Known by many as Idia ne Iye Esigie, Queen Idia was a renowned Queen warrior not just in Benin but also across the world who shares popularity alongside Queen Nefertiti of Egypt. She was the mother of Oba Esigie, who ruled Benin kingdom in 1504 -1550. Oba Esigie was the first Oba to speak Portuguese due to the Portuguese merchants that arrived in Benin in 1485. He was the first West African leader to engage in a diplomatic affair with a European nation. Mother Idia was the first celebrated Queen Mother of Benin Kingdom, called the Iyoba. She went from being a royal queen (the Olori) Oba Ozolua who ruled from 1481 – 1504, and a mystical warrior, to becoming a crowned queen mother. During her husband’s era, Queen Idia, as the wife of the Oba, was a brave warrior who fought for the Benin Kingdom. After the death of Ozolua, her two sons, Esigie and Aruanran, disputed over who would succeed Ozolua as the next Oba. Still, Esigie, who was equipped with warriors by her mother, defeated Aruanran to become the 16th Oba in the Benin dynasty. After the war between his brother, Oba Esigie also... WEIRD WISHES Here am I sitting all alone again, doing what I do best – thinking crazy. I saw myself walking by the riverbank on a cold evening. The bird chirps tell how hectic their journey for the day was. The mother was seen picking off food debris from her child’s beak, while telling her how happy she is happy to have her as her daughter. The way she was seen resting her stomach against the moist tree branch pictures how stressful it is to be alive at that moment of life. What moment of life was I talking about? I likened her to most of our young girls that were forced into early motherhood. Maybe she had to, so she would ease the burden on her ailing and only parent, alive. Who knows the fate of… who knows if her father was killed by the hunter’s son trying to show his improvement or building skills. I mean his hunting prowess to his father or friends. I created an imaginary scenario. I projected a bird mother in a heated word exchange with the father of her daughter and he flapped his thick feathered wings against this young mother, hitting her hard that she lost grip on the dead tree branch. She fell down – flew back and picked up her now crying young child and flew off to a very far place across the sea. She flew without perching till she arrived at their new home. Though strange but she believes it will be the ideal environment her child needs to grow peacefully. She promised to be the best her daughter will ever meet. As I passed the tree, I felt something. I felt a liquid ball, off a lonely mother’s eyes, and get trapped on my listening skin. I wish to make her happy – if only I can run back hand of time, pause the moment that the last blink sliced the tears. Maybe, “Don’t lose hope yet, everything is gonna be fine,” would have avoided the tears of a lonely mother. #7thScribe If you enjoyed the read can you check out about our African family, the Nubia people. https://54history.com/history-of-the-nubia-people-of-sudan-and-egypt/ |

Nubia is an ancient group of amalgamated people that dominates the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan, Sudan. They occupy the Nile River Valley, which is eastward of the Red Sea shores, south of Khartoum (Sudan), and the west of the Libyan Desert. Being among the earliest civilization in Northeast Africa with a history dated as early as 2000 BC, Nubia (formerly, Kush) is a name gotten from the Nilo-Saharan Noba people who lived in that region during the 4th century. They are divided into two regions; the Upper Nubia, which was called Kush while under the 18th dynasty Pharaohs of early Egypt while the ancient Greeks called it Ethiopia. The second region, which is the Lower Nubia situated on the northern side of Nubia, Wawat. The Nubia people have many Kordofanian or Nubian languages, Nobiin, which is an old Nubian language, Midob, Kenuzi-Dongola, and Birgid language, although it died off. These languages are classified under the Niger-Congo language family. Nubia was built upon ninety-nine hills. Around 744-656 BC, they were part of Egypt, and as warriors respected for their skills in bow and arrow, earning them the name, Ta-Seti from the Egyptians. Historically, Nubia was mostly ruled by women. It is a norm among them to bur... continue reading... https://54history.com/history-of-the-nubia-people-of-sudan-and-egypt/ |

Why Are Most Sculptures In Egypt With Broken Or Missing Noses? Many misconceptions that come after the question, “Why are most Egyptians sculptures with missing or broken noses?” pop up often lead to disagreement. In ancient Egypt, statues are held of great honor, either god, goddess, a wealthy, or a legendary figure. Statues are believed to be a close contact or medium of contact with the figure used on the statue. Egypt is blessed with great artistic prowess in making carvings. Seeing most of these carvings now with broken noses has brought up questions about wear and tear, religious reasons, or a hidden conspiracy. Many believe erosion will be the reason for the missing noses. Archeologists point out that harsh winds, rainfalls, and dunes that have met these sculptures can damage delicate parts of these artworks... continue reading https:///2YIV5ZJ

KINDLY SHARE TO ALL. The ancient city of Carthage, pronounced; Kart-hadasht in Phoenician, while Carthago in Latin, is a Phoenician city on the North-western coast of Africa, which is now a suburb of Tunis, Tunisia. Carthage was archeologically dated back in 9th-8th century BC, a record that disputes what the Carthaginians claimed of the city being created in 814 BC by princess Dido who ran away from her ruthless brother, Pygmalion. However, archeologists stated that the traders founded the city of Carthage from Phoenicia, who named it Kart-hadasht, which means, ‘New City.’ It was founded by the Phoenicians in the Western Mediterranean to dominate the business in the city of Tyre which involves, tin, gold, silver, and copper. History Of The Ruined Ancient City Of Carthage Carthage locator (image credit: ancient.eu) After Alexander the Great invaded Tyre in 332 BC, Carthage grew in population with the number of refugees arriving from Tyre. Carthage, who still saw Tyre as its birthplace and worshipped the Tyre’s deity, Melquart till the 6th century BC, Tyre was ruined by the Babylonians. Other Phoenician colonies like Utica and Gades in Hispania signed a treaty with Carthage for protection and support while paying taxes to them who use it to fund their military strength and settle their mercenary soldiers. Carthage went from being a colony to becoming an empire. It became prosperous by the end of the 7th century BC. It became one of the leading commercial hubs around the West Mediterranean controlling Iberian Peninsula, Sicily, North Africa, Sardinia, and Corsica till the Roman conquest in 264 – 146 BC known as the Punic Wars. After Carthage was destroyed, the Roman Republic established a Roman Carthage. However, the empire and Rome signed friendly treaties and have fought side by side against the Greeks. Still, Rome was traditionally afraid of powerful kingdoms, which brought about the conflict of the Punic Wars, which was fought on three occasions to dis-possess the Carthaginians of the West Mediterranean. Punic is the language spoken in Carthage. The Phoenicians speak a Semitic language. Kart-hadasht went into alliance with the Etruscans that controlled Rome till the end of the 6th century BC. They supported the Persian king Xerxes in 480 BC when he went to war with the Greeks at the east of the Mediterranean although they lost the battle, the Carthaginians never went to fight directly against the Greeks. Instead, they were focused on expanding their territory. After becoming an empire, Carthage went from a monarchial ruling system to operating a... https://54history.com/history-of-the-ruined-ancient-city-of-carthage/
