Nigerians have linked the travails of former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, to his long-standing feud with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, had on Tuesday ordered the freezing of the sum of N9.9bn linked to Mr Ambode.

Ambode handed over as governor on May 29, 2019, after he was denied a second term by the APC following a falling-out with former Governor Tinubu.

The funds frozen by the court are domiciled in First City Monument Bank (FCMB) account number 5617984012, Access Bank account number 0060949275 and Zenith Bank account number 1011691254 respectively.

Justice Obiozor gave the order following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had prayed the court to freeze the account pending the conclusion of investigation and possible prosecution of Adewale Adesanya, the permanent secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to Ambode.

Nigerians on Twitter have now linked Ambode’s trials to his dispute with Tinubu, which is believed to be one of the reasons why he was denied a ministerial appointment.

The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi has shut down the institution following the death of four students in a bridge collapse.

ATBU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulazeez Ahmed, announced the closure of the school on Tuesday in a press briefing.

The incident occurred Monday night at Gubi Campus of the university with four students killed and eight others injured.

The collapsed bridge linked one of the hostels and another building containing lecture rooms.

It collapsed at midnight during a heavy downpour as students were returning to their hostels after night study for their on-going 1st-semester examination.

The VC said the closure was to honour the victims, adding that the university would reopen on August 19.

“The students were trying to return to their hostels in the midst of the rain last night when the connecting bridge between their reading area and their hostels collapsed and the students drowned.

“While the full details of the occurrence are being awaited, others who were injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment in the university medical centre,” he said.

Ahmed added that the missing persons were yet to be ascertained, but confirmed that some students’ identity cards were recovered within the campus.

He said that firefighters and other security operatives have been drafted to the campus on search and rescue operation.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has vowed to continue with protests after Suhaila Zakzaky, daughter of the group’s leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, called for continuation of protests on Thursday.

Suhaila had disowned Ibrahim Musa who posed as IMN spokesman, saying he was only the chairman of the media forum, just like any forum in the Islamic movement.

A statement on Friday by a top member of the IMN, Abdullahi Musa, for Academic Forum, Sisters’ Forum and Abul-Fadl, said other IMN members were not informed about the ban on protests.

“First of all, we would like to state for the record that apart from members of the media forum none of us was informed of this prior to seeing it in the papers and online.

“Secondly, the media forum of the Islamic Movement is supposed to consist of Pressmen and thus has no involvement in the organizing of our ceremonies, our protests or legal activities among others. Thirdly, no decision of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has ever been communicated on the page of a newspaper,” the statement said.

The IMN disowned Ibrahim Musa as their spokesman.

“For this reason, we are compelled to caution the media to never treat, any further, such explicit declarations by any member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in general, and Ibrahim Musa in particular, without a grain of salt. We wish to also explicitly state that we are fully determined to continue our protests.

“We shall continue our peaceful protests, uninterrupted and unhindered till our leader Sheikh Zakzaky is free, for as long as it takes, regardless of obstacles. Until Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky is Free, our protests will continue,” the statement said.

Rapper, Falz, has attacked Senator Elisha Abbo for saying young people around the world aspiring for political office were learning from him.

The senator had made the statement on receiving the Icon of Democracy Award last week from the Intercommunity Awareness for Change and Development Initiative in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Abbo appeared in a viral video early July assaulting a nursing mother who tried to defend an attendant, Bibra Warmate, at a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

Former governor of Cross River, Donald Duke, has called for the addition of portfolios for the effective screening of ministerial nominees.

Mr Duke told newsmen on Tuesday that the screening of ministerial nominees without portfolios shows the country’s unwillingness to ‘get things right’.

A former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, also called for enactment of a law to compel attachment of portfolios to ministerial nominees presented to the Senate for screening, Igbere TV reports.

Ogunlewe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that the law if enacted, would ensure that nominees were subjected to better screening by the Senate.

“As far as I am concerned, the Senate has done what it is supposed to do. We saw improvements on the Day Four and Day Five,” he said.

