Jobs/VacanciesWhy You Should Always Update Your CV Even When Employed by careercrew1(op): 1:18pm On Jun 23, 2016
Just because you are employed doesn’t mean that your CV shouldn’t be updated. In actual fact, it is advisable to always update your CV and in this article we share with you the reason(s) why you should always update your CV even when employed.

It gives you an edge if a better position at your current place of work is advertised

It is advisable to update your CV despite being employed as you can never be too sure when a higher and better internal job position will be announced by the HR department.

Updating your CV keeps you prepared for whenever a vacant internal position is announced at your place of work and gives you the edge when a performance review is being carried out.

Recruiters will constantly be looking to employ you with better offers

Once your CV is regularly updated especially on professional social media space for example inkedin and recruiters are very impressed with your CV, you potentially tend to get better career job offer from them.

In case there is a downsizing at your current office

No job is permanent or secure and nothing lasts forever, so should in case there is a massive downsizing at your current place of work, updating and keeping your CV current on a regular basis will help you get back swiftly into the job market ahead of others should in case there is a massive downsizing.

Generally, you don’t need to wait for something to happen before looking for how to update your credentials.

Once your credentials are updated, you are preparing yourself for the unforeseen event that lies ahead

Triplee2:
you can also invest in FGN Bonds.
An introduction to FGN Bonds

About FGN Bonds

FGN Bonds are debt securities (liabilities) of the Federal Government of Nigeria issued under the authority of DMO and listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The FGN has an obligation to pay the bondholder the principal and agreed interest as they fall due.

FGN Bonds
When you buy FGN bonds you are lending to the federal government for a specified period of time. The FGN bond is considered as the safest of all investments in domestic currency securities market because it is backed by the ‘full faith and credit’ of the government. They have no default risk, meaning that it is virtually certain your interest and principal will be paid as and when due. The income you earn is exempt from state and local taxes.

The Government Issues Bonds for the following reasons

To finance government deficits in a non-inflationary and sustainable manner
To enhance fiscal discipline and for the management of monetary policies
To restructure the existing debt stock of short term debt to longer term obligations
To establish a benchmark yield curve, which acts as a reference for pricing other bonds issued by other bodies
To develop the domestic bond market on a sustainable basis
To enhance and deepen the savings and investment opportunities
Special Purpose FGN Bond
Special Purpose FGN bonds are bonds issued to meet specific needs of the federal government. For instance, following the approval of Mr. President, special purpose bonds were issued to selected banks for settlement of N75 billion pension arrears in 2006. Five deposit money banks participated in the private placement arrangement. In addition, in 2006 FGN floated bonds for the payment of debt owed to local contractors worth N91.7 billion. Recently, FGN indicated interest to raise funds through bonds for funding specific projects such as Methanol plant, revival of textile industry, terminal wages of workers, building of infrastructural facilities, etc.

This thread is created as an advisory thread in response to the thread where the OP was asking where he can invest his salary https://www.nairaland.com/3180604/how-save-invest-salary/1#46805379

I hope you will all find it useful as so many salary earners dont know where to invest their salary and income.

Have you started your own business and wondering how to invest your income? Is this your first job and you are wondering how to invest your money or have been working since and you need to invest prior to your retirement?

Well, you need to know that the major aim of investing your cash is to generate an extra stream of income which in turn can make you a millionaire by having a good investment plan.

Investing is a process were your money works for you while you rest without a single sweat, however, one thing you have to bear in mind is that investment requires a lot of patience, basic knowledge and appropriate guidance to ensure that your investment grows and yield positively.

In this article, I shall discuss various ways you can invest and diversify your salary to earn constant income.

Investing in Real estate and Properties:

First of all, you need to know what real estate is all about. Real estate simply refers to land, physical properties on the land like houses, buildings and fences etc.
Investing in real estate is very profitable because the potential for profit is very high.
You can make huge profits from investing in real estate or properties regardless of the economic situation, although there are also various risks involved but the risks can be managed, as long as you have the basic knowledge about investing in the real estate/ property sector.
If you wish to venture into investing in real estate and properties then you have to ensure that you have an action plan. With a proper action plan, you should be able to form a business plan and study the real estate/property business to achieve your desired goal.
You are however advised to make adequate research on real estate then talk with owners, sellers/ agents and local real estate professionals or Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) before you invest in this sector.

Investing in the Nigerian Stock Market:

The stock market or equity market is a financial market where the shares of a public limited companies are traded. It also provides an avenue were registered companies can access stable long-term funds or capital exchange giving investors in the company’s ownership in return.

