El Rufai is an excellent administrator but a terrible politician. He should do better. He did more than Buhari to turn folks against APC, not just in kaduna but all over the country. If he's thinking of VP and possibly president, then he needs to improve in inter faith and inter ethnic relations

El rufai likes to believe he's some enfant terrible in Nigeria. His choosing a muslim as his deputy was just grandstanding and a hollow statement.

With or without a muslim deputy he's bound to win, so what was the point of inflaming passions for a mere political rhetoric that has no intrinsic value?

kaduna needs tact and wisdom, not a circus clown who feels he's duty-bound to make political statements to appease one side and deflate another.

One upon a time Kaduna was the political center of Nigeria, rich in political capital. Then the game of sentiments came on and reduced us to a Plateau or Taraba. That sheen and aura is long gone....and the atmosphere is one heavily pregnant with uncertainty and tension.

People like Suleiman and a whole host of such pastors are showboaters and opportunists. They use the climate to drum their agenda into the followers and keep them in a perpetual state of fear, uncertainty and doubt such that they'll have power over them by using prayers as a means of succor and relief. These Pentecostal churches are really harping on the divide to fan the flames of hate.

Apologies to anyone offended by the above, but it's my impression of what they do.

Some churches like Deeper Life seem truly about salvation and less about politics. At least that's how it seems to me.

However, we too have imams who whip up sentiments all day in mosques, and sow the seed of intolerance in their followers.

If we insist on hating, shouldn't we get together and collectively hate Buddhists and Hindus, whose religion is nothing like the Abrahamaic religion?

This is the kind of confusion where christians think they've more in common with Judaism, who don't believe in Jesus, than Muslims, who do but with the caveat that he's a revered messenger of God of the immaculate conception.

Look, there's very little empirical, scientific, and hard evidence that either god exists, so we might just be wasting our time, who knows? But if we chose to believe in something, it is our right and we shouldn't be hated for it.

I dont like the sentiments of Southern kaduna christians, i dont like the way igbos are insulting us, i don't like the way the yorubas are so condescending to our intelligence by seeing us as a giant writhing mass of illiteracy and decrepitude....but i certainly dont hate their faith.

The point is, we all hate each other, and until we confront that hatred and stop spreading it, we're all doomed to fail.

We shouldn't choose leaders to spite our perceived enemies, we should choose leaders to better our lot.

I had no problem when Yakowa was governor. No one tried to stop me from being a muslim, or conducting my legitimate business.

We should not fall into the bottomless trap of cutting our noses to spite our face.

If the christians of southern Kaduna chose to play the politics of sentiments, it doesn't mean we have to go that route. The PDP contestant is a muslim, but he was demonized and dehumanized as the candidate of CAN. And truth be told, just as pastors were commanding their followers to vote PDP as a religious duty, imams were admonishing muslims to vote APC as a sort of micro jihad.

The idea is to discard elections of religious sentiments -- a tall order, I know -- for the good of all.

It doesnt help if as a muslim I'm afraid of driving past Kachia and Kajuru, and a christian is afraid of going to Rigasa to board a train.

Who wins in that scenario?

I think it's not ever going to be easy to pin the blames. Both sides play politics of religion, and they'll always do.

I'm a fulani muslim, but even I have misgivings with the choices of El Rufai. Now, I know a great deal of southern kaduna christians hate muslims mostly because the hate is mutual and largely because of a feeling of isolation. But a leader is supposed to rise above such petty sentiments and be a leader to all. No one in the history of kaduna has shown such blatant prejudice to faith than El Rufai.

It's his right to pick his vice, but politics is all about compromise; what's the harm if his deputy was a christian to appease the SOKAPU people so they feel some sense of belonging? How would that diminish his capacity to lead, given deputies are always just necessary baggage who really do nothing?

Also Rufai's utterances are quite unbecoming. The man has no business being in politics given his proclivity for saying things that worsen situations. No one in kaduna, muslim or christian, is happy with crises, because in conflagrations all lose.

Of course, the christian community is also not helping, given the pronouncements of some of their pastors recently. They say provocative things and make enemies of every single muslim, thereby exacerbating the divide.

Every single institution that ordinarily should imbue sanity in the society has failed: the politicians, the clergy, the legislature, the judiciary, the academics, parents, the youths..everyone has failed....

so who do you really blame?

Atiku is not a founder of APC. He joined APC in its infancy and after the merger was already completed.

He was moving away from PDP after Jonathan declared interest and won primary for a second term. Atiku was going to form PDM with rebels like Saraki, Amechi, Tambuwal and so on.... APC had not had its primary. Atiku figured if he joined APC he stood a better chance than Buhari to secure the APC flag, and so he abandoned formation of PDM and.joined APC with his rebel team.

At APC primary Tinubu backed Buhari, instead of a defecting Atiku.

So stop giving false information that Atiku was a founder of APC, no he was not.

He was a major figure in the Action Congress where he vied for president, and lost. The AC formed part of the formative backbones of the current APC.