“They (senators) listened to complaints of the people and decided to ask questions, but the questions were of general applications; they were not about specific portfolios.

“There is the need for the country to have a law that will compel any administration to attach portfolios to ministerial nominees.”

Ogunlewe also said he had no grouse with the ‘take a bow’ privilege given to some nominees, adding that it is the tradition of the Senate to give special privileges to nominees who used to be lawmakers.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has set up a committee to probe contracts awarded by the immediate past governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi.

The 10-man committee is headed by the chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Oyo State chapter, Damola Falade-Fatila, Igbere TV reports.

The committee will review contracts and projects awarded by Ajimobi’s government between 2017 and 2019.

Makinde gave the committee a four-week duration to carry out the assignment.

The governor, on Monday, conducted the inauguration at the executive chamber of his office, Agodi Secretariat in the company of top government functionaries, including the Chief of Staff, Bisi Ilaka; Head of Service, Amidat Agboola; Director General, Due Process, Tara Adefowope.

Others present were Deputy Chief of Staff, Mojeed Ajibola; Executive Assistance (Admin), Idowu Ogedengbe; Special Adviser (Legislative Matters) Ademola Adejumobi; Special Adviser (Media), Jide Ajani; Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, among others.

Makinde, who said that some contractors were making claims on ongoing projects, added that the committee was to examine if the costs of contracts awarded were appropriate and examine if the contractors were capable enough to deliver the contract in terms of quality and scheduled time.

Mr Falade-Fatila assured the governor that the committee would not disappoint the people of the state.

The members of the committee include Seun Adelore, Idowu Oyeleke, F. O Omokemi (Cabinet Governor’s Office), and A. Popoola (Ministry of Finance and Budget).

Senator Elisha Abbo has said that the ministerial nominee from Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, donated his salary to him when he was governor of Osun.

Mr Abbo, who was seen in a video assaulting a woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja, said on Monday during Aregbesola’s screening, that the former governor gave him his entire salary for a particular month in 2012, Igbere TV reports.

Abbo added that he had visited Aregbesola to solicit for his support when he was contesting for the chairmanship of his local government.

“I want to join my colleagues from Osun and the entire south-west to extol the virtue of this great Nigerian,” he began.

“I remember in 2012 when I contested for the chairmanship of my local government as a very tiny young man; I visited you in GRA, Ikeja in your house. I never knew you and you asked me to come in and I explained my problems and you told me to come to the government house and meet you.

“When I got there, I thought I would stay there for three days without seeing you. I filled a form, you saw my name and ushered me into your office upstairs and you gave me the whole of your salary that month to go to Adamawa and contest election.”

He asked the Senate to also grant Aregbesola the privilege of bowing before the lawmakers without questioning, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari should give him ‘a very big ministry’.

Aregbesola said he could not remember the encounter but commended Abbo for making it public, saying he owed such gesture to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Former Senator Shehu Sani has urged the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, and other prominent Islamic leaders to ensure the release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife.

Sani told journalists on Sunday that the proscription of the group would worsen the crisis, Igbere TV reports.

He said: “The solutions to IMN problem, in my personal opinion, are four. The first is that the Sultan of Sokoto and other religious leaders should provide guarantee to the Federal Government on which the leader of the IMN would be released to them. Secondly, the IMN should stop all forms of protest, whether peaceful or violent.

“The third aspect of it: the government should move towards addressing the problems of their members who were killed and their homes that were destroyed, in compliance with the previous court orders.

“The fourth aspect of it is that the movement should stop its alleged relationship with nations outside of Nigeria that pose security threats on our country. If they are a movement, they should be a movement; as the name implies, a Nigerian movement to pursue their ideas, their beliefs and whatever they preach.”

The former lawmaker said everything must be done to avoid a situation where the movement would suddenly disappear from the radar to spring surprises, Igbere TV reports.

Police in Bayelsa say they are still investigating the kidnap of the mother of former Nigeria international, Samson Siasia, Igbere TV reports.

