Rip bro etruth - we will all go down at some point , no pains and no joy about your fate it's our destiny. I have got help in places i never expected, so i am always ready to help. But this particular case was just so annoying. |
I really didn't want to post this experience that I had some days back on my trip to Lagos from Abuja on the 30th of Oct, 2015. But with my last conversation with the scammer I thought I should in order to free myself from the bottled up annoyance I feel at such a despicable fellow. I work in Abuja away from my family in Lagos, thus the need to always travel intermittently to see my children and wife. On this particular occasion being end of the month i was very lean on cash since I was yet to be paid and traveling to see my family after 2 weeks of being away will cost me much including to and fro money for flight ticket. So i booked an Aero flight for 4.30 p.m. but a day to the flight I got sms that it has been shifted till 8pm. Well no qualms, the most important for me at that point was to get to Lagos and see my family, couple with the fact that I had promise my children to take them out for pizza treat that night so i was really looking forward to the trip. On getting to the airport, the flight was delayed for another 1 hour due to bad weather condition. At nine pm we heard the announcement to proceed for boarding. While seated in the plane with the door locked ready to fly we observed that the light and the air conditioners keep tripping off and we became scarred. Suddenly a young man stood up and started screaming that he does not want to stay inside anymore that he was uncomfortable but the pilot wouldn't open the door and the inside of the plane became chaotic. Finally reasoning prevail the door was opened and many of the passengers ran out of the plane that they wont fly with it anymore that night. After an address by the pilot on the tarmac guarantying our safety some still insist on not flying that night any more. Even me I was in dilemma over what to do. However, the pilot explanation of what happened sound very logical and those who are familiar with flying corroborate it. Nevertheless, it takes a strong minded fellow to close his or her eyes to take the decision to fly even if the pilot sounded logical. However, where I was standing a fellow that missed flying in the ill fated Dana flight by following his instinct and some spiritual philosophy came near me and was telling me the story of how he missed dana flight and how he had a dream that he was in a plan that collided in the air with another one on monday night, because of that he will not be flying that night but take the offer from the airline to fly the next morning 7am, I made up my mind to fly that night because i dont want to be in another plane with a dreamer of air collision (lol) but that help me to make up my mind, after praying strongly for direction to take. Finally, the plane took of at exactly 11.15 p.m and we landed by 12.15 am, to a thunderous clapping by the passengers for the pilot. We disembarked and by the time we were done with our luggage and clearing it was 12.30 a.m. My wife was supposed to pick me up at the airport, but since it was late I had to cancel that arrangement with the plan to pick a taxi at the airport. However, I didn't have enough cash with me so I needed to do atm withdrawal, so i got 10k with the plan to use 3k for taxi since i don't live too far from the airport and in my mind 7k for Saturday morning runs for little things like fueling generator for the house, going to car wash in the morning to clean my car since i had not being around for 2 weeks and other petty things. now to my scammer, I was waiting for a taxi outside MMA2 and by now it was almost 1 a.m, when this man that was well dressed in a native with a cap to match walked up to me in the presence of some other passengers and narrated a story of nobody to pick him up and it is late so the fellow to pick him up couldn't come again and he does not have atm card, i should give him 5k for a taxi, he will make arrangement to send it to me first thing in the morning. I felt embarrassed for him because he was well dressed, and for the fact that I had the same story except that i had atm card to use, that he also narrated his story in the presence of others. He looked like someone I saw in the plane, but now that i think about it i am no longer sure of that. So I gave him 5k with the agreement that he should send back my money to me Saturday morning. Now to me, I have a policy, I don't lend out money that I can't forgo. So in my mind 5k is small but it is still my money. There are times that i have met people who missed their flights at the airport without any cash that i have paid for their tickets and base on their stories and appearance you can tell genuine stories, the few times I did I got my money back with a thank you. But this particular case not a call to say thank you or even make arrangement to return my money. So I placed a call to him Saturday afternoon he never picked, later in the evening, he picked my call and said sorry my dear i have been busy in meeting all day i couldn't pick or return your call, but don't worry let us leave everything till Monday, I will send you your money, before i could say anything i heard a click, I checked my phone he had cut off. I shrugged it off, but i was wondering, i am sure this guy can't be older than me, but i find it offensive that he was using endearing words like " my dear on me like a young friend soliciting for help from him. Monday came in, I had forgotten about it, by mid day I remembered, I placed a call to him and he wouldn't pick. Later he picked and said to me, you know what my dear, i will send someone to your office in Abuja to give the money to you. So i said to him, you don't need to send any body to my office all you just need to do is ask for my account number and credit it with the amount. But