Sagamite:and there i was thinking that the whites stole ALL of the the most fertile land from the black south africans i never knew they actually appropriated some of it legally. damn, Sagamite you are a pure genius!!! |
Sagamite:which liberal policy is this? well maybe if they werent going around the world destablising sovereign govts, creating poverty and undermining the economies of these countries in order to reap huge profits for their multinational companies these people wouldnt have to flee their countries in the first place. And for your info, the head of BNP is a Cambridge grad.Cambridge is the bastion of right wing ideologues, so im not suprised. This is the thinking level I have a problem with. The whites? You mean the white SAcan kid born in 1995? Or the one born in 1989? Or the one born in 1979?they are the beneficiaries of a system created by their forefathers, they feel that it is their birthright to be above blacks because that is what they have been brought up to beleive, many of them despite being young, do not socialise with blacks, the closest they get to blacks is BET or MTV and that is how they think all blacks are, so dont be deceived into thinking that because a white person is young they are not racist, they are, the difference between them and the older ones is that some, not all, some have learnt how to hide their racism. The perpertrators of Apartheid are almost all dead, just like slave traders. It is ignorant and silly to be hating on everyone that looks like them or is an descendant except they express the same views. All that needs to be done is peacefully, intelligently and justly address imbalances instead of building another generation of hate because you are angry. You are soo naive, and in many ways i feel sorry for you, aparthied never died, it just went underground, just like racism. I will target only those whites that have publicly declared the same vision I am against (e.g. members of the AWB), not all whites "Us vs Them" mentality.whites are cleverer than that bro, they now know that they cant get away with overtly expressing their racism so they now resort to much more subtle ways, and besides many do not know any other way to be, you have to understand that racism has been ingrained into their system so deeply that they dont even see it as racism, they think that is the way things were meant to be and that blacks are just "oversensitive" and have "chips on their shoulders" for not thinking in the same way. Are there not tons of Whites that fought apartheid? Am I suppose to support actions that would put them, their family and descendents in danger?try having a conversation with your white friends about wealth redistribution in south africa and if any of them agree that wealth reddistribution is a good thing then you will know that they truly beleive in equality for blacks and are not merely paying lip service. Malema is an utter slowpoke, no different from the BNP members you are condemning.Malema is a product of an environment that created hate and oppression, dont blame the victim, blame the architect of the system. |
Sagamite:I am not advocating the killing of anyone - what i am saying is i can understand where people like Malema are coming from because of what they have been through , i can EMPATHISE with their rage and anger, because it has been created by a brutal racist system, the way you reason its as if South Africa's history just started in 1994 after Mandela's release, like most white people you have refused to deal with anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, white south africans do not want to take responsiblity for the evil that they created in that country, instead of talking about righting past wrongs they prefer instead to brush it under the carpet and talk about the hatred that blacks have for them, let them deal with it because they brought it on themselves, i have no iota of sympathy for them. So what is wrong with BNP or some Russian brute saying all people without the colour of their skin should be killed or thrown out of their country. They want to keep it white and "clean".i have already told you what i think of the BNP and im not going to repeat it, i dont know much about xenophobian russians but i suspect they are no different to most white neo nazi groups who tend to be members of the white underclass who are not happy about the failings in their own lives and look around to blame easy targets usually blacks or other minority groups. I don't give a shite where the hate comes from, as long as it is bigotry I will condemn it. Is it NOT HATE that is boiling in JOS? Don't they have an AXE TO GRIND? SO YOU LOVE THAT?well you should do because that will enable you understand why people behave and react in the extreme ways that they do. the situation in Jos is bad, no one is disputing that - i will reserve any further comments on Jos because the clashes there are a recent phenomena which may have been orchestrated by outside forces. the situation between blacks and whites in south africa on the other hand has a well documented history behind it and there is no denying the fact that the whites are the architects of the problems that are being experienced in south africa today, the chickens have come home to roost as they say. the Jos situationyou are seriously contradicting yourself here, so you admit that you WOULD hate these racists but your hatred would be directed at the specific individuals who caused you pain, pray tell, how do you single out specific targets when apartheid was a state sanctioned legitimate system aimed at keeping ALL blacks down, how do you single out specific individuals from an institutionalised system of discrimination, the truth is you cant, it was official govt policy to brutalise, discriminate, detain and even murder blacks, this is what you dont understand and this is why i say until you walk in another man's shoes and experience his pain you are in no position to judge or condemn him. Then push the government to act, not turn into some sanguinary hate filled bigot and end up like Zimbabwe!as ive said the onus is on the south african govt to honour their obligations to the blacks who fought and died to overturn the evil that was apartheid, instead of causing diversions by singling out a harmless young man, white south africans should look at ways to redress the imbalance of inequity and injustice brought about by their heinous racist system. |
Sagamite:Ill tell you the difference - the BNP scumbags HAVE NO JUSTIFIABLE AXE TO GRIND as they were not made slaves in their own land by foreigners - is that too complicated for you to understand? You think he would be able to feed himself without making himself relevant through hate?how is he making himself relevant through hate, this hate that you talk about - where did it come from, what is its genesis - who instigated it? are you telling me hand on heart that if your entire family was brutalised under that racist apartheid system you would have nothing but love and forgiveness in your heart for whites? person, so you think they want it through violence?violence begets violence, a society built on legitimised racism ,violence and inequity will generate the same thing until there is a serious attempt to address the root causes of those problems. person, this is where you really laid it on the table that you are a UTTER MOOOOOOOOORON!last time i checked i didnt see hundreds of white south africans relinquishing their privileged position and ill gotten wealth in order to redress the imbalance that their ancestors created, until that happens i will assume that they are more than happy for the status quo to remain, as they say talk is cheap, if they are honest about righting past wrongs they should support land reform and various other measures aimed at wealth redistribution. |
