Macgabe:Since you're full of 'sanity' and 'knowledge' could you please enlighten us on the aggregate demand for tomato paste in Nigeria and the capacity of each of Dangote, Sonia and Erisco tomato paste factories. Can these factories and others like them in Nigeria meet the demands or not? |
Ntipia:Two quotes for you: 1. To be ignorant of one's own ignorance is to be in an unprogressive, uninspired state of existence. ~ David O. McKay 2. Ignorance is the most serious disease of mankind and is the cause of all its ills. Healing is achieved through knowledge. ~ Buddha |
Pidgin2:I'm tempted to believe you only saw Jonathan's name in the article and reacted. So, why don't you take enough time to read and understand the article. You can try and read it twice more before you post comments. |
Childishness! |
Mumu Governor. Trying so hard to remain relevant. |
Infinitikoncept:That 50,000 jobs created likely includes jobs created along the fertilizer value chain not just at the blending plants. It is called Multiplier Effect. |
vcente:Phosphate importation NOT fertilizer importation. Big difference. |
PapaBrowne:It was a dumb move to critic what you know little about. Ever heard of multiplier effects of economic policies? Think about the fertilizer value chain. Or just read more. And where did the NNPC GMD mentioned that the 50,000 jobs where created at the blending plants alone? Learn to read with open mind so you won't expose your ignorance and bigotry. Meanwhile, Morocco is supplying Phosphate NOT fertilizers. In case you don't know Phosphate is one of numerous ingredients blended to get fertilizers. Yes, Nigeria have huge deposits of Phosphate but we don't mine it yet. And before you talk about why we don't mine instead of importing from Morocco, think about the investment requirements and the benefits of short term solution of cheap fertilizers for farmers. |
"We have just enough religions to make us hate, but not enough to make us love another" ~ Jonathan Swift If you're a Christian, you're probably one because you were born in a Christian family or perhaps raised by Christian guardians. Same thing applies if you're a Muslim. Or Hindu. Or Buddhist. Therefore, it is safe to say that our faith and religious ideals were imposed at birth. We basically had no choice in chosing our religion, but to adhere to the beliefs of our parents or guardians since such religion has become a family tradition. There's also the case of 'geographical accident of the locality' of our birth place. If you were born in Saudi Arabia or UAE or Pakistan, it's reasonable to believe you will be a Muslim. Likewise, if I was born in India I will most likely be Hindu or Sikh or Jainist. Same if you and I were born in either Italy or Peru, we will probably be Catholics. So, why do we think or believe that the religion chosen for us by our parents, or by chance of our birth place, is the one and true religion? If our fate had been reversed, would we still see the other religion as we see them now? For example, if you're now a Muslim, but assuming you were born NOT into a Muslim home but a Christian home, would you still see Islam as the true religion as a Christian? Same if you're now a Christian, but assuming you were instead raised in a Hindu home with Hindu parents, would you still see Christianity as the true religion as a Hindu? Honesty may be difficult to achieve here. If your excuse is: 'given what you know now about your birth religion, you will probably have converted and still see that as the true religion of God. My question then is: what TRUE knowledge do you have about the other religions and how it has enriched the lives of their faithfuls? Knowledge, after all, engender understanding, and with understanding you develop the tolerance of people with a different viewpoints. This is basically liberalism. I consider myself a liberal and I've made deliberate efforts to have working knowledge of the world major religions enough to be tolerant of each of their beliefs, ideals and the idiosyncrasies of their faithfuls. I have grown to admire the simplicity of the monotheism of Judaism and Islam. I have admiration for the peace of monogamy in Christianity. I always admire meditation and the concept of enlightenment from knowledge and understanding in Buddhism. I'm always fascinated by the concept of reincarnation and Karma in Hinduism. And I love the idea of having my own favourite God, like Hinduism, in the corner of my room where I can have personal dialogue with Him, compared to talking to an empty space and assuming the so-called omnipresent God is listening to you as He's listening to the other 7 billion humans in the world. So, how do we judge the true religion from others? Do we judge by their origins? Or the substance of their messages? Or the socioeconomic status of their faithfuls? ORIGIN Majority, if not all of the world major religions originated from the East (Middle East and Asia). Islam, Judaism and Christianity all derived their roots in the Middle East. Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism roots can be traced to Asia. The geographical similarities among some of these religions explains why they are reciprocally connected. Moses (Musa), Jesus (Isa) are Jews. Muhammad is Arab. But they all have Ibrahim (Abraham) as their progenitor through his two sons. Siddhārtha Guatama (Buddhism), Vardhamāna Mahāvīra (Jainism) and Guru Nānak (Sikhism) are all Indians and have roots in Hinduism. The Jewish book is called Torah. The Torah is the Old Testament in the Christian Bible. The Christian book is called the Holy Bible and it has two books: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Muslim book is called the Holy Qur'an and the Muslims believe their book is the compilation and confirmation of previous books: Zabur (Psalms of David), Tawrat (5 books of Moses or Torah or Pentateuch), Injeel (New Testament or Gospel of Jesus). Can you see the parallel connectivities? MESSAGES All the world major religions have peace, non-violence, self-sacrifice, selflessness, love, kindness, tolerance, modesty and brotherhood as their central tenets. From the benignity of ahimsa, the discipline actions of Karma Yoga and the ascetic lifestyle of monks in Hinduism; to the powerful messages of Ikhlâs, Taqwâ and Birr and observation and holding to sanctity the divine beauty of Allah's creations in Islam; to the Four Noble Truths, sublimity of meditation, the Eightfold Paths and enlightenment to gain entry to Nirvana in Buddhism; to the prohibition of ungodly works of the flesh, the teachings of unselfish love, turning the other cheek, self-control, ultimate sacrifice and kindness in Christianity. Their messages are all the same: peace, piousness, compassion, morality and submission to a supreme being. SOCIOECONOMICS In the ranking of The World Richest Countries, 5 Muslim-majority countries are in the Top 10 (Qatar, Kuwait, Brunei Darussalam, UAE, Saudi Arabia). China is the 2nd Largest Economy in the world. The major religions in China are Taoism and Confucianism. In fact there are more Atheists in China than there are Christians and Muslims. Yet, China is producing more Millionaires every year faster than any country in the world. United State, officially a secular state though with Christian majority, is the largest economy in the world. The US with its liberalism, something some people consider ungodly, has the highest number of Millionaires in the world. India is ranked 7th in the World Wealthiest Countries with a total individual wealth of $5.6 trillion. Hinduism and Sikhism are the major religions. India is also the 7th largest economy in the world. Apparently, religion has nothing to do with how rich you become or how poor you are. God is obviously liberal with sharing of wealth. There are riches and wealth in Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist and Shintoist countries, as well as there are poverty. CONCLUSION The knowledge of God and His ways are way too deep and vast for any single group of people or religion to claim dominion over. God operates in a liberal and mysterious ways nobody can fully fathom. Therefore, make conscious attempt to learn about other religions. Learning is NOT converting. Embrace them, learn about them and see how your tolerance level grows. How can you even judge other religions when you have little, which is mostly biased, or no knowledge about them? The multitude of religions in the world is for a purpose - to spice up the world. Having same race, same language, same culture and same religion would be so boring. The diversity of the multiple religions of the world is a thing of beauty. Ever pay rapt attention to the melodious sound of the voices of the muezzins (Islam) calling faithfuls to prayers, the aerobic nature of the Salāt and the equality of mankind the process of the Salāt preaches? Ever watched the beauty of Diwali (Hinduism) with the colour powders, sweets, bonfires, the beautiful candles, clay lamps (deepas) and the fireworks? Ever experienced the solemnity and pomp of Hanukkah (Judaism), the kindling of Menorahs, the singing of Ma'oz Tzur and recitation of Hallel to remember the rededication of the Holy Temple in 165 BC? Ever experienced the reverence of The Sacrifice of the Mass (Christianity) when the powerful words of Jesus Christ are recited and his presence as the Principal Priest is felt, the beautiful vestments of the priests, the golden chalice, the gilded paten, the beeswax candles, the crucifix on the altar and the atmosphere heightened by the heavenly rendition of the hymns by the laity? “To study different religions need not imply infidelity to one’s own faith, but rather it may be enlarged by seeing how other people have sought for reality and have been enriched by their search” ~ Geoffrey Parrinder. Disclosure: 'Mankind Search For God', a book by Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania is an influence on this article. |
soath:Donald Trump was known to be in favour Democrat before he switched to Republican. He said it himself in 2004. |
Vacuous statement from a man of no consequence! |
Tuface is certainly on a rollercoaster downhill. It won't happen overnight but surely he's about to bite more than he can chew. He who comes into equity must come with clean hands. Once he was rollicking and frolicking with the corrupt clans of PDP. The sponsorship of his wedding by a State Governor, the political gifts he got etc. If he's interested in playing the game of politics, he's free to get involve I'm sure PDP has openings for him. But hiding behind a so-called social responsibility initiative that's fronting for the corrupt cabal, who are getting caned by PMB anti-corruption fight, will only destroy the little credibility the guy has. |
