Nairaland GeneralA Complete Skull Of An Australopithecus Africanus Of 2 Million Years Old Discove by BuchiPrinzy(op): 2:47pm On Sep 12, 2020
Two South African paleontologists, Robert Broom, and his assistant, John T. Robinson, on 18th April 1947 discovered Mrs. Ples – a complete skull of an Australopithecus Africanus, in a cave at Sterkfontein, 40 kilometers to Northwest of Johannesburg, later renamed to the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.

The complete pre-human skull was named Mrs. Ples by John Robinson, a name he derived from Plesianthropus Transvaalensis (Near human from the Transvaal). The fossil was dated to be 2.05 million years old. It was believed to have evolved from the Southern ape of Africa. This discovery supports Charles Darwin’s hypothesis of Africa being the birthplace of humankind

The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site before then has been a site for many discoveries, and that was what prompted the quest from Robert Broom and his assistants. Upon unearthing the skull embedded firm in the rock, the duo had to use a pickaxe and dynamite to excavate the skull. It was successfully removed but broken. However, it was able to be repaired, but not all the parts were intact, and to date, Mrs. Ples was reserved at the...

EducationNgwenya Mine In Swaziland – The Oldest Mine In History by BuchiPrinzy(op): 10:51pm On Sep 09, 2020
The name ‘Ngwenya,’ which means Crocodile in Swazi, is the name given to the second-highest mountain in Swaziland (formerly; Eswatini) crocodile-like shape.
Ngwenya Mine could be located along the Bomvu Ridge, North-west of Mbabane, close to the Northwest border of Swaziland. It was considered the oldest mine in the world, having been dated to have existed for almost 43,000 years old.

Discovered by a team of South African archeologists led by the field research officer, Adrian Boshier, from the Museum of Man and Science, Johannesburg.

With the Radiocarbon dating method, a charcoal nodule gotten from the Ngwenya Mine is widely believed to be the oldest mine...

More compelling reasons to believe that Africa is indeed the origin of humankind continued to resurface.
This time around, not about the 19th-century transatlantic slave trade but of a bone unearthed in Omo Kibish, an archeological site along the Omo River in Southern Ethiopia.

Human fossils were discovered at the Omo Kibish by an international expedition led by a Kenyan archeologist, Kamoya Kimeu, in 1967. Still, after a good dating years later using laser ablation elemental Uranium, Thorium, and Uranium-series isotope analysis, the fossils were dated to be 195,000 years old.

Among the discovered fossils were a skull, vertebrae fragments, ribs, fragments of both right foot and lower legs, a piece of the left pelvis, the lower end of the right leg, bones of the right hand, upper limbs, and shoulder bones.

Omo-1, as called, was believed to be a hunter around the East Africa savanna; he was thought to have weighed 150 pounds and was 5’9″. With the discoveries made at the Omo site, Genetic research claimed that modern humans – the Homo Sapiens- have existed for over 200,000 years.

Another site still along the Omo River, Omo II, was discovered. At the site, skulls showed more primitive characteristics than the Omo I was believed to be 130,000 years old.
Two pieces of a femur belonging to Omo I. While the lower part of the femur was discovered at the Omo Kibish; the upper part was unearthed at the same location in 2001.

According to a theory (Out of Africa I)... Continue reading https://54history.com/the-omo-i-modern-humans-discovered-in-omo-kibish-ethiopia/

1959 Holocaust On 21 African-American At Wrightsville Juvenile Correctional Facility.

How familiar are you with the ugly story of the 1959 Black Boys Burning?
A tragedy occurred at the Arkansas Negro Boys’ Industrial School – a juvenile correctional facility for young negroes in Wrightsville, Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States.

A fire that was believed to have been set by an outsider razed the dormitory housing 69 young black boys. At the same time, 48 of them managed to escape through an egress created by a night sergeant, a 16-year-old O. F. Charley Meadows.

The dormitory, which has two exits and was padlocked from outside, was set on fire around 4:00 a.m. on 5th March 1959. The house was filled with 13-17-year-old negroes that were believed to have been there for disciplinary reasons. One of them was reportedly administered there because he rode a white boy’s bicycle even after the white boy’s mother admitted to the authorities that she was aware.

Others were there for some petty stealing, crimes, violent acts, and homelessness.

Forty-eight of these young African-Americ... https://54history.com/1959-holocaust-on-21-african-american-at-wrightsville-juvenile-correctional-facility/

Let’s walk down the memory lane.
The woman behind 20 Naira note is Dr. Hadiza Ladi Dosei Kwali, the famous Nigerian Potter born in a remote village of Kwali, Gwari region in the Nigeria Capital Territory, Abuja.

She was born in 1925 to Gbagyi parents. Gbagyi is an ethnic group of people predominate in the central heart of Northern Nigeria, Abuja, the capital territory.
Her name Ladi means Born on Sunday. Ladi Kwali was born in Kwali, where pottery was believed to be a woman’s job.

