benalvino3: Let's not act like only white people were doing it when it was the whole world that was doing it No one is acting "like only white people were doing it". Arabs enslaved Africans too, and my great great great great grandmother was a slave before my great great great great grandfather married and freed her. One should however not disregard the fact that white people did colonise Africa and take lots of them away as slaves, and it was not on the whole beneficial for Africa.

raumdeuter: US slip down which rank? where is the current position of the US now?
The liberal policies of UK has made them fail so badly that succesful people are seeking to leave Manufacturing ranking, to name one. The U.S. is the world's second-largest manufacturer, with China leading in total manufacturing output. China surpassed the U.S. in 2010 due to its lower labor costs, significant government investment in manufacturing, and the growth of its industrial base. While the U.S. has experienced a shift toward a services-based economy and faced challenges with complex supply chains, it remains a manufacturing powerhouse, particularly in sectors like aerospace and autos. |

benalvino3: They bought them from the people who enslaved them. The people who enslaved them are their own.
Two different things... Before you blame the white man for slavery( you should) start with the black men who enslaved your forefathers and sold them to the White men. I actually blame both the buyer and the seller, but we are talking about colonialism, which took slavery to a level never before known. And before you start. I mean colonisation both by Europe and Arabs. I'd even claim Northern Nigeria is still colonised and enslaved by Fulanis, and the whole of Africa is enslaved by foreign religions. |

benalvino3: You can separate slavery from colonialism. Britain colonized India, and they were not enslaved. I've told you to go back to school and this time pay schoolfees. I can not separate slavery from colonialism because I know they went together. And Indians were enslaved, just not like you Africans were.

Egypt was once the greatest country on earth, so was United Kingdom that promoted it's language all around the world, and Rome, and Greece, but not now, same as USA will not remain great forever. Not spending money on social welfare but owing $37b does not forever greatness make. |

benalvino3: I was never a slave. You are the one not understanding. How can I say it is good for me?
I said colonisation was good for Nigeria which you agreed. You put slavery to the talk. You can't separate slavery from the colonisation it came with. Colonisation was not necessarily good for Nigeria because it involved the theft of millions of Nigerians. Like most things it has both a good and bad sides, depending on the understanding of who is asked.

raumdeuter: I dont want to be responsible for another adult. If I need more dependents I will have more children Most progressive societies do not give you that option, so you might want to consider buying some island in the middle of nowhere and live there. And for your information, you are not being asked to "be responsible for another adult". You are compelled to be responsible for your community. |

benalvino3: That's the colonized mindset we are talking about. You are thankful for the language of the colonizers. It helps you read their books.
Since it's all bad why not avoid it?
Yes, we had no choice which is the struggle and suffering I am referring to when I said our forefathers suffered. But there were benefits too.
You cannot deny this, Infact you agreed there were benefits. You read the books. You communicate easily with people from different parts of the globe Hopefully you see why I avoid you like you are the plague when you read I said there were benefits, yet still ask, "Since it's all bad why not avoid it?" Colonisation, like all things, had both good and bad consequences. Slavery, which accompanied it was good for the coloniser and bad for the colonised, and many would in fact claim colonisation's contribution to creating Nigeria is a bad thing they've been trying to destroy ever since. But that's far too complex for your black and white reasoning to get your head around I guess. |

raumdeuter: Public education typically goes to children and they are free because the children cannot work to provide education for themselves, Once they become Adults, then Universities and colleges stop being free
Just like there is healthcare for poor children You do know that healthcare is for the sick who can not work, right? What good is free "healthcare for poor children", but not for their poor sick parents? Would feeding those children not cost you more when their sick parents die? |

ono: First buda, I hope you are not the one who banned me last time I tried to respond to your posts.
Now, I am not the one who woke up one morning, communicated in English, dressed in clothes that are alien to my culture and tradition - and suddenly felt bad and ungrateful about everything I have received from my "colonisers"! It was you and your likes on this board.
I am grateful to them for what we have gained from them - medicines, Isaac Newton with his breakthrough Calculus and mechanics, nuclear physics, engineering, etc etc. This is real progress we can all see and there is no denying that it came from them.
Left to you and your likes, we should be consulting Ifa You know very well I hate liars and people who can't comprehend what they read. Read what that b has been quoting I wrote: budaatum: I never said colonisation was all bad. It is my opinion that if you had not been colonised, you'd still be selling yourselves and killing twins and believe the spirits in the forest are killing you.
My argument is, you had no choice in being colonised because you were less knowledgeable than those who colonised you, and along with that colonisation was your enslavement, which you think was good for you. budaatum: One should yap against colonialism in one's uncolonized language, is my preferred position, and I am thankful for my proficiency in the language of the coloniser and the books it empowers me to be able to read . I can't ban anyone. Seun has not given me such powers. |

How about you care for your health and I care for my health Why should you contribute to public schools? Is it not so you are not surrounded by ïgnorant people? Same reason you should care about the health of those around you so you don't contract diseases from them not being able to treat themselves. |
