I'm seeking some clarification, please. My friend travelled to get married in Nigeria recently. The wife's passport was renewed a few weeks before the wedding with her maiden name but she has since made a newspaper publication for the change of name to the husband's last name. Now, she wants to start the visa processing but they are wondering if she can use the husband's last name for the visa application and other things like tuberculosis test, police report, etc.

Her passport has her maiden name but she wants to do the tuberculosis test and visa application using her husband's last name. Can she go ahead to do that using the marriage certificate and newspaper publication as backup?

Thanks.

Cost about £5k to sponsor 1 person for 5yrs. No be even license
This is incorrect. You pay £536 to get a sponsorship license(small companies) and you can sponsor up to 10 people with it. Bigger companies pay higher but it's still not up to £1500 pounds for the license.

Paid internship or otherwise?

it depends on when he wants to start. I think there are lots of internship opportunities in the summer
Thank you for your response. I don't mind tbh. Paid or Unpaid. We just want somewhere he'll be able to gain experience.

Does anyone know where I can get an internship placement for my kid brother in Doncaster? He's a computer scientist looking for a 6months internship. I've already checked indeed, glasdoor, linkedIn and totaljobs.

Thank you as you provide me with a link or something cheesy

For someone that is a student working part time and has like 40% deposit. What are the possible requirements to get a mortgage?

Does the person requires a payslip? If yes, how many month?

If i have an Accountant that can " provide" the payslip, is the bank going to verify the NI paid or would likely request to see the bank statement showing the payment monthly?

I know I need a mortgage advisor on this but we still have elders here that can detect a white fowl from the pot. Lol.
40% deposit for a house is good but the issues would be affordability and the length of your visa. Also, not forgetting proof of funds(6 months bank statement) needed by your solicitor. Ideally, your lender would likey request for just 3 months payslip and bank statement. If at all you'll find, the interest rate offered to you will be on the high side.

Asides from the deposit, you'll also need to pay solicitors, survey(optional), mortgage broker(optional), etc. So, it's important you put those payments into consideration.

While it's good to get on the property market as soon as it's convenient, I just hope people who are doing it are doing it for the right financial reasons. I have seen so many "how can I buy a house in 2 months of arriving the UK" and" how can get my credit score to Bleep in 2 months" a lot here and it all just reeks of desperation and that Nigerian mentality of "we have arrived".

Telling the agent that I am not renewing at the end of the contract does not suffice as notice?
This response was sent to them on October, that is like 2 months notice or it must come with the word NOTICE
Not wanting to renew a contract is different from "wanting to vacate the property". Tbh, I doubt there's anything you'll be able to do other than paying the rent unless they change their mind.

My sister works in the Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) of a FinTech in Europe. She said and I quote - once you see any transaction that could be flagged as fraudulent, there is no limit of what publicly available information (LinkedIn, FB, Twitter, Instagram etc.) to check so as to mitigate the risk as long as the info is used solely for that purpose and nothing else. Once a transaction failed security check, they go all out. The ideal thing is to pause that payment channel till it is certified ok by the FPU and before it is certified, DD must me carried out.

The OP can file a case which is well within his/her rights, but a FPU officer will squash it within 5 mins. There is no discrimination in Fraud Prevention (her words).
Take note of the bolded! Accessing the LinkedIn profile without logging in would have been appropriate as that wouldn't have raised any flags. What kind of fraud prevention unit checks customer details with their personal linkedin account to start with huh huh I reckon the person might have been working from home and mistakenly clicked on the search result whilst logged in to their Linkedin profile. Many of us in related fields are not above this mistake grin

OP has a case, to be honest. Although, I'd strongly advise the OP not to play the race card. I also doubt if any information on the OPs Linkedin profile factored in the decision.

Just trying to fill out my mum's application for passport renewal on this wonderful website of ours https://www.nigeriahc.org.uk/fees-processing-online. The page is broken and the source code of the website makes me wonder if they actually paid the developers that developed the website. HTML is broken, Database connection is presently no where to be found, no proper error handling and the entire website is just in shambles huh huh huh

I find some of the responses here totally unwarranted. Like, why would any one here think some people fear Just2wise !? Are we in a primary school settings?

BTW,
I lent a female friend £2k for her to add to her POF around August last year. The money was SOLELY for proof of funds and she even suggested that we could draft and agreement but I wasn't having any of that(silly). She messaged me today that she didn't get the visa and with all the plenty talks, she didn't even mention anything about my money huh huh. I was shocked by her response when I asked her for the money since there wasn't any need for her to still keep hold of it. She said she paid the money to an agent to forge bank statements as the money I sent and about N500k were all she had(What she got from the Uni was more like part scholarship). Then she also paid the agent some other fees. Long story short, she has given my money to the agent BUT I don't need to worry as the agent promised to return the money back to her in the next few months and she'll definitely send it back to me when she gets the reimbursement huh huh No apologies, but black people don't even rate their fellow black people and some people come here to talk BS about Nigerians not helping their fellow Nigerians.

For some of you here, the only place you get valuable information is only on Nairaland because the Nigerian/African leaving next door doesn't even rates you. Yet you'll see of them acting like someone owes them a response. We need to stop preventing other people from getting help PLEASE, because some of the attitudes we portray discourages people from providing help.

Thank you. I just tried it now and received an email concerning the initiation of the transaction. Hopefully, the transaction will go through in a few days with a reasonable exchange rate.

What's the best way to move money from a GTBank dollar account to any bank account in UK?

Banks statements or move the money into your UK accounts and leave it there for 3 months. It's a long time ago now but part of our first purchase was financed by selling my house in 9ja which was paid for in cash (9ja sha, we get liver!)
It took about a month to transfer the funds to my UK account and then another couple of months to buy the UK house. No bank has ever asked us for more than 3 months statements so that's my rule of thumb
Very insightful! Thank you for taking your time to respond.

It's not for first time buyers though. You can get 5% deposit mortgage (though very scarce) or add government equity loan of 20% to reduce the mortgage borrowed...
That's interesting, thanks smiley Another question, any ideas on how to sort out proof of funds for people that have some of the deposit come from abroad(Nigeria). This includes personal savings, selling personal items, loan repayment from friends, etc . Also, how about all the transactions from lemonade, moneyfex for example? What are those classed as? I might be over thinking this now.

You only need a 25% deposit if you're buying an investment property. For a house to live in, 10% deposit is the norm. Even if you have more than 10%, with interest rates currently low you're better off starting with 10% and investing the elsewhere. Then overpay monthly/annually if you have spare money.
I think it's 25% now if you don't have ILR or have not been in the UK for up to 5 years.

I digress, this is an appreciation post. Thank you all.
Congratulations ! I'm wondering if it makes sense to start looking for a house few months before you have your full deposit ? Let's say, you are certain your 25% deposit is going to be available in your account in the next 3months; Can you start looking for a house now? Agreement in principle and a substantial part of the deposit is available to the person.