To invest successfully in the Nigerian stock market you need to have knowledge of the market, understand the basics of investment in the market and its key parameters that shape stock performance.

You can get all these by reading various stock market investment books and interacting properly on stock market forums online. This will enable you carry out adequate research before entering the stock market to invest.

You also need employ or consult a stock broker who is fully registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission SEC and grants you online trading platform where you can buy and sell stocks by yourself. The advantages of having such stock broker is that you can easily monitor your portfolio and trade at the convenience of your home, office or your mobile devices.

Also, a fully registered stock-broking firm that offers online services send daily stock market information, recommendations, prices and also research which will help your investment decisions.

There are a lot of stock-broking firms that offers such privileges, so I advise that you visit SEC Nigeria official website to know if the stock broker is fully registered to avoid issues.

Please note that you can invest in the Nigerian stock market with as little as N20,000 with some stock broking firms.

Investing in Treasury bills:

Have you ever heard of Treasury bills and how you can make cool cash from investing in it?

One thing I have realized is that investing in treasury bills is one of the safest investment security tool which offers safe returns but yet few people know or have heard about it.

So what is a Treasury bill? Treasury bill is a short term debt instrument guaranteed by the government and issue by the Central Bank which in turn provides short term funds for the government since the CBN is the official bank of the government.

For you to buy the treasury bills you have to through your banks for assistance as they are the direct agents to the CBN.

The treasury bills are usually issued by the CBN which will mature between 91 days, 182 days and 365 days.

Other various benefits of investing in treasury bills are; it can be used as collateral to collect loans from banks, it risks is very minimal as it is guaranteed by the federal government and the profit earned is tax- free.

For full information about treasury bills, I advise that you contact your bank or financial adviser for more details about before you invest. Good luck!

CareerRe: How Do I Save And Invest From My Salary? by careercrew1: 7:32am On Jun 22, 2016
TomorrowToday:
Hi all,

I consider myself lucky to get a job after 5 months I finished NYSC, with an industry standard pay above N50,000 monthly. Eventhough like 2 months salary is being owed.

Furthermore I have worked for 6 months and am not thinking of changing job soon.
Reason being that in my position as a sales person am yet to bring in that huge financial figure, close sales I will look back on and be proud of my stay here, learn enough and prove myself valuable. I also don't subscribe to changing jobs based on higher pay.... Maybe for now.... You guys can correct me if I having being thinking wrongly .

OK that is that by way of introduction.

So like I said, I have been working for sometime now but can't boast of N50,000 savings.
I don't buy or use expensive things (most of my work clothes are first grade okrika, except for my natives that are new).
I don't do girls neither do I spend money on drinks, friends etc.

The bulk of my salary is often spent meeting one need or the other, personal; family etc. At the end of the month when am looking forward to add to what I was able to save one thing or the other will come and have me spend the money on it.

Really am not finding it funny as I don't have an alternative source of income. I have even thought of going to the bank where my salary is being paid into to request they set aside a reasonable sum of money as savings and leave the remaining balance.

Pls I have come to ask you guys. Do you find yourself in a similar position, how do you manage to save, what other sources of income can one venture into still keeping the regular job.

Pls I don't intend to be an employee up till my late thirties as I also have my own business dreams to actualize.

Pls your ideas, constructive criticisms and suggestions are highly needed.

Career6 Ways To Secure Your Current Job by careercrew1(op): 9:26am On Jun 21, 2016
Most people all over the world tend to lose their jobs easily or get sacked due to lack of job security. Many companies today are either downsizing or outsourcing job roles in order to cut down financial cost.

This article will help and guide you on how to stay relevant in your current work place and secure your employment.

Be ready to take up extra job task:

It is advisable that you display a can-do attitude every time at work, never complain when given an extra task or assignment, never be in a hurry to leave the office and be willing to help your colleagues or boss to complete their work.

Acquire and develop new set of skills:

Ensure that you acquire and improve on new skills needed for your job role that none of your colleague have. Also ensure you upgrade your educational background by going for professional courses, master’s programme, training, or development courses. This will improve and increase your performance and put you ahead of others thereby making you an invaluable asset to the company.

Remain positive and don’t complain:

Avoid complaining when given an extra task to do. Do not complain to your or supervisor about meeting deadlines or target given, rather remain focused and positive.