The White House said on Monday that President Trump would leave in place a 2014 Obama administration order that created new workplace protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. In a statement issued in response to growing questions about whether Mr. Trump would reverse the Obama order, the White House said the president was proud to embrace gay rights. “President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of L.G.B.T.Q. rights, just as he was throughout the election,” the statement said. “The president is proud to have been the first ever G.O.P. nominee to mention the L.G.B.T.Q. community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression.” The decision to keep the order, the statement added, was Mr. Trump’s. It uses stronger language than any Republican president has before in favor of equal legal protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, though that is not likely to quiet Mr. Trump’s critics on the left. The move could also anger conservatives who had hoped a Republican president would end some socially liberal policies. While Mr. Trump remains opposed to the right of same-sex couples to marry, he has been more open to it than many in his party. But there could be another political cost to his decision: On the eve of the announcement of his pick to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court, it could reopen the divisive debate over same-sex marriage and transgender rights, and subject his nominee to more scrutiny over his or her views on those issues. The Obama order banned companies that do federal work from discriminating against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. It was the first time the government explicitly protected federal workers from discrimination based on gender identity. Leaving those protections, of course, does not preclude another executive order that would roll back gay rights in other areas. Mr. Trump could, for example, still enshrine a religious freedom provision in federal policy. Gay rights advocates seemed unimpressed. Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said Mr. Trump was setting a low bar by claiming credit for not overturning the actions of his predecessor. “L.G.B.T.Q. refugees, immigrants, Muslims and women are scared today, and with good reason,” Mr. Griffin said. “Donald Trump has done nothing but undermine equality since he set foot in the White House.” https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/30/us/politics/obama-trump-protections-lgbt-workers.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&referer= |
Acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates, a holdover from the Obama administration, ordered the Justice Department on Monday not to defend President Trump’s executive order on immigration in court. “I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right,” Ms. Yates wrote in a letter to Justice Department lawyers. “At present, I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.” The decision is largely symbolic — Mr. Trump’s nominee to be attorney general, Jeff Sessions, is likely to be confirmed soon — but it highlights the deep divide at the Justice Department and elsewhere in the government over Mr. Trump’s order. Mr. Trump has the authority to fire Ms. Yates, but as the top Senate-confirmed official at the Justice Department, she is the only one authorized to sign foreign surveillance warrants, an essential function at the department. “For as long as I am the acting attorney general, the Department of Justice will not present arguments in defense of the executive order, unless and until I become convinced that it is appropriate to do so,” she wrote. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/30/us/politics/attorney-general-civil-rights-refugee.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&referer= |
“Because Fayose is not educated enough to understand the dynamics and perspectives of international politics and diplomacy, he has reduced the American international and diplomatic politics to the beer parlour politics of muscle-flexing he runs in Ekiti State where all issues are trivialised and individualised for personal benefits to the detriment of the greater good of the people. “It is a pity that an uninformed upstart is the one calling the shots in the Land of Honour in Ekiti State where knowledge-based information and integrity are the fountains of our development. “Fayose does not have this, hence he was uninformed about the information in public space that Heads of States and Governments across the globe had no need to attend Trump’s inauguration in Washington but would be represented by their heads of missions in America. “Apparently not aware of this information and unwilling to be educated on the new American policy thrust, Fayose rolled out the drums in ignorance to celebrate the absence of the President of his country on that important world stage,” The finishing of Ayodele Fayose! |
Whytelyon:I just attached a piece that shows you a minimum of 4 Muslim countries in Africa, Asia and Middle East with Christians in leadership positions. What else do you want me to prove? Your post reeks of ignorance spiked with distasteful bigotry. That's my point. Tune down the hatred for Islam and Muslims, you will only hurt yourself. That religion is growing, expanding and breaking new grounds, your hatred isn't affecting it in whatsoever way. Save your sanity. |
Whytelyon:You just displayed your abject ignorance and pathetic bigotry. But let me offer you a cure, here:

This is so wrong. |
