A sound indicator that economy recovery is on track and strong. With the continuous growth in Agriculture and Manufacturing we can have a sound and balanced economy where fluctuations in oil prices doesn't set our economy into teeter-totter situation. This government is working. I'm hoping for a better 2018. |
9jakohai:Oil has always been our source of growth. |
Sutherland Springs is just a tiny town in in Wilson County in the state of Texas with just two gas stations, one post office and a few hundred residents. The town is largely unknown to the world until Devin Patrick Kelley, a 26 years old former US Airforce personnel drove into the town with loaded guns and start shooting at churchgoers during a Sunday Service at a First Baptist Church. 26 people with ages ranging from 1 year old baby to 77 years old woman were killed for no reason at all. Another 20 people were injured, 10 in critical conditions. The attack was absolutely unprovoked and unnecessary. Mr. Kelly was a father and a husband until he was discharged from the US Airforce in 2014 following a court martial for assaulting his wife and child. The Police actually identified him as a "young, white male" and according to same Police his motive is not clear yet. But, according to Donald Trump, this "shooter" is "a very deranged individual". The President noted that Americans "have a lot of mental health problems in our country, but this isn't a guns situation". In other words, this is NOT a terrorist attack because a white bloke is always going crazy and shooting people for fun they don't commit terrorist attacks. Though he killed 26 people. On 31st October, 2017, Sayfullo Habibullaevich Saipov, a 29 years old Uzbekistan truck driver drove into people in Lower Manhattan, New York and killed 8 people and injured 11 people. 5 Argentineans, 2 Americans and 1 Belgian were the people killed. He was an Uber driver with several 5-stars and he is a father of 3 young children. He was an accountant back in Uzbekistan before he won the Diversity Immigrant Visa in 2010. He was known to be " little aggressive" and not very religious when he arrived the US. He was known to be a very nice man. He's a Muslim. But according to Donald Trump, this particular killer should "get death penalty". Later that night the President also twitted that the Judiciary "should move fast. DEATH PENALTY!". In other words, this guy is a Muslim, not one of us and should be executed as soon as possible. He killed 8 people. On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock, a 64 years old retired wealthy accountant, shot and killed 58 people and injured 527 at a Las Vegas music concert. He set up a firing point in his hotel room on 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Hotel. 23 guns were found and another set of 19 firearms and explosives were found in his Nevada home. Tannerite were found at his home and ammonium nitrite were found in his car. According to his brother, Stephen is "a regular guy who liked playing video poker, live music and eating burritos." But he had a troubled childhood with a bank robber for a father. In fact, his father was once on FBI's 10 Most Wanted list. But according to Donald Trump, Stephen Paddock shooting is "an act of pure evil" and he described the "shooter" as a "sick man, a demented man". In other words, this guy is just another troubled man who is mentally sick. Not once was "terrorist" used to describe him even though he killed 58 people and injured over 500. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a 23 years old Nigerian who was sentenced to 4 life terms and 50 years without parole on February 16, 2012. He is presently cooling off his heels at ADX Florence, a SuperMax Federal Prison at Colorado. He was convicted of 8 criminal counts which includes attempted use of 'weapon of mass destruction', attempted murder of 289 people, and attempted destruction of civilian aircraft. What exactly did he do? Well on 25 December, 2009 he was caught attempting to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his pant while on board Northwest Airlines, Flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, USA. He DIDN'T killed anybody yet he is on 4 life prison sentences and 50 years in jail without parole. He was a Muslim and he is black so he was branded a terrorist. On June 17, 2015, during a prayer service at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Charleston, South Carolina, Dylan Storm Roof, a 21 years old 'white supremacist', took a Glock 41 semi-automatic pistol and a Colt .45-caliber automatic hangun, and assasinated 9 African-American churchgoers including a Pastor and State Senator. One person was injured. Dylan confessed that decided to killed these innocent people because he wanted to ignite a race war in the US. He was indicted on 33 Federal charges and none include terrorism or even domestic terrorism. He was convicted of hate crimes, murder, attempted