Look for a Faculty member (Prof) in same school with research interest as yours, read some of the 'Faculty' papers or article.
Introduce yourself and express your interest based on what you have read about the Faculty, you can also attach your CV and Transcript to the email.
Just be ready to email as much Profs as you can (1 out of 5 might respond)

And as for prospective students, this is the year of Trump which will make US policy fluid and in a state of flux at least for the next 4 yrs. There is at least going to be a potential crackdown on H-1B visas for encroaching on 'American jobs'. This has become a really clannish place.
Again build yourself, toughen up before coming here. A lizard in Nigeria will not turn to an alligator in North Dakota and you will not start pissing rosewater when you get here. If you are coming in for economics and you have no solid quantitative background be prepared to work thrice as hard or boy you are in for one hell of a ride.
I It has been up and down here, I have been robbed, I have been towed in front of a NLders apartment (cost me $300 give a few dollars the week a few bills were due) and I have been in an accident (20th Nov) which was ruled by my insurance company as a 50/50 even though I was hit from the back, I'm getting a lawyer and disputing that verdict and going for therapy as I have been unable to walk since the accident.

After my refusal on 20th june, I paid for visa fee the next day to book another appointment.
After advise from @ DeeTus, @oluphy, @gunther6, @ DareFadi, @ texrem and @ calfavour, I entered again today and visa was granted. Transcript in a bit

Cursed people... Congratulations to all those that got their visas today but I dey vex after applying for PTA at a bank for 3wks now I was told to come there today. I got there what did I not hear, queue for the customer care, wait for the manager blah blah blah is it not that this people have sold my dollars to áboki like this..

ashbammy, calfavour, dickoflife, texrem now Oluudare have gotten their visa, to me this fall has come full circle and at over 95% success rate if we account for some fake trancripts i wont name names, we are perhaps one of the best on the internet. Congratulations everyone try not to fly Air Maroc if you can i once did and it was the longest 24hrs of my life, we look forward to travel/POE transcripts, insha allahu mine will be posted too... lionlee21 and walspring 'your visa is on stove and it af done' just go pick up whenever you are ready...