he said not to worry, when he is ready he will call me, and I asked him, so when you knew you didn't have the money or intention to pay back why did you lie to me that you will return it Saturday morning with so much confidence and braggadocio? So i told him I wont call him over the money any more. I cut off. He never bothered to call me again then I also let go. Fast forward to Wednesday afternoon in Abuja, I couldn't do any online transaction on my account, couldn't make payment for things or anything and I was so furious with my bank because I later learnt it was due to BVN that i had done since last year, that i had even given them the number since January this year, I was out of cash so I went to the bank and wanted to use counter check since i didn't have my check book and atm will not work, so they insist that I can't make any withdrawal except my BVN is mapped to my account even when it was not my fault. Well i returned to my office in Frustration and cursing the bank, however, they promised to fix it that day. Later in the day I placed a call to the bank and got a confirmation that BVN restriction has been lifted off my account but I should get to the nearest atm to confirm. So I left the office, to ATM across my office, though I also needed cash. I made my withdrawal and as i was turning alas I was faced by a young lady who claimed she got stranded and will appreciate money for cab, that instant, I remembered "Ben" yes that is the name he gave to me and when I called it, true caller identified him as engineer Ben. And painfully i looked at the young woman in the face and I said a resounding no, She said just 1k will be enough and I still said no, and walked away. I felt bad with myself, that i could be mean enough not to even want to check out the genuineness of her situation all thanks to Ben, and right there and then, I needed Ben to either apologies or pay back my money because I cannot continue to close my yes to help someone in need in case the situation is real. So i called him and he picked the phone guess what he said to me, Bros shey i have already told you that i will pay you next week monday, why are you calling me and he cut off, to make matter worse Thursday evening by 10.30pm I was already asleep when a call came through on my phone it was Ben, I was furious, but he made the most annoying statement I have heard of recent, he said to me sorry i am just calling you to tell you I wont be able to pay you by Monday anymore, So i asked him, is this why you are calling me in this ungodly hour. Please don't ever call my phone again and I will appreciate it if you get off my phone now. So I cut off. So in all, probably Ben stay around airport and be scamming people of money, he could be making up to 30k per day on a good day that market is good and he comes across sheepish people like me. A man that is probably in his mid 30s if not close to 40 years old. My Story |
yes oooo fall |
The rise and fall of Bukola Saraki…… Saraki left the PDP for personal reasons……not because he wanted CHANGE. This is evident in his behaviour since APC became victorious. APC trusted Saraki, jilted Belgore just to please Saraki. APC asked both Belgore and Lai Mohammed to relinquish the state leadership to Saraki. While Lai choicelessly agreed, Belgore left APC because ‘I can never be in the same party with Saraki talkless of him leading me’…..Raji Fashola spoke and appealed to his bosom friend Belgore not to leave APC but the latter sought Fashola’s understanding on the fact that Saraki is not a human being and that APC will regret having Saraki in its fold. APC openly celebrated Saraki. Saraki nominated every single political appointments in Kwara……saraki rise and fall he took over the structure of the APC in Kwara. APC narrowly won Kwara with just over 100k votes above the PDP. Race for Senate Leadership began. This slot would have naturally gone to the SE had Ngige or other experienced APC senatorial candidate won but APC NASS conflict’s foundation was laid by the rejection of the party in the SE! Therefore, 3 major lucky contenders were jostling for the Senate President position……Lawan from NE, Saraki and Akume from NS all wanted to fill the vacuum created by the SE. Buhari and APC preferred Lawan from the NE instead of Tinubu’s friend Akume and Atiku’s choice Saraki. Tinubu being a smart man quickly asked his friend Akume to step down for the Party’s and President’s choice Lawan. Akume, another reasonable politician agreed! Tinubu is not just a driver, he also know when to accelerate and when to march the brake!!!!!!! Atiku and Saraki kept on accelerating even when it was obvious that the duo have approached the zebra crossing!!!! A warrior that knows how to fight that does not know how to run when necessary will eventually perish in the battlefield! Saraki and his pushers became arrogant and resolute to disgrace the APC and the President …. All appeals by leaders of their party did not hold water. Saraki said he wanted due process……therefore, the party organized a primary election to please him……Saraki lost the election and instead of staying within his team and agree with the APC Senators decision, he betrayed the APC and teamed up with the PDP to steal the hard earned victory of the APC through the back door. He wanted SP even if heavens will fall. He eventually stole it while 95% of his colleagues were away, he joined the PDP to ridicule CHANGE. He did not stop there, he made the PDP DSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha! What wickedness What a deadly traitor ?? The party was battling with the humble pie and sought further reconciliation by asking Saraki to give other leadership positions left to its preferred choices, at least to calm nerves and save the party from national disgrace…but Saraki once again injured the party and announced his own preferred choices behaving like ‘IGE ADUBI’ who cares less whether or not his