Education / Re: Btw Dentistry Nd Medicine, whc Z Mor Tougher Nd Whc Has A Higher Employment Rate? by cahnellven: 1:31am On Mar 29, 2015
In Nigeria, dentistry is way tougher than medicine and surgery . The respective degrees are considered equivalents though . Medicine is slightly more prestigious here and elsewhere in the world.
Employment prospects are good for both but dentistry has slightly better employment opportunities due to the rarity of dentists in Nigeria.

All in all, both are nice careers but you should know that dentistry is actually a branch of medicine, since a dentist is only practicing Dental medicine .
You shouldn't choose between these two because of perceived difficulty or employment prospects ,choose based on what you see yourself doing in the next 15years .

Hello Nairalanders, I applied for a bach programme in SRH hoschulen in berlin and got to realize that the very programme wld in SRH campus in dresden.Any member of dz forum ever stayed, wants to stay or have someone that stays or stayed in dresden. Hows is it like for work and study..

Dresden is a nice city for work and study .Though it is in the east, it can easily give most western cities a run for their money in terms of employment opportunities
.It is the hub of silicon Saxony ( an association of about 300 registered companies in microelectronics, nanotechnology and related sectors) and many others .
It is arguably the most beautiful city in Germany hence its nickname "Florence on the Elbe",despite suffering untold destruction during the second world war. Rent and food is cheap too in comparison to cities in the west and north.
It is less than two hours train ride from Leipzig, berlin and Prague.
If you'll be studying at the technische Universität Dresden, then you're lucky to be in an Elite Germany university .
Just arm yourself with adequate proficiency in German and your stay will be worthwhile............ Beware of dickheads though

hello guys,

So how much are we paying into the blocked account as at today; considering the exchange rate? Thanks
Nothing much has changed . It should be 1.8million naira, +/- 60k naira . The naira hasn't fell much against the euro, or should i say the euro is falling at an alarming rate against the dollar .

Official exchange rate according to web indices is about 215 naira per euro .
Banks and resellers sales value should be between 225-235.

I hope it remains so or get even better.....

Poverty mentality.
Thank you. But if you think spending about half a million naira nightly on an overated hotel room makes you rich, then Good luck with your delusion.
Leave the shores of this country and see hotel rooms of real grandeur going for a tenth of some of the prices quoted here , maybe then you'll understand me .
Warren buffet is a billionaire that would settle for a 50k hotel instead of these poor excuse of luxury,if he happens to be in nigeria . . . .is that poverty mentality? No ,thats being thrifty.

I wonder if all these opulent hotels is a gateway to heaven, cos it beats me why someone would spend 500k on an hotel room .

Call it poverty mentality if you would, but these hotels are just too expensive .
Do one sleep on diamond beds?
Are the toilets made of emerald?
Do wishes come to pass there?
Do one get to see angels?

The presence of these hotels amidst abject poverty just shows how polarised our society is .
An average man see them as a dream come true, the wealthy few see it as completely normal.
I see it as a complete waste of money and misplaced priority . This isn't about hospitality ,its actually intimidation of the masses.
I'll pass

I am with styles2009 on this.

AK has been helpful and he has contributed immensely to this thread no doubt but truth be told, he is over doing it these days, making peeps lazy and all that.

Questions peeps ask lately on this thread are just pathetic. You want to go for masters and you can't use your discretion on little issues makes me wonder how some peeps graduated from school. E.g. AK's write up in the last pages of part1 of this thread dealt with alot of issues including how 3rd class graduates and grad with less than 3.0cgpa can gain admission in Germany and he has made reference to that write in this part2 yet, peeps keep asking the same questions. The most annoying part is that esdajo still gave a clue using himself as an example and peeps are still asking to give lists of school that will accept 3rd class and the school that gave him admission. It is just pathetic.

Please don't get me wrong, am not saying peeps should not ask for help/question but let us try and do some little research on our part. You just can't keep asking questions like list of schools to apply to, that offers this, that accepts this, if you can photocopy your certified documents etc. Like seriously?

AK Baba not trying to discourage you, you are doing great helping peeps out but kindly reduce the OVER-SPOON FEEDING to mere SPOON FEEDING.

AMANDA AWETU.