Sagamite:For you to even compare malema with the stinking xenophobic scum who call themselves the BNP sums up the kind of i.d.i.o.t you are, have any BNP members been deprived of their humanity in their own country the way south african blacks were? It is common knowledge that the majority of BNP members are illiterate, underclass failures who have nothing to offer, most are dropouts and drug addicts who cannot get decent jobs so they look for someone to blame their failings in life on, if not for the welfare state in this country most of them would be destitute. After apartheid, when the REAL people that fought it are promoting love, reconciliation and creating a harmonous nation, some slowpoke without an education is coming in public to sing "Kill the Boer" and he would kill anybody for Zuma, and you are advocating it?Which people that fought against apartheid are promoting love and reconciliation? the people who fought aparthied want a complete redistribution of wealth which is what was promised to them after the ANC swept into office and that is yet to happen, how can you have love and reconciliation when the same people who kept you in bondage have still been allowed to hold on to their wealth and privilege? Boer primarily means farmer, secondarily means white. 3000 white farmers have been murdered in 16 years. That is roughly 190 per year (one every 2 days over 16 years), and you don't think it is completely irresponsible for this slowpoke to be singing in public rallies "Kill the Boers"?arent you ashamed of yourself as a black man running to the defence of these whites who hate your guts, who gives a damn how many of them were killed, why on earth should i give two hoots about a race of people who legitimised a racial caste system in order to amass stolen wealth and land. Persecute Malema? That is as ridiculous as leading an argument for Saddam by pointing out his human rights is being infringed. It engenders immense belly ache/nausea and makes the defender mentally lose the goodwill in the argument as the defended obviously did not know the meaning of the word when they were robustingly dishing it out against victims.you are a brainwashed fool - why dont you put your self in the shoes of those black south africans who watched their mothers scrub and clean for white men and women, their fathers die in those death trap mines, drilling for diamonds for these satanic demons, their sisters despoil.d by white men, their brothers beaten or murdered by the aparthied secret police, what is wrong with a young black south african man singing "kill the boers", did they not kill thousands of blacks themselves, didnt they incarcerate mandela for 27 years and brought him out when he was too old and too feeble to be a threat to them, didnt they beat steve biko to death because he opposed the injustice and atrocities that were being carried out in that country. up till today the apartheid secret police are yet to be brought to book for any of the crimes that they comitted in that country because of that s.t.u.p.i.d truth and reconciliation panel the south african govt set up and you have the nerve to think that they have no justifiable axe to grind. |
kabarka:what about jonathan's wife's money laundering case in which she was charged with stealing $13.5m USD and N104 m from the Bayelsa state treasury, wasnt Ribadu supposed to be investigating those, is he going to reopen this matter when he assumes office? |
autobiography - why would anyone with half a brain cell be interested in this phony individual, let alone read about her fake uninspiring life - name of her company - audrey silva after audrey hepburn and joke silva ![]() okay, i can understand joke silva being her inspiration being a fellow nigerian actress and all, but audrey hepburn!!!!!!! what on earth does the average black african woman have in common with audrey hepburn - jesus, talk about slave mentality!!!!!!!!!!! the only time audrey hepburn knew where africa was, was when she came to ethiopia to tend to famine victims WHEN SHE WAS DYING OF CANCER !!!!!!!! nigerians are so pathetic |
chidichris:chidichris i agree with you 100% - jonathan is a lame duck puppet -he has no real power - the foreign oil companies are running nigeria from behind the scenes and they can veto any decision being taken in nigeria which is not in line with what they want - look at how they are interfering with the petroleum ministerial position and the petroleum reform bill which is yet to be passed because of their insistance that its provisions are not favourable to them, ribadu is coming back to continue from where he left off - but this time to hound enemies of jonathan and his cronies, this EFFCC is nothing more than a kind of secret police organisation used to take out of circulation people who might stand in the way of Jonathan and his cronies. Definitely old wine in new jars. |
I agree with most of Ngozi Adichie's analysis - being an african and nigerian in particular she is able to spot things a lot of these western critics can't. However i disagree with her statement about the west pulling out from onshore activities and handing over to the chinese, i think its a bit naive to think that the americans and europeans would voluntarily allow their major competitor to take over their oil and gas stake . Also she seems to be in denial about the fact that the white oil workers use nigerian women as s/e/x objects - women who they are happy to sleep with but rarely marry, i dont know why Adichie finds that so hard to swallow. I agree with her criticism of the way the director handled Angel the bar girl's character, i too cant imagine any port harcourt bar girl running away upon being confronted by any man's wife let alone a white man's wife. - what for? I have seen the way most white people behave when they are in black dominated countries and they are usually a shadow of their normal selves, they are uncharacteristically friendly and humble towards blacks , very much in contrast to the way they behave towards blacks when they are in their home countries and surrounded by their own people. i agree with everything she said about the accents - the director simply couldnt be bothered to get it right and therefore with the exception of David Oyewole's character (Tobodo) and Sam Dede's character ended up presenting cartoon characters which in many ways detracted from the drama. |
