The escrow site must first build a name before buyers and sellers will even think of using it or parting with their hard earned money. |
ochukoccna: @ bonatee,do you think war is all about sitting behind a keyboard or watching action moviesSo what boko haram is doing is not enough to start religious war?, it is when mend decide to react that it should now be termed acts leading to a war. It is inevitable that we talk behind our computers, newspapers and whatever medium of communication before going to war. When we get to the war part, we are going to cross it but for now we are talking about tit for tat strategy. It is one of the expedient strategies needed to sort the boko haram crisis since no one has a monopoly to violence. Can you tell me anywhere in the world where they bomb churches and kill Christians like in northern Nigeria?. |
Muslims have come out to say that boko haram are not representing islam so i believe they should be free to do whatever they want to do. MEND is not an affiliation of CAN or Christians and they should be free to do whatever they want to do as well. So it is when mend decides to bomb mosques that people could find their voice and start shouting about religious crisis. I wonder what people will say if their loved ones have been a victim of all these boko haram crisis. There is no justification for what boko haram is doing, since they think they are mad so let the madness spread round the country then. OPC and Massob can as well join in the madness and if it will even lead to tribal and ethnic killing or even civil war then let it be so. Enough of the one sided killings. ![]() |
The best way to solve the boko haram crisis is for mosque to be bombed and Moslems to be killed across the country, it is the sad truth and we should not be deceiving ourselves. |
Nice start and why don't you make all the discussion here instead of doing it by email?. |
This is it but only local government registration is going on now i think. http://www.lagosresidents.org/home/ |

cdamsel: i ve a lect who made 1st class & u wld clearly know he made it through craming & pouring,he doesn't know jack, wen 1 ask a q/a he doesn't know he looks @ u like u d evil witch of OZ.That's one of the problem of cramping facts as you cannot defend or discuss those knowledge competently outside the exam or lecture hall. When a student focuses too much on cramping and pouring then with time it will be very difficult for you to go back in seeking knowledge, it kills your creativity and ability to think outside the box. Forget your country as in this modern global village, your skills, knowledge and competence are needed the world over. They look beyond good grades out there and seek for those who actually know what they were doing in school. Education according to Albert Einstein is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think. Most of what we do in classrooms in Nigeria from nursery to tertiary education is the memorization of facts and we definitely forget those things quickly over time. Yes teaching is a form of learning and so do interactive discussion, playing, observation, experimenting, inquisitive thinking or actions, trial and error, apprenticeship, personal research and independent studies too. Vivian chinaza said a lot for everyone to think and decide what to do, we were all product of this education system and society that defers us towards cramping and aiming for good grades or paper certificates. At a point in life we do realize this mistake and woe betide us if we do not deviate from that path after this realization. Just like vivian i am weaning myself off that Nigerian mentality and aiming to pursue raw knowledge. P.S You can take a look at the education section of nairaland and see how these secondary schools kids are looking for expo to cramp and pour in their WAEC and JAMB examinations. |
Nice discussion and this is obtainable also in some developed countries down here in Europe. |
cdamsel: a friend & 1 were arguring about it,she said she wants knowlege,I said I want a taste of both worlds also, just wanted 2 get pple's opinion on d topic.Hmm i see your point but to me, your friend is right to seek for knowledge as getting good grades is just for expedient reasons through those other means you mentioned. Knowledge stays with you forever, empowers you, opens your mind and sets the foundation for further exploits. I also seek for good grades sometimes through cramping and pouring then hoping to acquire the knowledge later but it does not turn out the way we intended in some cases and hence the ills of cramping and pouring lol. |
I believe everyone should strive for knowledge, acquiring skills and building up competences but with the way life is now then a mix of both would be my choice ( excluding cash and kind ). |
4good: @I don't think the competition will be that much because demand exceeds supply at the moment. It will be a money making avenue for the schools because the cost of the examination will be linked to quality and standard. I foresee schools like Unilag, OAU and the rest charging high for their exams if it is not regulated. |
KenGali: I advocate that Federal universities should be fully competitive in admission. State universities with state interest can consider their residents (not indigenes . . Cause I do not know where that definition is in Nigerian constitution) within an openly transparent and competitive process. Their is no part of Nigeria that is made up of genetically dumb people to be considered educationally disadvantaged.I am in support of what you have up there and never saw the reason why we needed these catchment area and ELDS of a thing. Maybe it was useful in the past but not any more in my opinion as times have really changed. It is so flawed that even if an indigene of that state went to one of the best schools or schooled in developed states like Lagos, his or her cut of point is by default based on either merit, catchment or lastly ELDS points. |
KenGali: Let me ask this, does quota make a prospective student qualified for something that he is not qualified for?Maybe you are getting me wrong, i am not an advocate of the quota system above as i was even trying to think of ways to make the bulk of the students admitted to be on merit instead of smuggling some in through catchment areas and ELDS. This is a link to show you how the present system works and the federal universities are part of it by default. http://www.fuotuoke.edu.ng/admission/admission-guidelines-into-Nigerian-Universities
Not an i.diot that names test-types after himself.
