Aba, car-doctor, it isnt a silly question na, this guy is looking for info na.
Lol but I still think I answered him correctly. Its just that the question lacks intellect. |
You have essentially knocked him on the head just by giving him the eye. Thing is that he may not even give a damn and go on to repeat it again as he drives along. Kinds makes you feel better though. |
Simply beautiful. |
thaqib: Siena, thanks. Just apprehensive. because it started moving later when d temp rose( I tink after I put on d a/c.The cooling fan doesn't have to move only when the ac is switched on. Just as sienna has explained, the fan will automaticaly comes on when the engine temperature reaches the set temperature parameter for the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) to instruct the fan to start its cooling operation. That is the way its designed to operate. Most people in Nigeria are so convinced that the fan should come on immediately the ignition is switched on but that's wrong. Try this. Start your car engine and allow it time warm up and eventually get hot. You will notice that the fan will come on eventually and after a while, go off again. The cycle repeats itself continuosly until you either switch on the ac as that requires constant operation of the fan, or you switch off the engine. There are enough threads on NL car talk section where this has been comprehensively explained. Just leave it the way it is or else you may be in for serious consequences. Car-Doctor. |
Dinobenson: i got almost similar problem, but in my case,i gave my car to a friend.it's like something pull out the gear box/transmission oil supply pipe under the car.so,almost all the oil leaked out.that caused the car not to move.pls what can i do to salvage this? This would require a physical examination of the engine bay as well as its underneath. Pls get your mechanic to have a look and identify any location where oil may be leaking from. Car-Doctor. |
9icetoo: I was going thru some car write ups on the internet and something occured to me. Fuel pump efficiency and pressure drops after some years and the pump power reduces. This means the fuel pressure getting to the fuel rail and injectors is greatly reduced over time and as such the injectors don't get to properly atomise the fuel spray reducing efficiency and power. My question now is,What's all this musing about? Could you please explain what's wrong with your car? Car-Doctor. |
sam1dot2: It started like four days ago. If I start my car (Camry 2000 model) every morning a lot of white smoke comes out and after a while (1 - 2 minutes) gets less but still little steam like smoke, clear when the engine gets hot/heats up. Also if the engine cools after parking for hours it happens. Is my engine having issues any help to stop the smoke is highly welcomed. All of the above opinions could probably be correct but try driving your car along with someone folowing you from behind when the car is warm and the smoke/ steam has stopped and let them observe to see if there is smoke coming from your exhaust when you accelerate. If it does, then you may have weak engine valve seals or piston rings on the way out. Car-Doctor. |
chuqudy: Pls. What is the highest mileage at which a car may not be moveable again? As long as you are able to be alive to keep moving it. What a silly question. Car-Doctor. |
Everfrank: I decide to change my Toyota Condor's 5L diesel engine with a tokunbo one. I have located a very clean one but with automatic injector- mine is manual injector. Can it be fixed on my car together with the automatic injector or must It be replaced with my old manual injector? Which option is better. Please I need advise. Its possible but you may have to change the entire engine loom, wiring harnesses related to engine operation as well as the ecm. Quite frankly, it may not be an economical move. From the look of things, your original engine is fitted with a normal compression ignition engine with a mechanical fuel pump utilizing mechanical diesel injector nozzles while the new engine you being presented is Direct Electronic Injection diesel engine with high pressure electronic injectors. The new generation diesels require two diesel electric pumps.one in the tank called primary and a secondary one in the engine bay to maintain maximum pressure to a distributtor on the engine that pumps to a high pressure fuel rail with regulator attached. All these are controled by a complex network of electronic components such as camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors as well as the control module for acurate and optimum fuel injection into the combustion chambers. I would still advise that you replace with exact engine type. Car-Doctor. |
JUO: my clutch pedal keep going flat every morning. i have changed upper clutch twice, that did not solve the problem. i have to pump the clutch before it will work but will go down the next morning. what could be wrong? the car is vw passat gt 1993Hydraulic operations of a car cluth is a straight forward technology. There can only be two things possibly wrong. Either. You have a leaking hydraulic line or seals or you have air in the clutch system. Either way, you must check that the components are not leaking and that the clutch system is properly bled. You must also ensure that the parts fitted are the ones meant for the vehicle. Are the clutch slave and master cylinders brand new or tokunbo? Car-Doctor. |
Damibanti: Anyone with a Toyota Corolla 2010 ABS actuator (South Africa) spec for sale should please call Dami on 08025877206 or should you know of any salvage yard where I can buy it in Lagos;please feel free to drop your links.ThanksKinda like looking for a needle in a haystack. Have you tried Owode breakers yard on Ikorodu road in Lagos? You might be lucky. Better still, start with Ladipo spare parts market in Mushin. Car-Doctor |
knc: A friend just told me that Honda Autos a cheaper in the Northern part of the country than any other place though Registered. is this true.I really Don't think so. They are more pouplar in the north and that has been so through its history here in Nigeria but can also be quite expensive due to a higher demand for it there. Hondas are now popular all over Nigeria due to its reliability, fuel economy, durability and design but the high price of spare parts have always compromised its status. If you want to buy one, I would advise that you start from the north and work your way down to the south especialy Lagos for cheaper prices. Most buyers of Hondas here in abuja usually travel down to Lagos to strike a cheap deal. Car-Doctor. |
