There are several massive countries "without respect" e.g Nigeria, which is presently only a giant in landmass and population. Better small and relatively insignificant than big for nothing. maybe you are missing something. |

Guinea-Bissau Lesotho Equatorial Guinea Burundi Rwanda Djibouti Swaziland Gambia Cape Verde Reunion Comoros Mauritius São Tomé and Príncipe
Belgium Armenia Albania Republic of Macedonia Slovenia Montenegro Cyprus Luxembourg Andorra Malta 316 Liechtenstein San Marino Monaco Vatican City Armenia

Smaller countries are easier to manage. apart from Israel, which amongst these nations are respected when giants are talking? Israel is only mouthed because of the US, if not so, they would have been looked down upon too. |

seunmsg: Most Christians only profess Jesus Christ in words of mouth and not in deeds. Same applies to most American conservatives. They hate Muslims, blacks and Hispanic. They want their government to be nasty to immigrants, shut the borders to muslim and protect their right to carry guns about even when they are killing each other daily with the guns. Yet, they still profess evangelical Christians. Will Jesus Christ support all these nonsense if he's to be on earth? sometimes I look at adherents of some religion, then I wonder if religion has not been personalized or domesticated. |

Foreign Affairs › Pope Francis Questions Donald Trump's Christianity by Caseless(op): 6:53pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
The Pope has questioned US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's Christianity over his call to build a border wall with Mexico. Pope Francis said "a person who thinks only about building walls... and not of building bridges, is not Christian". The New York businessman supports deporting nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants. Calling himself a "proud Christian", Mr Trump blamed Mexico for the Pope's remarks, calling them "disgraceful". Mr Trump has alleged that Mexico sends "rapists" and criminals to the US. Pope Francis made the comments at the end of trip to Mexico. "A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel," he said. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2016-35607597?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_breaking&ns_source=twitter&ns_linkname=news_centralOr https:///BlaSYkpjDc

I'd pick a BUHARI 100 times ahead of a drunken Jonathan. The shallow-mindedness bigotry typical of your people guide the choice you make as regards any Candidate in an election. Where I come from, we are objective in our choices. We voted abiola ahead of Bashir Tofa , voted obj in 1999 and 2003. We voted Gej too. Maybe you want us to believe the votes that brought Gej into office only came for the ss SE. If my voting BUHARI defines me as a tribalist, then what does voting Gej say about you? |

Favolly: Some people are locked in perpetual victimhood. I mean, weren't people from other ethnicities fired too?
While she has a point about tribal nepotism which is very common in all parts of Nigeria, she polluted everything by making it all about herself and her ethnicity. What did she even achieve in all the years that she was in charge?
In saner climes, she would have voluntarily resigned her position after PMB won the elections seeing as she was part of the campaign team that was gallivanting about insulting him. How does she expect to continue to work with someone she so vigorously campaigned against even to the point of outright abuse. IMO, Buhari has been extremely magnanimous to have kept someone like her up to this moment.

