Truths9ja:You make me laugh, thank you. No one is asking hungry people to rally. Nor is rally the solution to hunger or joblessness, nor will it enable us to elect good leaders. But I guess this proves the point. We can not organise ourselves because we are hungry, lol, which is why the food giving Tinubu, Atiku, babangida, Peter Obi are the ones we elect then wail that we have bad government and are hungry and jobless. Education is the solution to hunger, as it teaches people to learn what good leadership is and how to elect it instead of us ignorantly uneducatedly voting for a loaf of bread we'd eat today. We must perhaps not put our bellies first and vote for food, or we'd continue to starve till we learn. |
Ibime:As I said, the underprivileged. I'm certain Mamdani is not proposing to feed the children of those who can afford to feed their own children. And New York policies will not be for the entire USA, I doubt. In England, children are entitled to free school meals if their parent or guardian receives certain qualifying benefits or if they are in specific year groups. Specifically, children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 in state-funded schools, free schools, and academies are eligible for universal free school meals. Additionally, children whose families receive benefits like Universal Credit (with specific income limits), Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or the guaranteed element of Pension Credit are also eligible. Some local authorities may extend free school meal eligibility to all primary school years. In London, free school meals are provided to all state-funded primary school children. My niece came to London from Manchester for Christmas, and was surprised their London nephews just got on the buses without paying. She said she'd do the same when she went back to Manchester, but I had to let her know London has a free transport policy for certain ages which Manchester seems to lack. Her mother told me a bus driver refused to let a primary school girl travel because she had no money. We'd burn the bus company if they do the same in London. |
Truths9ja:Funds are not what elect governments. We the people elect governments. Our failure is an inability to organise and rally for what we want. And until we do organise ourselves, likely after the likes of the grandchildren of Tinubu, Atiku, babangida, Peter Obi, are tired of being chosen by us, we shall continue to graduate and be workless. |
bemeruca:I do not ever feel like responding to you when you lie or try to shove right wing rhetoric down my throat. Did Mamdani tell you he'd send social workers to go socialise murderers and paedophiles and felon dump, even after you full well know he has no such powers as mayor? Mamdani having a few social policies does not mean he'd socialise New York. Besides, I can't see why he wouldn't be an improvement on Adams or Cuomo, who seem to have socialised into their own pockets, or Silwa who did what that Jussie Smollett once did. Sliwa admitted that he and the Guardian Angels faked heroic subway rescues for publicity. He also admitted to having claimed falsely that three off-duty transit police officers had kidnapped him. Sliwa explained at the time his stunts were intended to underscore the dangers of the subways.Your mischaracterization of cococandy is taken the same way as when you mischaracterize buda. Note. |
Truths9ja:I beg to differ that "it's bad leadership that's affecting us". We are a democracy, imperfect as we are, and it is the followers who elect those who lead us. So, if we elect bad leaders, we should perhaps blame ourselves for electing bad leaders, and next time elect good leaders. Please do not, as some claim, try to argue that we did not elect bad leaders. Even if you did not vote, your not voting let the bad ones be our leaders, and we've hopefully learnt from our apathy.

bemeruca:I agree. Especially if he is socialist and governmentises private ventures. But what powers exactly is he going to use to do that? What Mamdani is proposing is no different to school meals for the underprivileged. He can not uncapitalise capitalist New York even if he wanted to, since he'd need capital to provide school meals. But I might be wrong. Do let me know when he abolishes mortgages and provides free housing, then I'll agree he's as socialist as is claimed. Incidentally, no one will accuse Nigeria of being socialist. Many would even claim government does not own the majority of businesses. But free education, and subsidized fuel and electricity, and labor subsidy (Youth Corps) are socialist policies, and government officials own the largest companies. Like most so called socialist nations, we are a mix. You just can't leave the poor and unprivileged to their own survival or their dead bodies will stink up your capitalism and make it unprofitable. And you can't have no social government intervention, or no one will monitor what's in the food capitalists sell you. A mix of both socialist and capitalist policies are necessary for a countries progress, or you'd have slaves. |
Thegamingorca:I don't want to congratulate Norris. Unfortunately for me, he drove impeccably and won, despite me waiting (praying, almost), all through for him to put a tyre wrong and be overtaken by my Piastri. If Norris wins at Silverstone, I'd have to sadly promote him from number 2 back to number equal, so I'm going to send Aussie spirits to put sand in his engine. |
basilico:I feel you. You'd hate school meals for the underprivileged too, and wouldn't mind them starving. Hopefully, New Yorkers won't unreason like you do. Do let Amazontopaz know that UK that is not socialist has most of the same policies as Mamdani is proposing, and the lights stay on. While USA that is not socialist is curtailing civil liberties, though not where guns are concerned. |
AmazonTopaz:I think if my country Nigeria was doing as well as UK and China are doing, I'd say my country Nigeria is successful, but since we seem not to agree on what a successful country is, there's no point discussing it. No country is fully socialist, as they all will allow some sort of private enterprise, a la capitalism. And no country is completely devoid of socialism, as Nigeria's free education and fuel subsidy are all socialism. Do let me know when you arrive here so I can ask you again after you have experienced the civil liberties you claim we lack.