Bayelsa police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, told newsmen on Sunday that rescue efforts were still on.

“Yes, investigation is on-going to rescue the victims,” Mr Butswat said via a text message.

Beauty Siasia, 79, has now been in her captors’ hands for two weeks after she was kidnapped on July 15 with two others in Odoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The septuagenarian was kidnapped with a woman, Florence Douanana, 65, and her 17-year-old daughter, Selekire Douanana.

The Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia, had visited the scene of the kidnap twice and deployed police marines to comb the creeks of the area in search of the abducted victims.

The four Turkish nationals abducted on Saturday July 20th from a pub in Gbale village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom.

The abducted employees of Istanbul Concrete Limited in Gbale, were identified as Yasin Colak, 33; Senerapal, 40; Ergun Yurdakul, 35; and Seyit Keklik, 25, Igbere TV reports.

The Turkish nationals regained their freedom today, July 26, and have been received by Kwara state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun at the Police Headquarters in Ilorin, the State capital.

Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, says he does not believe that Boko Haram captive, Leah Sharibu, is dead.

Grace Taku, an aid worker kidnapped by Islamic insurgents, had claimed that Sharibu, alongside one Alice, was killed because of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s inability to “do something”, Igbere TV reports.

However, Sani countered the aid worker’s claim in a tweet on Thursday, saying he does not believe Sharibu is dead.

He said; “My personal opinion;I don’t believe that Leah Sharibu is dead!”

Sani was in 2013 appointed by then President Goodluck Jonathan into a Federal Government National Committee to Dialogue with the Boko Haram insurgents.

He turned down the offer on the ground that his previous recommendation was not followed.

The 51-year-old is now a critic of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir el-Rufai of his home state, having fallen out with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senate has confirmed Tayo Alasoadura, Mustapha Shehuri, Abubakar Aliyu, and Bashir Magashi as ministers.

They were screened on Thursday after 10 others had been confirmed on Wednesday.

Alasoadura from Ondo State is a former federal lawmaker. Shehuri from Borno is the immediate past Minister of State of Works, Power and Housing, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Igbere TV reports.

Aliyu was deputy governor of Yobe State between 2009 and 2019.

Magashi from Kano State is a former ECOMOG field commander.

The Senate unanimously waved some of its rules on the screening of Alasoadura and Shehuri who were once in the National Assembly.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has reacted to reports that President Buhari may be considering the proscription of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria other wise known as Shi'ites, Igbere TV reports.

There have been rumors that the President might ban the Islamic movement following the bloody clash the members had with men of the Nigerian Police in Abuja on Monday July 22nd.


The protesting Shi'ites were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in detention since December 2015.

Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, have attended the burial of Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Igbere TV reports.

Mrs Olakunrin was buried on Monday at the cemetery of St. David’s Cathedral Anglican Church, Akure, Ondo State.

She was killed by an armed gang on July 12 along Benin-Ore expressway.

Also at the burial were former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode; former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko; Senator Iyiola Omisore; and former minister of communications, Omobola Johnson.

Akeredolu, on behalf of other South-West governors, said they were bent on facing security challenges in the region head-on.

“It is a serious security challenge but we are prepared to face the challenge, don’t doubt it.

“Something drastic and urgent has to be done and we are determined to do it, there is no other way,” he said.

A 23-year-old, Timileyin Adebayo confessed to men of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state Police Command that he normally receives N8,000 for every operation he participated in after being arrested for using a tricycle to rob a television presenter, Igbere TV reports.

The suspect , Timileyin Adebayo in company with three others currently on the run, had on July 12 , 2019, while pretending to be passengers in a tricycle, used knives and a cutlass to dispossess a lady of her belongings .

In his confession to the RRS men , Adebayo stated that his gang members were Olabanji , Ahmed and Lekan .

He stated, “The operation was my fifth with the gang. I joined the gang this July and for each of the operations , they gave me N 8 , 000 only . No matter what we made, that was what they gave me maybe , because I just joined the gang. They didn ’t treat me as one of them at all.

