Endy10: I kinda felt the same way, but...
Prophesies are tricky things. They don't always happen the way we expect it to. Yeah Jon had a big role to play in the Night King's death, but I think he already played that role.
He lead the widlings the other side of the wall. He united the north after Rob. He convinced Dany to fight the dead. If he hadn't done all those things, I don't think the living would have had a chance. He played his part.
He doesn't have to plunge his sword into someone's heart to play his part.
My own thinking sha... according to the sword of truth series, prophecies aren't meant to be taken literally or misinterpretations will be engendered and the balance and counter to prophecy is free will! If you hear prophecy and act to fulfill it you would most likely fail it, only in free will can prophecy be fulfilled in its true meaning not in the misinterpreted understanding of it of different people in different contexts, anyway this is a different series but I would like to believe same framework exists in this series too |

Ksslib: No. I don't think most people have a problem with Arya killing Ojuju calaba -- not me certainly.
I think the problem is that it was too simplistic & unexpected, for a character we've all been anticipating since Season 1. I mean, the first scene , as in the very first scene of GOT was about the Night King/white walkers. So it's only normal for people to feel disappointed if a long-term emotional investment doesn't pay off at the end.
The disappoinment is normal. Disappoinment also means you admit something is good. Afterall I can never be disappointed by Nollywood.
If even GRRM himself can be disappointed with these people he works with, how much more the viewers? It is said that GRRM is yet to recover from the disappoinment of the producers refusing to reincarnate Catelyn Stark as Lady Stone-heart ---- a cold-hearted woman who never spoke cos her throat was slit in her past life, determined to track down and kill everyone associated with the Red wedding. I haven't read the books yet though but heard she reincarnated there.
As for we viewers, we were expecting an epic finale kind of.
Maybe a catastrophic mixture of Jon, Brienne, Tormund, Berric, Grey-worm, Clegane & Arya all fighting the Night King at once. That would have been glorious!!!
Then just when the Night King thinks he's defeated them all, Arya from nowhere descends on him like a falcon and kills him just how she did it.
Yea something like that. the night king's death was anything but simple, most terrible of villains tend to die by simple things they didn't give thought to OR viewed as significant, Voldemort died from the cascade effect from the powerful magic in self sacrifice engendered by love, sauron's downfall came from the machinations of a middle earth third age council whose weapon was a mere hobbit the assumedly most insignificant of creatures, the night king's death came from a sleight of hand by a foe whose surprise attack he had already stopped. That was the only possible way for him to have been bested IMO, only the simplest of deaths could have done for him, remember, the best magic most times is simply a well executed trick. ( can't remember which wizard rule that is anymore ) |

Magnifico2000: I mean why didn't any character say anything about the dead resurrecting in the crypt during their planning? OR was that scene done to surprise viewers? None of them thought about that. If you noticed, they told everyone to hide there as that is the best and safest place to be. Furthermore there is this belief that the crypt has some magic and maybe the dead may not be able to enter. Most of the viewers expected the dead to rise up in the crypt. maybe they didn't expect the night king to get a chance to raise the dead |

meforkene: Love the show. Big respect to the directors and everybody.
But make i find trouble small...i love Arya o right from time and forever...happy she killed the NK. My issue is, so the NK can just die like that via Valyrian steel only no alloys (mixture) of Valyrian steel, Dragonglass and other charms. Afterall the Children of the Forest made him with Dragon glass not Valyrian steel.
So Jon could of killed him that time he was chasing him by throwing/aiming his Long Claw at him and he would have died juslaidat?
Moving forward, i swear i thought i'll trumpet of Cersei's army attacking Winterfell immediately the NK died. valyrian steel is rumored to be an alloy of steel and dragonglass spellforged in dragon fire Also if Jon threw long claw at the night king and missed or if it didn't miss and we found out the night king was unhurt by it you would have been the first to criticize his supposed foolishness for trying to kill a being whom dragon fire didn't hurt from that distance and leaving himself unarmed and vulnerable! With all the newly dead littering everywhere, common sense should have told us all that at some point the night king was going to tap into that resource, that he did it while Jon was charging at him just goes to show he was an astute general |

invigilator: Is it just me or there's someone else here that thinks the Night King was killed by Arya alone, I mean the Arya we know... Not as a many faced god but just Arya Stark killing the Night King. Is it much more impossible of a task? Considering what she has been through ever since watching her father beheaded.. If truly she had switched face, someone here mentioned that the WW that turned after Therion was killed is Arya, but in the follow up scenes where the night king was killed, the same WW that turned was showned to have exploded along with others.
Lets say that was a hint for us to know something is coming, the same way the NK turned when Jon was trailing him, that's exactly the same way the WW turned, only for us to see Arya mid air towards the NK.
It's also worthy to note that there's no tree or other elevated height close to where Bran sat except the tree, and from camera view. It's very obvious that Arya didn't jump down from d tree(so that's a twist we have got to battle on)
If truly Arya "turned" to be able to kill the Night King, then the producers would have at least pictured her having a blue eyes before driving the dagger thro' NK..
If you're a lover of good TVseries, you would understand how the suspense works, funny enough GOT won't do a back scene for us to know how it really happened(unlike other series). But with all these prophecies gradually comin' to past, One can only imagine how the end of this series will be. since you like dissecting theories, here's mine, she was buried in snow close to bran |

