There is no evidence of Wagner Group mercenaries being deployed in Niger. Despite this, several media outlets and social media users falsely claimed that Wagner forces were supposedly deployed to Niamey, through a misidentified video of a Russian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76 landing in what they claimed to be in Niamey International Airport. However, fact-checkers from the BBC later identified this video as footage from 2006 recorded in Khartoum, Sudan.

Other videos posted on social media wrongly presented old footages of Wagner fighters in Africa as the first visual confirmation of their presence in Niger. An old photograph of Wagner fighters in Ukraine was also shared alongside claims that the group was planning to send its fighters to Niger.

We cannot defeat Boko Haram because there are elements in the Nigerian Army ( usually their own brethren) who are sabotaging the efforts of the Nigerian army as a whole. Hausa soldiers will not be happy gunning down mostly Hausa soldiers, especially because these Nigerien soldiers are not terrorists.

Like Boko Haram there will be military sabotage again and many Nigerian soldiers will die.
