UNICAL STUDENTS CRY OUT ON THE UNFAIR TREATMENT OF STUDENTS BY THE MANAGEMENT A student in the university of calabar with name undisclosed had taken the the media to lament on the challenge students are facing in the institution while also noting the unfavoured atmosphere the school management have placed the students.. In few months ago, the school fees for the institution was hiked by the the management. While students have cried out to the increase, there have been outrageous charges placed on the students which has brought many students to the edge of dropping. In a statement ,the student was quoted saying " I started my journey in 2018/2019 to become a student of one of the popular Nigerian federal universities, known as the University of Calabar. It was an exciting moment when I discovered that I was offered admission to study at the noble university of my dreams. Things were going well during the administration of the then VC, Professor Zana, until the emergence of the first female VC in the person of professor Florence Obi Banku, the incumbent. Professor Florence Obi Banku promised the students of this great university that she was going to get rid of corrupt practices, fight for the rights of students, and make the campus student-friendly and enjoyable. Barely a few year in office, she increased our fees to a level that most students cannot afford to pay. Obi's reign as the VC has made life frustrating and miserable for a lot of students. Many students have dropped out because of the alarming increment in fees and many other bills. Education was meant to be free, apart from so-called additional "charges''. The students' union government has taken a new shape as a political platform, rather than being a union. The students can no longer make their choice of a leader but, instead, selection is being made by the management and appointments are given to whomever has been chosen by them. The union that was supposed to be the voice of the students is now a threat to the student community. The students' voices can no longer be heard; there's no more protest when things are not favouring the students. The union dances to the management's tune, according to how they will benefit personally. The recently concluded election shows the level of corruption and how the system is being manipulated. The students can't fight for their rights because their leaders have already given consent on their behalf. Should the students gather to demonstrate in peaceful protest - boom - the environment is filled with both military and paramilitary forces to stop the demonstration. What is the function of the students' union government in every university? Things are getting worse with every passing day. Now, the late payment of fees attracts extra charges of N5,000 and portals are being closed without consideration. Uploading of results online is being done without proper guidelines; the sites are not properly coded and students keep complaining, while facing challenges in one way or the other. Where is the right to education for every child? We're stuck in this without a voice to speak for us. Many of us chose UniCal because we are from average backgrounds - we chose UniCal because it was affordable for all. Some of the newly admitted students have let go of their admissions because their expectations have been cut short. Both new and returning students have been unable to pay their fees, because of the hike in school charges. The students are dying in silence. Soon education will no longer be for every Nigerian child; soon people will be more be interested in vocational training than in university. I call on all Nigerian students in the University of Calabar to say no to the hike in school charges. Say no to the undemocratic selection in student union government (SUG). Say no to the closing of school fee portals he added.

In my own opinion, the only reason you love the first girl is that, you disvirgin her n evry man does that, n you might not too know much about her because of the distance but your heart belongs to the second girl cuz she is exhibiting the attitudes you love so much, for me, I will advice you come in terms with the first girl make her to understand that the distance has many things to say with ur relationship with her n probably tell her you can't go on again and focus on the second. But let me advise again, never try to blow things out of proportion with the girl you disvirgin just play on a safe ground. |
The photos are disturbing! Viewers Discretion is required. A Car Battery thieve was caught and burnt yo ashes this morning at Yellow Duke. A resident who reported the incident this morning said that the young man has gone out to steal batteries from parked cars. However, it has not been confirmed that whether the young man was caught red handed. This incident will now raise the killing by jungle justice to about 9 in the month of February alone. How a once peaceful State is gradually becoming a hot bed of criminal activities has kept citizens and residents in Calabar at awe. It is more worrying that residents do not have confidence in the police force again. It is sad. We must not burn criminals. Let us trust in the police force. Let us also use the whistleblowing arrangement of the State government to report criminals and their activities. Please let us be civil. Report criminals to the police.
