FamilyRe: Men,would You Allow Your Wives Have Their Own Capital Investments? by Bontee: 4:13pm On Jun 08, 2012
Concerning the topic, there is nothing wrong in a wife owning her own investments or landed properties. she can decide to let the man know or not if she needs guidance or advice concerning that. The man also as usual can own his own investments and landed properties with the knowledge of his wife or not. They can also do joint ventures together or invest some stakes in each others business. I don't see anything wrong here in having things in your own name or doing things personally which might have been your passion.

Now concerning the topic, i don't want to comment until the poster can kindly explain to us the issue behind the 300,000 the wife gave to the man. Was that money a loan which the man is going to pay back or she gave freely out of her heart without expecting anything in return. What is the state of that money right now? has it been returned to the wife either loaned or given with free will?.

Waoh a lot of things are coming into light with this posts and i have been saying it for a long time, you have to pay all your mods to move nairaland forward. The job of a nairaland mod has outgrown the need for people to do it for the love of it while your earn all the money because no one is a fool anymore.

So existing mods still do not have the rights to ban posters?, i feel nairaland has been moderated from a top-down approach process and not the other way round. There should have been adequate discussion with the moderators before coming to make this thread, you cannot pay some and leave some. It is setting a bad precedent and showing lack of appreciation for the contribution they make. No forum is bigger than its moderators, users and partners so i think using the existing mods for this would have been better while making three to five members super mods.

semid4lyfe: Hmmm. . .no offense taken.

As it is, I've got the power to fight spam in the SPORTS SECTION but it wouldn't be bad if I take it across board and get PAID in the process smiley

Also, the 10-18 hrs online requirement wouldn't be a problem for me as I spend all my office hours online and on weekends even more. . .and not forgetting my hands-on experience? grin

Finally, I first became a moderator (Phone Section) by openly applying for the post when it was advertised so I see no reason why I should make under-G moves now.
My brother it is difinitely not bad to take it accross board and get paid for it in the process, abi you come nairaland come count posters?. grin U wey done dey mod for 8 years now for free go see this kind situation and keep quiet?, heaven help those who . . . cheesy

Lol no mind me jare but yes all of them dey related as those na the problems we dey face for this forum and without solving them, this board no go get power to leverage on the strengths wey this forum get to provide further value. I no see which value wey tribalism and derailment bring to this forum than traffic, revenue and entertainment for the posters. Make i give you one example wey i notice, nairaland get one of the best advisers and collection of experienced matured people when we talk of relationship and family issues.

If you make the place matured well then you fit extend am to columns or sections for newspapers and magazines wey them go pay nairaland to feature these relationship issues wey them dey solve everyday. How you want take do am if people dey derail topic, fights and insult themselves everyday for thread, the thind dey remove from the quality and reputation of nairaland to provide that kind of service. Relationship and family issues na big topic for africa as a whole so provide value for it and earn your money. Many examples dey but make i stop here and make we leave am to the spam issues.

P:S The main issue be say nairaland no fit turn any section here to paid services because the quality and reputation dey go down everyday.

This is my preferred spanish configuration based on the euro2012 squad.

1) Casilas/Reina

1) Ramos/Juafran 2) Pique/Javi/Alonso 1) Alba/Abiol

1) Busquets/Javi/Alonso

1) Cesc/Xavi 1) Iniesta

1) Silva/Pedro 1) Torres/Negrado 1) Carzola/Mata

My prefered eleven would be

Casilas

Ramos Pique Javi Alba

Alonso

Silva Cesc Iniesta

Torres Carzola
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Euro 2012 All-Action Thread by Bontee: 5:52am On Jun 08, 2012
maybe busquets? i will be surprised if busquets miss one
minute throughout the tournament. he's the most important player in the
spanish team. then you have pique who must play and maybe pedro.
I don't see how busquets is the most important player in the team when we have alonso, jarvi, beno, valero and many countless defensive midfilders that can play in that position. Every player in a team is dispensable and i see no reason also why pique must play, jarvi, ramos, alonso, albiol and other spanish defenders can will in there in central defense. Busquets that you praise so much might be a flop in other teams with different pattern of play from barcelona.