Ksslib: When I saw a dazzled Johnny boy walking towards the Night King in rage & fury I said to myself, this is it!!! The moment humanity has been waiting for! The moment humanity was created for! Only for the nigga to wangardium leviosa some corpses back to life as a shield!! Goddamnnn you NK!! You can never be half the man Thanos is. Or my great-grandfather who legend has it defeated five wild bush pigs with nothing but a dry, withering stick of sugarcane.
Strategy we might say: filter out distractions (Jon) & focus on what's important (Bran)....... but Night King wey no like fight sef..... is that one a Night King? So you just wear custom-made Louis vuitton jacket, yeezy pants, Zara boots then rub dustin powder for face all for nothing? Tueh!!
Something tells me though, that this NK story is not FULLY over. There's still one more brief but big reveal coming. A shocking-interesting one, hopefully. Except I'm just being mad!!
Also, I think the NK is of Targaryen descent.
I also found it interesting that the blue-flame spitting viseron looked mellow all of a sudden & delayed his wrath when Johnny boy squared up to him face-face. Hmmn!!
Best scenes:
How Mellisandre illuminated the Dothraki's confidence with fire and they charged towards the NK, but his wights quenched both the dothrakis & Lord of light in an instant like " <<pufff... pufff... abeg our oga no dey like smoke".
Ser Jorah defending his Khalessi to the very last. Maybe Love is all about what you can give, not what you can receive. I was expecting a touching dialogue here or something. Even in his death, Khalessi couldn't give that man even if na small kiss or peck, haba!!! For this, you'll never sit on that Iron throne!!
Lady Mormont levelling that giant to the ground. My second best scene hands down. Brave little thing.
Theon!! Theon!! Theon!! My best scene hands down. The moddafuckin bravest. In an episode where even men who had balls shrunk, a man with no balls had the balls. *Continues clapping*
Worst scenes: The uselessness of Tyrion throughout. Not even one single contribution. So the discussion he had with Bran was entirely useless? Kept saying maybe if he goes out he'll see what everyone is missing but never did. For a short man, Tyrion is beginning to look like the height of deceit. Thank you producers & writers.
The uselessness of Bran. He contributed nothing for someone we all thought had a big role to play. He warged into those birds to do what exactly? In search of food? He warged into three black Ravens -- confirming he's the three eyed raven.... Ok... Ehen.. ehen?
The uselessness of Jon. It's shocking that Jon, who at a time was the pivotal aspect of this show, has become this.. thissssssss *spits** . This was the greatest Battle of humanity, bigger than whatever foolish battle they have with Cersei, yet Jon had no part to play in it. He was just all over the place. When he quipped during the season premiere that riding a dragon has spoilt horses for him, I didn't know he was referring part of his sense that will spoil eventually. Thank you producers & writers.
The uselessness of the Night King. This one is the most useless of them all. This horn-headed, blue-eyed, dustin- powder rubbing ojuju calaba ended up so useless that his uselessness fried something in my brain, because for the first time in my life, I wished for the ressurection of an evil villian just so he could wake up and die again BUT with sense.
For seven seasons, 7 freaking seasons, this ojuju calaba made me believe he was the ish!! So much so that Johnny Walker had to create a special brand of alcohol called "Johnny Walker the white Walker" only for him to die like a native fowl...
I might be prosecuted for this.... BUT the Night King should have killed Arya in the process too. It would have reduced this anti-climax feel & given his useless war a meaning.
Except of course, like the little suspicion I habor, this Night king story isn't over yet. i totally disagree with the content in your analysis but men do i love your writing! It reminds me of when i wasn't intellectually lazy |

That way his origins and weaknesses would never be known |

For all deir lack of fear..The unsullied were visibly shaking...infact at a point one tucked tail n ran!.. firstly, the dothoraki never fought against the dead, an enemy without fear or care before then, their mistake was in charging against an enemy they couldn't see in the dark, so their being anihilated in that context is understandable, the unsullied proved in that battle to be the best professional army known in the world of G.O.T, they never ran, didn't break ranks, didn't stop fighting even when the drawbridge over the dry moat was raised with them on the other side by greyworm condemning them to death so in an unnaturally cold weather brought on by the night king if they shiver then that only makes them human in lieu of their superhuman fearlessness |