trueword:lame duck and puppet extraordinaire , jonathan doing as he is told by the people who put him in office!! It emerged in Abuja over the weekend that the intense lobbying for positions got to a head on Friday and Saturday when lobby groups set up by the oil majors threatened that the companies would pull out of Nigeria if Jonathan refused to appoint a minister of their choice to the Petroleum Ministry.now we know who is really running nigeria But a source said that the lobby team of the oil majors have made it clear that they might divest from Nigeria if government fails to appoint a minister they would be disposed to as the head of the oil industry.and who said oil companies are not more powerful than sovereign states ? “There has been intense lobbying for positions, but the case of petroleum has reached a crescendo. It appeared that the oil majors are forcing Jonathan to pick Allinson Madueke but they are overlooking the effects. People will easily see Jonathan as clannish since the woman equally comes from Bayelsa like him. Besides, it is not right to leave out a technocrat in the field and put in somebody who only did ancilliary duties in the industry. The woman was in the Public Relations unit of Shell,” said a source close to the government.is it me or isnt there a conflict of interest issue here, so a woman who works for an oil company can also be appointed a minister of petroleum - i wonder who she will be beholden to? Meanwhile sources in Abuja confirmed to the Sunday Tribune that interests in the North are unhappy at the news that the petroleum portfolio will be going to Bayelsa.so these scumbags havent got a problem with being pushed around by foreigners they're just pissed off that the person the foreigners want to appoint is not from the north!!!! - these people beggar belief A source said that some top leaders from the North consulted on the emerging scenario and the place of the zone.ignorant backward scum - surely the appointment should be made on the basis of who can actually do the job not where they are from. |
REAL TRUTH:and the truth is that a person who fails to identify precisely where his problems are coming from is doomed to continue to make them ad infinitum. People have continually blamed the whitemen for Nigerias persistent problem since independence,,forgetting that there re other countries out there who had white colonialist just like Nigeria,,,and they ve since moved on to greater heigths,,,you are extremely ignorant of world history - why dont you try reading some books? Do we want to blame the whiteman for Yardua's situation? or do we want to blame the whiteman for the June 12 imbroglio that saw the cancelling or annulment of the only free and fair election ever held in nigeria,,,May be we also want to blame the whitemen and women who supported and voted for a Black man over a white man in the USA,,,,the sad truth is that you are brainwashed and sleepwalking through life - are you so delusional that you think the appointment of a wall street puppet as america's first black president is a good thing for the black race? let me revise what i said earlier you are in a semi comatose state. I personally would love Nigeria to be one,,,but being one,,,the country must be RE-DEFINED,,,if the country can not find any reason to be as one,,,then what is the need wasting time trying to be one,,,You don't need a white man to figure this out!!if you only knew what would lie in store for you once your "dream" of balkanisation took place you would recoil in horror. |
CILondon:Thanks for getting back to me with some really intelligent points |
sage:now i see what Emperor olu was saying about the IQ of the average nigerian - try and keep up sage the reason we have all of the above problems is because decent honourable nigerians who would reject the crippling economic policies that international institutions like the IMF and world bank stipulate as the model for economic growth and development in africa which guarantee maximum profits for foreign owned multinationals whilst impoverishing the indigenous population are either assassinated or toppled while the traitors who agree to crippling structural economic reforms are helped into office. in exchange for betraying their people they are guaranteed a long term stay in office, corruption amongst these traitors though part of the problem is only the tip of the iceberg, the real rip off is the huge profits that the multinationals make by way of access to cheap natural resources and unending interest which they charge on inflated loans. Let me break it down for you, the reason the average nigerian lives in grinding poverty is because our leaders have agreed to cut public spending , privatise the public sector and sell it off to foreign investors, devalue our currency and eliminate food subsidies all of the above have led to - mass unemployment, sub standard health care facilities, substandard educational institutions, increase in the cost of living, hike in food prices - and guess what? its set to get worse. |
CILondon:It must be nice and comforting to live in blissful ignorance but for how long are you going to keep buying into the lies that the west feed you with? surely in this era of easily accessible information there is no excuse for the level of ignorance that you are displaying on this thread - keep yawning my friend - people like you deserve what they get in this life, which shortcomings and failures are you talking about, Was Kwame Nkrumah a failure and what were his shortcomings? Was Sekou Toure a failure - please enlighten me on his shortcomings as well? How about Patrice Lumumba ? Something tells me that you have not one iota of knowledge or understanding about who these people were and what they fought for in the face of treachery and wickedness that they faced from europe and america. Are you aware that Nkrumah led the fight for economic and political freedom of africa, are you aware that he championed a Pan Africanist movement where all african states would form a power bloc which could counter external threats from the west, are you aware that he garnered support from the Soviet Union and China in order to counter the threat from the west are you aware that Nkrumah even joined forces with Patrice Lumumba in order to counter the imminent regime change that the US were plotting against Lumumba at the time. Do you think its purely coincidental that not long after the above incident both Nkrumah and Lumumba were toppled. What i would like you to do is answer the following: why were the above 2 african leaders who were known for their Panafricanist stance and desire for the economic progress and development of their respective countries REMOVED by way of american backed coup d'etats? please do me a favour and answer those questions. Also Sekou Toure the former president of Guinea who decided to take his chances and break away from a French controlled Francophone bloc was economically stripped and isolated by France for having the balls to stand up to them which culminated in the virtual collapse of the Guinean economy - so please explain to me why these great leaders with great vision for their people ended up in this way. Your limited knowledge and understanding of how the spoils of war (conquered territories) were shared out amongst the victors prevents you from understanding why some countries are winners and why some are loosers. The US being the victor set about to create a capitalist system of exploitation and expansion based purely on their own terms and not the terms of the conquered territories , as Rossike correctly pointed out to you the so called asian tigers like singapore, malyasia and taiwan were allowed to develop for strategic reasons - to counter what the americans perceived as the domino effect of communism (where one country after the other falls under the influence of either russia or china). You must understand that everything that has played out on the world political stage, post world war II was not based on luck or coincidence but done as part of a carefully orchestrated and premeditated plan on the part of the US. |