if villa and puyol were fit, they would be starting as well.
but now that they are not in the travelling squad, i expect del bosque
to mix it like luiz aragones did in euro 2008. a bit of pragmatism and tiki-take.
Even fitting these players into the team does not mean that they have to play tiki taka as the other players do not play tiki taka in their own clubs. There is a difference between barcelona playing tiki taka everyday and bringing players with different footballing style into the Spanish team and try to shove tiki taka down their throat. They have to go back to aragones time as that was the best team they ever had because they won the worldcup through luck and if they follow full tiki taka then count them out of this trophy.

xavi, iniesta and busquets cannot play any other way. the other players of the
other clubs must adapt to the way the barca midfielders play. if they cannot
they will not make the team.
If they cannot play any other way then those players should sit on the bench and allow the others to play a different hybrid style. Iniesta can fit into any style, so xavi should sit on the bence while busquets should adapt also or go the same route. The same zonal marking which you have been referencing made it clear that you cannot have alonso, busquets and xavi in the same team because they will be behind the ball always. You can only do that if you stretch the wings but spain is not doing that well right now and they have to also fit in other non barca players so the hybrid system is the best.

so we are talking xavi, iniesta, busquets, pique, pedro and fabregas.
that's more than half of the team that would start.
i still expect 70% tiki-taka and 30% pragmatism.
No one is saying spain will not play tiki taka but when you have these those three players in the team then they become too slow and the coach complained about it in their last friendly. You still have not answered me when i asked that what style of play did the same spainish team used during their first two friendly matches where the won 2-0 and 4-1 without any of these barca players?. It is nice having this discussion with you but you obviously are biased towards barca and the only way they can play full tiki taka is to include all the barca players in the first eleven. Anything short of that is for them to use the hybrid system and it is presently the norm because players like silva, mata and carzola deserve to be in the first eleven before fabregas and pedro. Xavi, pique and busquets are dispensable and the only person that should not be dropped is iniesta because he is totally different.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Vacancy For Paid Forum Moderator With Spam Management Focus by Bontee: 5:14am On Jun 08, 2012
Can see now that the management is waking up to his duties and hope it will not go the normal previous route of eventually giving it to a friend or someone they know. So is fighting spam not one of the duties of the present mods which we have right now or they are not paid as some of us have been thinking. Nairaland has gotten to a stage that you cannot go too forward anymore without shelling out the money, that was why nairalist failed because money was not spent and they did not seek for help.

I will advice for a different approach in fighting spam and the scope of duties should be expanded. There are other problems like insultivie posts, thread derailment, tribalism etc and i would advice to pick 3 - 5+ people to form a group and be responsible for that. They regular meet online, discuss, develop ideas and strategize how to go about their duties. The duties of all mods should include these duties as well but this people will act as supermods where their sphere of influence covers the entirely breadth of nairaland. Fighting spam on nairaland should not be limited to one person as you would need different ideas and strategies sourced from different people to do that.

Also nairaland should go the route of verified accounts in some sections, asking people who want to place adverts in some certain section to only send the ads to the mods for verification and posting else it will be outright ban for the offender. Let me stop here as all these might not be needed and let those interested in the job posts to see what the reply of seun should be. If you start banning people then there must be a way to force the guests to have an account and motivate everyone to make quality posts.

Take this thread https://www.nairaland.com/956441/top-5-priorities-before-selecting for example, it was a very good topic that was already developing into an intellectual discussion, you have your mods to further push the dimension of the discussion. Then at some point maybe on page two or three then the usual derailment begins and trusts me that's how it will go for a while, those derailers deserve to be warned or banned but nothing is going to happen to them.

Barca do not make up the major part of the spanish team anymore as only xavi, iniesta and maybe busquets might make the first eleven. So if a spanish team decides to field two barca players then what style of football will they now play and what will you say was their style in the first two matches before the last friendly match.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Seeks Senate Approval To Rename UNILAG And 2 Other Federal Universities. by Bontee: 4:52pm On Jun 06, 2012
Lagos — A Biblical saying that "sweet is the memory of the just" came to play on Monday when an honour was done post-humously to late Anthony Olufunso Williams seven months after his brutal murder. The popular Western Avenue in Lagos was renamed "Funsho Williams Avenue" by Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State.

