the desecration of the holy Quran telecast on Iran TV, an illegally downloaded channel, had sparked violent protests in Jammu and Kashmir. The channel is banned in the Valley.

The anti Islam film, 'Innocence of Muslims', triggered riots and protests in Mumbai and other parts of the country.

The government is wary that incendiary films or visuals can disturb the peace.

Sources said the anti-India propaganda to misguide viewers in India is very carefully managed. Foreign channels provide free space for people who are wellknown India baiters.

Even the news telecast is sometimes loaded against India and aimed at whipping up communal passions.

The Indian security agencies and the army are shown in poor light and blamed for human rights abuses. In the border areas, despite the access to Indian channels, there is a demand for TV programmes from across the border.

This makes it easier to slip in content that is "coloured" and likely to stir up passions.

Officials said the problem of anti-India channels pertains mainly to cable operators and not other platforms like DTH.

There are over 60,000 registered cable operators in the country and it is not easy to monitor them, said officials.

Digitisation could be a solution as it will be easy to track what is being shown by a cable operator.

But this will take some time. Officials said digitisation will not be completed before 2014.

In other words people in the border areas, where the problem of illegal channels is acute, could continue to watch these channels for at least two years even though the digitisation rollout goes according to present plans.

The issue of illegal channels has been plaguing the government for long but it has not been able to find an effective answer to deal with the issue.

Sources said on the intervention of the Prime Minister's Office, a committee of secretaries analysed the issue in 2010.

A technical group comprising National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), CERT-in and the Intelligence Bureau had explored various technical options to address the issue of showing illegal contents by the cable networks.

They were of the view that localised blocking of a specified TV channel using a terrestrial transmitter is neither feasible nor a financially viable option.

Secondly, although it is technically possible to block a particular channel on a pan India basis by disturbing, or jamming the downlink frequency of a particular TV channel, "such actions are not internationally acceptable," sources said.

maclatunji: He is a lecturer. His lectures that I have watched make sense. Sorry, can't watch your video at the moment.

Look at it this way, why has the Indian government not acted against this 'terrorist' you are trying to nail?
You misunderstood. I don't think that he himself is a terrorist.

It is worrying that he preaches that terrorism is ok. I am concerned that people will listen to him and walk away thinking that cowardly acts of violence are justified.

udatso: You are very funny....now is the time we need peopple like him. Some of us believe that even though boko haram claim to be muslims, they do not follow the teachings of islam and at such we don't consider them true muslims. He is a popularly known scholar who can answer all your questions about islam and all you have been made to believe wrongly by the media or other sources. UK banned him but this is nigeria....uk is ok with gay marriage but we are not...so many things UK do that we don't or things they don't permit but we permit...brother, if I were you, I would make sure I attend and attack him with questions....if islam is a false religion, here is your opportunity to find out. If only christians can organise events like this where people of different faith can come in, I would be so glad cos I av lots of questions about christianity that I am yet to find good answers for...peace
That is exactly what worries me. According to him, terrorism is halal if you are fighting Islam's enemies (apparently that includes the United States). If this man preaches something similar in Nigeria, we are going to have a problem on our hands. People will leave feeling that Boko Haram are Muslims again, and we will be right back at the beginning where Nigerian Muslims support and defend them.

Zakir has said repeatedly that he doesn't think that other religious buildings should be built in Islamic countries. What kind of message is that to send in a 50/50 Christian and Muslim nation like ours? What kind of message is that to send to the North where Churches are being destroyed?

I am very concerned.
IslamRe: Zakir Naik Live In Abuja by bobthebuilder99(m): 4:29pm On Jun 08, 2013
Can one of his supporters explain why he was allowed into Nigeria while we are battling Boko Haram? Especially considering, that the UK has banned him from the country for quote "glorifying terrorism and inciting hatred and violence".

This makes me nervous. undecided

vedaxcool: It is being dishonest to claim a report that says

Only in Nigeria do Muslims offer views that are, on balance, positive toward al Qaeda and bin Laden with roughly half (49%) expressing a favourable view of al Qaeda

So the thread should be named 49% of Nigerian have favourably view towards al qaeda,

Please Moderators take note, as the thread name is devious and deceitful!