ROSSIKE:Yes its not very apparent until you understand american foreign policy, there's a book called the grand chessboard by former american national security adviser during the carter regime in the 70's - his name is Zbigniew Brzezinski - he is actually the power behind the current US presidency, in his book which he wrote in 1998 he sets out america's primary goal - to control the entire area known as eurasia (europe and asia) a huge land mass - why? because he beleives that whoever controls this region - controls the entire world - here is a quote from his book: "How America 'manages' Eurasia is critical. A power that dominates Eurasia would control two of the world's three most advanced and economically productive regions. A mere glance at the map also suggests that control over Eurasia would almost automatically entail Africa's subordination, rendering the Western Hemisphere and Oceania geopolitically peripheral to the world's central continent. About 75 per cent of the world's people live in Eurasia, and most of the world's physical wealth is there as well, both in its enterprises and underneath its soil. Eurasia accounts for about three-fourths of the world's known energy resources." (p.31) But going back to the US/China connection foreign policy advisers with Brzeinski being prominent amonst this group has highlighted the need for the US to keep China out of africa in order to stymie its economic development, the objective is to block all attempts that it makes to obtain natural resources and this is an ongoing process with nigeria being one of many countries targeted in Africa. Could it be that Yar'adua was poisoned by the Mossad (who run Aso Rock), after what was seen as his undue recourse to China?I honestly think he may have been murdered, but whether by mossad or the CIA i dont know, both groups have been known to conduct such acts in the past. I know for sure the US has been manouvering in places like Sudan and the Congo to curtail Chinese contracts. And Yar'adua was also about to pass the Petroleum Industry Reform bill, that would have decreed more favourable terms, and opened up oil fields to indigenous and Chinese companies, breaking the stranglehold of Elf, Shell, Total and co, whose deals with us are notoriously exploitative and unfair, wth the former offering far more favourable terms to Nigerians.the US has completely destabilised Sudan for the same reason - sudan has large oil reserves but unlike nigeria have refused to be bullied into trading with the US, they have chosen to enter into lucrative oil deals with China , this has led to the US imposing economic sanctions, fomenting inter ethnic conflicts and encouraging the southern part of Sudan (where oil was originally discovered) to secede from the north in order to destablise the entire country. I wonder if that bill, which was on its way to the National Assembly when Yar'adua was in office, will now be swept under the carpet, with Jonathan at the helm.interesting - i just read up on this and as at 30 march the national assemby are yet to push it through - its objectives seem positive - getting oil companies to pay tax on gas and oil as seperate entities seems like a good idea, but apparently the oil companies dont share this view, they're obviously used to getting our oil on the cheap and dont see why that should change, according to the article i just read the oil companies are opposing it and insisting that it should be amended, i dont know whether Jonathan will have the courage to push the bill through without any amendments. The thing is even if they do suceed in pushing the bill through, will the monies generated from the taxation be used to improve the living conditions of the average nigerian. http://www.wanttoknow.info/brzezinskigrandchessboard |
EmperorOlu:LOL - thanks bro, so true, you know a lot of the time i feel as if im in a twilight zone on my own where im the only one who can see all the atrocities that are going on in this world - its so disheartening when you try to debate intelligently with your own people and they are almost childlike in their inability to think critically, it does not bode well for the future of our country, because in order to stay ahead in this world you have to know your opponents position . Many of the issues i take forgranted that our people will know are an open secret even amongst educated whites (i say educated whites because the uneducated ones are even more clueless than our people, but they can afford to be because they are not living in the type of grinding poverty that are people are. On a more serious note,70% of Nigerians have an IQ below 70 so don't expect them to reason with you even though what you are saying is the truth. Many of the people on Nairaland worship the west because they were born in to a poor family and the first they tasted French fries and ice cream was when they went abroad.I agree and i find it really sad because if we were to regain control of our own country we could live much better than how many of us live here in the west where we are at the mercy of a vicious racist system that does not want us here. But people like you and i don't care about such things because we know that the west is the problem of Nigeria and Africa, as long as there is chaos in Nigeria, the USA will have easy access to our mineral resources.absolutely, this guy frosbel keeps going on about how we need to stop blaming the west for our failures, without understanding the full picture of why we are in this mess, it is not simply a case of poor leadership, there are other extremely important contributory factors which are working actively to sabotage all efforts of africans to be masters of their own destinies and exert control over their economic growth and development. Just this week the USA Government ordered the Nigerian government to stop construction of a road that will pass by it's embassy staff's residence in Abuja and acting puppet Jonathan obliged. That is after they labelled us as terrorist ,yet we still bow to them and jump when they cough. Do you think acting mumu Jonathan can ask the US government to divert a road that will pass by the residence of Nigerian embassy staff in New York?he has to, because they made it possible for him to be where he is today, he is their puppet and he has to do as he is told or he will be toppled just like his predecessor was and he knows it. dont you see that he his now trying to revoke a multibillion dollar nitel contract which was awarded to china in order to award it to his masters, these are all the instructions and demands set out to him when he met with johnnie carson when they slotted him into office. the americans are desperate to scupper all trade agreements between africa and china in order to impede china's economic growth, remember that america's economy is on the verge of collapse, china holds $1.4 trillion dollars in US treasury bills (debt owed by the US to China) they are desperate and fearful of China usurping their position of world superpower. very soon you will hear that the majority of oil licensing contracts are to be renewed and awarded to shell, chevron, exxon mobil and china will be kicked out - that is when the Poo will hit the fan - i cant see china taking this lying down. I am sure the next order the USA will give will be to ask mumu Jonathan to come and sweep the US embassy in Abuja every morning before he goes to work. We need a leader like Hugo Chavez who will come and delete all these cabals once and for all. I have got the heart to do it but with 70% of Nigerians having an IQ below 70 ,it won't be an easy task. - you're giving me some jokes here man, are you sure he isnt doing that already! he is their b.i.t.c.h - he cannot make any autonomous decision without them okaying it first, dont