You read books that you hope would improve your life, your peers start calling you "old school". You make it a point of following the news everyday, "old school!"

A bad society, economy doesn't generally 'delete' the reading culture of a people. Instead, it is often an inspiration to explore (reading included).

When someone is a graduate (even if na Arabic u graduate from) and can't construct a simple sentence without making a gigantic grammatical error, who is to blame here? Queen Elizabeth?

Fact is, if I was a muslim and I kept getting insulted on forums for my beliefs even though I had nothing to do with the actions of some group which shared those same beliefs (albeit an extreme version), it would just push me right into extremism.

In 2011 when my house was burnt down by Hausa touts close to the hostels, where were the frigging security offcials? They only showed up when we blocked the road in protest at the news of 3 students death. And what did they do to the Hausa youths watching and stoning from across the road? Nothing! Instead they turned their m.gs from 3 armoured thanks and fired sustained live rounds at us students for a frigging 30 minutes to the amusement of those touts. Thank the Creator we could still chase the soldiers away before engaging the touts who took to their heels.
Bottom line? It's high-time host communites stopped looking at students as rif-raffs with no values. Else we'll be having more of such incidents.

I personally would. If I have to be on the road as early as 4 a.m to beat traffic to get to work and spend another 4 hours to get back, that means I get about 3 hours of sleep daily. Ha! And one day I might just get to work and can't log into my workstation (not even a decent letter of dismissal). Nah. I'd turn down that offer gladly.
