Change your compressor to the original spec and avoid welding of any of the pressure pipes. Also make sure that your ac guy does not fill with more than 2 cans of gas or 2 1/2 cans. Car-Doctor. |
@ OP You haven't specified what model of car or engine/ gearbox specification. Car-doctor. |
CHIMCO: I finally took my car to gearman mechanic. After repairs, i notice that every morning the car wont reverse. If i engeged R it will be as if it is still on P. If it heats up during the day it will become normal. Also the gear changes with heavy force. I took it back to him during the day and it was working fine, he promised that it will normalized. I used 7 Ltrs of Holts Atf on it.Normalize ke. I doubt that. If the gearbox was competently repaired , you won't have reverse not working or aggressive gear changes. I still believe that he left some things out cos if you carry out a tranny ovehaul properly it should work properly. Seems like you might soon be needing a transmission replacement and Holts ATF is not the best for your car. Car-doctor. |

Gilbus1: My Honda baby boy is having a serious gear problem(automatic gear). It hardly moves abd if it does it will cease and jerk up. I'm in Warri, Delta state, I need a good mechanic that can fix it. If you can please contact me immediately. Gilbertwoma@yahoo.com.Read this link first. At least it throws more light on what may be related to your issues. https://www.nairaland.com/1364064/honda-automatic-gearbox-problems Car-Doctor. |
osundu: Pls wats de best gear oil for honda accord 2007 four cylinder?Use ATF Z1 cos they are the ones manufactured for Honda cars 1998-2010. Make sure you flush out the old oil properly before replacing. |

nissparts: Assumption car-doctor, @ OP, just ran out of stock but you can call 08035559999. He has the spray versionJust simply say you have it. At least now I know. |
bhurlarh: Okay, its a 3.5L V6 SE(I thought all maximas come in 3.5L V6) buh by lock I mean it sometimes get stuck in "Park" and wouldn't shift to "Drive" except I press the shift lock button. Even going from Drive to Reverse requires pressing the shift lock button. Happened earlier and my mechanic said it was an electrical fault, he fixed it and it worked well briefly, now it would work sometimes, other times, it won't.Check your brake light switch which is on the brake pedal and see if its ok as you will always have to depress the brake pedal to shift from Park to Reverse and Neutral to Reverse and then into Park again. Also check the shift lock solenoid. Its a safety device controlled by the brake switch and if not working properly, you may be having the difficulties that you just complained about. Car-Doctor. |
JaaizTech: Your post is consistent with what I have read on many auto sites. I would like you to shed a bit more light on why the fuel injector cleaner, seemed to solve my P0420 code problem, and also if you may advice on what one can do to protect one's car from harm due to poor fuel quality.A P0420 code may throw up if your injector nozzles are clogged up with carbon deposits or residue from excessive use of fake injector cleaners as well as faulty injectors with poor spray pressure. In your case, it seems more like clogged up injector nozzles delivering poor fuel spray and increasing the nitrogen oxide content of your exhaust emission. Once the oxygen sensors pick up a high volume of N0x, it will pop up the code and switch your check engine light or mil on. Obviously, the injector cleaner did the job of de-clogging your nozzles hence the improved performance of the nozzle spray and the catalytic inefficiency codes not coming up. The issue of protecting your car from bad fuel remains a matter of personal concern to any car owner by making sure they buy fuel from reliable filling stations and checking the colour of the fuel. If its deep red in colour, avoid it as it most likely will be leaded fuel. Unleaded fuel is usually yellowish in colour. That's what's best for most modern Cars manufactured from the year 1995 onward. |
chikasin4: Thereare a numberof thingsthatcouldbe causingthisp0420 catalyst efficiencycode. The mostcommonthingis the catalytic converteritselfis no longer functioningproperly. The other likely thingis the rear O2 (oxygen) sensoris no longer workingproperly. Other thingscouldincludeexhaustleaks, damagedexhaustpipes, damagedO2 sensorwiring/connectors,pluggedcatalyticconverter.Seems like your cat has been gutted out and I have seen this a lot of times. Remove it and check first. |
matson: Car doc, no mod as been done on the car. Never hard any problem from fuel bump. Will Have ur suggestion on the list to look at. Thanks.Have a look into your fuel tank. I'm sure you will find something interesting. |
matson: I won't rule out the faulty gauge completely, but the third time it happened, I had way more gas as displayed by the indicator than the previous times. I'd do a full tank in the morning. Thanks for your contribution. From the sound of things, it seems you have had a lot of tampering and modifications done to your fuel pump and guage. Most of this kind of issues I have encountered have been as a result of one mechanic or rewire trying to adapt the fuel pump with another type and then in the process wrong fitting and in adequate pump pressure becomes an issue. Also check to see if the suction line to the fuel pump in the tank is reaching the bottom as sometimes the suction line bends upwards leaving the fuel at quater level and below inaccessible. Recently at my workshop, a 2007 BMW 320i came in with a similar problem. We eventually changed the fuel pump to the original and that solved the problem. Car-Doctor. |
I rest my case. |