Politics › Re: Onyeka Onwenu: "They Worked Against Me As Director-General Because I'm An Igbo" by Caseless: 11:38am On Feb 18, 2016 |
Bagehot: 1. There is tribalism in every government agency - it is not exclusively targeted at Igbo people - but yes it is a huge problem.
2. I think Onyeka's problem with the guys she worked with stemmed more from their strong resistance to actually putting in work; trust me anyone who tried to bring about the transformation she described in her article would face very stiff opposition in any government agency. I'm aware that even in the Lagos Civil Service (which is seemingly the most urbane), the bosses at the top face a lot of spiritual attacks, especially where they are perceived to be "making life difficult" for their laggard subordinates.
3. Further to point 2, I've heard stories of how Onyeka was high-handed at this agency plus she also got her hands dirty with a couple of funny deals, so she can quit the "Jesus my saviour pretense.
3. Onyeka as a person can be quite nasty, and the truth is that the nastiness some of us in the private sector (especially financial services) get away with would get you into serious shit with these public servant types. I know top dogs in government agancies who are more careful with the very low cadre Staff than even senior staff. The nastiness of this brood is one of the reasons the labour union in this country is very effective (mostly at promoting bullshit) at many organizations.
4. The sack was not directed at any tribe, so Onyeka should quit trying to sneak the tribe card on us (even though some of the things she mentioned here are quite bewildering and need looking into).
5. Anywhere in this country where public sector behavour has taken root, fighting them is very difficult, bitter and very dangerous. When Funke Osibodu worked to push out these lot from union bank, she faced a lot of intimidation and even spiritual attacks (ask around from people in the know). Unon Bank had BOs and in some cases AMs who were drivers (i don suffer).
6. Tribalism is very real in Nigeria, and I dont know if its just my perception, but it seems to have become a more acute problem since after the election, with the SE and SS feeling left out of the equation, while the rest of the country views their protests as attacks (a bit simplistically), thus dismissing them. wonderful post! I couldn't have said it better. Freshvine and charles, read this. |
Politics › Re: Onyeka Onwenu: "They Worked Against Me As Director-General Because I'm An Igbo" by Caseless: 11:28am On Feb 18, 2016 |
freshvine: Ok.
Onyeka Onwuenu started by stating the laxity of workers in her establishment and how she was able to reorganize the place for effective administration .... You skipped this part in your reading.
She went on to explain how workers in that government departments have sectionalize the workforce and how she fought tirelessly to create a balance.... You skipped this part of canker worm that is eating deep into the fabrics of national integration and development.
Onyeka Onwuenu is a PRO Nigerian. Her first marriage was to a yoruba man....You see why she isn't a tribalist?
Her songs has always been about ONE Nigeria, LOVE amongst tribes and all the media gingles she did for government promoting ONE nation.
Here's a woman who believes in one Nigeria, Promotes Nigeria crying out for equal right and privileges in the same nation she so much believe in and all you do was to find hate to justify a bad system.
Are you more Nigerian than she is or you're just a tribalist believing the Injustices she recounts will carry on forever?
If you need a GOOD and working NATION, do the right thing. She didn't complain she was sacked, she only recounts her challenges while discharging her duties what were you expecting her to say actually, to say she did terribly bad office? She should have allowed her achievements to speak for but because there are none, she rushed to the press to defend herself and to blame others for her sack. Go and check the core mandate upon which the agency was formed and come back here to tell me what she has shamelessly highlighted can anyway measure up. Again, believing in "one Nigeria" is not in song, but in action- and this her outburst has proven that. If identifying a tribalist makes me a tribalist, then, I so accept. |

emmydee: I do not agree with you. The govt should rather investigate those issues she pointed out cos they actually took place. If you become a DG someday and your staff behave in such a manner, am sure you will react too. that's my point too. She should tell the government how she faced her problem and proffer solutions on how to tackle the issues of deadwoods in our civil service and not sectionalizing it. |
Politics › Re: Onyeka Onwenu: "They Worked Against Me As Director-General Because I'm An Igbo" by Caseless: 11:07am On Feb 18, 2016 |
AfroKnight: Throughout my stay in the east, I never saw even one street named after a non-igbo. The local government would rather leave the new street nameless and wait for an Igbo to buy land and apply. Even in their Federal Universities, non-igbos should forget about aspiring to higher positions cos the auhorities run the schools like State Institutions.
In their state civil service, non-igbos are virtually nonexistent. It is so bad that muslim igbos are victimized. Even Anglicans and Catholics have laughable discrimination issues. I have not even mentioned their politics. What non-indegenes often thrive upon is Entrepreneurship.
If you want to see real tribalism, go to the east. The reason they are quick to scream victimization is because they are so quick to victimize and marginalize other tribes. They think everyone is as clannish as they are. I have always said it, in their place they won't give you 0.5% of what they'd ask you in ur place to give them 100%. They don't celebrate people from other regions- you can't find a street named after people from other regions, but we do such for them. |

charles316: On a more serious note, tribalism won't take us anywhere. We,afrcans, are still living in the past and tribalism won't let us achieve much. that's just my point. I don't want anyone to come out, in an attempt to curry favor, they use religion and tribe. I believe it's not only northerners that work in that agency and if she had complained about Nigerians in general...since Nigerians in the civil service are known with such attitude generally. But she chose to add that ethnic coloration to it so as to sectionalize it. We have heads of agencies who are not northerners and have not been sacked and also, we have southerners who have been sacked alongside northerners. So those northerners who have been sacked, what could be the reason for their sack, because they are northerners? Tribalism won't help us! |
