Apart from the fact you seem to have missed my "some", and inferred I insinuated "all lands", this is far more reasoning than I expected from you.

Just know that Ramaphosa may appropriate land, but he'd not find it easy appropriating funding from banks for those farmers, nor knowledge or experience either.

As for it being a mistake Zimbabwe made, Nigeria did the same with the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Decree of 1972, by which we appropriated foreign owned companies. It wasn't land in our case, but the sentiment is similar And while I might look at the subsequent decline of the companies that were appropriated, I can understand why its done.

Don't you consider some of that unused land is unused because it is rocky, or perhaps too far away from water and transport that might have in the past be directed, with government spending, to the desirable land that is already owned and not to the unused land?

It is also naive to think the people who decades ago chose the land they wanted for themselves would leave the better easily transformed to farmland for those coming now to easily transform the rest to farmland. But I bet you also think the whites who transformed land to farmland completely ignored the land the black people were farming for themselves, because black South Africans were not farming before white people arrived and transformed land to farm?

Some blacks who might want to transform land to farmland today might not have the history that might enable them to get the assistance and loans at desirable rates given to those with historical land ownership records, or have access to the international markets the long time land owners have access to etc, etc, etc.

First, I am not and have not used outliers to define a general population. I have been here long enough to know that different different people na im de, so I don't expect everyone to be me. This thread alone shows different people buy yam at different prices for whatever reasons, and that was my intention of posting the price of yam where I live, which you are now pounding into a meal.

I, as in me and not anyone else, would not remain in Nigeria for 12m if I could earn more elsewhere, which was the case. My skills earned better pay than 12m and I went for it. Basically, I found an employer to whom I was worth more, perhaps because I did not limit myself to Nigeria. As I said, ma and I paid school fees, and she would koboko me if I had not utilised the education she bought for me. And no, I do not have a current job. I earn for myself. Payment for my skills would be the same wherever I sold them.

Nigerian companies and the government exploit labour is why Nigerians don't get paid more. 70k is slave wages, and in my own opinion, no one should accept a minimum wage of 70k unless they are the sort who sweat small for their daily bread, which will cost what it costs regardless of anyone's pay. The baker is not your friend.

Now, as I said. different different people. And that includes seeing things differently too since we are not programmed the same.

The complaint is not against the farmer, but that cost of this have so skyrocketed due to the loss in value of our hallowed Naira.

That so called "loss in value of our hallowed Naira" affects the farmers too, since all their input cost have gone up. And they'll recoup that cost by charging consumers more.

Solution? Perhaps tell your employer you are worth more than ₦70k. Though, with the high unemployment rate, your employer might just easily replace you with someone else.

By the way, the "loss in value of our hallowed Naira" is due to a reduction in productivity, but that's probably beyond the scope of those complaining about the price of yam.

China, with its convenient blood induced one party rule, has 50 year plans and 25 year plans and 10 and 5 year plans, and they do not divert from their implementation, while we change plans when we change leaders.

China also has a history that spans like 5000 years, and a lot of mistakes to learn from accumulate in that time.

To the person planting the yam, 2k is not enough, considering cost of land, and fertilizer, and labour, and security, and storage, and transportation, and loan interest.

That's probably why some smarter farmers (the Ghanaians, since Nigerian yam is not available here much), export their yam where a small tuber costs £5.

Farmers don't care if you eat, is my point. They plant their crop for their own profit.