chuqudy: My friend, I think you should use your brain more. For your information, Nairaland is a lecture room. People are here to learn. I have learnt from lomomike. From his description, Matrix is beter than Murano in Nigerian roads and Murano does not have a second hand value. QEDAfter all this, I have finally come to the conclusion that you may have forgotten to take your medications and your personal message of "Divided we stand and united we fall" confirms this. Yes, Nairaland may be your lecture room and you, a student. So learn from the advice people are giving to you about the way your thread is posted. If you are not a lecturer here, I would also advice you to stop marking peoples responses as this in not an exam hall. Thank you. Next thread you will be posting may be "Toyota matrix and Peugeot 504. Which one is better?" ![]() |
Nice one Bellong. Its high time we start exposing this crooked car sellers. |
We know who offers the best oven bake respray in abuja at the most reasonable prices. They do a superb job. Contact me if you want testimonials. Car-Doctor. |
Ask Sienna to get it for you if you are serious because you won't find it anywhere in Nigeria. |
Why ring the engine? You could easily pick up a low mileage engine for that car for less than 40k and save yourself all the wahala of incompetent mechanics and fake parts. Your old scrap engine could still fetch about 7k from scrap iron dealers. Car-doctor. |
Its a special adaptor for filling your car with LPG. Obviously, your car had been fitted with an lpg tank (usually found in the boot or space originally reserved for your spare tyre) thus making your car a Dual Fuel car. If you can't find the gas tank then it may have been removed when the car was shipped to Nigeria as there are very few places where you can refill with lpg here. Its usually a cheaper option of fuel and more environmentally friendly to the ozone layer and your engine but we here in Nigeria have not caught up yet with this technology. What a shame. In countries where lpg is available for car use, your insurance premium will be lower and apart from being exempt from paying car taxes or annual licensing, you may also be exempt from paying congestion charges. Its nothing to worry about as I'm sure your car has been reverted to running with gasoline. Car-Doctor. |
nissparts: Whatever you say dudeWhatever I say? Its not my theory. You can always look it up. |
@Nissparts No, you learn. The oxygen sensors detect the level of oxygen in the nitrogen oxide emission of vehicles. The catalytic converter breaks down the mole ules in the nitrogen oxide to make the vehicles emissions less toxic and also help to reduce smog. Most cat codes here in nigeria are caused by poorly refined fuel or leaded fuel fuel being used on modern cars with advanced emission monitoring components such as the oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, MAF or MAP sensors, Evap etc. Once contaminated fuel or unleaded fuel is used on modern cars you run the risk of damaging the oxygen sensors that's why there is always a warning on your fuel tank cover to make sure you fill your car with unleaded fuel. The reason why you are advised to do so is because the oxygen sensors are designed to work with higher octane rated fuel like unleaded RON 95/97. In Nigeria, there are no standards for measuring the fuel you purchase at the petrol station because there is no indication on what you are buying so fuel dealers sell the fuels without any indicated ratings. In most othercountries of the world, fuel RON (Research Octane Number) ratings are indicated on the pumps at the petrol stations so that you can make the choice for your car. Using low octane or lead added petrol will sooner or later damage your oxygen sensors and cat as well as possibly ruining your engine. The leaded fuel is that deep red fuel that you will usually only get to see when poured into a container. Unleaded fuel is usually yellowish in colour. Catalytic converters Don't usually or easily get damaged unless carbon deposits have built up in the catalytic converter to the point of clogging it up and rendering it incapable of carrying out its filteration duties. It can als get damaged due to excessive temperatures burning it out as raw fuel is deposited into the exhaust system or the honeycomb ceramic structure breaking away. Raw fuel deposits into the exhaust manifold is mostly caused by faulty injectors, ECU, MAF sensor or oxygen sensors. If any of these components are faulty, a higher rate of nitrogen oxide emission will be indicated hence the enission related obd codes popping up. I am an ATA ACCREDITED MASTER TECHNICIAN and I have resolved uncountable issues even in the UK where I had studied, worked andlived for over 16 years before returning to Nigeria. I also owned and operated an auto workshop with a MOT station. Emission related issues are taken seriously in the UK as well as other developed countries of the world and in the UK we have to ensure that vehicles pass emission tests before a certificate is given. I face these challenges on a daily basis and I think I should be the one who informs you better on what to do. Always start by scanning and checking the voltage fluctuations on your oxygen sensors. If the voltage readout is ok, check other related components and examine your cat if all else is ok. Only change a cat when its physically damaged or clogged up with carbon. Washing or cleaning usually restores its functions back but let changing it be your last option as they can be very expensive to purchase while the main problem is still underlying. |
