Politics / Re: Southerners Erroneously Think The North Is Dependent On The South - Ben Bruce by carboblanko(m): 4:52pm On Mar 14, 2016

The social media senator himself.

However, I agree with him. The south believes because oil comes from the south and Nigeria depends on oil, the north is dependent on them.

Fact is, the average northerner does not even benefit from oil money, they mostly live off agriculture, business and menial jobs.

The so called southerners who claim to be feeding the nation have no input whatsoever to the economy other than the fact that the resources were naturally deposited in their region.
The problem with some of our southern kin is that they do not take time out to educate themselves about the other parts of their country.Stereotyping other Nigerians without even getting to know them is really ignorant and does no justice to so called educated and enlightened people. So sad.

Though the one i want to buy is with two door.

What exactly are your expectations as regards convictions?

That 20 cases only started in a 9months administration would have attained conviction status?

Buhari is being blamed by your ilk for even daring to prosecute the calibre of accused presently undergoing trial, terming him a dictator. Yet you still blame him for allowing the law courts undergo the legitimate judicial process in arriving at justice?

I ask again, has the government lost any of the corruption cases in court?

Where is your conscience you wretched enemy of the state?
You even get time to answer those mischievous idiots. They are part of the reason why we are in this mess. They are the ones that encourage the impunity that was the norm in the past because of the peanuts thrown at them. They are now a breed heading for extinction.

Osinbajo said no new road was built by the Jonathan administration and you are here yapping about dualization. If you and Doyin Okupe disagree with Osinbajo, why not list at least 1 new road constructed by the Jonathan administration.
Even the so called dualization of the Gwagalada road is still not completed despite the billions of naira budgeted on it. The VP spoke the facts but as usual some mischievous folks like Mr Okupe and his ilk will come out and make malicious rants without any facts to back up their claims.

The issue is.....we are not earning money from oil.....so we have tolook for alterante sources of funding.

Modified.....I am really amused by some of the comments calling this extortion.Well.....here are some facts.

1.When the law was being processed in the National Assembly.....you Nigerians were busy with your videos of the latest scandal to pay attention.

2.Oil is our only source of revenue. The price has fallen. Meanwhile....you people want govt to continue feeding you....without paying. How can?

Nigerians want everything for free. Unfortunately the days of free oil money are over and we now have to take taxation seriously. The good thing is that now that we pay taxes, we will begin to demand and insist on accountability from those in government.

Brace for tougher times ahead, Okonjo-Iweala tells Nigerians -NOV 2014

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/171145-brace-tougher-times-ahead-okonjo-iweala-tells-nigerians.html

THE AIM OF DIGGING UP THIS ARTICLE:

Pleae note: Madam Okonjor made this assertions in November 2014.

1. This is to remind the Wailing Wailers who keep attacking the current minister of Finance that the ex Finance Minister whom they so much believe in and whom they believe would have been a messiah sounded the alarm of a very tough economy ahead even when oil was still as high as 76usd per barrel. Do I need to remind anyone the price of oil per barrel now?

2. The ex Minister of Finance only saw a need to block revenue leakages when Oil prices started dropping low. Was any action taken after her suggestion? No!!! Rather, despite the dwindling oil prices, CBN became am ATM to allies of the president, where raw Dollars/Naira where withdrawn/tansferred under the guise of phantom projects, bogus subsidy claims, arms procurements. Etc. Now we are suffering of dollar crunch.

Who came on board to block the leakages? The new Sheriff off course, President Buhari.

3. If at $76/per barrel, Madam Okonjor was already ringing bells, why do the Wailing Wailers expect a booming economy from a government which is less than a year in office, and currently selling oil at $28 per barrel? Rather than wailing, they should rather support the government in steps taken to move Nigeria forward.

4. Madam Okonjor needs to explain to Nigerians why Nigeria was not saving for the dry season when oil was sold well above $100 per barrel. What happened to all the revenues generated when oil was booming? We only had booming economy on papers, ordinary Nigerians never felt a booming economy under her watch.

To the Wailing Wailers:

President Buhari have succeeded in blocking a lot of revenue leakages, and is driving seriously for non oil revenue generations as it is evident in the changes made in the Nigeria Customs, FIRS, and the appointment of learned scholar Dr. kayode Fayemi as the minister of Solid minerals.Etc

We have also seen efforts to recover stolen money even though some term it political witch hunting. The almost dead EFCC whose duty was reduced to chasing Internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys have suddenly rosen up to their responsibilities. Fraudsters like Olisah Metuh, Dansuki and the likes are already feeling the heat.

Efforts to recover stollen money is also a form of blocking revenue leakages.

The fact remains that APC led government can not correct the 16 years rot of PDP in less than a year and it is illogical to blame the current economic woes on the newly elected president. Only the blind will not see President Buhari is really working to make Nigeria great again.

