One of them told me the car was in jigawa state and wanted me to pay 10k for fuel to deliver. I continued searching and found the same car with the same pictures advertised in abuja. This time different phone number, anonymous name, N1 million less. Very funny. That website should be banned. Avoid them. |
durobraham: Hi Car doctor where exactly is your car shopSee the address below on my personal information bar. |
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately this does not apply in my own workshop. We deliver customer satisfaction to the highest standards. That, guarantees you and me the peace of mind and if we can satisfy you, you pay for it. We will not bill you for anything we didn't put on your car and won't charge for anything we didn't do. All the changed parts are kept for you to either collect or we scrap them. Its just like saying "All men are the same". Nice thread though cos that is the reality in so many other places. |
Mboi: Pls guys, help me out with an idea. My gear just suddenly stopd sleceting whether D or R. I jus went to change something on my alternator after which I tried to move,it did not move. I was using Abro ATF b4 but not as it had dis problem I drilled all d abro and put Dexron III D stil nothing. Dou d former oil was very small. Guys wat could be d issue with d gear? D car is Toyota camry 99modelIf you had no problem prior to changing the alternator then it must be that your electrician has short circuited your TCM and rendered it incapable of communicating instructions to the gearbox itself. This may happen if the positive terminal on the alternator is bridged with negative as that can easily happen while using a spanner if the battery was not disconnected before carrying out the alternator replacement. Have the ECM checked for any possible damage if all other physical examinations prove abortive. Carry out a diagnostic scan of the TCM/ ECM and see if there are any codes related to the transmission. |
ping2ping: hi car doctor. Thanks for the good things you are doing on nairaland.I have encountered a few engine problems on this car but mainly due to bad mechanics and poor maintenance. The most common issues with them are the auto transmission. If you intend buying one, check for high mileage cars with poor service history and avoid them or else you might risk having to change the gearbox in no time. Car-Doctor. |

9icetoo: Vibrations in steering wheel at high speed could be caused by a number of things, bad tyre, bent rim, warped disc rotor, bad knuckle bearing (called spider abi shaft@op That the best advice you can get here o. |
ourdele: Thanks. Pls where is the solenoid located in the car? Can the changing be DIY? Where can I get to buy a new solenoid and do you have an idea of how much? I am in Lagos? Mechanic recommendation will also be appreciatedSolenoid E is located on the valve block of the transmission valve body which is inside the gearbox. It can be accessed from the bottom after removing the transmission sump. There's a series of similar solenoids attached but you would require a gearbox expert to ascertain which is the E among them. These solenoids are responsible for the shifting of the gears and like every electromechanical device , they can be prone to getting stuck or lose their electrical functions. I would advice that you assign this job to a qualified gearbox expert and have him service the solenoids or have them changed. That should cure your problem. With regards to the oil shortage, check underneath for any leakages after warming up the engine. Do this while the engine is still running. Its unusual for an autogearbox to lose oil without a leak. mario2575: Please I have a question. I use a Honda 2003 V6 (EOD) and the gear has failed to change when accelerating. When I put the gear on reverse it doesn't engage and starts to make noise. The D light on the dashboard also blinks and indicate gear malfunction. Please what is the solution here? Can it be fixed or I would have to replace entirely? Please helpHonda automatic gearbox issues have become a reoccuring decimal to any Honda automatic car owner. Slow take off, sluggish acceleration, lack of kick down, loss of drive while in motion, lack of gear change, aggressive gear changes, high engine revs without power in drive just to name a few. From my observation and the complaints made by some of our customers, these problems usually start from a gearbox oil change that was recommended by the mechanic who then uses the wrong type of ATF oil for the transmission. Honda recommends their own formila ATF-z1 for their gearboxes manufactured between 1998 to 2009 and upgraded to the ATF-Dw1 for gearboxes manufactured from 2010 upwards. Using the wrong grade of ATF would almost certainly result in a failing transmission. Low grade ATF may not be able to handle the high temperature operations operations of a gearbox. Under very high temperatures, low grade oil loses its fluidity and may begin to boil causing loss of hydraulic functions by frothing or foaming. Some remedies I have seen used by local mechanics is to further add engine oil to the gearbox in order to thicken the viscosity of the ATF. This in turn puts the pump under great stress as the thicker oil would require more effort from the pump in distributing the oil under high pressure as well as the oil filter which is usually embedded within the transmission gear train. (The removal and changing of all Honda transmission oil filter would require the removal of the gear box from the car and stripping down the gearbox) The resulting consequence would be an imminent and extreme overheating of the transmission and components such as the friction plates and a rapid degradation of the wet clutch fibres hence the loss of drive, slipping clutch and rough gear changes. These may set up fault codes and flash the " " light on the dashboard.Replacing the gearbox or a total overhaul by an expert would be the likely solution but before then, an inexperienced mechanic would Send you on a wild goose chase by suggesting the removal and servicing or outright replacement of shift solenoids on the outer casing of the gearbox. These solutions Don't last as its just a temporal remedy to a terminal issue. We constantly repair these gearboxes and those of other makes to a very high standard with 99.9% success rate and we recommend that if you are having serious issues with your Honda gearbox, ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed. |
You can try us if you like. We specialise in Honda cars as well as other makes and models. |
Phinga: The colour Is blackIf the transmission oil is black and has a dinstinctive burnt smell, your wet clutch fibres may be burnt and may require an overhaul of the transmission or total replacement. |
Phinga: My lexus RX300 does not move when I select either "First thing to check is if your check engine light is on. If so, carry out a scan on the transmission electronics and pull out the codes for any fault present and post the codes on this thread for analysis. That should be the first step. Secondly, If everything was ok prior to the problem developing instantly rather than progressively, check the gear selector switch on the gearbox casing to see if the clicks correspond with the positions on the gear lever within the car. |
Siena: Things that can make a car thirstier than normal:Nothing more to add. Seperb write up and analysis. |
Good stuff but you can only carry out these procedures if you still have a cat in your exhaust system as most cars that have come into my workshop with emission related issues have had the cats gutted out from the casing. I just had a 2008 Honda accord come in last week with the same p0420 code and on further investigation discovered that all the catalytic converters have been cleverly removed making the car less fuel efficient and the sound from the exhaust very hollow. I must advise that you check your car's cat before leaving it for too long at a mechanic workshop. |
The gear changing process on the w124 Mercedes is controlled by a vacuum operated modulating valve. The modulating valve is connected to a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifolds throttle head. In most cases, the vacuum pipe connections may come loose and possibly fall off leaving the modulating valve inoperative. Check underneath the car by the side of the gearbox where the valve is located and see if the vacuum pipe has come off. Secondly, trace the pipe to the inlet manifold to see if it is connected too. If everything is ok then it may be that your gearbox has internal issues which may require you bringing down the gearbox for repairs. |
Gosh. What an uuuuugly car. |
I just took this cylinder head from a a Toyoa Sienna. Imagine the amount of sludge in the engine. I've never seen it like this before. Terrible!!!!