As a child, Kwali was exposed to pottery through the traditional Gwari pottery-method of coiling and pinching, but she finessed her skills after serving her aunt.
Under her aunt, she learned the Gwarin Yamma method of coiling and pinching.

Having mastered the art, Ladi Kwali moved to Suleja and developed the Gwarin Yamma skills.

She made a large water storage pot (the randa), which she produced through beating from inside with a wooden paddle from coils of clay, which she perfects it with engraved decorated patterns. She decorated storage pot majorly for religious rites (the tulu), a household storage pot (the kasko), etc.

Most of her pottery works have symbolic patterns, including lizards, snakes, scorpions, chameleons, fishes, birds, and crocodiles.

Her clay works were mostly patronized by the then Emir of Abuja, Alhaji Suleman Barau, until 1950 when her work was noticed by a British studio potter, Michael Cardew, known as... https://54history.com/ladi-kwali-the-woman-behind-the-nigerian-20-naira-note/

One would imagine how many people from Japan wished they had the strength and body structure of Yasuke.
Who is this famous Yasuke that has a place in the history of Japan?

Yasuke was an enslaved servant of Italian Jesuit Alessandro Valignano. He was a Muslim Mozambique, and among those captured during the 16th-century transatlantic slave trade in his early 20s.

Although many accounts countered this claim, according to the 2013 program, Investigation by the light, by Discovery of the World’s Mysteries, points out that Yasuke could be a Makua man named Yasuke. He was equally suggested to have been a Yao clan member who came in contact with the Portuguese merchants. Backing it up with the Japanese suffix for a male name Suke.

A theory suggests that he was from the Habshi tribe of Ethiopia as it was discovered that some parts of Ethiopia still bear the name Yasufe.

An account states that he might be from the tribe of Dinka in South Sudan. Dinka’s people are widely seen as the tallest and the darkest people in Africa known by having a decorative tattoo on their faces, although no account records of Yasuke having patterns on his face.

CultureBrief History Of The Popular And Brave Mandinka People Of West Africa by BuchiPrinzy(op): 10:06pm On Aug 30, 2020
Mandinka people, according to history, are the descendants of the Mali Kingdom that rose to power, under King Sundiata Keita, in the 13th century.

Mandinka/Mandingo/Malinke are groups of people spread some parts of West Africa – Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Guinea, with an estimate of over 15 million people all around. They speak Mandinka, which is a branch of the Mande, a Niger-Congo language family.

During the 16th-century slave trade that became a lucrative business for the whites, about 92,000 slaves captured were the Senagambians – cluster of two Mande groups; Mandinka and Bambara.

Mandinka gained global attention when the author of Roots – a saga of an American Family written in 1976- tells an ordeal of a young African boy, Kunta Kinte, kidnapped and sold into slavery Northern America, in the18th-century; Alexander Murray Palmer Haley.
According to Palmer Haley, his lineage came through Kunta Kinte.

The Mandinka people came from the Nile River searching for fertile land to boost their crop production, were led by a brave king, Sundiata Keita who fought, conquered and took over the grounds from the owners. However, another account claimed that thousands of Mandinka merchants searching for a less competitive region to establish their business moved to the West of Mali in the leadership of general Tiramang Taraore.

These settlers raided and possessed more significant parts of the Cassamance region... Continue reading > https://54history.com/brief-history-of-the-popular-and-brave-mandinka-people-of-west-africa/

CrimeOkada Ban, Lockdown Led Us Into Kidnapping — Abductors Of Appeal Court Judge’s W by BuchiPrinzy(op): 11:29am On Aug 29, 2020
Suspected kidnappers arrested for the abduction of Mrs Ekwele Agube, wife of the Appeal Court judge in Cross River State, have recounted the various roles they played in the crime and how they shared a ransom of N6.8m paid for her release.

Agube, whose personal assistant, Glory Mpama, was killed during the kidnap on July 4, 2020 along Ministry Road in Calabar, was released two weeks later.

Although the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo, had said the woman was released unconditionally, the suspects arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, stated that they collected N6.8m ransom.

City Round learnt that IRT detectives led by DCP Abba Kyari apprehended six members of the gang recently after one of the phone number used to negotiate the ransom was traced to one Nsense Bassey aka Lion.

Other suspects are identified as Edet Ene, Christopher Effaeyo, Etim Offiong, Bassy Effiong , and Luis Otubassy, while two-locally-made guns and 15 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

He was said to have confessed to the crime and led the operatives to arrest five other accomplices, including an informant and a boatman, who ferried the victim to their camp in the creeks.

In an interview during the week, Bassey, 30, confessed that he led the gang to kidnap two others, a Cameroonian diplomat and a businessman.

He said the two victims spent one week each at their den and were released after a ransom of N2m each was paid for their release.