Be friendly and noticeable:

Be friendly right from the receptionist to your fellow colleagues and even your boss. Never fail to say “Hello” and get acquainted with other staff members. Whenever there is a group discussion, either work related or not, try to contribute positively and constructively to be noticed and recognized. Remember, you are not valuable when you fail to be friendly to others or when nobody knows you.

Be very punctual:

Make sure you come to work very early on a regular basis and try not to be in a hurry to leave the office once it is 5pm, rather use the time to complete an extra task and get to know your boss better. Doing this shows your boss that you are making extra effort to ensure the successful performance of the company.

Update your CV/resume regularly:

Updating your resume regularly gives you an upper hand in applying for internal vacancies faster. When your resume is current, you don’t need to rush to update it again thereby avoiding making mistakes on your application.

Following all these steps will sure make you very relevant to your colleagues, boss and employer

CareerHow To Become An Effective Trainer by careercrew1(op): 1:52pm On Jun 20, 2016
If you want a career as a Trainer in the Human Resource Department, then please read this piece i wrote.

One thing that am so grateful about is that I have a vast knowledge and experience in numerous fields like Training, Marketing and administration, blogging even teaching which were acquired from various companies that I have worked for and from personal arrangements.

I was privilege to get basic knowledge and skills required to be a Trainer when I was sent on Job rotation to work with the human resource department Learning and delivery division where I learned that training involves effective communication between the trainer and the trainee, having a proper training design/ pattern and having the right habit.

So, what is the real secret in becoming an effective trainer and what can you do to make yourself a top rated trainer? This article will explain more as you read further.

1. You have to know how to engage your target audience and make your training exciting:

To be an effective trainer you have to develop a good relationship with your target audience. Start by introducing yourself, the topic and what you aim to achieve at the end of the training. Once you do that, allow each trainee to introduce themselves and what department or organization they represent (if the training is an external one). You can also add some humor to the training to make it exciting and offer little quiz gift (e.g. Ball pen, face cap) or games to keep them engaged and focused on the training as well.

2. Ensure that you plan properly for the training:

For one to be an effective trainer, one has to gain more knowledge about the subject to be presented. Make sure that you research and understand the subject to be discussed properly, draft a proper training schedule module and ensure that your evaluation form is clearly printed out as this will be required at the end of the training.

3. Ensure that your training materials and equipment are functioning:

Ensure that all your training materials are available and functioning. For example, if your presentation is on a visual slide or via the web, you have to ensure that the equipment needed like laptop, visual slide etc. are well connected and functioning properly. It won’t be good when your target audience is seated only to find out that the laptop is not connected properly or the screen slide is not visible.

4. Keep to time:

It is highly important that to be an effective trainer you have to keep to the scheduled time. If a particular training is scheduled for 2-3Hours, it is appropriate that the trainer sticks to the time so that the training will not be boring or out live its purpose. So make sure that your properly plan your training pattern and topics to align with the time given.

5. Ensure that you summarize:

Once you are done discussing your topics it is always useful to summarize and make a brief recap on what you talked about.

6. Evaluate your performance at the end of the training:

Ensure that you distribute evaluation forms that the trainees will fill to evaluate your performance. This will help you to know your overall performance and how to develop on areas that needs to be worked.

With this piece of information, you are on the right path in becoming an effective trainer.

WebmastersRe: Can't Get Approved For Google Adsense. Help Need by careercrew1: 9:50pm On Jun 18, 2016
bloggingbay:
I have checked on your website and from what I discover, you will need to work on the following:
1. AdSense don’t accept blogs that are still running under a sub-domain
2. Most of your contents are not plagiarism free. They are copied from different sources. Google wants 100% original content.
3. Your contents length should be more than 700 words and should be error free
4. You must have 45-50 quality contents on a blog. And at least two contents should be around 1000-2000 words.
5. You blog should be well cleaned up and easy to navigate.
6. You should have good number of pageviews
7. You must have a privacy policy, terms and conditions and a contact us page.
I believe when all these are done, AdSense might consider you. I cannot guarantee you that but as at now, that is their requirements.
Thank you for your unbias review. Most of the articles are written by me...I am currently writing one this evening and will publish it soon. The only ones not from me are the vacancy adverts and i stated it clearly the source of information. I dont think that is plagiarism.

Also, i was advised by someone who said that google gives adsense to it users hence the reason why i started with it in the first place. cry

I dont have an issue with 5 and 7...I have the contact us page and terms and conditions page but i havent made it visible yet.

Currently i have about 300-500 views a day. I know it is poor but it is a good start for me as i officially launched it this monday.
