He was shuttling between different roles and I doubt if he start close to 30 league matches. That's what we have been saying, get a cover to free Pogba and Herrera, get a sharp winger with pace and bags of tricks to disorganize the opposition, then a striker who can finish the plethora of chances created by Pogba and other midfielders, together with lindelof at the back, there is no way we won't challenge for the title.

Is a good box-box hustler? No, he lacks the intensity to operate as one. In fact, I've often noticed a major difference in the way Kante runs all over the pitch and keep up the intensity in the midfield whereas Herrera is a bit subdued in the same role. He would either stay as a marker to a particular opposition player or would just stay back to place himself in better position for interception. Looking at the way he operates, that should make him good for the holding midfielder which he mostly played last season but is he one of the best holding midfielder out there? The answer is still no! Because his ability to build up play and contribute in the control of the midfield is zero!

Hence, I would say he was decent-good for us last season but I would prefer having a better player in the same position for us. If we are to attain a worldclass position, Herrera should only be a squad player!

Tomorrow when he starts putting in excellent performances like Bailly, and you point it out Chelsea fans hailing you now,will dig up your post to mock you. Modric was a bench warmer in his first season at Madrid because he was competing with Ozil in the attacking midfield position, the following season Ancelloti moved him to proper central midfield behind Khedira and he excelled immediately, boom champions league they won, last week they added a third in 4 seasons while Ozil is chilling with 3 FA Cups in the same number of seasons. Herrera is a central midfielder not a defensive midfielder, he only played there because nobody in united could do the job more than him, 25m schnerderlien flopped. That is why we need a tactically stable DM like Fabinho to allow Herrera roam around influencing play the way he should. He can't be participate fully in build up play and midfield control when he is paying close attention to opposition dangermen sniffing them out and shielding our injury-ravaged/make-shift defence.
Modric can afford to, there is Casemeiro. Ramsey schooled Kante and matic in the F A Cup final cos Xhaka covered him. Silva can roam and influence play because he has Fernandino, Busquets was the foot soldier when iniesta and xavi dominated the world in both Barcelona and Spain. Herrera doesn't have that luxury. Get him a Good cover and judge him afterwards.