mother or father died on the day of his birth! The intention of Saraki became very clear to APC……he wants to APC to fail, disgraced and destroyed……he has gone back to his former husband…PDP. But the concern of Buhari is different from the APC’s…….Buhari wants to eradicate corruption but how can Kwara Corruption King lead from the senate Number one priority of Buhari administration has been ambushed by thieves from the NASS…..Buhari, a soldier and a war tested veteran will not give up the fight to eradicate corruption in Nigeria. His preference for Lawan has nothing to do with politics but with policies! Saraki obviously has constituted himself to be a clog in the wheels of CHANGE.He has become the arrow head of Business as Usual in a government of CHANGE! Therefore his book of remembrance was opened. His judgement became expedient…..Since he wanted to be one of leaders in the government of Change, he must be thoroughly searched. Buhari the first leader has been searched…….Osinbajo the second leader has been searched…..so why will Saraki the ‘third’ leader avoid search? You cannot eat your cake and have it!!!!! For those who said why saraki? Keep your mouth shut. Saraki wants to be number three and therefore, his cupboards must be opened, we must know his condition and fitness……if he passed this current test, then CHANGE will admit him but if he fails……CHANGE will purge him…….. This is not a joke! CHANGE has come to Nigeria and he who must come to equity must come with clean hands! And that is what we mean by Common Sense Revolution! CULLED FROM Ayoade Lanre Bex |
Mystical888:Madam, for me I will never leave my entire family open to all sorts the way you have done. Considering the fact that your children are being raised by another woman who spend more quality time with them than you do. they will definitely imbibe her values. But be as it may, because of economic situation you need to work. My observation in all this is that, you have not even discussed your observation with the nanny. See it is easy to fire employee but getting good replacement is always a challenge. So take it easy. rather than assuming the woman is not challenge enough as per tasking, i will advise you have one on one with her |
TonyeBarcanista:You are becoming pathetic with each passing day. I really pity you as your wailing days are numbered. |
obstead200:You are not tribalistic but you concocted this kind of tribalistic statement putting a particular human behaviour to certain set of people. What you have just done is called cognitive dissonance. |
tonychristopher:You are just loading your mind with negative thoughts which will never do you any good. You better leave behind tribal sentiments and focus on making your life better wherever you find yourself. Be it amongst yoruba igbo or hausa |
obstead200:You are damn myopic in your views. You are even sounding like the OP. Even your narration of your experience in the so called multinational you work sounds very arrogant. Why are you so fixated on tribe. If you are not careful colleagues will read through your thoughts and will label you as such. Please grow up. |
This guy needs to watch movie about gianni versace life and business after death and read about his life to understand work place. The sister asked him what he does in the company, that she has all the technical expertise and supplies contact. After his death she was left to manage the business and it took the grace of God and other family members to rescue the business from going under. Brother, please like others have said, you have issues with pride, you are arrogant and without business knowledge, rather than focus on performance delivery you are focus on taking over you predecessor's job, you are focus on spiritual attack and warfare at work. If continue with this mind set you will never be successful in life. I have seen it happening to many people in places of work. Be humble |
What we need to be doing is not just changing who holds power, but changing the way we conceive of power. There is the power we’re all familiar with — power over. But there is another kind of power — power from within.” (Starhawk, 1979) President Muhammadu Buhari has already won the psychological war on corruption – the fear of repercussion, at least, is palpable. Everybody is now scared of stealing and everyone is talking about the war even when not asked. The Nigerian atmosphere is evidently charged with the new spirit of the times. The battle of the minds was won without firing a shot. The next and the main battle front is not only in government offices, but in all strands of the Nigerian tapestry; in banks, churches, mosques, schools, taxis, fuel stations, market stalls, hospitals, the media, sports, security system and even the Internet. Let’s not derail the discourse here; Buhari has gotten all Nigerians to talk not only about, but against corruption, publicly. Nowadays it is fashionable for known corrupticians to buy airtime and talk against corruption on television—to act holy and to dissuade public angst and condemnation. But Buhari knows these persons just like every other Nigerian does. To pretend not to know a thief even when caught until the thief defends himself and proven guilty is one of the funniest lies we’ve been forced to accept. But that is the bullshit about the rule of law. But I’m not against the rule of law—after-all bullshit can also be used to grow flowers. My point is that the particular aspect of the Nigerian rule of law that protect known corrupticians who looted our patrimony is bad bullshit. It is painful to know that these corrupticians are everywhere, and like the shrew, deviously poisonous and constantly spraying their odious stench. One hopes the recently inaugurated Itse Sagay committee will give the needed teeth and close the loopholes in the Nigerian legal system before these same bad eggs encircle the President. Delay is dangerous. Buhari is a