I think it has been changed to dual based testing from the previous dibu based testing. |
KenGali: Why are they spending their money training for what they will never use?You are very right my brother that people are just trying to get a degree because it is what the labour market demands. I will not really blame them though but the ministry of education that has not been able to develop our education system to make these people creative. Our education system is structured negatively to the quote below and even the learned facts are not top quality. "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think". Albert Einstein This video is a must watch for everyone to know why there is high level of unemployment in Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfB3EJlefxA |
4good: @Do you think pre fixing a lowered cut-point for ELDS ( just like catchment areas ) is the right way to go and any students from such states that could not meet up should forget about admission to that degree program. Fixing cut-off points creates the possibility of not even having one students from such states scale through instead of reserving a quota for them even if they score 120 in the test. |
@4good Hello and thanks for replying to my post but i have more questions if you don't mind. Hello bro/sis, let me attempt to answer these questionsHow does this arrangement affect the capacity for each course intake if the number of candidates beating the cut off points exceeds the course capacity. The analysis you have up there will only work if the cut-off points is fixed after the examination in my opinion. Fixing it after the examination will only lead to manipulation and corruption, it is good i know the cut of points before attempting any institution examination. The normal procedure around the world is to fix the cut-off points or passmark before you even attempt the admission process. There are minimum passmark for TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, GMAT AND GRE which the schools specify for before you can be considered for admission. Beating this passmark still does not guaranty you admission as the school reserves the right to grant candidates whom they feel are better than you based on other reasons like work experience. |
Please to everyone mentioning merit admission as one of the benefit of this new policy then i have some questions to ask. 1) What happens to admission based on catchment areas and different cut off points in place right now?. 2) What about these so called educationally less developed states and the need to reserve a certain quota for students from these states?. 3) What about schools cooperating to conduct exams that is valid in all of these schools ?. |
KenGali: In addition to scrapping JAMB. WAEC should be encouraged to conduct an aptitude test for admission, which schools can decide to accept or reject based on the standards maintained by WAEC. There should be no law behind it, just like SAT in US. Some schools and applicant will definitely find it difficult conducting and sitting for exams for each school. It is also wasteful for each school to be conducting its own test.Credibility to me is the main issue at the end of the day because your secondary school transcript and WAEC result should be enough for you to gain admission. The aptitude test like SAT needs to be credible and secure before schools can use it. I will not be surprised if it goes the same way as JAMB that started on a bright note before it became so bad for the schools to ask for Post UTME exams. Kudos GEJ.Good ideas (except the student loan ) but without the fundamentals in place or efficient management then the suggestion to guaranty student loans might be dead on arrival. We might just be breeding ghost student throughout the country and without an identification system then it is not possible in my opinion. We should also consider ways of de-emphasizing Bachelors. Most of what people do in work places required a 2 years certificate not four years. Why spend and train for capacity you will not utilize. Imagine an engineer 5 years as a cashier,. A Chemist or Biologist chasing people for account. All they needed is a diploma in marketing not the study of of quantum physics and Mitosis. Lets use our resources judiciously. Train fewer Bachelors, but train them very well to be creative. There should be relevant agencies that should have taken care of this and we don't really need the government to push for this. Dangote asked for graduates to become truck drivers when WAEC certificate should be enough in addition to your driving license or training. |
I think the administrators should create a thread where all the development pictures across the nation can be deposited and discussed. We don't need all this dickk measuring contest going on at a time when we should be putting our heads together to discuss more important issues. |
Even in the West, urban development is discussed and appreciated by end users. Nothing at all wrong with that.