you see how he got rid of all former cabinet ministers who were in favour of doing business with China following instructions given to him by johnnie carson as soon as he assumed office. have you ever heard of a president of a country meeting with a foreign govt official, before meeting with members of his own govt, but because he has no real power he has to see them whenever they demand an audience with him. Nigeria has been a client state of america for a long time but now the americans are making it so obvious that they are running the country. bro i agree we definitely need a Chavez - do you know that when he was kidnapped in 2002 by a US backed gang of army generals under instructions from washington, the entire masses of that country came down out of the favelas (ghettos) and stormed the presidential palace - the new govt which had been installed by washington ordered members of Chavez presidential guard to fire on civilians but the soldiers who remained pro Chavez supporters refused and instead joined forces with the masses demanding that Chavez be produced within 24 hours - can you beleive that these cowards upon finding that Chavez had the overwhelming support of the masses and the army , gave up and got the hell out of the country, Chavez was then produced miraculously having been missing for close to 48 hours, he was then reinstalled by the people with the army's backing, meanwhile the turncoat generals fled the country and are still in miami , united states, hatching more plans in collaboration with washington on how to kill Chavez once and for all - Could this happen in nigeria i wonder? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Venezuelan_coup_d'%C3%A9tat_attempt |
ikeyman00:thats your prerogative, but please then dont complain tomorrow when you cant feed your family because of the grim poverty and suffering you've been plunged into by the powers that be. |
frosbel:if only it were that simple, in a utopian world yes i would agree that we are all masters of our own destiny, but unfortunately we dont live in a utopian paradise where every man looks out for his fellow man - this is a dog eat dog world, its a world where cunning, treachery, skullduggery and wickedness are rife and where honest innocent people die for no just cause. I have never said that the white man or chinese man is superior to us, but what i have said is that they have an agenda towards us which is not beneficial to the well being of our people, the chinese are actually a more humane in their dealings with africa because all they seem to want is to trade peacefully with us the british and the americans on the other hand have imperialist ambitions and it doesnt matter how well meaning and confident we are as a race it will not help us, what will help us is military might combined with sound economic policies and good leadership, but this combination is not easy to acheive especially in a country as complex and diverse as nigeria, if we are fortunate to bring forth a good leader and beef up our military to prevent invasion from the americans, british or any other superpower then we are halfway there - this is what chavez has done You say that Shell cannot stand in the way of a responsible govt who defies the west and puts its people first, you are grossly underestimating the power of multinational organisations - if what you say is true - why have there been numerous assassination attempts by the americans on Chavez's life following his nationalisation of Venezuela's oil industry? also can you explain to me why mossadegh of Iran was overthrown by the british and americans after he nationalised the Anglo Iran oil company (now known as BP) which was formerly run and owned in its entirety by the british govt. how about the assassination of patrice lumumba of congo by the americans and the belgians following his rise to power and his promise to use the mineral wealth of congo for his people and not for the belgian and american multinational companies - are you aware that he was murdered by a belgian and american firing squad, his body dumped in the boot of a car and eventually burnt with acid in order to remove all traces of evidence implicating the americans/belgians? how about the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana in 1966 by the americans following his meteoric rise to power and his declaration to halt the economic exploitation of his people. there are so many more examples in and outside africa. you actually dont understand that western powers wage covert and overt wars to oust "unfriendly" govts whose economic policies favour the indigenous people and adversely affect multinationals who are driven by profit and exploitation. You talk about angola but again i ask you - who are the beneficiaries of the huge profits that this country is reaping from oil and gas contracts - the same ruling elite and not the average angolan on the street, On paper, Angola is described as a middle-income country but 70 percent of its population live below the poverty line with life expectancy at just 41.7 years. there is a huge disparity between those who have benefited from the boom, and the majority living on the land that have not, average annual income in Luanda last year was just $201. The capital has huge housing shortages and yet almost all of the construction being carried out is geared towards housing foreign visitors and the new ruling class. There are ongoing constructions of hotels along with marinas, golf courses and luxury flats - but again these are not intended for ordinary angolans but foreign investors. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/sep2008/ango-s04.shtml http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Mosaddegh http://www.finalcall.com/artman/publish/World_News_3/The_exploitation_of_Africa_s_land_and_people_5661.shtml |
frosbel:frosbel if you had any sense you would go back and read about the history of western nations, have you heard of the berlin conference of 1884? - did you know that from that period onwards the white imperialists attempted to map out africa's economic destiny? Does it not occur to you that if a group of powerful nations could go as far as waging war against their own people over territory and resources (world wars 1 and 2) within europe they would certainly do the same over territory and resources in africa and other parts of the world. Is it too much to ask that you for one minute pick up a book and actually read world history? The thing you are totally oblivious to is the fact that africa is seen as nothing more than an unending supply of cheap natural resources to the white man and he is not prepared to let anything stand in his way to obtain this, do you think they see our humanity, do you think they care about our suffering, our terrible leaders - who incidentally are installed by them, - Guess what? They couldnt give a damn we are nothing to them , just objects. These whites who you revere, regard africans with about as much importance as you would regard a speck of dust on your shirt - a minor irritation. So wake up and learn to see and understand outside the rigid box that you currently reside in . Have you heard of the trilateral commission, the bilderberger group, the council on foreign relations? Go and read up about these groups and find out how powerful they are and how to date they continue to control and dictate the economic policy of many nations of this world. You say Ghana is moving on - who are the major beneficiaries of this progress? - the ordinary Ghanaian people or the Ghanaian puppet govt installed by the US. Cameroon - can they make autonomous economic decisions without having France breathing down their neck? Kenya - you say its like heaven, for whom? the Kenyan people or the white british elite who have been dictating the economic policy of this country for over 60 years. My sister did an exchange programme in Kenya in the 90's and she was appalled at the unequal distribution of wealth, this is how the Kenyan socio economic structure looks: europeans/white americans at the top - landowners, entrepreneurs, industrialists, Tiny elite Kenyan ruling class - corrupt politicians who work in collaboration with the whites and asians to keep the indigenous populace in poverty. Asians - business owners and entrepeneurs Majority of the black Kenyan population - poor peasantry who work for the above three would you be comfortable living as a black african in any of the above scenarios? |