I read your post over and over again and i can't help but say its not only baffling but self contradicting.
You started by supporting styles for his childish digs ,then you metamorphosed into sympathising with Ak before subtly admonishing him for over spoon feeding (whatever that is)
Your response or whatever you call it, is totally pointless and as a consequence ,useless
Everybody on this thread has been spoonfed before so what's the big deal about returning the favour .
I wonder why people equate asking of questions, (no matter how dumb), to laziness.
The purpose of this thread is to help each other achieve a common goal.Let's stick to that

If i may ask, must you always reply to almost every post?
That Nigerian mentality of "using a sharp coloured photocopy" is rather the dumbest on this thread.
How about telling the applicant to try and get copies of same letter addressed to different universities,if they really want an admission to those school
Na by force to reply ? park well

Oga Titus ,park well jor. If eke is over zealous or anything, I don't think its any of your business .He replied someone and the person is grateful, that's what counts.
If the so called Nigerian mentality is dumb, I don't see how your Cambodian mentality of denigration and personality attack is any better.
Do you think derailing the thread will earn you any cheap popularity? Abeg go drink zobo

3. DHL is super fast and there is a 100% certainty about the period it will take to reach its destination. It costs 13k5 to send to Germany, from experience too. But before you give away that money, be informed that DHL has a special price for sending documents to school but majority don't know about this because the info is not on their site, at least the last time I checked and their staff will not tell you about this unless you ask. There is actually a special discount price if you are sending documents to schools.

Abeg ,how much is the said discount? It's pertinent we arm ourselves with knowledge of the actual amount waivable as discount so by the time one asks for it , the DHL guys will know one knows not only one's onions but one's garlic as well.

Thanks. Sucks for me though. I'm applying to Computer science (MSc). What about you?
Ehen she na 1 to 3? What I gathered was that 1 unit =1 weekly hour lectures, one weekly hour lab, 2 units= 2 hour class, 2 hour lab ,3 unit= 3 weekly hour lectures,3 weekly hour lab.
Maybe it's a case of different formats for different schools though.
My prospective course is Neurosciences

I don't understand the part where they said your transcript must be converted to the ECTS system else your application will be rejected. I even mailed them and they said the same thing. Also said if that's not possible, I should upload an official document explaining our credit system... That's the part I don't get. Don't know where to get that official document as my school said that cannot be done. Other than that, the application procedure is quite straightforward. Knowing that the program I'm going for is not restricted, I want to get everything right so as to have a 100% chance of being accepted.

Thanks.
I think that ETCS conversion requirements is applicable only in your programme of choice, cos it wasn't stated anywhere in the online application form of my prospective programme.
Though I'm not entirely sure, but 1 year of study =60 ECTS, you can base your conversion on that .
In Nigeria, one credit unit is equal to one weekly hour class and one laboratory weekly hour ( if applicable) .
You can also use the aforesaid system as credible explanation of your credit system.
Best of luck

I will advice you wait till next week before contacting them since you just payed into your blocked account. Mind you Cologne is not a state, it is the fourth largest city in NorthRhine Westphalia State.

Just google Alien Office in Cologne........ Email them or you give them a call (the problem with this is they might not speak English). Ask the status of your application politely and don't sound desperate. you can try this https://www.stadt-koeln.de/service/onlinedienste/kontakt/

Cheers
Cologne is not the fourth largest city in NRW,it is actually the largest and most populous city in NRW, and also the 2nd largest city in Germany ( discounting Berlin and Hamburg in this context since they are city states). It would only be fourth largest in Germany if the aforementioned city states are taken into consideration.

Guys can I use uni assist to send many applications with just one time payment? Or should I post the applications one by one?
If you applied to many schools through uniasst, then you can post the application documents in one package . Most times, all you need to provide as extra document is the online print out of your application for each individual schools and maybe your motivation letter .The rest like transcript and Certificate need not be duplicated, irrespective of the number of schools . Your application will be processed as soon as they receive your payment.

As regards the level of german proficiency one can attain by self study alone, i think B2 is very much attainable.
A combination of duolingo, rosette stone language tools and online videos can make one reach that level .

I guess the most expedient factor in how much progress one can make while studying alone is the level of determination and the amount of dedication one is ready to put into it .

I know of someone that aced goethe institut B2 exam without attending a language class, he achieved it all through intensive self study for about 5-6 months.

In conclusion, the level of proficiency one can attain is dependent on how much one is ready to push oneself . Granted, you wont sound like a native, but you can get around easily just like whoever attends a language class can .