murder and obstruction of exercise of religion resulting in deaths. He was found guilty of all charges both Federal and State. On January 11, 2017, Federal sentenced him to death while on April 10, 2017, State of South Carolina gave him life imprisonment without parole. Dylan Roof was never addressed as a terrorist but as a 'white man shooter' or a 'white supremacist mass murderer'. He is white, he is Christian so he was probably incapable of commuting a terrorist attack. But does the words or phrase used to describe an evil and violent person after a mass murder matter at all? Dylan got death sentence and a life sentence, Umar got 4 life sentences. Both of them probably won't ever be free again. Stephen and Patrick are dead so it probably doesn't matter anymore. Sayfullo is most likely going to be sentenced to death. Fact is they all end up dead. Nevertheless, the psychological effects of branding a killer as a terrorist or not is never the same on the perpetrator's family, race and religion. The physical ripple effects are also more grievous on the family, race and religion of the perpetrators when they are branded as terrorists as opposed to the free ride enjoyed when the word 'terrorist' is deliberately omitted when describing a mass murderer. What is terrorism and what is not? This is the big question. The question that is dividing not just Americans but the world at large. Does race and religion matter in describing a violent criminal act as terrorism? The Nevada State Law, described terrorism an "any act that involves the use of violence intended to cause great bodily harm or death to the general population." At the Federal level in the US, "domestic terrorism" is classified as any violent activities committed on US soil that are dangerous to human life, that violate federal or state law and intended to intimidate or coerce civilians or governments. The FBI also suggested that for any violent crime to be considered a terrorist attack there must be a deliberate intent to "intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives". Are most of the mass shootings committed by white men not intended to cause great bodily harm? Are these crimes not dangerous to human life? Are these crimes not against both federal and state laws? Are these crimes by white mass murderers not intended to intimidate the civilian population in furtherance of at least social objectives? Why aren't any white male mass killer ever described as a terrorist in the US? Is this part of the institutionalized hypocrisy in the American justice system? OAM4J Mynd44 |
fleetfeet:The level of ignorance people display here is pathetic. I weep for my country. You know sometimes I don't even bother to respond to some of these guys, but occasional I just attempt to correct and educate them, yet all I get back are insults. What kind of future lies ahead for Nigeria when our youths are too lazy to learn, too eager to embrace get-rich-quick schemes, too slow to read and so quick to insult? Our leaders are alarmingly corrupt and our youths are hopelessly ignorant and pitiably lazy. We need a miracle in this country. |
zinizta:Absolutely. It is so sad. The high-stakes ignorance is alarming. Sometimes I read comments on this forum and I get afraid for the future of this country. With so much ignorance amongst our youth, how can this country ever move forward. |
paulynpen:This is the problem with guys like you. Y'all too lazy to read. Have you read the World Bank report? No. How then can you judge or condemn what you're ignorant about? You guys are just a pathetic case of study. Instead of sticking to the topic you decided to insult me. But I understand your lame tactics. Digress and derail the flow of the topic with insults because you're too dumb to understand the topic. Anyway, I don't trade insults with kids but I will rather educate you. So, here are the areas the report discussed: 1. Starting a business 2. Dealing with construction permits 3. Getting electricity 4. Registering properties 5. Getting credits 6. Protecting minority investors 7. Paying taxes 8. Trading across borders 9. Enforcing contracts 10. Resolving insolvency 11. Labour market regulation Pray, tell where is the issue of price of fuel from "87 to 145" comes in? Where does security comes in? Where does Naira exchange rate comes in? Where does gridlock on the road comes in? Where does your so-called "bad debt to external reserve ratio" comes in? These are even issues you have no idea about, because if you do you won't raised them as points. That's so weak. Harken, I'm not your average Joe, if you want to talk about issues like this you must be in the know. Don't come here and sputter flapdoodle and you think I will let it go. |