kingschild123: What could cause a car to run sluggish then make knocking noises have white smoke from the engine then die and not start again? When an engine starts smoking, its an indication that its coming to the end of its service life. The piston rings are usually the ones that take a larger toll in the entire engine operation and are more succeptible to a higher rate of wear. This is mostly caused by poor maintenance and low quality dervice parts such as engine oils or filters. Once they begin to loose their strenghth as well as increased wear in the cylinder bore causing it to widen, engine oil begins to seep up and into the cumbustion chamber causing the oil to ignite with the fuel/air mixture which will ultimately mean the whitish smoke coming from the exhaust. It may also be caused by worn out valve oil seals allowing oil also to slip down the valve stems and into the cumbustion chamber. Unless a major overhaul is carried out, the engine will eventually knock damaging the crankshaft bearings, pistons and connecting rod journals, oil pump, camshafts etc. The valve stem oil seals would need to be changed too as well as the valves relapped and ground. I would simply advice you to have a replacement engine fitted as a more economical and reliable measure. |
Raise what? Pls use the correct language for this thread cos I'm sure most people can't understand what you are talking about. |
After all said and done, keep an eye on the temperature guage. |
I reckon that your car has a Dual Mass flywheel that is now badly worn. The flywheel is part of your clutch system and its almost likely that your clutch plates and discs are worn too. The only way of checking these items is by removing the gearbox. Sorry. |
Consortium: plz car doctor,my acura 1999 3.2 TL is gerking after a long speed and i slow down to accelerate again,it gerk and lift the engine up.could the ATF i used be the problem?A diagnosis based on your descriptions cannot be conclusive. You need to be able to seperate engine performance from that of the gearbox to ascertain which of the two being responsible for what you just described. Apart from a faulty transmission, your engine could display these symptoms. If you are in abuja, pls kindly bring the car in for proper examination. |
Fhemmmy: You are so right, just like there would be some white people too that would agree to buy a roll back but might be a ratio of 1:10,000 people, while Black (Nigerians would be 1:3 people) cos they wanna drive the best but cant afford it, so they would result in buying lemonsWhat has the colour of a man's skin got to do with the mileage of a car. You guys should get real pls. |
earthrealm: Nigerians don't care about mileage...many are ignorant..n only look at the body/interior.......And the sound of the engine also. Duhhhh |
Marpol: Is there fake DW-1? Cos I see 2 variants in the market. The grey one and the green one.Yeah. You are correct about the colours and there is also a gold coloured bottle. Can't say if the ones you saw are fake but just be careful enough in examining the packaging. |
@car-doctor, my camry pencil light 4cyl was set to idle @ 2000rpm because the ac would make the car trip off when I slow down while driving When the ac is on the car idles @ 800 - 1100rpm and I'm not comfortable with it. I fear it'll cause the car to overheat, or wear down the engine fast What might be the problem?
Check your air flow meter. If its faulty it would cause the engine to idle at a very low speed eg 500 rpm which is not fast enough to handle ac operations. Try changing the air flow meter and see what happens. |
car-doctor, do you have any of these two for sale? DENSO SK20R11 NGK IFR6A11 I am based in Lagos.
Sorry bro I Don't sell plugs. We only repair cars here in abuja. |
walexpal: Can i also use Honda ATF DW 1 in place of ATF Z 1?ATF-DW1 is an improved z1. Yes you can use it if your honda is a 1998 to 2000 model but its a lot more expensive than ATF-z1. Use only ATF-DW1 on cars built from 2010 onwards. If you own a Honda hybrid model, do not use any of these because they run on their own specialy designed hybrid ATF. |

). Since you changed ur didcs and it has continued, why don't you try checking the other possible causes. I hear warped discs can be machined to smooth them out again. Hopefully other members might be able to shed more light. wish you the best. have u tried rotating ur tyres to rule out bad tyres and rims?