SO FAR SO GOOD, PRESIDENT BUHARI IS PERFORMING ECONOMICMIRACLES AS HE HAS NOT BORROWED TO PAY ANY SALARIES

God bless the Federal Rubublic of Nigeria

NB: I am a die hard APC supporter with No Apologies!!!!
Thank you for refreshing our memories . The problem with some of us is that we have short memories. It makes no sense to blame the current economic crisis on the current administration without looking into the policies of the last one. But some myopic folks would not see this.

Politics / Re: "The Economist" Accuses Buhari Of Worsening Nigeria's Economy by carboblanko(m): 8:52am On Jan 29, 2016
Wallade:
Devaluation of currency can impact the economy positively in a case whereby the country is productive, this stimulates exports and improves the balance of payment in favor of Nigeria.
Nigeria is highly import driven, we manufacture few products which can't even meet local demand and international standards in most cases.

I have a teaser question for you all that are asking the government to devalue the currency: How does currency devaluation impact the economy positively and translate into positive BOP for Nigeria?
You guys are only advocating devaluation to meet a short term need for FOREX and capital inflow. Mind you, the bulk of the capital inflow you will get from foreign investors will be working capital inflow. If the foreign investors are so keen on the Nigerian market, they should invest in production and manufacturing plants, human capital development and skill acquisition to enable complete production of goods and services locally for the local and export to international market.

Imports restrictions and bans is one of the measures to compel Nigerians to produce local goods and services to meet local demand at least and perhaps export to international market. With time, local manufacturers will perfect the production and meet international standards to ensure acceptability of Nigerian made goods in international markets, especially highly standardized markets.

You may be surprised that I believe in these policies introduced by the government. The only problem I have is with the CBN governor going back and forth on some policies thus giving the impression that it isn't decisive, well informed and planned.

God help Nigeria.
Spot on. And the hard part is to curb our appetite for frivolous imports. Can you imagine that we were once the second highest consumers of expensive champagne in the world? Is that not insane for a country that produces almost nothing? Now reality has set in. And you are right. Why are the so called foreign investors not putting their money in the real sector like manufacturing and agriculture? The would rather invest for quick returns that add no value to the economy.

And like I said, it's up to us to clean up our house and formulate the best economic and financial policies for us, not the portfolio investors with zero care for us and our welfare..

Portfolio investors crying all over the place because they want to make a quick buck, but who cares, physical investors are still entering Nigeria and setting up shops daily and creating jobs.

Procter and gamble, the world's largest manufacturer of consumer products just expanded into Lagos with another huge manufacturing plant, this is there 3 plant after Ogun and Oyo state plants and many more are making the same moves. This is the economic power of 150 million people. This is what we need, not portfolio investors and currency speculators.

We are not under any kind of illusion that things are going to be rosy within a year or even 2 after the rot, pillage and decay we just suffered in the last 16 years and in particular, the last 5 years..

We survive when oil was selling for less so what's your point.
Many folks are still in denial. We were living a lie when crude was selling above $100. We became net importers of all sorts of frivolous goods like champagne. Most of the so called foreign investors took advantage of our recklessness and indiscipline and made a killing by investing in quick returns ventures that did not add much value to the economy. Now crude has crashed and the party is over. The reality is that tough decisions have to be made now. We need to curb our appetite for unnecessary imported goods and work hard to produce locally. Things would get tougher now but will improve in the long run. That is the price we have to pay for our recklessness.

There's a different between strong government and a weak one. I will not expect Buhari to audit/investigate the administrations years away from his. I think it's only right for him to audit the immediate one before him. Others would have done the same if they were not corrupt. If you remember, he did the same when he came to power with the Shagari's administration. So, asking him why he is not probing Babangida, Abacha, Abdusalam, Obasanjo, Yardua's administration. Let him start from the immediate pass government, and let the next government be preparing to probe him too when he leaves office.

So you as a person will send someone message with your money and you won't bother to find out if he delivered the message or not?

Jonathan was the commander in chief. He approved the money for arms deal. And he didn't bother to check if the arms were ever purchased.

Sentiments apart please. This is very wrong. I'm apolitical. But that doesn't mean I should not say the truth when I see 1. Because I love my country.

What exactly was the former finance/coordinating minister of the country "coordinating"? With all these revelations its obvious that that woman was not ontop of anything. How can NIMASA be running as a bureau de change Okonjo didn't do anything about it?

First it was Dasuki collecting money from CBN and misappropriating it without the coordinating minister of the economy's knowledge or intervention. Now it's a government agency whose function is purely maritime related is now operating as a bureau de change. And some people will still tell me that Okonjo-Iwaela was ontop of her game.
It really baffles me when some folks come out to defend Okonjo Iwela even after all these revelations. What was she coordinating when even the most elementary of fiscal regulations were brazenly flouted under her watch. Makes me believe that she was either incompetent or complicit.
