WORDWORLD: But Yorubas are not the only ones in Nigeria. And such adage doesn't apply to all Nigerians I hope you know that. It doesn't even apply to all Yorubas. Just that in my own experience many deaths are kept quiet especially if they are old or have been sick awhile. That said, we shall see in due time. And I hope you are right and I'm wrong. |

WORDWORLD: There is usually an out cry in African societies once funeral rites becomes the order of the day. Though without records, the out cry is a signal on it's own that something is WRONG. It is expected that in a case of PANDEMIC such as Corona Virus claiming lives in multitude there should have been an overwhelming out cry by the members of the public connecting these death to symptoms of covid19.
I sincerely believe that at present, Africa is still very lucky compared to others. At least for now which I pray remains as so. Hmm. Outcry. My experience is we suffer in silence. I am Yoruba where we say ' ti isu ẹni ba ta a fi ọwọ bo'. It means, 'if your yams grow big hide them'. The yams denotes good things, but we apply it to bad things too, especially when its not in one's favour to tell the neighborhood that that virus they been hearing is killing everywhere is killing in one's home. |

WORDWORLD: I don't think it really has to do with being bad at recording death.
Has there been any alarming rate of death anywhere in Nigeria recently as a case study, springing a call for caution because of its ABNORMAL TREND like it was first noticed in Wuhan, China. Such abnormality which made it clear to the Chinese government that something is WRONG?!
Observable analysis doesn't suggest so in Nigeria. There hasn't been any ABNORMALITIES observed anywhere. Nothing points to a PANDEMIC so far like it has encroached Asia, Europe and America at least for now. I prefer to be patient. Evidence shows there can be a lag in recording deaths even in more efficient nations, and it might just (I hope not), be early yet. |

LaMujer: He wasn't talking number of deaths, he's talking percentage of death. If Nigeria starts testing 1k per day, does that mean the rate would increase to 10%?
That's not how percentage works. It's deducted from the amount of sample you already Perhaps our counting is wrong. Some other countries have got their counts wrong, so we might have too, and Nigeria is really bad at death records. If someone dies in my own town in Osun State we would bury them before sunset and not record it anywhere, not to talk of find any other reason for the death than dem do am.

Mbakuthegreat: Oga dont speak nonsense, you dont need foreign ideologies, you need foreign knowledge that will help build capital and a prosporious Nigeria. Diasporans who refuse to bring knowledge back to Nigeria are traitors, and continental Nigerians who dont cherish that knowledge are traitors. In my own personal experience, the knowledge of how to accomplish things is what we need, and we should get it from wherever we can get it from. As Xi Jing Ping said, "it should not matter to us whether the cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice". If you come home with your foreign knowledge and start telling me I am stupid or I talk nonesense, you will be setting up barriers to you teaching me and me learning from you. You would not so much be a traitor though, just, incompetent. |

Mbakuthegreat: What they did was that they organised themselves and then opened up the economy and added special economic zones for investment, and the foreign companies already wanted to come due to China being organised and with cheap labour. Thegreat, I think you will agree that there is financial poverty, mental poverty, education poverty etc, and an inability to organise is a poverty too. Do you disagree that we do not have those things that you say China had? Mbakuthegreat: Foreigners want to come to nigeria and use the cheap labour to make things that anyone can make without advanced education. They don't. But first, "without advanced education"? Our education is mediocre and sub-standard! It does not teach us to question, to think critically or solve problems, or do what China did to make China great today. Foreigners do not "want to come to nigeria and use the cheap labour to make things that anyone can make"! Foreign investors just want to make money, and as Adam Smith said of them, "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest", and we, currently, have not organised to serve our own interests, not to talk of foreign interest. I can imagine the uproar if Nigeria had Chinese sweatshop or Mao's communes. As for the bits below, you are just whinning. If we are as competent as you claim we are, we would have competently solved those issues you mention, but we haven't solved them so can not possibly be capable, currently, of solving them! If we were not poorly educated we would have worked our way around them. When we become as educated as China was we will organise ourselves and solve our problems like China organised itself and solved its problems. For now, A luta continua; a vitória é certa. Mbakuthegreat: The problem with Nigeria is that they dont force these companies to hire Nigerian CEOs and to use local labour for the top positions instead of letting them bring in their own. This is why educated Nigerians can't find job when they come back to Nigeria, because the government doesn't put laws in place which forces these companies to not only hire Nigerians as low positions. And even Nigerians can do alot of the big manufacturing things you see europeans doing in africa but the difference is that african leaders rather give the contract to europeans, while our engineers can manufucture big stuff if given opportunity. Instead they will move to europe where they will get the opportunity, this is brain drain. |

Mbakuthegreat: I'm not spreading prejudice, im angry by the fact that Nigerian diaspora are some of the most educated in the world but are also the most traitorous and are busy making western countries richer instead of bringing their skills back to Nigeria and invest, and build it. Nonsense. Do you know what we say to diasporians when they bring their "most educated in the world" back to Nigeria? We remind them this is Naija, that they should take their foreign ideology back to where it came from! It does not help that the diasporian has forgotten what Nigeria is like though, and probably thinks they are the "most educated in the world" and everyone else did not go to school. All the same, we treat them like the one who stepped out of Plato's Cave and came back in. |

