The country was in a political crinkum-crankum for the past five days before the APC Presidential primaries. As fate would have it, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged as the APC flag-bearer for the 2023 Presidential election.

Tinubu made a historic speech at the ancient city of Abeokuta, two days before the APC National Convention. This happened when he visited the Ogun State delegates to seek their support for his ambition.

Although the speech was delivered in Yoruba language, he broached several political stories which became trending topics on social media. In fact, the presidency had to respond to some of the issues he raised.

Amongst other things, Tinubu spoke about how he recommended Yemi Osinbajo for the post of Vice President in 2015. He confirmed the popular story that he is the man behind Osinbajo's emergence as the VP.

Tinubu also mentioned that Buhari wouldn't have become Nigeria's president without his support and influence. He reminisced the moment when Buhari cried on National Television after he lost Presidential election for the third consecutive time.

He noted that Dapo Abiodun is among those who have benefitted greatly from his influence as a political leader. In his speech, he referred to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Ibidapo Abiodun, as "Eleyi".

"Eleyi" is loosely translated as "this one" in Yoruba. However, it is a condescending way to address a person in Yoruba land. Obviously, Tinubu has groomed many great personalities in Nigeria.

What made the speech spectacular is the way he canvassed for support. Tinubu explained that he has nursed the ambition to become Nigeria's President for a very long time. However, he made sacrifices for others to grow politically.