He stated he took to kidnapping because he had no means to feed his wife and their four children during the nationwide lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bassey said, “I was doing menial jobs to sustain my family but when the COVID-19 pandemic started and there was lockdown, I had no job and my family was hungry. One of my friends known as Christian introduced me to kidnapping. I joined because there was no way I could get money to feed my children.

“Our first operation was at White Market area of Calabar where we kidnapped an Igbo man selling auto spare parts. We were six that went for that operation. We kidnapped the man on the road and took him to the waterside. I left them from that point and went home.”

Bassey, who explained that he got N300, 000 as his share of N2m ransom paid for the auto parts dealer’s release, disclosed that he used the money to buy clothes and food items for his family and set up small business for his wife.

He stated that one month later, they kidnapped the Cameroonian and collected N2m ransom out of which he was given N270, 000.

In his account, 25-year-old Otubassy, the gang’s informant and motorcycle operator, said he took to kidnapping due to government enforcement on the ban of motorcycles in Cross Rivers State.

He said, “I am a motorcycle operator and I joined the kidnapping gang when the government banned the motorcycle operation in Calabar. Nsense (Bassey), who we call Lion linked me to the gang and I was using motorcycle to carry the gang members around the town to look for victims.

“On the kidnapping of the Appeal Court judge’s wife, I didn’t know that her husband was a judge. I thought the woman was a contractor. I was the person who persuaded the gang to kidnap the woman and her aid was killed in the process. I was given N70, 000 as my share. I didn’t know they got N6.8m. I was only looking for money to buy pampers for my child. I am sad that I got only N70, 000 out of N6.8m.”

The gang’s boatman, Ene, 28, said he got a total of N280, 000 share from the operations he participated in and used part of the proceeds to rent a house. He said he is an orphan and joined the gang because he could not find a helper.

He stated, “I bought food for the victims. I am an orphan and have no one to help me that was why I joined the gang. I fell for them because I was hopeless. I haven’t enjoyed anything from the share I collected when the police arrested me. I need forgiveness; I will never take to crime again.”

It's really shit to write to myself. Cos I do thing I'm psycho to keep writing for who doesn't give a rotten coin about my requests.

Verily, if I had known your address, I will be spend my last penny writing to you, maybe for questions, requests, or an invitation.
I really wanted not to write this, but at the same time, I have to vent out my curiosity which is burning me daily like I'm being trapped in a burning bush.
I definitely must write to you but I would biblically burn the letter, maybe. Just maybe, you're really up there and not on our mind, the smoke from the burnt letter would catch your attention.

I hardly pass a day without getting the "Whatever happens has a reason". Here I am pleading you should let me know why I lost my dad, untimely.
It's getting longer than expected for me to see or get your reasons for taking away the life you gave.
Was he a bet between you and someone, maybe your best fri..., maybe your greatest rival - the enemy of mankind.

I'm dead sure he must have had that believe that his father's death was a planned agenda which would yield good as purported, well... let's not talk about the disappointing part of the story.

Actually, I think it's too much to question on a single letter. Believe me, I would end up writing textbook. Just write me back once you get this, or preferably your house address. Assure me you won't steal my life away from my mom if I would pay you a visit. Sign it and publicize it, then I would come for some gists that might get messier.

Better don't Bleep up this time, old man.

CultureHistory Of The Famous Aboriginal Tasmania – The Massacre And Extinction by BuchiPrinzy(op): 9:30pm On Aug 27, 2020
The Aboriginal Tasmanian or the Palawa people are the black, indigenous group of people that arrived on the island of Tasmania 40,000 years ago through an ancient bridge that linked the island to Australia. Tasmania is 200 miles from the Southeast of Australia.
They were seen as fewer humans for their features; although reddish-brown, they had curled hair, had a broad nose, wide mouth, short and plumpy.

Because of the sea level that submerged the bridge that serves as the entrance and exit from the island, the Aboriginal Tasmanians were isolated from the outside world for 8,000 to 10,000 years until the Dutch invaders’ arrival in December 1642, archeologically dated 35,000 years ago.

Abel Jansen, the Dutch navigator who led the team on reaching the island, named it Van Diemen, in honor of Dutch Governor-General of the East India Company, Anthony Van Diemen.

After the British arrived Tasmania and made it home of the prisoners, on the 28th of January 1777, the people’s population was about 10,000 to 15,000 dwellers until the genocide from the British government.

Before 1804, the British had started killing the Palawa people. They were raped, killed, and tortured.

Their men were tied against the trees and had them being used as shooting practice.

The convicts and prisoners were allowed to use the black Tasmanians for sports, including spearing, shooting or clubbing them to death for fun.

This inhumane act was unchallenged to the extent that the British roasts the Tasmanian babies while they rejoice in their anguish.

Their women were kidnapped and raped continuously, with chains binding them.

With the effective plan to decimate... Continue reading >> https://54history.com/history-of-the-famous-aboriginal-tasmania-the-massacre-and-extinction/