disciplinarian and everyone knows he came to clean the Aegean stable. Few days after his swearing in, his brother-in-law was forced to repent, a certain refinery announced its readiness to start production, a certain former minister publicly returned fleet of cars and certain amount of cash and others are running to take refuge in foreign hospital on phantom medical stories, and most recently, a self-claimed whistle blower rattled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the very ombudsman saddled with watching over our commonwealth, of stealing over a trillion naira. The fear of Buhari has grip Nigerians such that the Nigerian police was begging applicants not to pay bribe for the upcoming recruitment. I think Buhari has successfully mobilised the nation against corruption; the war is half won! The first challenge that stared at Buhari’s administration were the renewed severity of terror attacks, long queues at filling stations due to round-tripping and other sleazy deals that surrounded the management of fuel subsidy, and the perennial power outages. Buhari’s responses were swift and surgical; he immediately engaged the stakeholders of the power and the petroleum sector and extracted an understanding that restored normalcy to those critical sectors. Today, no Nigerian can deny noticing improvements in the service deliveries of those sectors. On Boko Haram, Buhari briskly rallied countries of the Lake Chad basin to put a multilateral force to confront the terrorists. After relocating the military command centre to Maiduguri and appointing new service chiefs. The military started recording success. From Borno to Adamawa, territories after territories are being recaptured from the terrorists; the plights of the internally-displaced persons are being ameliorated. Apart from several official visits to the IDP camps by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the First Lady, President Buhari ensured the released of the monies that were earmarked for the welfare of IDPs but kept away by the past administration for reasons yet to be explained. Such intervention was not only enjoyed by the mostly northern IDPs, in the Niger Delta, apart from the recent exploits of the Nigerian Navy pulling down bunkering sites even the ones behind Rivers State Government House, Buhari came to the rescue by fast-tracking the clean-up of Ogoniland. He followed it up by appointing a brand new coordinator to articulate the Amnesty Programme to its true intention. In the South-East, Buhari’s attention was immediately drawn to the overly politicised Second Niger Bridge commission by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Initially Buhari’s order for a review of the contract was misunderstood by those who felt they are about to be deprived of that strategic infrastructure. But the fact remains that the President was not only nosing for probity, but to ensure the completion of its construction. Within this period also the Buhari administration has released funds for the sports sector to enhance their preparation for the next Olympics and sundry competitions. The recent mauling of the Angolans in the final of the 2015 Afrobasket by D’Tigers cannot be unconnected with the Buhari push. The President knows that aside being a tool for providing youth employment, nothing conjures national integration than sports; not even religion. On the diplomatic scene, Buhari has been at the top of the game. His trips to the Chatham House and the White House were not show trips, these were deft engagements at its best given the calibre of those two countries in global affairs and the attendant benefits Nigeria stands to reap. His earlier invitation as an observer to the 2015 G20 summit, the Lake Chad region engagement against terrorism, the recent visitation by the UN Secretary General is a pointer to Nigeria’s blistering arrival at the international stage. While I will not encourage praise singing Buhari to start playing god in office, it is unfair to brush aside his efforts especially at this take-off stage. Our knowledge of the aviation comes to mind: ask any pilot, take-offs are always itchy, and they require steady hands and deep concentration and calculations if the plane must manoeuvre the clouds. That is when it is compulsory to wear seat belts. Nigerians must buckle their seat belts and pray for Buhari to dominate this fog of a cloud. I sincerely salute those criticising Buhari. He needs more of criticisms if he must remain focused. Criticism is a major ingredient of civil rule; it draws leaders’ attention to the other opinions, especially to how followers perceive governance. It helps leaders in formulation of balanced policies. But criticism can also be negative; geared not towards redress but to poison the system and pull down the leader. The recent tirades on Buhari’s appointments are gradually becoming poisonous. Yet again we are relapsing to our different ethnic choirs while still singing the change song. Buhari is not oblivious of the Federal Character principle. But he should make haste to fix his entire team so that his policies, actions and body language can easily be explained to the masses to avoid being constantly misunderstood by the governed. The whole idea of the All Progressives Congress machinery acting as government’s mouthpiece is not politically correct. There should be a line between podium tirades and articulating government policies and actions for public acceptance. Public engagement is different from campaign oratory. The masses too should learn to trust their leaders and first flush their minds of the mentality of seeing government as the oppressor and always playing the victim, weeping parochial tears instead of standing up for collective good. The ‘we’ versus ‘them’ mentality is what weakens people’s strength and hinder them from achieving popular goals. Let’s watch Buhari’s next moves. I stand to be corrected. Copyright PUNCH.