Some Nigerians have reacted to this honour bestowed on this gentleman and strong politician in Lagos State, who many believed would have become the governor of the state come May 29, 2007. In cases like this, there are also mixed reactions. While few praised Tinubu for bestowing this post-humous honour to his once political opponent, few others felt it has political undertone and queried why the honour is just coming seven months after his dastard killing right inside his bedroom at his 184B, Corporation Avenue, Dolphin Estate.
Its the norm in Nigeria and i think it will pass eventually through the senate as who is going to travel to abuja to protest the name change.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Seeks Senate Approval To Rename UNILAG And 2 Other Federal Universities. by Bontee: 4:44pm On Jun 06, 2012
Beaf: You hit the nail on the head, bro.
That is just the way it is and i don't know why people are pretending like they are not aware of it, its a waste of time in the Nigerian setting to be debating how to change the name of a university that belongs to the government. Just do the consultation behind the scenes, announce the changes and if there is any opposition ( guess this is the first one in this new democracy ) then get the senate to approve it simple.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Seeks Senate Approval To Rename UNILAG And 2 Other Federal Universities. by Bontee: 4:37pm On Jun 06, 2012
otokx: The onus now rests with the senate to deny the request assuming all UNILAG alumni and undergraduates do their lobby well.
I don't think the senate would want to do that as it might lead to future disagreements with the executive, we all remember the cat and mouse game between obj and the senate during his time.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Seeks Senate Approval To Rename UNILAG And 2 Other Federal Universities. by Bontee: 4:34pm On Jun 06, 2012
What i get from this issue is just that, it has been the normal process ( not the right way though ) to rename a university, stadium, road or any federal or state public facility without the due process. The people usually do not oppose this change and neither does the state or federal assembly oppose it because they would have consulted themselves privately. They would not have opposed also if the ruling party controls the state where the name change will take effect but the opposition to unilag name change was not expected. It might be that the state is in opposition hands, politicians in southwest were contacted and not the school. So when the protest came out in the open then they just have to revert back to the right process and not the normal process described above. In order not to leave a bad taste they went back to update the other normal process for the other schools who already went ahead with the name change to the right process as with unilag.

Lessons learnt is that we will now be going through the right process but the norm earlier is to do it the Nigerian way.
FamilyRe: Which Do I Choose; Marriage Or Job? by Bontee: 4:06pm On Jun 06, 2012
There is no point being resentful in a relationship, it will affect it if you don't have a job quickly when you go to Abuja. It seems both of you did not discuss this before picking the date and it tells alot about the communication between both of you. Every human has a right to desire what they want in their life and it is important that both of you sit down to discuss this issue very well. My brother just got married three months ago, he lives in warri and the wife lives in ibadan where where she works and he works in warri.

They have been alternating weekend visits because that was what they agreed to before getting married and the final conclusion is for my brother to relocate to ibadan to work or do business out of a personal sacrifice for his marriage and the woman he loves. sacrifice and compromise can come from any partner and is not necessary from the woman. The most important thing is that both of you sat down to iron it out and provide a joint workable solution that satisfies both parties. One more thing is that please come and answer the questions concerning the age asked of you because i would say my brother is very matured and above 30.

P:S I don't see the reason for the incessant proclamation that only few good men exist and what about the woman?. What is the definition of a good man or woman and who in Nigeria is going to raise his or her hands that am not good.

Wives submit to your husband and husband love your wives, it is a fifty fifty arrangement and a very good formula to see the importance of joint decisions to any issues.

Kimmo: I don't know how true this is, but I do know that it's not impossible. Only difference is that it probably didn't happen exactly how it was posted here.

My neighbour once got stuck in the air, because the pilot wasn't given leave to land at MMIA. It was a flight from P/H. Reason: GEJ was in town for Bode George's welcome back carnival. They kept flying around for close to an hour, before they were allowed to land.

So for those who are insulting the people who believe this Patience Jona's story, you really, really don't know how things work in Nigeria.
I am sure you know the difference between normal landing and emergency landing?, They can stop your flights from landing due to the reason you stated above as it is normal and it can hover in the airspace for a while. Flights in distress situations are not subjected to such conditions as they would override any vip arrangement because they are about to make an emergency landing, Emergency landing is different from normal landing that can be delayed for vip arrangements.

coogar: that's the philosophy of their game.
short passing....xavi, busquets and alonso are not slow.
they don't even want to play long balls or counter-attacks...
spain wants to tear your defence apart with short passes, little
triangles using the tiki-taka. how many of their corners do they
hit long? is it because they are slow too?

you guys need to understand how spain wants to play.....
That's the philosophy championed by barca and for Spain i would say they are a great football passing team. They press their opponents instead of shadow marking but barca presses and passes more than the national team. Remove the Barcelona players and Spain will not play full tiki taka.

