Agriculture › Vegetable Farming In South Western Nigeria by CaptainKodak(op): 11:46am On Dec 04, 2024 |
Good day everyone. So, I'm going to be taking you through my success story as a vegetable farmer in Nigeria.
My passion for Agriculture lead me to pursuing an academic degree in Agriculture and as I write, I have a Masters' degree in Agronomy and soil science. I've been into Agriculture since 2015 and I've grown a number of crops and I can tell you I really enjoyed the process. I'm not saying the process has been smooth all through (like most social media farmers will tell you). In fact, the journey has been full of ups and downs. The times when you'll make money from your farm and the times when you'll incur massive debts.
But one thing I can tell you from that is that going through those bad periods will build you up for success. You learn from the experience and your life will never remain the same. What I will be focussing on in this thread is pepper farming.
You probably would have been hearing people saying pepper farming is profitable. Yes, that's true. But you need to have in-depth knowledge of the craft in order to actually make that money from peppers and other vegetables. I've seen people rush in to the business but they immediately rush out due to incurring loss or not making the profit as expected.
So, with my experience in vegetable farming, I'm going to be sharing with you the step-by-step guide on pepper farming, especially during the dry season. Because you should know that dry-season farming fetches you more money because production is low and demand for vegetables are high during this period.
So, for you to tap into this opportunity, you need to have an effective and efficient irrigation system for your farm. I'm not going to talk more about this irrigation system but you should know there are different types of irrigation setup. Some of them are but not limited to surface irrigation, sub surface irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and drip irrigation to mention just a few. And I can tell you that drip irrigation is the best to set up for vegetable farming. Now, I will divert my focuser to the production aspect of vegetables, most especially peppers and share with you the step-by-step guide and update on how I'm doing it.

Agriculture › Re: Drip Tube Irrigation For Sale @ Discounted prices by CaptainKodak(m): 9:53pm On Aug 27, 2022 |
Attit: You better stay away from him. You are buying the emitters separately. For every 1000m drip you buy from him for 30cm spacing, you are buying 3,400 emitters (at least 400 extras for the total emitters you need). Ask him the price of his emitters also. I'm sure it will be 50 to 100 naira. Add that to the cost of the drip which is 212000 naira. And then add other accessories.. that's for just 1000m only.
You better take off. Can you pay for such in this present state?
The boy needs to find the real niche for this kind of drip and do it well...and then give farmers the real price of the 1m drip instead of trying to make abundance from them. How can he say 400m of 1mm drip is 85k. He is not even afraid to write it. Some people are desperately wicked. Seriously...ha ba! I remember when drip first came out, and naira was like 150 to a dollar, they were selling at extremely high price. But when people like me started working with some importers, then, naira went to 350, and still drip them was like 200k cheaper than the previous price. Some of them will even want you to pay before they order from China. Many things were just wrong. I dont know why Nigerians are just greedy. This same attitude is what oil marketers have.
Vegetable farmers, do not ever buy this drip. This is not for you especially if you are doing up to 1 acre.
Mayje if you step doing 1 plot and you really want good quality and you can afford it, fine. Or mayne you want your greenhouse to e solid, then, you van go for it. But seriously, you need to just go for the usual 0.3mm thickness. If you can afford 0.4mm or up to 0.5mm, you are very ok. 0.3mm will last up to 5 years with little damages which you can easily repair.
Do not let this guy confuse you to buying 1mm thickness for veggie. It is a good quality, but not necessary for veggie. 0.3mm is usuable. And if you cant afford 0.3mm, use the normal 0.2mm. Never listen to this guy. He is a seller trying to sell. He doesnt have your own interest of success in his heart. He is just trying to sell. Thanks for the enlightenment. |

Family › Re: Don’t Lose Guard With Your Daughters by CaptainKodak(m): 8:10pm On Apr 17, 2022 |
You, the mother and the father have done well.
But, there's one thing that the community did that is very wrong. How could they be begging the father not to escalate the matter? The matter should reach the police and spread wide and far.
In some way, those people begging the father are harming the environment. Don't they know that there could be another paedophile in their community doing the same thing? The all they are doing is teaching such men to 'wise up' and secretly perpetrate their immoral acts with young girls.
Why are they trying to cover it up? So, if the man had eventually had his way with the girl, would they have kept it a secret like they are trying to do? Or if this thing happens to their own child, would they have kept mum?
We have to expose immorality and make perpetrators pay for their sins, whether they are successful at it or they tried and failed. |
Education › Re: My project supervisor wants to take credit for my research work by CaptainKodak(m): 7:38pm On Oct 25, 2021 |
Dont ale a fuss out of this. As long as she credits you, of course, by including you as one of the authors. S/he would be the corresponding author and only her/his details would be there. Remember you don't have the authority to do a research and publish it. It can only be done by a professional. But don't worry now, you'lld do the same if you also become an academic (probably a senior lecturer or a prof?, so, relax, s/he's not stealing your work. Less I forgot, well done for doing a great work that your supervisor wants to publish it. Not many students' work get published by their supervisor in Nigeria. Most of them end up as puff puff and akara papers. hilltop007: My final year project supervisor called me to summarize my research work of 2 years for publication. He sent me a copy of one of his ex-student work that he published. It was only his ex student who did the work with guidance from my supervisor, but the published paper has two authors; my supervisor (main author) and his ex student. Only my supervisor's contact was also in the paper.
I strongly believe that's what he will also do with mine. Should I give him the go ahead? If I don't publish it, it will probably rot. Or is there a way for me to publish it myself? |

Agriculture › Re: Snail Greenhouse Construction by CaptainKodak(m): 11:11am On Jan 28, 2020 |
Jacobsontwelve: We construct green houses for snail farming, either on one plot (100 by 50ft) two plots and above,we also stock snails for those who want to go commercial ln snail farming. The advantages of this system over the pen system are 1) it gives more than enough room for the snails to roam about freely thereby Increasing their productivity, because snails hate obstacles, it accommodates a larger population so as to get maximum output from your snails
2) it is a very ideal way for those who want to Target the export market to sell their snails, the system is more like a synthetic wild providing the snails with a natural environment in a confined area
3) it's easier to manage waste and it's fully automated
4) it gives room for different opportunities such as organising live seminars within the farm to train prospective snail farmers etc
5) it's more appealing for international investors . etc
For more enquiries kindly call or chat on WhatsApp. 08174009857 Please send you quote for only the greenhouse to me at Bunyameentunde@gmail.com |

Just ponder on what he said “Believe me, many more people will see this selfie than will hear this speech.” Many people in this generation people will not listen to his speech but majority will see the picture, whearas, the speech is more important. People will rather use their data to dload movies, songs and the likes but to use it to watch TedX and the likes? |