Now op did you download the entire report and read the contradiction to the end claim?
in page 29, the question was asked
Q31 How concerned, if at all, are you about the rise of Islamic extremism
around the WORLD these days? Are you very concerned, somewhat
concerned, not too concerned or not at all concerned?

guess what,

73% of Nigerians say they are concerned about the rise of islamic extremism.

literal showing a contradiction between the entire report, if Nigerians in your words support al qaeda an extremist organisation, then we ask, how is it at the same time, they fear the rise of Islamic organisation? Go and think and come up with an answer.

Q34e For each, tell me how much confidence you have in each leader to do
the right thing regarding world affairs – a lot of confidence, some
confidence, not too much confidence, or no confidence at all: e. Osama bin
Laden

Spring, 2010 43 No confidence at all
"Extremism" is a relative term.

I wonder what is "extreme" to people who think that cutting off hands is normal. I hope we never have to find out.

justwise: I really can not help but wonder if you really read through posts before letting yourself down. How will putting up delete button help nairaland grow and pleases members? Which members? Those that deleted their account and left?

Reading through your rant and few others like you its clear that you people just like ranting for the sake of it, you said facebook has delete button and it share has gone down, so you want Seun to implement delete button so that members will leave and companies will stop placing Ads here?
Placing a delete account button makes users happy. Happy users become evangelists for your company. Or at least prevents them from bad mouthing it.

For example, I found out about this website from a friend. He used this site, liked it, and recommended that I join. If you make people mad and develop a bad reputation, then...as they say, "bad news travels fast". People will not think well of your site, and it will affect the amount of new users. The worse case scenario is that a competitor will pop up and suck up ALL your users, even the happy ones.

A delete account button is not really asking for much. That's all I am saying. And every website has a delete account button. It is highly irregular for a website NOT to provide that option.

justwise: Its a non-issue and this your post proves it, nobody stops you from deleting your post or comment, nobody stops you from removing any personal info in any of your post, its even more ridiculous for anybody to put their personal info in a public forum like this.

Its your responsibility to edit your post using Modify button and after that you stop posting and log-off if you are tired of Nairaland.

The person who started this thread ( skyone) on Jul 18, 2012 crying about his privacy and all that, he was still posting here till 3:19pm On Apr 10, 2013, this is almost a year since he started moaning about his privacy and how nairaland chained him to his keyboard.

fyneboi79 used nairaland to advertise his property business here https://www.nairaland.com/1289803/4-un#15939278 free of charger and the last time i checked he is still here posting. Why not log-out quietly and leave the way you came? Why crying about leaving and refuses to leave?

The owner of the site is not ready to implement certain function at the moment and if you not happy with that then remove your personal info and say goodbye to nairaland.
Modifying a post and deleting it are two very different things. It is impossible, by the way, to delete something that someone has quoted. Once they quote it, Nairaland keeps it FOREVER.

Clearly, Seun is scared of users leaving Nairaland in droves and this policy is a form of 419 by making his advertisers believe that he has more users than he really does. This is Nigeria, I get it. We are an unethical bunch of internet scammers. That still does not make this normal.

I am going to assume that you are free of mental disabilities, so it should be easy for you to understand that PERSONAL info is PERSONAL and that in many countries (like the USA) your ownership of your personal info is enshrined in law. Look at the uproar because the Government even dared to look at call information in the States.

Go to Google, and type in "fired because of social media" and you will find plenty of examples that demonstrate why people NEED the ability to control their online profiles. By the way, ZERO people have ANY IDEA that they are unable to delete what they post on this website until they try to do so. There are ZERO notifications that what is posted here will last forever. Lets also keep in mind that EVERY other website on the planet allows you to delete your profile and leave.

Nairaland would be better served if the moderators weren't allowed to speak, because every time you do, you make this website seem amateur. Just keep quiet!

jerseyboy: Nigerian is FINISHED. These governing elites criminally neglect the roads to death traps and then waste the people’s money on private jets and choppers. Of what benefit is the funeral of Ben Obi's mother to the people of Edo State? Nigerians are in acceptance of this and more numerous abuse of public trust and come here to argue about fees or no fees.

That Adams Oshiomole cannot drive a distance of 81 miles without putting the people's commonwealth to waste should be the outrage of all right thinking Nigerians.
1. Oshimole is a performer, he builds lots of roads.
2. Chartering a helicopter (in theory anyway) allows him to save time so he can work harder, instead of wasting hours in traffic.
3. Our politicians actually get allowances for these types of things. So as long as he paid with his allowance money, it is completely legal.

On the other hand, he absolutely should be building MORE ROADS. Unfortunately, that truth has nothing to do with the story.