uuzba:Well, you saw the stats I posted that claims a larger proportion of UK people have post secondary school education than Nigerians. The bold is the difference, and is why UK creates jobs while Nigerians expect the government to create the jobs, though the government is the actual people who are not creating jobs for themselves. For your "never saw a white British student in my class except for one elderly man later on", that would depend on the university. You wouldn't not see white Brits in a Russell Group university, as they know which has prestige. And most who take student loans don't "just use the loan to drink, smoke, carry girls and party" and "don't want to pay back that loan". They don't in fact have a choice in the matter, as the loan repayment is deducted like tax (it was in my day when first introduced). Starting pay for graduates in UK is not the minimum wage a non-educated non skilled would earn. And by the time it takes you to earn what the graduate starts with, barring you learning on the job which can be equally lucrative, the graduate might likely have doubled their pay. Nigerian education is abysmal, and I do understand why a Nigerian might find it useless, especially if they learnt nothing and paid for grades. But a person who actually bothers to learn will find their degree makes them resourceful and impervious to the glass ceiling a non-degree holder might hit, as shown by your elderly British course mate. Do note, learning plumbing, mechanics, electrician and the likes in UK will endow one with superior knowledge and earning power than many degree holders in Nigeria can dream of, but its not necessarily better than a degree from a UK university. |
basilico:According to Google, Whatsapp , Chatgpt, Grok, right? Now show where Mamdani has proposed "social ownership and democratic control of the means of production" in New York. |
basilico:I don't want to know what Google, Whatsapp , Chatgpt, Grok thinks or knows, but what you actually know. Define socialism please. |
uuzba:I do wonder how true this is. Facts suggest Nigerians do not go to enough school, and our education does not exactly equip us to create enough jobs. In 2021, 33.8% of people aged 16 and over in England and Wales held a Level 4 or above qualification, which includes degrees and postgraduate qualifications, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This equates to roughly 16.4 million individuals. The data indicates a steady increase in the proportion of people with degrees over time. In 2020, around 17% of the young population in Nigeria had post-secondary education, according to Statista. However, there are concerns about the employability of these graduates, with reports indicating a skills gap and high unemployment rates among graduates. |
bemeruca:And while you are at it, or rather, while I await your definition of socialism, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG6671HVhck And note, UK like most countries, are mixed economies with both capitalism and socialism, a Constitutional Monarchy and Parliamentary Democracy: |
bemeruca:Mandami is proposing similar policies that UK has thrived on, so if you call him socialist you must claim UK is socialist too, since he is not proposing to abandon capitalism in New York. But as I asked Amazon, define socialism please. |
feedthenation:Might have made sense if the main problem farmers faced was labour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuogVDlkip4&ab_channel=EpicEconomist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo6QsRtfJuc&ab_channel=DeepState |
AmazonTopaz:Is UK not a socialist country? Are we not successful? Is China, a country that has gone further than being socialist, not successful? If Nigeria achieved what China has achieved in the past 25 years, would you say we have not succeeded? In fact, define socialism, please. |
happney65:I thought the same, but wouldn't be surprised if Scotus sings from a different hymn book then. |
bemeruca: bemeruca:From "seems" to "claim", like you don't know what words mean. Below is from AI. Tesla is facing multiple challenges, including declining sales, especially in key markets like Europe and China, and a negative impact from Elon Musk's public persona and political activities. Additionally, the company is experiencing a drop in stock price and faces scrutiny regarding its profitability and reliance on regulatory credits. Here's a claim Tesla is losing on its home ground. https://wolfstreet.com/2025/06/10/despite-teslas-sales-drop-total-ev-penetration-in-the-us-rises-to-record-9-8-by-model-usa-made-content/ And if you google you'd come across lots of videos like the one below, so it seems some are claiming the Tesla is in worse trouble, but I'll wait and see. What I have found is consumers are spending less, and that will affect all car sales, especially electric that many are still sceptical about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ7VEyuP-kc&ab_channel=TheVerge |
bemeruca:There's lots of videos making the same claim, and there's lots claiming Tesla is finished. Believe either at your own peril I'd say, while I wait for the facts. |
It was a procession in the end.

Members of the Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox churches also sued, as did a parent group called Kids First that has members of various faiths. |
The Israeli military has launched an investigation into possible war crimes following growing evidence that troops have deliberately fired at Palestinian civilians gathering to receive aid in Gaza. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jun/27/idf-opens-inquiry-into-possible-war-crimes-after-deaths-near-gaza-aid-sites |
The inflation measure released today for May – the overall PCE price index favored by the Fed as yardstick for its inflation target – re-accelerated month-to-month and year-over-year, despite the steep drop in the components for energy. The “core” PCE price index, which excludes the food and energy components, also re-accelerated month-to-month and year-over-year. The year-over-year readings of both the overall PCE price index and the core PCE price index moved further away from the Fed’s 2% target. There are still no signs in the inflation data that the new tariffs are getting passed to consumers. If that happens in future months, and to whatever extent it might happen, it would add to inflation. https://wolfstreet.com/2025/06/27/pce-inflation-accelerates-but-tariffs-havent-shown-up-yet-why-the-fed-is-in-wait-and-see-mode/ |

Imagine France, Germany and UK decides to scrap their version of USMCA, which replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and say Germany (or UK whom I'd argue we already have with Brexit), imposed tariffs on the others. That would be smart, yes? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN8sL55tTJQ?si=doXH4kjNuUV4KZ7w |
