cjrane: Stop asking rhetorical questions. As if you don't know that whenever big genocide is committed by Nigerian army, Buhari is always mysteriously away from Nigeria. Typically it happens on the first day of his arrival in the foreign country.
Buhari is using the Omar al-Bashir method of using supporter of APC to kill in darfur each time he is purportedly outside the country. It didn't stop his indictment for the crimes though. i don't know and that's why i ask |

That he genuinely fell for her was just a bonus and proved she indeed was the right match for him. we are basically saying the same thing and you should try the happy smiley more often whenever the topic is rhaegar, I think he was more handsome than that brief clip showed him to be |

Gbola5: Well I guess if he was a hopeless romantic then that will explain why he did what he did. If even though what he did was stupid.
Once you know what a character is all about, then you can understand why he does what he does, according to different accounts, he only embraced the martial part of his princely duties much later after he thought that he was the prince that was promised and he needs must know how to fight, left to his own inclinations, he was always bookish and musical, so yes, he was a classical romantic |
TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by BraniacX(m): 10:10pm On Sep 02, 2017 |
Gbola5: Ok I accept your analogy, about annulment and all. What just seems so stupid is that he annulled his marriage to Elia when it wasn't necessary. He pissed on Dorne, and then used their armies against Robert on the Trident. Only an idiot prince would do all that. the annulment and remarriage was secret, so it stands to reason that dorne didn't know about it, I doubt even ellia knew plus Aery's the mad king was holding ellia and her kids hostage as a guarantee for dorne's fealty |
TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by BraniacX(m): 9:57pm On Sep 02, 2017 |
Gbola5: Why did his third head need legitimization ? Why couldn't he be married to Elia for duty, and Lyanna for love, like Aegon (the Conqueror did with Visenya and Rhaenys), afterall he admired Aegon so much he named his son after him. that, was his prerogative, like i said earlier, methinks he was a true romantic, that he fell in love with the girl he believed prophesy destined him to be with and her with him against the backdrop of opposition to their union from every other single quarters made him do non strategic things like annulling his marriage to ellia when he could have kept her as his wife too. Well, love is dearth of duty and never necessarily requires reason. My opinion |

kay9: Aegon by Elia Martell remains legitimate, QED.
So what was the point of the whole annulment? Targaryens have an established history of polygamy, so he could've just straight-up married Lyanna. Really, the show's visuals are still cool and all but the storyline just gets shittier the farther away from the last book. Of course, it still won't stop me from rushing to download if a secret episode 8 suddenly airs tomorrow. I think rhaegar was a monogamist and a romantic, he married ellia for duty but actually fell in love with lyanna, that he would have married lyanna anyway to legitimize the third head of his dragon love or lack of it irrespective in the name of duty and prophesy got sweetened by the fact that he actually fell in love with her and went out of his way to honor her by annulling his marriage to ellia. My opinion though Cc: Yonce |

kay9: I personally dislike unfounded assumptions.
GRRM drew inspiration from Victorian England for the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms. There's no precedence of a divorce in both books and the show, so perhaps that's where answers concerning the status of noble offspring(s) of a divorcee should be sought from. So... research on victorian england, anyone? when king Henry VIII of house Tudor of England had his marriage to is it queen Catherine of Spain? annulled, their daughter princess Mary still remained his legitimate daughter and second in line to the throne after young prince edward as at the time of his death and she even went on to become queen after the untimely death of her younger brother, so this is an example of an annulment from middle age pre-victorian England, so using that as a template, would you say someone as obsessed with prophesy as rhaegar would disinherit his first son aegon just to bequeath a "potential" yet unborn second son the throne? Cc: Gbola5 |

NerdSciBot: Even Cersie knew she stood no chance against the dead army. If Dany and her crew couldn't defeat that army, adding hers would've made no difference and she knew this. She gambled well; join Dany and lose both ways if they eventually conquer the NK or don't and stand a chance to defeat Dany if she eventually defeats the NK. They got this plot quite well but it exposes other plot holes. in defense of Danny flying north to rescue Jon and Jon proclaiming his fealty to her at the parley in public, not everybody is tywin lannister or stannis baratheon, not everybody makes decisions based on tactical considerations, the humanity of their actions and inactions vis-à-vis love, hate and what not is what gives life to each character and credibility to the story, so, no plot holes here |
TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by BraniacX(m): 3:05am On Sep 02, 2017 |
NerdSciBot: At the point of coming up with that plan, Cersie was disadvantaged. She'd lost a good number of her men. So the idea of an alliance to fight the undead army was just lame. It would make no difference whatsoever. Dany and Jon had the unsullied, the dothraki, the northmen, the wildlings and three dragons. Cersie had nothing! but a few lannister men. and when all the aforementioned march north, they leave the seven kingdoms open to cersei's rape when even a victory against the nightwalkers isn't even guaranteed and even if they are victorious, it will be phyricc and they would lack the strength in numbers to face cersei unless Danny decides to Burn-em-all like her father which will destroy the image of a breaker of chains, wheels and what not she's trying to create for herself. Remember what the maesters at the citadel said when Sam told them to write to all lords advising them that the nightwalkers are real and that they should send their armies north? About how that would open the realm to be Danny's conquest unopposed? And tyrion telling Jon that even if the nightwalkers were real, telling Danny to march north will leave the realm open to cersei's invasion so from whose perspective are you calling the mission to capture a wight a weak plot hole? Oh from the perspective of a fan with hindsight! And remember Danny never actually believed "believed" Jon until she saw the nightking and the nightwalkers for herself and lost a dragon in the process! She was like " bend the knee and i will fight for you" and after seeing "I had to see to believe,.............I will fight with you" so stop seeing plot holes where there are none . . P.S tyrion, like every other rational westerosi was expecting cersei to see the bigger picture after realizing the nightmare stories were real, and oh, he was expecting her to attempt to murder them if she had the chance that is, before they could present their case not his fault that cersei could not get over the woodwitch's foretelling of a younger, more beautiful queen taking her throne from her and scoring a 3/3 as against the current 2/3 |
TV/Movies › Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by BraniacX(m): 2:46am On Sep 02, 2017 |
NerdSciBot: Duh, I said scout not fight. The plot was just about needless back and forth journeys with no positive outcome hence, my stance that it was a forced and uncreative idea by the writers to bring Jon and Dany closer and create a white dragon. This definitely wasn't the same GoT I knew of seasons 1-3. and how would a successful scouting mission by her have convinced cersei? You talk with the confidence of hindsight not foresight I'll give you a challenge ahead of season 8, give some decisions by major characters you'll definitely not be advising them to make based on the inevitable negative consequences it would lead to, case in point, after the revelation of Jon's true identity, what should be his reaction? And what should Danny's be? Tell us before any leaks or before it is aired! |

Gbola5: That scene was Rhaegar and Elia naming the newborn Aegon. But the OP says the name of the prince that was promised should be Aegon. When Aegon is only a name Rhaegar chooses to name his son due to the name's legacy. My post asks for evidence of where it was written that TPTWP should be named Aegon. Take note. He mentions "There must be one more", which is why he eloped with Lyanna. how can we be certain that it was ellia and not lyanna? The P.O.V was danny and at that time, even now, she wouldn't be able to tell ellia from lyanna, both were rhaegar's wife at a time, both were looking frail and wispy from a hard childbirth or was the color of the boys hair and eyes stated perchance? |