True but is this how urban development is discussed in sites like skyscrapercity or what is the use of creating threads for each project and in the same thread abuse other governors or the president. We have all been on nairaland for a while and clearly know that most threads created here are for propaganda purposes. Sincere 9gerian: It is not wrong to commend someone who is doing a good job. By commending such persons, you'r indirectly encouraging them to do more. Why would you encourage a state governor to do more? if he is tired of doing it then he should leave the post for others to come in and play their part. |
Why should a state government be praised for building a flyover bridge? ![]() |
This doesn't really add up in my opinion. |
LGA's cannot work in the present Nigerian structure or system except they decide to commit themselves and do the needful things. They lack the capacity and empowerment to fulfill those long of duties ascribed to them in the constitution. We should not forget the place of corruption and the Nigerian factor in relation to the present state of what is obtainable right now. I don't think shaming them on the internet will make them change their ways, the only way forward is for competent people to be involved in the day to day running of their community. They mostly just pay salaries, collect some levies, taxes, maintain some roads, drainage and one or two things more. There is a huge overlap of duties between States and LGA'S as well. The system has programmed governance to be a failure and highly manipulative by people of special interest. We actually need local governments and i say not the present constituted states, it is the best means of spreading development in my opinion. Well i don't know my local government chairman and clearly do not know what he or she is presently doing. This is Yaba LCDA http://www.yabagov.org/ and OJO LGA http://ojolga.org/ Ekiti state has the best info dedicated to local government administration i guess. |
This is nice and hope more volunteers will indicate interest, there is value in this section if it can be properly managed. |
These calculations do not add up really and there is no explanation of how they have acquired the copyright to distribute those textbooks to these students. They might have saved cost but if the purchase is not based on volume licensing then they have cheated the authors of those textbooks. When are they going to start saving on the huge number of paper report cards, attendance registers and the other items listed up there in the article. It doesn't make sense to me if these tablets are are given to these students outright, moreover is the strategy to save cost only or to digitalize school administration on technological platforms in the state. I would have preferred a situation where they can have computer labs and technological facilities within the schools in addition to this initiative though. Well these is better than nothing and lets see how it goes, many initiatives like this have failed and hope a more comprehensive package is in the pipeline. |
Nice thread and will make my own contribution as at when appropriate. |
The actual problem lies in the fact that it was until the time to pay severance packages that they have to care about data accuracy. They should have had all these data in place right from onset and a simple calculation would have led to the actual figure. Police - No accurate data on their staff PHCN - Same story. Nitel - Same story if we decide to privatize it tomorrow and all of them. This nation is sick and has gone to the dogs for a very long time. |
Ogojohn: MAY I ASK YOU. ALL THESE MEN MARRYING MORE THAN 3 WIVES IN YORUBA LAND ARE THEY NOT NIGERIANS. WE ARE GOOD PRETENDERS. WHAT IS WRONG IN A MARRIED MAN FINDING ANOTHER. IS THERE ANYWHERE OUR LAW PROHIBITED THAT AND GAVE ONLY BACHELORS THAT RIGHT. IS POLYGAMY ILLEGAL IN OUR LAND. I WILL WANT OUR WOMEN TO ANSWER THAT. THEY ARE CAREFULLY BOXING OUR MEN INTO A TIGHT CORNER IN THE NAME OF MONOGAMY BUT OUR LAW PERMITS POLYGAMY TOO. SO THIS FORUM IS NOT FOR CHRISTIANS ONLY. EVEN THE BIBLE RECOGNISED MULTIPLE WIVES. THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE LADY ALONE. IF THEY WANT EXCLUSIVITY. THEY SHOULD RELOCATE UNITED KINGDOM. EVEN SOME SECT IN AMERICA PRACTICES MULTIPLE MARRIAGE..This is nothing but the truth and the whole point of what lola was saying. |
She said the truth.
Thank you and am really surprised at the people abusing her without trying to digest what she just said up there. |