ROSSIKE:thanks rossike, sometimes i feel as if im alone in my observations of what is going on in Nigeria but im glad you see what i see. i think our people are very much in the dark as to the West's real agenda towards Nigeria, this is why research is so important, the western media are the most toxic purveyors of lies, distortions and gross exaggerations you will ever find - take for instance the ongoing war in the Congo - how many times have you heard about that war in any western publication ? im sure you can count the number of times on the fingers of one hand - but this war is actually a proxy war being waged by uganda and rwanda against the congo ON BEHALF of the United States and britain in order to retain control over the eastern congolese mines which produce some of the worlds most sought after minerals like cobalt, uranium, industrial diamonds and gold. Most of these minerals are vital raw materials needed in the production of mobile phones, computers, industrial machinery etc without cheap and easy access to these minerals many western manufacturers of these products will fall into liquidation - hence the need to appropriate the land in this part of Congo in order to guarantee a steady flow of these minerals. The Congolese are determined not to lose their god given wealth to these theives and are fighting the anglo/american sponsored puppet armies of rwanda and uganda in order to regain control hence this atrocious war. This war has led to the genocide of over 6 million congolese and the displacement of many more who are exposed to starvation, mass despoil, beatings and all other kinds of brutalities but have you heard any mention of this in the mainstream press? Of course not because its them who are prosecuting this genocidal war and therefore it doesnt count as genocide. Lets look at another case - the war in Somalia - again this involved the use of a proxy army (ethiopia) who were backed and funded by the americans to wage war on Somalia in order to install a puppet govt which would allow america take control of the strategically placed gulf of aden which lies to the north of the somalian border - the gulf of aden is a major shipping route in which 11 % of the world's seaborne petroleum passes through - the americans want to control this passage, in addition 4 major US oil companies were granted concessions to explore for oil in somalia by a former us backed dictator in the 90's and the US under the pretence of supplying humanitarian aid are intent on taking control of this region. now lets look at nigeria - historically most religious groups have been able to live alongside each other peacefully aside from isolated incidents of bickering and minor clashes, but in the last 2 years there seems to be an escalation of these sort of incidents. this seems to have reached its peak around the same time that Yaradua went missing - now i tend to look at things in order of sequence (sorry i didnt have time to put in the dates but i beleive the sequence of events has been as follows since Yaradua's appointment:
[li] award of major construction contracts to china[/li] [li]china offered major privatisaton contracts in nigeria - the nitel contract being one of them[/li] [li]china offers higher price for oil licensing contracts which historically have always gone to america and britain[/li] [li]nigeria on the verge of accepting chinese bids for oil licensing contracts[/li] [li]nigeria accepts $2.5 billion bid from china in respect of nitel contract[/li] [li]yaradua goes away on extended medical leave to saudi arabia[/li] [li]america and britain start to clamour for successor as according to them "the country is beginning to fall into anarchy"[/li] [li]inter ethnic /religious clashes begin to flare up in areas of nigeria[/li] [li]a faction of the nigerian ruling elite begin to clamour for handover of power to Jonathan[/li] [li]power is handed over to Jonathan[/li] [li]Jonathan meets with american diplomat jonnie carson on first day of handover[/li] [li]Jonathan sacks head of BPE ( organisation which is overseeing privatisation of major public sector services in nigeria)[/li] [li]Jonathan launches investigation into award of $2.5b purchase of nitel by chinese consortium[/li] [li]Jonthan looks set to revoke award of nitel contract to china - second preferred bidder possibly british or american [/li] [li]Yaradua still MIA (missing in action), to date, [/li] is it me or is there something not quite right about the above sequence of events (by the way this a summary and it does not present the full picture) the reason i say this is because the americans and the british have a well documented history of orchestrating and fomenting societal breakdowns, counter revolutionary movements, toppling of govts whose economic policies clash with their own economic interests, sponsoring of violent overthrows - the list of countries that this has happened in are endless - here are a few: indonesia, nicaragua, panama, the congo, haiti, sudan, somalia, pakistan, iraq i cant go into the history - but please read up and you will see that the americans tend to use a specific pattern when they want to topple a govt which is regarded as "unfriendly" to their economic interests: sponsoring of riots by paid stooges and agents or anyother groups sympathetic to their cause - remember what happened in Jos - the fulani herdsmen who somehow were able to storm into a village in plateau state despite the fact that the army had been put on alert to their imminent arrival - to me that looks like the nigerian army either were working in collaboration with these agents or were deliberately told to stand down by an external body possibly the CIA. use of propaganda where the western media continuosly demonises and caricatures the object of their attack in order to discredit and bring into disrepute the reputation of that person/country - notice the vast propaganda campaign that has suddenly sprung up in britain in the last couple of weeks about senseless killings in nigeria (channel 4 and daily mail) the corruption of nigeria's leaders (bbc2 , oil and blood) all of this is deliberate it is designed to garner support from the british public in order to justify any proposed military intervention on the part of britain or america on "humanitarian grounds". |
