Pep just changed everything when he thought people were catching onto his City side and now all of a sudden his RB/CB becoming DM with floating 8's in half spaces and in channels. Everyone's playing catchup now. By the time it becomes vogue and half the teams are doing it, you can be sure that Pep will change again. The man is step ahead of everyone else in terms of tactical adaptation. Give that same city squad to Ancelotti or any other coach and he won't be this dominant.

The "expected points" did not magically appear from thin air. Brighton performances this season per match is why their xPTS is so high. Underperforming their xPTS doesn't take anything away from their performance. The fact here is Brighton performance metrics put them amongst the best teams in the league this season. Top 4 to be exact.

And let's not kid ourselves, the PL of the early 2000's wasn't half as competitive as it is today so his stats, while impressive are only par for the course. Sheva played in a slightly tougher league IMO at that point in time, facing meaner defences while playing as a lone striker for most of the time, a rarity in that period. He also had a better record in Europe. His numbers speak for themselves.

Premier league was usually amongst top 2 in Uefa ranking during those years so your comparison with Ligue 1 and bundles Liga makes no sense. How meaner and tougher is a league were Cristiano Lucarelli was finishing top scorer, outscoring Sheva and averaging 20goals per season from 2004 to 2007.

Nobody here makes De gea the only scapegoat for any of our horrible performances. The attack, Midfield and defense has been heavily blamed at different times this season. Even Casemiro has been called out for being poor since his return from suspension. The criticism of Degea here has always been about his limitations.

1. He has poor distribution which affects how we play.

2. He is not a sweeper keeper and doesn't command his box well enough.

3. He is very poor at saving penalities.

4. He has started making silly mistakes that has cost us some goals this season.

When any of this get mentioned you and others starts getting defensive for no reason whatsoever.