FarahAideed:Responding to you is probably a waste of my precious time because you ignorance stinks to heaven. It is obvious you haven't read the report. Is that how you run your so-called "multiple innovation driven businesses"? Lol. I can imagine what kind of businesses you run with your weak and unsubstantiated assumptions. By the way if you have to shout to people what you've achieved, it is obvious your achievements aren't big enough. Meanwhile, let me educate you a little. You see the report considered the following areas: 1. Starting a business 2. Dealing with construction permits 3. Getting electricity 4. Registering properties 5. Getting credits 6. Protecting minority investors 7. Paying taxes 8. Trading across borders 9. Enforcing contracts 10. Resolving insolvency 11. Labour market regulation Then about the modern thinking in CAC, why wasn't the modern thinking done under GEJ? Why is the modern thinking happening under the " direction less, rudderless leadership of the useless Buhari"? Guy, why is critical thinking such a stress to you? Listen, if you can't even attempt to read the report prepared by highly educated and intelligent individuals in the World Bank, then it is sheer waste of time debating you on the report. Go. Read. Comprehend. Then come back and let's discuss the report. Otherwise, stay off my intellectual town and wallow in your ignorance-ville. |
Spaxon:Your frustration is understandable. But you should have take time to read the report instead of assuming the improved ranking was done by Nigerians. FYI, World Bank do the ranking based on ease of doing business in a country. It measures the business environment and how government policies, MDAs and rules make it easy for people to do business in the country. This can only be achieved by government not by citizens without political powers. Always try to understand a topic before you make lame contributions. If you hate Buhari, that's your prerogative but don't insult our sensibilities with your duncical comments. |
Spylord48:Have you read the full World Bank Doing Business Report for 2018? I have. You should too. I know if you do you won't be here saying statistics of Abuja and Lagos was used to extract a conclusion on the country. I have read it and I know all the 36 States including FCT was analyzed in that report. Go check the report. It is over 200 pages. But there's a special report on Nigeria, it is 122 pages. Go and read. You will be enlightened. If you're too lazy to read the whole report go to their website, use a good browser and you can select each state to check their reports. Nigerian youths are so lazy and used to sitting on their bums and reeling out lame assumptions. Research. Read. Be. Enlightened. |
9jvirgin:Unfortunately, I'm not convinced you're a staunch Buhari supporter. Real PMB supporters are more reasonable even when they disagree with his policies or decisions. Moreover, this report isn't even from PMB or his government, this is World Bank publishing a report on 190 countries of the world. How is it now "Senseless, Meaningless and Irrational"? Do you even understand the essence of the Doing Business Report by World Bank? If you don't, all you've got to do is ask someone to explain it to you, not condemning what you have little understanding of. Do you it is reports like this that motivates foreign businesses and institutional investors to invest their dollars in the country? Do you know that UK is presently celebrating this report because despite Brexit palaver they are still ranked among the first 10? Do you know that Nigeria being ranked among the Top 10 Reformers in the world is something that will eventually result into increased FDIs with multiplier effects of increased employments? Finally, not every positive policy, not every positive accomplishment, not every positive reports will immediately result into your so-called "good life for Nigerians". Reforms don't work that way. Economics don't work that way. Ever heard of gestation period? |
FarahAideed:This is the bane of intellectual development of Nigerian youths. The World Bank gathered and analyzed comprehensive quantitative data to compare business regulation environments across 190 economies and selected cities at the subnational and regional level in order to provide objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement. Yet, you think you know better than them without any qualitative research or quantitative analysis from you, but mere emotions and sentiments. Do you think serious businessmen and institutional investors relay on childish emotions and namby-pamby sentiments? FYI, they don't. They relay on more scientific researches like this World Bank Doing Business Report. If it was so easy to do business under GEJ why weren't we where we are today in the ranking during his tenure? Meanwhile, who appointed those men and women presently driving the force of reforms going on in the business environment in Nigeria? Goodluck Jonathan abi? SMH. |
BeeBeeOoh:The Judiciary appointed him NOT the Executive. Do you even know the difference? Youths? SMH. |
Firefire:The CJN appointed him not FGN. Be in the know before you comment. |
