The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called on the Federal Government to embrace the use of dialogue to resolve the lingering impasse between the management of Capital Oil and Department of State Services (DSS), over the illegal sale of petroleum products stored in their tank farm by the NNPC. The union stated that workers have the right to protest the non-payment of their salaries and allowances and that the Federal Government should secure the jobs of those working in the sector. NUPENG, in a statement signed by its President, Igwe Achese, stressed that although it does not support the illegal diversion and sale of petroleum products, it was of the opinion that the Federal Government cannot sit still and watch workers lose their jobs. The Union also made reference to the case of Seawolf Oil Services that was taken over by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) in which it says workers are yet to be paid their backlog of salaries and entitlements for over five years. “NUPENG believes that the job creation mantra of the government should be allowed to play, rather than paving way for job losses as it is the case of the current closure of Capital Oil.” It therefore called on the government to allow the 2,000 workers to resume work at the depot and load products so that their salaries can be paid, “instead of throwing them into the unemployment market for no fault of theirs”. JAMB has started sending out the 2017 UTME Exam Slip to Candidates' respective email address. Here's the procedure to get yours. Please note that not all Exam Slips have been sent, and this will go on in batches. If you have not yet received a mail from JAMB, be patient and keep checking your email address for the mail. We expect JAMB to know that email delivery may be unreliable, so they should make adequate arrangements quickly to ensure that candidates are able to reprint their exam slips directly from their profile on the JAMB portal. When this is available, we will let you know on this website. If you eventually get the mail from JAMB, simply look for an attachment that comes with the mail. This attachment is a PDF file, named most likely as your JAMB registration number. First, download the PDF file to your phone or computer system to ensure you now have it offline. If you have a printer at home, you can print the Exam Slip directly from the computer without having to visit the Business Centre or Cyber Cafe. If you downloaded it with your phone, you can also attach the phone to your home computer and also print it from the printer attached to the computer system. If you don't have a printer at home, then head to any Business Center or Cyber Cafe, log into your email, re-download the Exam Slip and ask that an operator should help you print the Exam Slip. Please print 2 Copies of the Exam Slip because you would be required to submit 1 of them at the Exam Centre. You will then keep the other copy for reference. That should be all. You don't need to be in a hurry to print your exam slip. We believe JAMB will release a procedure to print this Exam Slip directly from their portal. OR REPRINT IN ANY ACCREDITED CBT CENTER SOURCE: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/05/update-on-jamb-slip-reprint.html

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged prospective candidates for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to crosscheck the data on their registration forms for the last time on May 6. The board’s Head of Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the call in an interview with the News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos. The call comes ahead of the 2017 UTME scheduled for May 13 across 633 centres nationwide. NAN reports that registration of candidates for the examination was closed by the board by 12 midnight on Friday, May 5. According to Benjamin, the call for the crosschecking of data by prospective candidates was to ensure total inclusiveness. He added that the board intended to ensure that no candidate was left out during the examination due to one reason or the other. “All candidates who desire to do any change on their registration details are urged to do so today as the platform closes finally by 9 p.m. of Saturday May 6. “We are giving all the candidates the last chance to ensure that everyone is carried along and provided with equal opportunity. “We also want to avoid a situation whereby candidates will have cause to complain of one incident or the other just before the commencement of the examination,’’ Benjamin said. Watch a clip of the seasonal movie here: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/04/prison-break-starts-tomorrow-april-4th.html |
Did you watch the first five minutes of Prison Break earlier today and now you're thirsting for more? Well look no further because we have an exclusive clip from the premiere that takes place shortly after those first minutes. Since you've already seen Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) and T-Bag (Robert Knepper), it's time to catch up with C-Note (Rockmund Dunbar). In the clip, Lincoln pays C-Note a visit to get more information on Michael Scofield (Wentwoth Miller), and you'll notice C-Note looking a little different as he's found Islam on the outside. And that's convenient as a photo of Michael features a mosque in the background, which gives the crew their first clue of Michael's whereabouts. The problem? Where they find out Michael is isn't a place anyone would voluntarily want to go to. Prison Break returns Tuesday, Apr. 4 at 9/8c on Fox. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that eligible candidates for its 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now purchase the pin for registration using the Remita mode. The board said on Sunday the development came on the heels of the reported challenges the candidates faced in an attempt to acquire the pins from NIPOST and the designated banks. The Head of Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the board had noted the many headaches of prospective candidates from various parts of the country, including Lagos. He said that candidates had lamented the difficulties involved in obtaining the pins from designated banks on the payment of N5,500 and the subsequent hassles in getting registered. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the registration of candidates for the examination started on March 20. NAN also reports that the candidates had described the process as cumbersome and frustrating as they have to queue as early as 2 or 3 a.m. in some cases in banks just to acquire pins. They had also said that often times, they spent the entire day waiting endlessly without results as the bank officials tell them that they could not access the site for the pins. They also said the development normally warranted them to spend almost an entire week trying and that even when they succeeded, they start facing the task of registration at overcrowded centres. According to Benjamin, candidates are advised not to panic as every eligible candidate desirous of registering will do so before the closing date of April 19. “We appreciate the fact that the sales of the UTME for 2017 which is hitherto set to last for six has been reduced to one month. “This was done in the interest of the candidates as it was to ensure that the challenges candidates are going through are resolved. “To further cushion the effect of these challenges, we have decided to bring the Remitta mode on board. “Candidates can now purchase the pin for registration from the comfort of their homes. “So, aside the banks and NIPOST, candidates can now purchase the pins through Remita,’’ Benjamin said in a statement. The statement explained why the board banned cyber cafes from registering candidates for the examination, noting that activities in the cafes damaged records and statistics of candidates. “In as much as we want to be inclusive, we cannot look the other way while students’ records and national statistics are mutilated. “Ours is an examination, so we cannot be guided by primordial consideration over quality and standard,’’ it said. According to the statement, most problems associated with candidates’ registration such as wrong spellings of names, wrongful placement of passport photograph and others emanates from the business centres at registration points. “Don’t forget, it is virtually impossible to regulate the activities of these business centres as their mode of operations did not provide necessary details about them. “These problems created by cafes make information gathering, processing and administration of examination cumbersome as records and data of candidates are distorted. “The accreditation centres are on the board’s website for easy identification cohesion and smooth operation,’’ it explained. He added that the board would continue to expand the frontiers and channels of the sales of the pins in virtually all the banks, with a view to bringing the services to the door step of every Nigerian child desirous of qualitative tertiary education. According to the statement, examination is a serious business and it cannot be left open the way some people want it to be. “We again urge Nigerians particularly anxious candidates not to fall prey to unsuspecting and dubious individuals who parade themselves as agents of JAMB with the intention to defraud them. “The board’s e-brochures and syllabus are on the CD to be given out to candidates and it is free and available as a guide to candidates to have a hitch-free registration exercise,’’ the statement said. With effect from 2017 , candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would spend two hours instead of three hours , the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Wednesday . The test on Use of English which used to be 100 questions has been reduced to 60 questions , while the other three subjects would be 40 questions each , making a total of 180 questions . The organisation said the reduction in hours was in line with international best standards and practices where no candidate sits for an examination such as UTME for more than two hours . The Registrar /Chief Executive of JAMB , Prof . Is- haq Oloyede, announced the changes in Kaduna during the commencement of a strategic planning retreat on monitoring , supervision and evaluation of 2017 UTME with the theme, ‘ Inclusiveness and sensitisation of key external actors . ’ Oloyede said , “ We are going to reduce the duration of the examination for this year ’ s UTME . You cannot keep children of this age for three hours . For their age , the maximum time you can keep them is two hours. So , we are considering the reduction in the time they spend because once it is more than two hours , you can’ t expect that they will retain their presence of mind. ” JAMB also announced innovation in the use of computer for the test , saying, “ From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode , we have noted the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse . This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode . In order to ensure equity and level playing field for all candidates taking the UTME , JAMB has designed a system that will allow candidates to use only eight keys without the use of the mouse . “ All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A, B, C, D for responses( answer ) to questions and keys : P = Previous question , N = Next question , S = Submit responses when candidate has finished examination R = Reverse ( do not intend to go further to submit again ). ” JAMB also said special privileges would be accorded to blind candidates in the UTME , including “ the transportation and accommodation of every blind candidate and one guide . ” Oloyede said , “In order to amplify the past efforts and also expand the frontiers of equity and inclusiveness , we have met with the executive committee of the Association of Blind Persons in Nigeria at the board ’ s headquarters in Abuja in February 2017 and we also met with prospective blind candidates from a school for the blind in Lagos about two weeks ago at the University of Lagos . “ The outcome of these meetings revealed that while the challenged group fully appreciates the board ’ s recent efforts at improving and upgrading the facilities for the administration of the board ’ s examination for the blind candidates . He added that out of the 13 commercial banks and the Nigeria Postal Service that signified interest in the sales of the admission forms , only nine had paid for the number of application documents required in the first instance . He said , “ As part of our approach to the ideal of inclusiveness, we invited all Central Bank of Nigeria approved commercial banks to participate in the sale of the 2017 Board ’ s application documents . Sixteen commercial banks and NIPOST honoured and attended the interactive session where we explained the reason and need for all of them to partake in the exercise . Oloyede added in pursuit of the all-inclusive approach of JAMB , JAMB had to patronise the NIPOST which could reach remote towns and villages . “ Even when NIPOST could not raise the capital to purchase the pins for the application documents , we had to open a credit line for NIPOST to also vend pin and pay later without reducing the commission that the organisation is entitled to per sale of document . ” SOURCE: http://www.fullgist.com.ng/2017/03/utme-jamb-reduces-time-allowed-for-exam.html
