The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged GCE candidates to endeavour to collect their certificates within four years of writing the examination as any delay beyond that will attract custody fee. Demianus Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs Department, WAEC, Nigeria disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, commonly referred to as WAEC GCE, is usually taken in November/December every year. Mr. Ojijeogu said: “the normal charge for the certificate is N3, 500 and only payable by those whose certificates were issued between zero and four years. “But from five to nine years is N8, 500; 10 to 14 years N13, 500; 15 to 19 years N18, 500 while 20 years and above will be charged N23, 500. “These charges are (for) custody fee; for keeping the certificates for so long because it occupies space in our office. It will also serve as a deterrent to others. “I don’t know the reason why people will sit for exams and their certificates are ready yet they will not come for collection. What was the essence of the certificate in the first place?’’ He also said that requirements for collection of the GCE certificates within Nigeria were an application letter, sworn affidavit from the High Court, online result print- out, one passport-size photograph, photo card and identity card. Nigerian highly placed cleric, founder and General Overseer of the Kingsway International Christian Center, KICC, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo has shocked his viewers after he compelled his congregants to give a thousand dollars for every year each of them had lived on earth. Pastor Ashimolowo already is worth over $10 million. He demanded in a church service that his members give what he described “the seed of Glorious expectation”, which is according to the number of years they have lived on earth. Kingsway International Christian Center is located in the United Kingdom with branches in Nigeria. The pastor said in the video: “For every year you have lived on earth, I want you to give a N100… No sorry, a N1000 naira. “If you have lived on earth for 35 years, you give N35,000. You have lived 60 years, you give N60,000. “Those who are paying in dollars to the left while those paying in naira to the right. “Thousand dollars to the left, thousand naira to the right, those that are doing the both, to the middle. “Get out of your seats.” The video was shared by controversial Nigerian On Air Personality, OAP, Daddy Freeze, who has always frowned at the ways men of God in Nigeria live flamboyant lifestyle, while their members suffer to pay tithe and offerings. OAP Freeze wrote, “Nigerians, their IQ of 67 and their men of God. Come and give a thousand dollars for every year you have lived?” “Can you show me anywhere in the Bible where Jesus used this ‘fund raising’ approach? I remember 5 loaves and 2 fishes but 1000 dollars?” See video: Source: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/06/pastor-ashimolowo-compels-members-to.html

Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development. Despite the current high level of unemployment, harnessing Nigeria’s young demography through appropriate skill development efforts provides an opportunity to achieve inclusion and productivity within the country. Large-scale skill development is the main policy thrust of the N-Power Programme. N-Power is also linked to the Federal Government’s policies in the economic, employment and social development arenas. N-Power addresses the challenge of youth unemployment by providing a structure for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development while linking its core and outcomes to fixing inadequate public services and stimulating the larger economy. The modular programmes under N-Power will ensure that each participant will learn and practice most of what is necessary to find or create work. The N-Power Volunteer Corp involves a massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates who will assist to improve the inadequacies in our public services in education, health and civic education. Some of these graduates will also help in actualising Nigeria’s economic and strategic aspirations of achieving food security and self-sufficiency. N-Power will also be a platform for diversifying the economy. N-Power is preparing young Nigerians for a knowledge economy where, equipped with world-class skills and certification, they become innovators and movers in the domestic and global markets. Nigeria will have a pool of software developers, hardware service professionals, animators, graphic artists, building services professionals, artisans and others. N-Power also focuses on providing our non-graduates with relevant technical and business skills that enhance their work outlook and livelihood. In sum, N-Power is segmented as follows: N-Power Volunteer Corps- 500,000 graduates N-Power Knowledge – 25,000 non-graduates N-Power Build- 75,000 non-graduates WHO CAN APPLY N-Power aspires to provide a platform where most Nigerians can access skills acquisition and development. At this time however, the initial modular programmes in N-Power are designed for Nigerian citizens between the ages of 18 and 35. You will need to meet the minimum requirements (if any) for your respective programme. Generally, selection is based: 1. on your expression of a genuine interest in whichever area you decide; 2. passing the relevant tests; 3. your willingness to push yourself beyond your comfort zone; and 4. ability to show a flair to develop all the skills you need to be the best you can be. N-Power Programmes N-Power Teach N-Power Teach Volunteers will help improve basic education delivery in Nigeria. N-Power Teach Volunteers will be deployed as teacher assistants in primary schools around Nigeria. They will not replace the current teachers, but will work as support teachers across Nigeria, assisting with teaching, school management and other functions within the schools. Where possible, they will also assist in taking basic education to children in marginalised communities. N-Power Health N-Power Health Volunteers will help improve and promote preventive healthcare in their communities to vulnerable members of the society including pregnant women and children and to families and individuals. N-Power Agro N-Power Agro Volunteers will provide advisory services to farmers across the country. They will disseminate the knowledge that has been aggregated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the area of extension services. They will also gather data of Nigeria’s agriculture assets. Source: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/06/facts-you-need-to-know-about-n-power.html |

An explosion has hit a British police base in Cyprus, leaving an officer critically injured. The blast which occurred at the Dhekelia garrison on Tuesday morning was said to have been perpetrated by “a man on a motorbike.” Cyprus Mail reports that the man on a motorbike rode up to the police station at Dhekelia garrison and lobbed a grenade. The newspaper said the attack could be related to the involvement of the British police in a crackdown on illegal bird trapping. UK Police spokesperson, Kristian Gray, said investigations were ongoing and authorities are viewing the explosion as a criminal case. He confirmed that, “the grenade had been thrown by a man on a motorbike; injuring a police officer on duty. “The building suffered no structural damage, just a broken window.” Cyprus became an independent republic, free from British colonial rule, in 1960, but the UK retains two bases which remain British sovereign territory and house military headquarters. Oyo and Ogun State Governments have declared Monday, June 12, 2017 as work-free day in the state. Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli in a statement made available to journalists on Friday said Governor Abiola Ajimobi approved Monday as work-free day to commemorate the annulment of the anniversary of the June 12, 1993 elections, generally believed to have been won by late Chief MKO Abiola. He said the government will use the anniversary to honour the martyrdom of Chief Abiola, who laid down his life for Nigerians to enjoy the democratic dividends of today. A statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, said the annual holiday is in honour of the late illustrious son of the state, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, widely believed to have won the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election, which marked a unique watershed in Nigeria’s democracy. The statement reads in part, “This year’s celebration will feature the annual ‘Democracy Walk’, which will be led by the governor, starting from the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta at 7am. “The walk is expected to take participants through major roads in the state capital to the Abiola family homestead at Oke-Ido, Gbagura, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, where special prayers and speeches will be made. “Later in the day, an inspirational stage play, ‘Oju Kelekun’ (farewell to reproach), directed by Prof. Bakare Ojo Rasaki, will be performed at the June 12 Cultural Centre, between 3:45 and 6:00pm.” SOURCE: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/06/mko-abiola-oyo-ogun-declare-june-12.html

PAN NIGER DELTA YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM (PANDLEAF), demands an immediate reversal of all steps taken by the Federal Government to concession the port that out and Warri refineries in a secret bid. PANDLEAF demands recourse and inclusion of people from Niger Delta region in the ownership of critical National Oil and gas assets.