the daily mail is known throughout britain as being an anti immigration, racist newspaper - its readers are mainly narrow minded middle class english people who have a morbid and irrational hatred of foreigners, ever since i got to understand the power and agenda of the western media i always question the motives behind the stories they publish. why has Jos which has been known for being a peaceful town where christians and muslims have lived peacefully alongside each other for years decided to implode at this point in time - i went to school in Jos and throughout the 4 years i was there i never experienced any form of inter ethnic conflict - so why now? Also why is the west clamouring for the division of nigeria - what do they stand to gain from all of this Are these inter ethnic conflicts being manipulated and controlled by external forces - why are people like Peter Oborne - a staunch right wing racist and supporter of the white racist farmers in Zimbabwe suddenly talking about Rwanda style genocide in Nigeria, i wish someone could provide answers to some of these questions. |
I agree with the poster evil666 we as citizens of nigeria deserve to know the exact circumstances surrounding Yaradua's health , the fact that he has not been publicly seen since his arrival in the country on 24 February should be raising alarm bells in everyones mind, but as usual we cant tell when we're being bamboozled and prefer to let others do the thinking for us. Many questions around Yaradua's disappearrance remain unanswered and i find it mindboggling that some nigerians think this is normal. If his medical team are not permitted to disclose his medical records on the grounds of patient confidentiality how about allowing the media access to wherever it is he is recuperating in order to confirm that he is actually still alive. Even when there was an assassination attempt on former american president ronald reagan the american public were given a blow by blow account of the state of his health. I think it shows a gross lack of regard for the nigerian populace to keep us in the dark as to the condition of our president's health. |
good timing - the new administration under Goodluck Jonathan must have done something right - like cancel all trade agreements to china and award all the oil contracts and privatisation contracts to british and american companies. this war on terror blackmail thing really works!!! its a bit coincidental how the US has decided to reverse this 14 nation screening list and replace it with one which focuses on people who fit certain profiles at around the same time that Jonathan has decided to launch an investigation into the ongoing privatisation of the nitel contract which was awarded to a chinese consortium - is it me or is the nigerian govt coincidentally doing a lot of things that seem to be favouring the US and britain? |
watched part 2 and started to see a few irritating things ie casting of south africans with very obvious south african accents in the role of nigerians - i know whites think that all africans look and sound alike but would it be asking for too much to expect the director to either cast nigerians with nigerian accents in the relevant roles or at least get voice coaches for the british/south african ones so that they can sound halfway beleivable as nigerians. This is a bit like producing a film about the Biafran war and casting a nigerian with a hausa accent in the role of Ojukwu, this is what happens when foreigners tell your story on your behalf. I agree with earlier posters, these are the sort of topics nollywood should be tackling but instead they choose to go down the route of mundane trash, perhaps they're terrified of receiving late night visits from the nigerian SSS. Alice's (the oil company spokesperson) sudden transformation after listening to some speeches by Tobodo - not very beleivable , it takes a lot more than a radical militant speech to dislodge years of mental slavery - ive come across a few Alice's in my time and many of them actually think they are english despite having nigerian parents. The Alice's of this world are actually content to turn a blind eye to the atrocities being committed against their own people as long as their own comfortable middle class lifestyles remain secure. I just cant see someone who came from her background making such a spectacular u-turn on years of indoctrination instilled by a white supremacist system. You only have to look at the way she reacted when she was told the truth about how her father made his money to see just how far removed from reality she is, she sees the world through the eyes of a white woman, she was trained to relate more to whites not her own people- she reminded me of Condoleeza Rice. I am a bit puzzled as to why the BBC well known for being a govt controlled agency have aired this drama, as the british govt are the architects of the problem we have in nigeria today, they masterminded the handover of power to the northern oligarchy after independence, they armed and financed the nigerians against the Biafrans in order to retain their grasp on the oil fields in the delta and they ensured that this oligarchy remain in power irrespective of how corrupt they were as long as britain's economic interests were served, therefore i wonder why they would want to expose their partners in crime. After all it was Shell who were behind the killing of Ken Saro Wiwa and other Ogoni people because they did not want anything to stand in the way of the billions of dollars in oil revenue which they were making at the expense of the nigerian people. It was also Shell who financed the massive procurement of arms from britain, israel , america and other predators to crush militant groups in the region, the british and american govts (in collaboration with the oil companies) have even provided the nigerian govt with millions of dollars of loans to buy helicopter gunships, unmanned drones, guns, you name it they've supplied it - for the sole purpose of crushing any group who decides to stop the pillage and plunder. Just like the De Beers diamond company who worked hand in hand with the aparthied govt of south africa in order to retain the status quo, Shell also works hand in hand with the corrupt nigerian govt to ensure that the nigerian people never benefit from the huge wealth that is generated from the oil revenue. I also think that they have zero respect for africans because, how do you explain the environmental devastation in the delta ?- would Shell dream of causing this same environmental devastation and pollution in saudi arabia, kuwait, qatar or bahrain, why the racist double standards? Its funny how they keep quoting how much money has been squandered by the nigerian govt from oil revenue - but how about the billions of dollars Shell has made from the niger delta in over 50 years of relentless exploitation, when you think of what they've made and compare this to the deplorable state of the niger delta towns what you see makes you want to weep. So why are the BBC being allowed to broadcast a film which is so critical of the nigerian govt ?- i think that perhaps the british may have fallen out of love with the nigerian oligarchy over oil licencing - i hear China were offering more money for these licences than either the british or americans were prepared to pay, and of course the greedy nigerian govt will always go where they can get more money which would be understandable if only the nigerian people were benefitting from the income as well. My view is that the british are trying to pay the nigerian govt back for stabbing them in the back by trading with China. I think this may be part of a massive smear campaign against the nigerian govt similar to the one the used against Saddam when he decided he wanted to start selling oil to various countries in euros instead of dollars which would have triggered a meltdown of the american economy. I dont think we should be too hasty in showering praise on the BBC/british govt as they do not do things without an economic self serving reason. http://www.essentialaction.org/shell/issues.html |
