Frank-C:
While i agree with some of the points raised here, i think election results show how truly the masses think. If you follow fox news on the run up to 2012 US general elections, you will see how Romney won the elections, just like Buhari. To my mind, there is no clear difference in the thinking of both Romney and APC supporters:

Both believe that what a particular section that they consider minority think does not matter.

Both are very noisy in the media. You remember Trump 'revelation'?

Both believe that all they need to win an election is the support of the 'majority blocks', a block that they failed to realise how erroded they have become.

Both also wanted power for the sake of power, no clear alternative solution to existing problems. Romney was even better here because he proposed a tax regime, however faulted, but ACN leader promised us the BH will disappear 3 months into APC government. To strategy was proposed.

Both had the attention of impressionable section of the society.

My point is that real Nigerians don't think GEJ is persecuting Amaechi, they actually think that Amaechi is being used by the 'born to rule people with the collaboration of ACN to distract GEJ'. They like GEJ for his smiles, he calm attitude, his unassuming personality and his story that is similar to theirs. They like him for some things they can relate with and for rail and roads that they observe difference in, something the NL APC folks call 'mediocrity'. Some of them receive 5000NGN for using the FG ante-natal program, something that does not make sense to NL APC commentators. And with the media attack from left, right and center, they think that it is unfair to treat him this way. They actually consider him a victim. And mark my words, before 2015, this feeling will spread. Look at the response to attack by Tinubu's ACN to SOE. Also look at Dino's home page today. Check El-Rufai's facebook page too.
APC has done a TERRIBLE job of responding to the State of Emergency. I agree with that 100%.

I disagree with the part in bold. I don't think people from the North think of themselves as "born to rule people". If anything, that is a Southern perspective.

I'm sure the North has real concerns with the way GEJ has handled Boko Haram and I'm sure there is a lot of anger there about the lack of development. However, I don't live in the North, so I won't guess how they feel.

Interesting thing about CPC is that they received 30% of the vote with virtually no political structure. Half the North was still allied to PDP in 2011, but Buhari still won a lot of votes. If the Northerners from the PDP defect to APC, it won't be an easy race. Also have to take into account that the various opposition parties will all be throwing their weight behind the same candidates.

Personally, the only thing I want is economic development. Fashola seems like the best politician for delivering that. Whatever party he runs on, he will have my support.
PoliticsRe: Fashola: The Rise Of A Troubleshooter by bobthebuilder99(m):
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Last time I checked there were 3 million people in Akwa Ibom and 20 million in Lagos.

For tribal reasons, Akwa Ibom has the highest Federal Allocation in the country. Yes, Akwa Ibom gets more money from the FG than Lagos even though Lagos has about 7x the amount of people in it. The little bit you do with all that "cake" is nothing to be proud of.

Lagos is in a completely different league than Akwa Ibom. While that state relies on the FG and SS oil to survive, Lagos derives 70% of its revenue from internal sources like taxes and tolls. It is the commercial capital of Nigeria and West Africa. Everybody must go to Lagos to chop.

You are comparing a small backwards village with a state that has the same GDP and population as Ghana. Don't make me laugh.

There are probably more Igbos living in Lagos than are living in Akwa Ibom.

^^^^^

You are forgetting that PDP was the only major party until about 3 months ago. It includes EVERYONE and has no ideology.

Nigeria doesn't have two major political parties yet. So any statements you make about makes up the opposition (all of them must be Yorubas, Muslims, or in the diaspora!) are premature.

We will have to wait for the PDP and APC to truly separate from one another (in ideology and in demographics) before we can see who is really on what side.

And like I said, you are fooling yourself if you think the rich (which is 90% of the people on this site) represent the desires of the poor and middle class. There is no country in the world where that is the truth.
PoliticsRe: APC Supported Amaechi To Disgrace Jonathan by bobthebuilder99(m):
APC really needs to work on its communications department.

ACN was on point, they always seemed like they were opposing the government on behalf of the people.
APC often sounds like it just wants power.

If you are going to release a statement about this Ameachi thing, MAKE THE STATEMENT SOUND LIKE YOU DID IT ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE!
"We did it just be a**holes and to bother the President", sounds childish.
PoliticsRe: Are Nairalanders Representative Of Nigerians? by bobthebuilder99(m): 7:01am On Jun 02, 2013
^^^^^^^

This has nothing to do with what the poster was asking, which is "Are Nairalanders representative of the Nigerian public?"

PDP wins elections because it is able to get the average Nigerian (an illiterate, poorly educated, hungry person) to the polls by using ethnic, religious, and other means.

Most people that voted for PDP AND CPC had no idea who the candidates were, or what the candidates really believed. Most were just blindly following their religious leaders, their village chiefs, and other "ogas" that had been bought off by the warring political parties.

