danieldg: Hello Guys
Good morning
(My First post here)
I would be coming next month to begin my masters program and I have a few questions I would like you all to help me with.
1. My school is in Wales (USW) and I know virtually no one there, is there some sort of forum where I can meet people there?
2. Accomodation-wise, is it advisable for me to pay for my accomodation(private, not school) while still here in Nigeria or should I instead arrive in the UK first, lodge and take time to go round and get one suitable?
3. Asides being a construction engineer, I have a personal side business I do, I'm an artist...I make portrait and realistic drawings based on orders for people who want to surprise people and people who want it shaa. Would I be able to carry this on successfully in the UK without facing any danger? as I've heard that students are not entitled to have a private business while on a study visa.
Thanks as you all respond, I hope to get a feedback from you all. Congrats on securing your visa! Just like you, many of us came here without knowing anyone and have had to build up our contacts over time. I know Cardiff Uni where I graduated from has several groups on Facebook like Cardiff Uni Overhead. Search for similar groups for your Uni. I wouldn't advise you to pay for accommodation before coming down here. I'm in Cardiff where USW main campus is located. I know for a fact that most letting agents are not very transparent and the pictures online might slightly differ from the reality on ground. Also, you should be aware that some letting agents are a pain in the ass to deal with. Danger in terms of exceeding your 20hours limit? I don't know how that's possible because, from my point of view, only you can decide or report how long it took you to make a painting. If you report your earnings as self-employed, be sure not to exceed over 20hours/weekly. All the best |

Hi guys
I have a friend with correct names on all her documents except her WAEC result. On her WAEC result, her first name is written as "Tolu" instead of "Tolulope".
Can she do an affidavit to back this up as WAEC can not change the name on her certificate?
Thanks |

TRAY2: I remember when i posted here about buying my first mortgage just within 19 months of stay in UK, many folks were babbling, but look at what is happening now, with the new mortgage rules either you have ILR or 25% deposit, and house prices and interest rates are going up and up, even renting now is a nightmare. And someone will tell you not to rush, house prices will crash and interest rates will come down, bla bla bla, we are still waiting. I have always learnt to always go with my first gut no matter what anyone says, and it has helped me so far. Do you really now need ILR or 25% to get a mortgage? If so, then that's sad. |

I'm with everyone supporting the Uk government's decision on this. I watched a recent interview of hers where she mentioned that she saw beheaded human beings on the road and she wasn't fazed. For me, I think despite everything, she's still not remorseful and it'll be a great threat to everyone if she's allowed into the Uk.
The stance of every government must be clear and firm on terrorism! Trust me, if it was a different offence, some other countries in the EU would have been willing to grant her asylum.
She wasn't banished while she was in the UK! She left on her own will to go explore the glorious ISIS lifestyle and she should face the consequences of her actions. |

Sorry if this post derails from the purposes of this thread. Anyone got better ideas of how to transfer money to Nigeria? I tried using Azimo to transfer into my USD domiciliary account(GTBank) as that is the only option available on their platform and for over 24hours now, the transaction is yet to reflect in my account despite Azimo claiming the transfer has been completed. Really frustrating tbh!!! |

Hi guys, does it makes sense for your Uni in Uk to provide unsigned and unstamped letter although with letter heading as proof of qualification for Tier 2 application?
This was included in the last paragraph: "Please note this letter is unsigned and unstamped at the moment as I am working from home with limited facilities.
Yours faithfully" |

232 quid for up to 3 years and about 464 quid for up to 5 years. His COS was for 5 years though.
Should get the outcome within the next few days. May let you know once he gets the visa. Can a person submit self printed statement of account generated online or would one need to go to the bank to get a signed/stamped copy of bank statement ? Thanks |

LagosismyHome: Before it was straightforward as a friend had used it before ... You pay an extra £100 or so each in postal order on top of the normal fees and that gets you same day passport. You go through the normal completion of forms and payment online then show up at the embassy with the postal order for fast track with or without appointment . If it just you ok but for like a family of 4 or more that adds up quickly.
However when we got to the embassy , they said that express /fast track service is temporary on hold due to backlog and they are working on clearing the backlog so to get into the embassy was very strict and was mainly only by appointment . It took a lot of plenty talk to eventually enter and process fast track even with your postal order payment . However ETC people were allowed walk in so we almost changed to ETC
I saw a comment up here on this page by eduson33 were it was easy to do fast track just by paying the extra but that wasn't my experience that day as they said it's on hold . So I guess the embassy head touches on and off. There is a post office near the embassy so MAYBE someone can show up and first confirm if its possible and the fast track price then walk to the post office and do the postal order and then go back or maybe ask for Suleiman as suggested above Very accurate! Traveled 4hours to London with my postal order yesterday, just to be told that fast track option isn't available. I saw quite a couple being turned back as well and some were still being taken in based on who they know inside. Fast track is being done but it's on some sort of coded level. It's a shit show tbh ! The man I saw outside yesterday felt like he was "Demi God". Got fed up after several tries trying to convince them to let me in and left there. |

AeeNgy: The payment for fast track is done via postal order and its £100. They don't accept monetary payment at the counter that's why you're expected to purchase the postal order prior to attending. As far as I'm aware, there's no other payment required.
Like I said in my initial post, I didn't have an appointment but I was attended to same day. Please be aware that I do not work for the High Commission neither do I know anyone who works there. As such, I cannot guarantee what will happen when you attend. I only posted my experience should it be helpful to someone else. Thanks for sharing ! I understand the bolded completely |
Travel › Re: Nigerian Passport Renewal In The UK by brine(m): 4:07pm On Aug 20, 2020 |
AeeNgy: @ Stoicbaba,
I also applied for my passport renewal in June but didn't want to wait endlessly for an appointment. I decided to use the fast track option as I knew I would get my passport the same day. It comes at a cost though as you're required to purchase a postal order of £100.
I don't think you need an appointment to attend if you're using fast track ( I only showed up on Monday 10th August and by 1530 I had my received my new passport). I know this option wouldn't suit everyone but that's how I was able to renew my passport. So basically I can go with £100 , pay it at as payment for fast track/postal order and have my passport collected same day? So, what's the postal order for then? Sorry, I had to ask again. I don't mind making the payment as long as I am able to get my passport same day. Just worried I might not be attended to without an interview date and that would be a nightmare as I'll have to journey 7 hours to and fro London. |

Zeecos: For my Lloyd's account, I just transfer directly using my mobile app. It has international transfer as an option. Or you could use your bank card to transfer money via transferwise and the likes. Thanks I've been using transferwise but I think the exchange rate is a rip off compared to when exchanging at a local BDC. I use barclays on the other hand and the international transfer option does not includes Nigeria I'm ideally just looking for better rates than that of transferwise. |

Aijayfierce: Nope, it was ticked yesterday morning, later in the afternoon I got mail for pick up. When I called UKVI on Monday evening and asked about the status of my application, I was told a decision had been made last week, though I didn’t get any notification about that, reason I called. On getting my passport yesterday afternoon, the letter attached to it was dated 27th August, so since the UKVI customer care I spoke with told me decision was made last week, I presumed it was made on 27th August cuz that’s the date on the letter. Great! Congrats once again. |