otitokoroleti:Lol Lautech Teaching Hospital? You call that an achievement? You're obviously from Ogbomoso but you're not sincere at all. Do you call that hastily and badly constructed hospital an achievement? Have you been there lately? Do you think any right thinking Ogbomoso son of the soil really call that rubbish an achievement? Do you know what that mediocre building cost us in Ogbomoso? Where is our General Hospital today that was destroyed to construct the stupid Teaching Hospital? Wo, I'm in Ogbomoso o so don't even mention Akala achievement when sane people are listening. Lautech is closed right now and the economy of Ogbomoso is dead and you're saying Akala or Ladoja achieved more than Ajimobi. I'm not a fan of Ajimobi but he obviously is more progressive and achieved more in Oyo State that those thugs that preceded him. |
So many ignorant comments, so little understanding. Every single country of the world seek for FDIs. Even the US as the biggest economy in the world still seek for FDIs. In fact the US is the largest receiver of of Foreign Direct Investment in the world. Britain is planning of bringing FDI to us through our power and oil and gas sectors and some kids here are shouting enslavement. Can Nigerians alone provide the investment to develop these sectors? Would we prefer the Chinese or the Russians to invest in these sectors instead of the British? Foreign Direct Investment is coming from Britain you're complaining. FGN seeking for external loans you still complain. Yet, you complain of lack of development and lack of jobs. Will the investments needed to develop the country fall from heaven? Fact is you don't have to complain about everything, sometimes just ignore what you have little or no understanding of. |
shammah1:Cognitive dissonance |
juman:They've done a lot already. Rice importation bill has reduced. Wheat importation is also decreasing. Nigeria has started mixing NPK fertilizers after the agreement signed with Morocco instead of importing bagged fertilizers. Nigerian Army have started patronizing boots made in Aba. All government sponsored functions now used drinks, foods and juices produced in Nigeria. Government has started patronizing Innosons Motors. Now what have you done personally? Have you changed your taste for foreign goods and products? Have you changed your attitude to Made in Nigeria goods? Have you ever deliberately seek for products or foods made in Nigeria even though cheaper but imported or smuggled foreign alternative exist? It is to cast aspersion but you have to be the change you want to see. |
oodua1stson:You need to read more. My advice to you is just pick any good book written on the rise of the Asian Tigers. Thank me later. Meanwhile, if UK is importing more than 80% of what they consume and heaven didn't fall according to you, pray tell, what are the reasons heaven didn't fall? Could it be because the value of the "80%" imports is insignificant compared to the value of exports? Could their "80%" be because they have little or no resources to produce substitutes locally? A good analyst don't take things on their face value, you need to dig deeper. Relative comparison don't fly just like that. |
The interpersonal chemistry between the husbands is replicated in the wives. The affection, trust and respect the President and his Vice have for each is manifest in their wives. I can't remember Nigeria ever having such closely knitted First and Second Family in our long checkered history. God bless The President and his Wife God bless The Vice President and his Wife God bless Nigerians God bless Nigeria |
cristianisraeli:Phew! It must be hard for you. Pele. Anyway, let me help you for the last time. Arabic is a language spoken by Arabs whether Christians or Muslims. Islam originated from Arab world therefore, commonsense demands that their Holy Book will be written in their language. Meanwhile, this Holy Book called Holy Qur'an has been translated into over 100 languages of the world. Arabic like Hebrew is a Semitic language though of the Central type while Hebrew is of the Northwest type. Like Holy Qur'an, Holy Bible was originally written in Hebrew a language native to Israel which is the birthplace of Christianity. But when the Europeans hijacked Christianity the medium of preaching and evangelising became English and 90% of the world Holy Bibles are written in English. Both Christianity and Islam originated from Middle East. The English speaking Whites hijacked Christianity and the Holy Bible lost its original form as written in Hebrew and Greek. Today you rarely find a Bible written in these languages but today majority of Holy Bible are in English language. The Holy Qur'an still maintains it original form but that doesn't change the fact that NOT all Arab-speaking people are Muslims and NOT all books written in Arabic are about Holy Qur'an or Islam, many are about Holy Bible and Christianity. Arabic is a language like Igbo, like Yoruba, like French, like English, like Mandarin. There are Bibles written in Arabic as there are Qur'an written in English. If you're still not enlightened after this then it is only prayers that can save you because it means your ignorance is beyond the physical. May God help you. Amen. |