Don't confuse votes, with what Nigerians actually think. The PDP supporters on this site are not representative of the people. The ACN supporters on this site are not representative of the people. The CPC supporters on this site are not representative of the people. Etc.

This is the truth.

When will he build the second Niger Bridge?
When will Igbos build the Second Niger Bridge??

What does the Second Niger bridge have to do with Lagos, the SW, or the Yorubas anyway?

Back on topic - I wonder what Fashola is planning to do in 2015? He can't be Governor anymore, and if Tinubu can't get him to be the APC candidate for Presido what is going to happen to this talented man?

Anyone have any idea?
PoliticsRe: Are Nairalanders Representative Of Nigerians? by bobthebuilder99(m): 6:40am On Jun 02, 2013
I thought you had a point, until you suggested that most Nigerians are MORE educated than Nairalanders.

It is the opposite. The Nigerians with access to the internet, and the Nigerians that are educated enough to understand politics are the at the very top of Nigerian society. Most people here are NOT representative of the Nigerian public.

When Reuben Abati writes a response to APC using all manner of big words, do you think most Nigerians understand? NO!

Many Nigerians don't even fully speak English. Many in the North only speak Hausa. Nairalanders might joke about witches and wizards, but many Nigerians actually believe in them. Many Nigerians do not even know who their politicians are. According to the government, over 60% of Nigerians are illiterate and 80% live in less than N160 a day. At the same time most NL'ers think the poverty in Naija is a lie, because most live so far away from it.

Nairaland does not represent the majority of Nigerians, but not for the reasons you mentioned.

What does god have to do with jailing someone for 14 years?

The Quran says that infidels (non-Muslims) should be killed. So I take it you are ok with Muslims killing you because their religion says infidels are going to hell?

My bible says "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." If we are going to start jailing people for violating the rules in the bible, every Nigerian would be in jail.

PS - Muslims should not take offense to this post, because obviously it is only extremists who follow that part of the Quran.

We have our culture, we don't take such nonsense. Period!

Wether you oppose or support their views is immaterial cuz they hv d constitutional power to leg. on marriage n other laws for d preservation of pub morality n good of Nigerians.
The public morality of Nigerians? LWKMD!

Are you saying that the majority of Nigerians are moral and good? Abeg, put down the hemp.

Are you saying that you will be negatively affected if a woman sleeps with another woman? If you tell me that it will, then you must be gay.
Tell me how what someone does in their own bedroom is going to effect you?

I like the American phrase "If you don't like gay marriage, DON'T GET GAY MARRIED!" Simple. grin
Unless you plan on getting married to another woman, or you think your husband is going to run off and leave you for a man, then you shouldn't be worried about it.

X-factoria:
Bullshit!

Since he is beginning to sound like a saint, the investigation should start from when he was Chief of Staff to Tinubu (2003 - 2007) in which period, his law firm fraudulently connived with Tinubu to perfect titles and convert large expanse of Lagos state government land in Lekki in the names of persons and organizations with whom/in which Tinubu has interest (including Justice Ayo Salami). It should also cover how his campaign was funded in 2007 and 2011 and all the contracts he awarded to his friends fronting for him.

I know people will jump out to say he is a performer but this guy should not play on our intelligence!
Do you have any proof of this, or do you just enjoy running your mouth?

For all the people calling Tinubu "Tinubu" I haven't seen anyone put forward any PROOF of him stealing anything.
Tinubu singlehandedly created the strongest opposition party in Nigeria, and he did it while transforming the SW Zone. This "Tinubu" thing probably started because PDP was scared of him. LOL, PDP is STILL scared of him.

Stop hating.

matrixme: This country just sinks into depths of mediocrity daily. The headlines one day would read "I have done well, says Jonathan", the next day, the Senate would approve anti-gay laws. Yet, a lot of people feeling good about these news are unemployed and probably not well fed. This is a country whereby popular baby factories have been recently uncovered whereby young girls would actually sell their babies for money, yet we think we are more morally upright than some 'western' countries whose citizens would not even dare a thing like that. Even the religious bodies that acts as advocates for the marriage institution has a social justice system that is perverted. We either kill innocent people or live extravagantly and insensitive about the plight of the poor all in the name of God. Our country is deeply entrenched in corruption, insecurity, poverty, educational deprivation, lack of infrastructures and quality health services, yet we are silent on any of these pressing issues. We just like ostriches burying our heads in the sand, denying the reality in our lives by appearing morally relevant, yet, our butt is glaring to all. We will see how far this gets us!
Exactly. If you are going to look down on someone, at least have a reason to believe that you are better than them. Most of these people are busy looking down on gays while screaming about South Africans discriminating against them.