Mbakuthegreat: Are you stupid? You dont have to beg them to come, they already want to come by looking how many resources Africa has from low wage labour to natural resources. They will come never the less, but they will come faster the more we make ourselves investment friendly. Just because you are poor doesn't mean you have to sell your respect which africans have been doing for decades. And when they come you have to setup structures that ensure your people benefit the most like they cannot start their buisness without african ceos and they cannot bring in manpower and all has to be local. Thats what china did to western companies and are the 2nd economy now. But we are poor! That's precisely why we beg. You say they already want to come. We know they have come when their money lands to invest in us. It is a very good gauge of whether they have arrived or not. According to the UNCTAD, FDI flows to Nigeria totalled to USD 1.9 billion in 2018, and showed a decrease compared to the previous year ( USD 3.5 billion in 2017) under the effects of austerity measures.I've added a 10yr graph below. Neither indicate much enthusiasm of their "wanting to come", and all I see is factories they haven't yet built, and natural resource extraction with no value added by us. They even often bring in foreign labour to oversee us extracting our natural resources from the ground for them! You may call it "low wage labour", but it is low wage because it is insufficiently educated and surplus because we have not invested in ourselves so foreign direct investment begs to come to Nigeria. P.s. No, I am not stupid. Least I don't think I am. Do you think im stupid?

The bible classify wives and slaves as the property of the master.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
The bible, especially the old testament is riddled with barbaric laws and violence. And you see lots of people who read the Bible and therefore classify their wives as their slaves? Where? |

If it were only the pastors and religious leaders that were bad, the excuse would have been relevant.
However, the holy books are riddled with inhumane laws You know the bit where it says "Thou shalt not steal"? I'd say it's the simplest law in the Bible, apart from "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat". How many people do you see obeying those laws? And how many do you see following the inhumane laws? |

ThinkFreely: Its a not question of how you see it, it’s a question of what evidences suggest. You cannot deliberately ignore the million of questions evolution has answered because of a few ones it hasn’t. Evolution doesn’t in anyway suggest the existence of any creator. One must not make up crap in ones head and claim that is how things are. One must do science, as in evaluate with well developed senses. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Survey: Do You Believe In Evolution Or Creationism? Why? by budaatum: 3:37pm On Apr 18, 2020 |
JMAN05: Atleast that is what you believe about miracle. I don't agree with you. Miracles happen but some choose not to believe it. Their decision.
Evolution believes what there is no scientific evidence for. Evolution is much a hypothesis than theory. We just can't reproduce what they say, we only believe the "intelligent assumptions" that they bring forth. It is true that scientist seem to be more sincere to me than the many in Christendom. But not all things you see in the field of evolution you should just accept. There are many questions in these field than you think. There are fraudsters termed Evolutionist just like many fakes in Christendom. Some cook stories and deceive there fellow scientists. That's why I don't see evolution as a proved science. There are many assumptions especially when you transit to macroevolution. One of the issues here is that people assume everyone else's mind works like their's works. Hence a believer believes everyone believes. And they assume that like them, one waits at the bottom of the mountain instead of going up it with Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel to look on God's face oneself. Evolution is not just an hypothesis or a theory, but a fact, and Biblical too, though missed by most who read their Bible al a carte instead of starting at the Beginning and working their way page by page till the end so they see Yahweh evolve from fire and brimstone and drowning and turning to salt, into, forgive each other “seventy times seven times” and love your enemies moreso. It is a lesson of our own evolution too, from mud, to logos indwelled beings. But I guess we must not know whom or what we are. https://www.nairaland.com/5238668/evolution-101

However, the majority of black people have exhibited those beggarly features I mentioned. There are many instances to show how blacks sold their respects. Imagine a policeman holding the umbrella for a foreigner while he makes a call. Blacks are quick to shoot their brother who's complaining against the maltreatment from a foreign employer. There's no code of conduct for other races when they come to our land. We see it as welcoming they see us as simpletons. Go to other continents and see for yourself. We beg them to come so we must treat them with 'respect'. We need their money, unfortunately, since we are not as productive. We would be respected when we do well. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Survey: Do You Believe In Evolution Or Creationism? Why? by budaatum: 2:08pm On Apr 18, 2020 |
JMAN05: That is called a miracle. However evolution does not believe in that. So it is scientifically impossible, that is the point. "A miracle" is a phrase used to denote that one has not got a clue. And so it must be, that none of us have a clue, such that intelligent people say so, because, as it is written, "In the beginning", when "God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters", not one of us had yet been created to witness any of these things. But in our ignorant arrogance, we chose to believe whatever we manage to cook up inside our own heads and claim that is exactly how it all began. If only we could just accept our limits. But if we did, we would not be curious, I guess, and just might still be naked and enslaved in Eden. We do know the limits of our sc[i]enses though. Evolution does not believe what there is no scientific evidence for. That's why it rarely goes into how life began like you rightly accused the op of wrongly doing. And to be honest, Bible readers should not believe neither. The reason we are given two opposing creation myths in Genesis 1 and 2 is so we can question and reason and learn and understand and evolve, or rather, be reborn. Some would say that's seeking the Kingdom of God. |