cristianisraeli:Lol. I'm sure you and your folks read your Bible both at home and in the Church in "Hebrew and Aramaic". In fact, I'm sure you've never seen any Bible written in English. And I'm sure when the British Missionaries came to Nigeria they came with and thought the early converter with Bibles written in " Hebrew and Aramaic". I'm also sure that Samuel Ajayi Crowther translated "Hebrew and Aramaic", not English Bible Bible into Yoruba. Like I advised you earlier: Read and read and read more. Your ignorance is scary, it's detrimental to your mental health, your state of mind especially when you laced it with bigotry. Don't worry I will help you with prayers. Pele. |
cristianisraeli:Your ignorance is scary. So the English language we speak in Nigeria which is the language the Christian Bible is written is also associated with Christianity? Why do people like just refuse to be enlightened is something I can't understand. Ignorance is a disease but laced with bigotry it is lethal. Save yourself and read more, study more and widen your horizon. Pele. |
Paperwhite:So Arabic as a language to be studied is your problem now abi? But when your Bible is written in Arabic with Arabic speaking folks as target that's not a problem abi? Haven't you seen or heard of Bibles written in Arabic? Do you know that Orthodox Christians in Egypt use Bibles written in Arabic language? Do you even know that Christians in Arabic speaking countries gives sermons in Arabic language? Do you even realize that Arabic is just a language like English, French and Mandarin? Make una dey read wide and deep to deepen your knowledge and intellect, to widen your horizon and wean you off of your deep-seated bigotry and intolerance. |
ChangetheChange:Absolute fantasy. Politically naive imagination. No truth in all these. I'm completely a fan, supporter, admirer and student of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Believe me, you can keep guessing and imagining all kind of scenarios but you will always get wrong if you think BAT will jump ship. You still don't understand who Jagaban is. One thing I can assure you though is that come 2019, Tinubu + Buhari + Osinbajo will be on same team same party. You can take that to the bank. |
EvangD:Because before Buhari became President nobody has ever stolen corn or anything before, abi? If person talk now una go go report person. OK o, no wahala make una kotinu to dey mix ignorance with bigotry dey drink. |
Keneking:Because before APC come nobody has ever stolen corn or anything before, abi? If person talk now una go go report person. OK o, no wahala make una kotinu to dey mix ignorance with bigotry dey drink. |
EzeUche:Everybody, everywhere is always afraid of thugs and unruly people terrorising law abiding citizens. If Shekau declare sit-at-home protest in any Northern State, people will comply even if the whole Nigerian Army are deployed. Why? Safety first. That explains the so-called success of the sit-at-home protest in the SouthEast. |
NwaAmaikpe:Is APC your real problem or actualization of Biafra? Closet PDP. Lol. That's why most Nigerians including right thinking Igbos don't take you people serious at all. See ehn, you better go and look for where you PVC is or better still go and register if you don't have. If you think there will be no election in Anambra in November, you will be gravely disappointed that the candidate you dislike most will be the winner and will be the next Governor of Anambra. Siddon there dey romanticize Biafra utopia for Nairaland while people are on the street campaigning for the election. |
luvinhubby:First, Tinubu didn't sell the South to nobody. Does Tinubu own the South? How many of the Southern States believes in Tinubu? The South West are the shrewdest of political strategists. in 2011 the South West went for Jonathan and in 2015 they went for Buhari. Tinubu knows when and how to protect the interests of his people. Can we say that about the South-East? Second, there's nothing like Northern oligarchy, what we have is political elites forming a common ground to defraud Nigerians. So all Nigerians need to form a common ground to defeat them not the tribal chauvinism you're campaigning for which will only divide us more instead of uniting us against a common enemy - political elites. |
Omeny:Starting and fighting a war you can't win and running into exile in disguise is not bravery, it's pure stupidity and cowardice. A Yoruba man would have use the power of his brain in such situations and create a win-win result instead using ineffectual brawn that killed millions of innocent souls. |