nissparts: If you have a catalyst code and you replace an o2 sensor, 99% of the time you would have wasted your moneyNot true. I had an Acura MDX that came to my workshop yesterday with the same code issue and once we replaced the o2 sensor the check engine light went permanently off and the code never came up again. Car-Doctor. |
JaaizTech: To the best of my knowledge it is the back O2 sensor that signals that error code. From all i have read it is either ur O2 sensors are bad or the CAT is bad, on many American online fora, u re advised to change O2 sensors first because they are cheaper and easier to fix.You are absolutely spot on. To the best of my knowledge, most p0420 code issues that I have encountered have been cured by replacing the oxygen sensors. Try that first before changing your cat. Also check for proper contact at the connectors. Car-Doctor. |
Syenite: Please my nairaland Auto experts.Security system expiring? Never heard of that before. This your mechanic must be a crook. Anyway, what you just described seems like an electrical problem. Get a competent auto electrician to check the electrical connections to your cars fuse box and ecu aka brainbox. He should also check for loose connections in the engine bay as well as the engine itself and gearbox. Also have him check that there are proper earth connections from the negative terminal of your car battery to the chassis and body as these can get rusty and inhibit full earth/negative contact. If rusty, have the contact serfaces sand-papered and tigthtened back. I fixed a similar problem with a 2001 model of the same car that was brought to my workshop some months back and these solutions cured the problem. Car-Doctor |

Everybody is just throwing in their opinions wether valid or not. The simplest thing to start with based on op's posted query is to listen in to the engine after switching off to hear if water is boiling when the engine is hot. If its boiling after stopping, then maybe there is an issue. Its normal for engines to get quite hot and temperature remains constant even when all is well I.e fans working, thermostat ok, enough coolant in system etc. I had a customer come into the workshop this week with an Acura MDX that has had the cooling fan "permanented" due to the fact that he believes the engine was abnormally hot and the fan was not coming on immediately he turns the ignition on. Well, I had to replace the relay and reconnect the fan to its original operating method which is by allowing the thermostat to do its job and the fan switch taking instructions from the temperature sensor. I then explained the real operational protocol of the cooling system to him and tested the car to prove that the fan comes on only when the temperature reaches its switching on point or when the ac is switched on. @op. You may not necessarily have any issues with your car and I believe its just mere paranoia but check to hear if your engine is boiling after stopping. |
chuqudy: So this is what you will answer in exam when you are asked to compare 2 things that are used for the same purpose but with different features. Even if it is Nokia 3310 and Samsung galaxy, there is a similarity. They are phones. One has camera while the other has not. One is costlier than the other. One lasts longer than the other. And so on. The replys I am getting here are ridiculous and shows the poor level of understanding of simple use of English and logic. My friend, use your brain. The heading of the topic on this thread does not show any semblece of intellect. You might as well have made it a comparism between an ostrich and a pidgeon. Be more specific in what areas of interests that concern your query and avoid marking people's responses. This is not a lecture room and nobody is here to sit your english exams. Enough said so please Don't turn this into an argument forum. |
Ikenna351: You are still making the same mistake.Very funny Ikenna and straight to the point. I wonder why people post threads like this. |
kenmaro: If one mistakenly add about half litre(i.e 500ml) of abro atf to an 8litre capacity transmission filled with dextron 6 atf, will it have any negative to the transmission? Pls, note that the 500ml of abro is just a little quantity.Abro ATF I believe can only work best with power steerings and not modern automatic gearboxes. I have stopped using them for gearboxes in my workshop but most people still do because its cheaper than manufacturer recommended ATF. Before I came to realise this, previous transmission oil additions or transmission flush using abro ATF resulted in catastrophic consequences because it cannot handle the higher temperatures and pressures of the design of most modern gearboxes. |
osundu: Pls is total ATF good for honda accord(DC)2007?if nt wats de best ATF for it gearbox?tanksYou better use Honda's ATF-Z1. That's the special tranny fluid formulated by Honda for their cars manufactured from 1998-2010. From my own personal experience with honda automatic gearboxes, using the wrong transmission fluid will always result into a failed transmission. Please follow my thread on Nairaland Auto Talk with the heading of Honda automatic gearbox problems. |
zylla: Car Doctor, You are doing a yo mans' job here. Please where can I get the ATF-z1 to buy and like how much will it cost?Atf-z1 is getting quite popular now as more nd more people are realising that that's what the manufacturer recommends for honda cars and I'm also sure that lots of lessons have been learnt from using the wrong transmission fluids on tha Hondas. My workshop is in abuja and I get my suppllies from reliable stockists that specialise in honda original spare parts. If you are in abuja, you can try gudu market but you also need to beware of fakes that people are trying to sell as the real thing. Original ATF-Z1 retails for around 2k. |
