You only see it when there is a need for AGGRESSIVE optimization and using the C/C++ language through the Java Native Interface (JNI) proves not to be enough for the performance gain that you want. Assembly is a challenge but its not too bad learning it (at the very least, for Malware development).
assembly languague  shocked  dude are you in the Jurrassic age or something.  grin

the people still doing assembly probably are into hardware programming.

i don't  see why any aspiring application developer will want to go trough the pains of learning binary

School doesn't teach you everything. Does it even teach anything?
school does teach something but the real learning starts when you are out of school.

That is why a graduate will always be a lower member of a team compared to someone with 5 yrs experience

@Fayimora
My advice for anyone planning on becoming a games programmer is to take a computer games programming course at a University. No games company will employ someone that read games programming from a book like the kind of advice that are being given on this forum, books are for reference, you learn the real stuff at Uni, book will only teach you how to write the syntax, writing syntax is not programming it's just child's play.
Wrong. the best way to be a great games developer is to start developing games as soon as possible.

While the course u take in uni are essential. the most important step is to actually devote time to learning and coding by yourself.

It is human nature, we learn best by experimenting. failing, succeding. . not buy cramming syntax and passing an exam
ProgrammingRe: Python Vs Java by candylips(m): 10:34pm On Jun 25, 2011
Fayimora like i said i code daily in java so i am emotionally attached to it as you do.

but tell me which of this code is easier on the eye

Java
-------

public class HelloWorld
{
    public static void main (String[] args)
    {
        System.out.println("Hello, world!"wink;
    }
}

Python
---

print "Hello, world!"

Java
------
public class Employee
{
    private String myEmployeeName;
    private int    myTaxDeductions = 1;
    private String myMaritalStatus = "single";

    //--------- constructor #1 -------------
    public Employee(String EmployeName)
    {
        this(employeeName, 1);
    }

    //--------- constructor #2 -------------
    public Employee(String EmployeName, int taxDeductions)
    {
       this(employeeName, taxDeductions, "single"wink;
    }

    //--------- constructor #3 -------------
    public Employee(String EmployeName,
           int taxDeductions,
           String maritalStatus)
    {
       this.employeeName    = employeeName;
       this.taxDeductions   = taxDeductions;
       this.maritalStatus   = maritalStatus;
    }

Python
-------

class Employee():

    def __init__(self,
        employeeName
        , taxDeductions=1
        , maritalStatus="single"
        ):

        self.employeeName    = employeeName
        self.taxDeductions   = taxDeductions
        self.maritalStatus   = maritalStatus

Fayimora:
I wouldn't say that because Java has one of the most easiest syntax I have come across. Its super straight forward. I doubt if python can do what Java would. Theres a lot more to Java than you have seen trust me. For me, Java is the best programming language.
Try an experiment. Write a piece of code in Java and Python compare them and come back and tell us the result.

While Java is awesome(i code in it daily) it  is ageing.

You can do some pretty cool stuff in Python, Scala , Ruby these days . . which can be really painful to do in Java.

Like someone told me recently. Learn a langugue u don't need. It will shape your thinking and make u a better coder

You just sound like everybody I know who lives in the UK jare. They all don't like the States. Incidentally, SA is one place I'd also like to live, violence and all. Cape Town is a fantastic city.
US is too violent.

Have you been to Detroit or east Los angeles. come and see poverty and violence.

New york some areas in The Bronx n Brooklyn. . . see drug dealers and prostitutes . Guys carrying Mac 5 in broad day light

Cape Town is lovely but Jo burg is hell. infact you can get killed for begin a Nigerian. Be careful what you wish for o grin

america is overrated. the place sucks. spent 8 (3 years in the nineties and 5 years in the 2000s) years of my life in that sodom and gommorah. in that babylon. and i aint never going back. it was an adventure. a heck of an adventure, but i am done with the place. i have never seen so many angry and desperate people within a square mile as i have in america. couple that with the fact that they all got guns and its a volcano  that erupts very often. a volcano of rage, anger, racism, politics, religion, class-ism, depravation and misery. not a place to raise kids
Two british students were murdered in florida a couple of months ago while on holiday

what people don't know is that there is a difference btw living somewhere and visiting.

When u visit for a short time you will have fun init. but living there is a different thing

Online shopping is not the same jare.
Agreed. but if you are looking for bargains that is where you should be shopping.

otherwise it will be a "shopping holiday" which doesn't make any sense to me. why will anyone want to go on a holiday shopping huh

Besides, shopping in the US is way cheaper than anywhere else. Likewise the UK. I've tried to shop in Paris, Milan, Barcelona . . . na gbagaun! Plus, not much by way of variety.
Last year I headed out to a supposed 'outlet mall' on the outskirts of Dubai. Outlet mall indeed. No different from the retail prices.

No try me for shopping o grin wink

As per buying property in the US . . . it is one of the few places in the world I can consider living in, outside Nigeria. I like the attitude and the way things are done there.
I find Canada to be almost as slow and boring as Europe, and property is similarly expensive.
Since u can't travel a thousand miles to go to a resort becos u have one in your backyard
why travel a thousand miles to go shopping when u can shop online and get whatever u ever wnated and much more at a lower rate.

Travelling for shopping doesn't make any sense in this global village thats why oyinbos don't do that  grin

Am not a fan of america anyway. if i ever wanna live elsewhere in the world it will be somewhere with much better quality of life like Canada/Australia or anywhere in the scandanavia

America is like a Naija that works. I feel right at home there. Everybody dey craze like Nigerians, aggressive like Nigerians, big houses, highways, lots of things to spend your money on, great malls, cheap shopping. I'm seriously considering purchasing property there.
Its the UK that has nothing. In fact I have X'd the UK from my itinerary. Even opted out of a work trip sef.
There are lots of places in this world to go for leisure and shopping. i don't know why Nigerians are so fixated about US or UK.

Even people in the UK or US get out of their country for holidays. its funny that Nigerians what to go to these places for their "holidays" instead

For example there are Fantastic holiday destinations in the caribbean where Nigerians don't even need a Visa

Why go to the US/UK for shopping when u can get the cheapest stuff anywhere in the world delivered to your doorstep by shopping online

What purpose will a property in the US serve you if you are not living there?