A Roman Poet called Horace once said that "adversity reveals genius, prosperity conceals it." I believe the recession is presently acting as the adversity that is bringing the genius in us. For a long time the prosperity we've enjoyed in form of oil boom has made us lazy and import dependant so much that we never believed we are even capable of producing toothpicks. But with recession and scarcity of FX for stupid importations we've started looking inward. We've seen the surge in Rice and grains production. In the next 12 months or so we will be exporting Rice instead of importing. A whole lot of youths are now considering have an acre or two of farmlands to cultivate. I've personally spoken to few seriously planning to start farming in 2017 as another stream of income. Benefit of recession. Adversity is after all, mother of invention. |
Lotta folks here aren't really getting it. Yusuf Buhari is the son of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria. He's part of the First Family. He's probably entitled to security details. The Presidency takes care of the both the Office of the President and the Family of the President. Also, impersonation is an infringement on the rights and privacy of the victim. Someone somewhere is impersonating Yusuf Buhari and that's dangerous. The impersonator is likely to be a scammer, a fraud. People are probably going to be swindled soon or later using those fake SM accounts. So, The Presidency have dual duty to protect the image of Yusuf Buhari and the First Family, and the general public on the other hand. And to those thinking it's an aberration not to be on any SM platforms, think again. Social Media is a distraction to some, business opportunity to others and means of connecting to some. We can't all be in love with SM. If Yusuf Buhari dealings don't make having presence on any SM a necessity, he is under no obligation to get involve in what he doesn't fancy. Some people love their privacy you know. Let's try to avoid getting too emotional over things we could easily understand with little thinking. |
735i:Consult your doctor immediately. |
vodutive:OK, I'm not about to engage you in fruitless merry-go-round of arguement. So here it is: You erroneously said $3million but the story mentioned €3million. Dollar isn't Euros. Big difference. I wasn't talking about value but the essence. So relax I know you're good with exchange rate, no need to prove anything to me. Also, I really don't care about whether it is in million or billion. My point is when a more prosperous and more powerful country is making donations to you to assist you on a particular mission or project, you don't really refuse. I mentioned US annual Military assistance to Israel to give you a perspective. I wasn't trying to compare value. Again, essence. Substance. Got it? So spare me your 'informed' long grammar. You're barking the wrong tree. |
vodutive:First, it is not $3 million but €3 million. Big difference there. Then, it was reported that Germany is 'donating', countries rarely reject donations from countries more prosperous and powerful than them. US donate to Israel every year. |
Jakpon:Dumb |
The excuses GEJ disciples are giving here are so ridiculous and stupid. But again, they are duty-bound to defend their hero even if that may make them appear like dimwits. |
That's 14 years ago. Incredible! I'm once again glad we sacked those thieves in 2015. In the 5 years of GEJ, we earned N51 trillion from Crude Oil and yet these abandoned power projects couldn't be completed. Is there any wonder there are still blackouts everywhere in the country? |
juman:OMG! Did you even read the article at all? Even the title said abandoned since 2002. 2002! That's 14 years ago. And your anger is on a government that's not even 2 years old? Wow! you're a special case. |
riczy:Those aren't guns. Those are Scottish Bagpipes. Use your glasses next time. |
All Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS member countries have resolved to attend the inauguration of the Gambian President-Elect, Adama Barrow, on January 18, 2017, in conformity with the Gambian constitution. According to a communiqué presented at the end of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government held in Abuja on Saturday, the out-going President Yahya Jammeh must uphold the result of the December 1 presidential election in the country and must guarantee the safety and protection of the President-elect. “The Authority calls on President Yahya Jammeh to accept the result of the polls and refrain from any action likely to compromise the transition and peaceful transfer of power to the President-Elect,’’ the communiqué added. The Authority also appointed President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and his Ghanaian counterpart as Chief Mediator and Co-Mediator respectively in the Gambian political impasse. http://saharareporters.com/2016/12/17/gambia-ecowas-names-buhari-%E2%80%98chief-mediator%E2%80%99-insists-jammeh-must-handover-power |
Happy Birthday Mr. President. You are not perfect but you are exactly what we need in Nigeria to bring back discipline, sanity, probity and patriotism so we can achieve our full potential as a nation and one country. May God continue to bestow you with courage and wisdom to steer the ship of our country to enviable destination. I wish you a healthy long life. God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria. |
davidigomanel:Goodluck Jonathan ADC was Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe. The Commandant Presidential Air Fleet under Goodluck Jonathan was Air Marshal Adesola Amosu. These are not Hausa men and you were not annoyed then abi? Stop attaching ethnic coloration to everything President Buhari do. I am NOT Hausa. |
bart10:Goodluck Jonathan ADC was Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe. That's not a Northern name, or is it? |