i thought it was really good, the non nigerian actors all had really dodgy nigerian accents though, perhaps they could have cast a few nollywood actors in some of the roles rather than the black british actors that they used. i enjoyed it though, although im not sure all of it was shot in nigeria. David Oyewole (Tobodo) was brilliant as usual, the lead actress - naomi harris, was acting like a typical brainwashed coconut, totally oblivious to the misery and suffering that shell brings to nigeria but apart from that quite good, looking forward to seeing episode two. |
Beaf:no beaf, one of YOUR biggest problems is that YOU dont understand what a constitution is neither do you understand how one operates: let me help you out: 1(1) of the nigerian constitution (thanks for posting by the way) states the following: This Constitution is supreme and its provisions shall have binding force on the authorities and persons throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 1 (2) The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any persons or group of persons take control of the Government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution. 1 (3) If any other law is inconsistent with the provisions of this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void. can you not see that your above statement is complete garbage - the constitution is NOT merely a set of guidelines it is a set of principles which set out specifically the way in which a nation is to be governed. s 1(1) SPECIFICALLY states that the provisions of the constitution are SUPREME and BINDING on the authorities and persons throughout the federal republic of nigeria, 1(2) goes further to stipulate that no person is to take control of the FGN except in accordance with the provisions of the constitution 1(3) goes on to clarify what should happen if there is any inconsistency between the constitution and any other law basically that the provisions of the constitution shall take precedence. now beaf i know you're not used to abiding by rules and regulations but the true mark of a civilised society is adherence to the rule of law, you cant have it both ways, its either you decide to be a banana republic or you comply with the rule of law, we chose to have a constitution, we cant decide to pick and chose when we want to abide by it. |
Beaf:so how come there is no provision within the constitution giving them the powers to pass a resolution such as the one that they passed transferring power to Jonathan? |
Beaf:i was under the impression that the appointment of jonathan WAS in breach of s 145 of the constitution because power was not transferred by way of a written letter by Yaradua nor was it transferred by way of a declaration by Yaradua's former cabinet - so perhaps Yaradua's cronies have a point. |
^^ I hear u,in addition to all u wrote, to me its also almost ahead of its time if u apply it to todays problems from the title, coffin for head of state, (we all know we are basically waiting for yar aduas coffin) to Obasanjos role in the whole yaradua mess we find ourself to the elder yar adua without whom we wont have this younger one who is so useless anyway They say history repeats itself, for us in Nigeria,we better start creating some good history else we will be stuck with the bad past coming to haunt us again and again
i agree , we're paying the price for our failure to act - here is a song by african american social activist and campaigner sandra isidore - an ex girlfriend of fela's and former black panther who introduced fela to black radical ideology chastising us for failing to listen to some of africa's most progressive thinkers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oJdocv4fxA |
i dont think this song was prophetic it was more a commentary by fela on the condition of nigeria at the time (mid 70's) the song was a critique of the then nigerian head of state - obasanjo and his deputy yaradua, who professed to be devout christians and muslims respectively but were responsible for stealing millions of naira worth of oil revenue from the national treasury - (still happening today), brutally killing and maiming its own citizens (still happening today) sending 1,000 troops to storm fela's house brutally beating, r.a.p.i.n.g and maiming its inhabitants and even killing his own mother by throwing her from a second floor balcony. he also accurately observes the hypocrisy of religion and how it has been used to mentally enslave africans, he describes how the pastors are always well turned out in expensive suits while their congregation can barely eat three square meals a day (still happening in nigeria today) he points out how religion was used as a tool by the white man to make the black man docile and submissive in order for the white man to loot and pillage the continent unchallenged (still happening today) it was a song of the times, i think fela was hoping that his song would create awareness amongst nigerians and force us to rise up against the tyrannical system but unfortunately 30 years later things remain the same following our collective failure as a people to rise up and overthrow the corrupt ruling class. |
@paddylol im not sure what you are trying to prove by posting these pictures of the nigerian military 's capability, can i ask what it is the nigerian military has acheived apart from brutally killing and maimiing its own people? this weaponry that they are parading here has all been bought from the US, britain, israel, germany, russia and many other defence manufacturers, i could understand if our military were actually defending the territorial integrity of nigeria but apart from killing their own citizens all i see is them doing the united states dirty work in liberia, sierra leone, darfur and other places where the US dont want to waste their own soldiers lives, so why pay tribute to a killing machine which is being used to perpetuate corrupt politicians in power? i dont know if you're aware of this but the US and UK are currently financing an ongoing war in the congo again using the same tactic of getting african states to prosecute the war on their behalf (uganda and rwanda) http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=18351 |
i dont know why they are mentioning london - as far as im concerned london is not that great, its congested and soulless - it has one similarity with lagos - the huge gap between how the rich live and how the poor live - for example when you go to elephant and castle, peckham, camberwell or hackney you'll think you are in a third world country but cross the river to chelsea, kensington, fulham or holland park and its like you're in a completely different country in that respect its similar to lagos because the poor and the rich live in completely different worlds, although i must add that poverty is relative, the poor in london are obviously not living in the type of grinding poverty that the poor in lagos are living in. there is no reason why the poor in lagos should have to live in those terrible slums - the money that nigeria generates from oil revenues is enough to provide low cost housing to all of it citizens who need it similar to the council housing that the british govt provides to its own "poor". |