kentzy: Dont mind him marketing people that have nothing to offer.People beware!!!Your Volkswagen Golf 3 just barely was able to limp into our workshop and when a simple diagnostic was suggested, you ran away cos you couldn't afford a 3k scan. You now come here to open your big mouth. If we have nothing to offer, why would people be making recommendations about us here on NL? None of you haters have indicated here that you were dissatisfied with our services. Probably because you are used to quack mechanics fixing your car. That's why you are always here looking for a cheap fix. What a shame. |
smallmoney: the way you market for this people nawa ooooo from ur x5 to your honda, ur cars always have issuesBad belle. |
stagger: First it was your X5. Secondly it was your Honda. Next you will tell us it was your Mercedes. I have passed this place you mentioned and I do not see anything that resembles an auto shop worthy of note. Any good mechanic in a place like Abj will not be lacking customers.@stagger Then you must be blind. You brought your beat up banger Mitsubishi Charisma car here with no money in your pocket for basic diagnosis. We Don't scan or repair cars for free unfortunately but that's no reason why you should post this response. Being a good mechanic does not necessarily mean that every single item in a workshop has to be present. Yes, you may be right but we've fixed cars here that have defied all possible solutions at even the so called big garages and there is a testimony here by another Nlander and many more on other postings that are our loyal and satisfied customers. By the way, Buhari didn't state that we were looking for your custom. We can proudly say that we have numerous satisfied customers and many more coming in by the day. Thank you. Car-Doctor. |
CHIMCO: . I disagree with you in no 4. The rpm always go down even on factory fitted cars.Flexya is correct in his number 4 statement. On factory fitted ac systems, there is usually a compensatory device for stabilising the rpm when the ac is switched on. The device is usually a vacuum operated throttle advance compensator designed to keep the revs at a stable 750-850 rpm. It can also be programmed through the ecu to perform the same function by increasing the rpm to keep a stable idling speed. The ecu identifies that the ac has been switched on and communicates to the electronic stepper motor to advance the rpm in order to compensate for the load from the ac compressor on the engine and regulates the rpm as and when ever the compressor clutch engages. If an ac system is fitted as an after thought on cars with ecu controlled electronic stepper motors, the ecu may have to be re-mapped with the adaptation protocol for idle speed compensation when ac is in operation. Obviously, if these devices are not present, the car engine would not be able to maintain the idle speed rpms. Number 4 is a valid point. Car-Doctor. |
Get the car scanned first and post the results. If you are in abuja, call me on 08162907680 I will help you sort it out. Car-Doctor. |
I smell a big rat here. |
Back in the 90's in the UK where I used to live, someone bumped into my car in a supermarket car park leaving a big dent in the rear door of my Rover car. When I was loading my shopping, I noticed the dent, looked round the rest of the car and found a note on the windscreen. It read thus; "Anyone who see's me doing this will think I'm leaving my name and fone number, but I'm not." I will never forget that. ![]() Car-Doctor. |
Have you ever tried throwing your car into reverse while traveling forward? Its almost as impossible as trying to stop the car with your feet dragging on the floor as brakes. Its not an advisable thing to do when driving an automatic transmission car as first, its almost impossible for you to put the car into reverse if it hasn't come to a complete standstill. Secondly, Most modern automatics come with a shift locking mechanism that stops the selector from being accidentally shifted into reverse from neutral. Forcing it into reverse may not necessarily help but severe damage to your transmission may occur and may not help in stopping in an emergency. The same thing applies in manual gearboxes. Trying to engage reverse gear while the sychcromesh gears are rotating for forward drive is almost impossible even at low speeds. Best advice is to drop your gears to allow the engine to slow you down or gently apply the hand brake. Brake failres rarely occur if you maintan and regularly service your brake components. |
Beautiful works of art. Can I have the three pls? |
We are waiting for you to be the first. |
Ikenna351: I think Admin has already answered your question above.Still sounds like same topics in the car talk section. Seems like I will always have to peep into your bedroom to see what's going on in here. ![]() |
I was called to test drive one last week in Asokoro and check that everything is ok. Meeeeeeennnnnnnn, this car is a dream to drive although its the 3.0 supercharged, the power Is awesome. |

I'm very certain that your gearbox repair guy didn't change the reverse gear coupling fibres. Gearbox may have to come down again. Sorry. Cat-Doctor. |
Old boy: My colleagues car,a toyota camry '99 model jus started a problem,he workd on the gearbox(auto trans), thereafter the gear selects well whether @ all times but he later started noticing dat if he's on speed of say 60km/h and stop accelerating,as d car slows down without matching brake and d gear decendin to 3,2 d car will vibrate until maybe he matches brake and d gear gets back to one,it stops but while accelerating,d gear engages well to all gears normally as it suppose with no issues,no vibration.Get the mechanic that worked on the gearbox to check and re-tighten all the bolts related to the job he had done. On a lot of occassions, the drive shafts may be bad and have play within the cv joints. Have him also check to see if the shaft bearings are ok as well as the bearings in the hub. Also have him make sure that the shaft extension that is bolted to the engine block have all the bolts complete and tightened properly. I have seen shafts that have had bathroom slippers cut and stuffed into the inner cv joint housing in the name of compensating for clearance. Apparently, that's a popular practice by road side mechanics. If everything else is ok, check the engine and gearbox sittings too for any possible damage. Drive the car and see if there is bearing noise coming from within the gearbox as I have also seen gearboxes that have been recently worked on with loose nuts inside creating a lot of clearance on the gearbox bearings.