You should watch the three friendly match again and you will see for yourselves that the third match was different and the coach came out to say they were extremely slow in that game (The only time he complained about being slow in all the friendlies). How many la liga teams plays tiki taka?, they are either a football passing team or counter attacking team with the exception of barcelona that plays tiki taka. Real madrid, A-madrid, valencia and sevilla plays counter attacking football while the others pass the ball around intelligently.

@^^ Bros, please do not blame the British grin. It may appear that the Francophone countries are less corrupt but truthfully corruption is what every African country have in common whatever language we may speak. The difference between the Francophone countries is that they are relatively poorer excepting Gabon and the two Congos. Besides, their populations are relatively smaller too. Corruption happens a lot where there is something to steal in the first place grin hence DRC Congo was the champion under Mobutu,Ivory Coast, Gabon and Central Africa. Britain is not known for blatant corruption as the USA and France so that theory is out place/wrong. Nobody taught Ibori how to steal. He is just greedy and wicked. We cannot afford to blame others for our shortcomings. Again as usual "burying our heads in the sand".
We can substitute Britain by saying English speaking colonized countries are more corrupt than their french counterpart but i really flow with your explanation grin. Yet i would want you to be clear about our corruption syndrome, so it is out of greed and wickedness according to you?. If so how do we solve it or don't you think that this democracy and capitalism is the cause of our problem. I don't think people would be very corrupt like this if we still go by our traditional ways of doing things. Let me ask one question, what was the level of corruption within us before the Europeans came to colonize us?.
HealthRe: Quack Indian Doctors Allegedly Exploiting Nigeria In Abuja by Bontee(op): 9:55pm On Jun 05, 2012
nagoma: Nigeria is world wide known for corruption and both national and international crimes. I wonder how Nigeria can be explained according to your " national religious belief theory".
Hmm Nigeria does not practice the same religion with India and Pakistan but Christianity and Islam which can be traced to the middle east and then Britain. One theory which i heard about is that every English speaking country colonized by Britain is extremely corrupt more than the french speaking colonized countries. So how corruptible tendencies is usually mirrored to Britain and another which i heard of during a Nigerian debate to fix Nigeria is this.

They said that we inherited a way of life, system or rules to govern ourselves that is alien to our established culture and with time as it was not properly managed it tilted towards corruption. A society has to grow with is system over hundreds of years but we have changed our system to this bloody democracy/capitalism and hence all these corruption issues. The only solution they prescribed is to either practice it like the original people do it or revert to your indigenous trusted system to fight corruption. India for example is complaining bitterly about their over-bloated government and slow pace in taking decisions unlike china.

India's and Nigeria will always cut corners anywhere they go if given the opportunity to do so and our level of corruption is small compared to others but we just make too much noise, greed and over do things.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Euro 2012 All-Action Thread by Bontee: 9:34pm On Jun 05, 2012
The problem with spain centers around these three players xavi, busquets and xabi alonso. They are slow and when you have three of them in the starting eleven, spain becomes too slow and struggles to win matches most times. That was so evident in their last friendly match and they did not have such problems in the previous two matches before that. Spain will suffer also in stretching the play on the right as arbeloa is not so good going forward like ramos or other spanish defenders but he is solid defensively.

Spain need to stop using two defensive midfielders if they want to retain the cup or increase the tempo of their game and those three mentioned players should not be in the starting eleven at the same time.

FDI in Airline Industry

A Discussion Paper:

This discussion paper is extracted from 'A Note on FDI in Airlines' prepared by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

The Airline Industry

The airline industry has remained an exception globally, to the process of economic liberalization. Globally, the airline industry remains subject to several restrictions – in terms of both operations and of ownership & control. All countries impose restrictions in this one sector; restrictions that benefit national entities; and debar foreign.

International practice

A majority of the countries - both in the developed and the developing world - have imposed a 49% ownership limit in the airline industry. This is true for Singapore, China and a host of other nations across Asia and Europe.