Magnifico2000: That's not true. Go and read about dragon dance where dragons were killing eachother in dragonpit. in the dragonpit they fought against a great mob of men who came to kill them while they were chained not against their selves so which book are you talking about again? Isomerizm: Over the seasons, she has shown a knack for fighting, and an exceptional one at that. This is owing to her aptitude for combat, and the training she has received.
She can transform to whomever, if she can access their dead face. Still owing to the training she received under Jaqen.
Another quality of hers is her sentiency.
The remarkable things she has done have been understandable, so far. Because we know how she did them.
But sneaking up on the night king? Without him or any of his adjutants sensing? That's something else.
Then killing an eight-year old fatal threat took only an episode? They made us wait eight years for this same winter? Voldemort and Sauron posed greater difficulties.
And, how comes, no one foresaw the likelihood of the buried guys in the crypt, been resurrected by the night king? we are not privy to GRR Martin's mind or that of the directors, so it is not for us to ascribe what is or isn't in the realm of possibilities or impossibilities concerning this show, for example, I believed the crypts of winterfell were warded and their dead vengeful spirits could never rise but the directors have turned that belief of mine to crap and I realized my belief was shaped exclusively by too many fan theories, my guess is that your expectations were similarly influenced, the directors see this theories too and always go out of their way to disprove those theories and they should be congratulated because one of the major attractions of epic shows like this is unpredictability even though a rough template for the story is largely available |

Eberex: First and foremost, in the strategy room they all agreed that Theon would protect Bran. John snow had his own battle besides his own mission was to kill the Night king before he gets to Bran, and you are here saying he did nothing? Night king would have engaged him to one on one before you know he did something arya was simply the enemy the night king didn't factor into his strategy, like the rest of us he probably was expecting the threat to his life to come from Jon or Danny, for fvcks sake, this is a show in which the greatest swordsman/fighter ever ser Arthur dayne was felled by a stab from the back that he wasn't expecting, the unbeaten khal drogo was killed not in combat but the resultant poisoning that came from sepsis in a small wound received in an insignificant fray, a very stout lord commander of the night's watch beor mormont was killed by his own men, his successor Jon snow betrayed and stabbed the killing blow by his own steward, rob stark and the north betrayed and massacred at the red wedding after receiving guest's rights, the untouchable tywin lannister shot multiple quarrels in the gut while sitting on a privy the show has gone out of it's way over the years to show us that nobody is invincible and death will come for the most secure in unexpected ways at unexpected times and people are still whinging about why the night kings death came from a surprise attack and why it wasn't drawn out? These guys really need pen and paper to write their own series |

Eberex: To your bolded "The crypt is an enclosure", you cannot compare the crypt to an open field, can you? How she gets there before him is not our business, but it is something she is capable of doing.
As for the Night king's death, i think it would look like Thanos death in the early part of Endgame when Thor cut off his head. Will the Night king have any further role to play, i don't know? Can he clog into Bran after he was stabbed by Arya? I don't know. But i think ther movie is trying to let us know the war is not only centered at the night king. The real war is with Cersei. The Night king might have been just another enemy waiting to get killed. that wasn't the crypts, it was the library |

Yonce: Jon was utterly useless as a Leader and a General. Like is this the Prince that was Promise??
He deserves 5% He couldn't successfully sneak up on The Night King like Arya did. Dany took the initiative in roasting wights. He wanted to wait. He lost his fight with an Ice dragon without a rider. He couldn't make his way to Bran.
Can't believe he's the prince that was promise. How anticlimactic you sound like a broken hearted girl! Danny roasting wights wasn't the plan, Danny broke the plan so he had to follow up, being a battle commander demands that you grow a heart of stone and focus on the objective! Jon couldn't do that before at the battle of the bastards, he learnt his lesson and tried to be an actual battle commander this time, it would have been foolish to let Danny and dragon ride out alone when a two against one battle was the only feasible way of defeating the night king on viserion. He couldn't sneak up on the night king like arya? Seriously is that even an argument point? You would now want to tell us that unlike Jon, you knew dragon fire wouldn't kill the night king right? He went for the night king, Danny and dragon got to him first, he like the rest of us expected that to be enough, when it wasn't, he ran towards him only for the dead to be raised against him so what could he possibly have done differently? And strictly speaking, arya didn't successfully sneak up on the night king Also when dragons lock up on each other during a fight, their riders contribute very little to that fight except directing them to disengage or flee, Jon was committed to stopping for good the threat that was viserion, a fight he shouldn't have had to fight alone if Danny could have acted like a good battle commander and stuck to the plan. And with a dragon wight breathing blue flame on everything and anything in the path towards the godswood, you expected Jon to grow wings and vault over him into the godswood right? |