The US, otherwise a free economy, is even more restrictive in the Airline sector. US limits the amount of foreign ownership in its domestic airlines to a maximum of 25%. The US Congress has repeatedly opposed any changes in the current legislation that restricts foreign ownership of US airlines – thereby not allowing the foreign ownership of voting stock in US airlines to go up from 25 to 49 percent. In the past few months, the US Congress and Department of Transportation have thwarted attempts to allow greater foreign ownership of US carriers, and turned down Richard Branson’s initiative to create a foreign-owned US-based low cost airline.

Canada too has stayed with a 25% foreign ownership limit in Canadian airlines. Again, the Canadian Transport Ministry has rejected calls for any increase, saying that an increase would not benefit Canadian carriers.

Most other countries have similar protective provisions limiting ownership of their airlines. India imposes a 49% ownership limit in the airline industry.
shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked
Australia is perhaps the only notable exception. The Australian government allowed Richard Branson to start up an airline called Virgin Blue. In return for this permission however, Sir Richard had to agree that the airline would be incorporated in Australia under Australian law, and that it would be staffed and managed by Australians, and have an Australian board of directors.

IATA stand

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which is the apex body globally for the airline industry, too recognizes that most countries have traditionally imposed limits on foreign ownership and control of airlines. While continuing to work towards increased liberalization in the airline industry, IATA believes that foreign ownership limits in the airlines is a choice of each sovereign nation; and needs to be decided by the individual state.

Restrictions even beyond FDI

Going beyond foreign ownership limits, even bilateral air service agreements contain restrictions on the number of airlines and frequency of services on many international routes. Open-skies bilateral agreements also do not remove nationality rules.

Sovereignty and national-interest are usually the reasons that most countries do not allow fair free open-market competition in their respective airline industries.

While FDI benefits industry sectors...

Given the experience in numerous other sectors of the economy – like manufacturing, telecom, banking among others – foreign investment is generally desirable and leads to efficiency and scale gains. FDI brings in competition, lowers prices and accords choice to consumers. All round liberalization in foreign investment rules also allows domestic companies to diversify and explore investment opportunities in other markets.

The airline industry in India is passing through its most competitive phase to date, where both the legacy and the newly entered low-cost carriers alike are engaged in fierce competition; and are adding capacity, adding routes, adding features & products and dropping prices. The aggressive route expansion plans of the Indian carriers have already resulted in excess supply over a deficient infrastructure – leading to congestion on the ground; and congestion in the skies.

A further FDI allowance in airlines in India would only impact adversely, the financial health and future of India’s own homegrown carriers; and also the civil aviation sector.

...Airline industry is an exception to free FDI, globally

Foreign investment in airlines should however not be a one-way street where a country offers access and makes foreign ownership allowance, without reciprocity from others. While Open skies is a desirable long-term outcome, it cannot be achieved by a single nation alone.

Airlines are an important part of the national economy and it is important that in making allowances and concessions to international players, the health of the Indian carriers be also kept firmly in sight.

It is important that India should seek reciprocal opening of Airline industry in other countries, before allowing open access of its market to foreign carriers.

India also currently does not allow direct or indirect equity participation by foreign airlines in Indian carriers. In an environment where restrictive foreign ownership in the Airline industry is the norm, this protects the foreign carriers from both targeting Indian carriers for acquisition; and also using bilateral air service rights to their advantage.

Aviation is more than just Airlines

The key challenge for India's civil aviation sector is not 'more airlines', but more infrastructure. India allows 100% FDI in greenfield airports and this is a good example of both proactive government policy and also a deep focus on 'national priorities'. Additional airlines and foreign owned carriers will certainly mean more aircraft & more congestion.
Foreign participation in India's civil aviation sector could be leveraged in areas where both the need and the opportunity, is greater. The government could consider opening up foreign investment in non-scheduled operations, charter flights, ground handling, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MROs) and other non core-airline functions of the aviation sector.
There is a need for building the avionics and aviation equipment capabilities of Indian industry. The government could provide special incentives allowing global majors and Indian industry to invest in avionics and equipment.
Given the acknowledged competence and expertise of skilled Indian manpower, which has brought global recognition (e.g. in the IT sector), aviation provides India an opportunity to build capacities and capabilities in Aviation; and to invest not only in pilot & ATC training but also growing the pool of technical & maintenance expertise in Aviation. There could be special incentives and FDI allowances for education and training in the Aviation sector. This would help not only in manning critical functions within the country, but also for creating employment opportunities for Indian personnel in global aviation markets.