“ I was asked to join the gang after one of the gang members pulled out. They had been operating for a long time before I joined them. I was a bus conductor and I later had no job . They promised to assist me and that was when they invited me to join the gang.


“ We rob between Coca Cola on Agidingbi Road and Ogba, and Ikeja and Ogba. We use two knives and a short cutlass. I collect phones and the belongings of our victims . ”

The television presenter , who did not want her name in print , stated, “ Around 10 pm I was standing at the Coca Cola bus stop, when their tricycle came . I boarded it hoping to drop at Ogba.

“They were all men. I didn't suspect anything , because there were other tricycles there . I noticed that as soon as the driver linked Wempco Road, the two passengers at the back and the one sitting in front brought out knives and a cutlass and threatened to kill me if I did not co – operate with them.

“They collected my two phones, my handbag , jewellery and some money. I can ’t even recollect how much it was . They then pushed me out of the moving tricycle.


“As I was struggling to get up to avoid being hit by oncoming vehicles, one motorcyclist assisted me and we went on the trail of the robbers . We caught up with them on Akilo Road, and unfortunately for us, they used their tricycle to hit us.

“ This was the point that the RRS patrol team saw us and chased after the robbers . They abandoned their tricycle and fled in different directions , but the RRS men got that one ( pointing at Adeoye ) . ”

Recovered from the suspect were the tricycle and a dagger.


The state Commissioner of Police , Zubairu Muazu , in his reaction to the development, directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and ordered the immediate arrest of other members of the gang.

A South African man has been left heartbroken after he discovered that his girlfriend and the mother of his baby secretly went ahead to get married to another man, Igbere TV reports.


The man simply identified as Niya disclosed that he had no idea she was in a relationship with someone else or even the fact that she planned to tie the knot.

Promise Chukwudum, a student at the University of Regina, in Saskatchewan, Canada, has been found dead more than a month after he went missing. Police found his corpse in a creek area behind the Shell gas station on the corner of Sherwood Drive and McIntosh Street, at about 4:45 p.m. on December 21, 2018.

The 19-year-old Computer Science student and rugby player went missing in the early hours of November 17. The police said there was no indication Chukwudum’s death was a result of criminal act.

The Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are conducting a death investigation to fully understand the circumstances of his death. As of Dec. 10, police said they had to consider the possibility that he may have sought shelter somewhere from the cold, because the night he disappeared, the temperatures dipped below -20 C.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the arrest and trial of four policemen attached to the Ijanikin Division for an alleged corrupt practice and shoddy investigation.

The officers, namely, Inspector Amiete, Sergeant Gbemunu Samuel, Sergeant Afolabi Oluwaseun and Corporal Adigun Omotayo had arrested one Theodore Ifunanya on the suspicion of armed robbery on December 17, 2018 and in the course of investigation, recovered the sum of three hundred and fifty thousand Cefas (350,000.00) from him.

After the investigation, the said Ifunanya Theodore was exonerated from the allegation.

However, when his request for the release of his money was not attended to, he called the Area Commander in charge of Area K Morogbo, ACP Hope Okafor, who directed that his money be released to him without delay.

Meanwhile, the CP was briefed that the aforementioned police operatives were not at their professional best while handling the case.

Consequently, he directed the head of the Command's Provost Section to arrest, investigate and try the officers involved in orderly room and if found guilty, appropriate punishment will be meted to them.

In the same token, the CP has directed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijanikin division be issued with a query and if his response is not acceptable, his conduct will be reported to the Inspector General of Police for necessary action.

The grandchildren of a man were shocked when wads of cash fell from the ceiling of their late grandfather's home.

Prince Hollywood, who back in November accused Bobrisky of collecting money from him only to refuse to do the job he was paid for, returned to Nigeria for the Christmas holiday and travelled to his ancestral home. While there with his siblings and cousins, they witnessed bundles of money fall from a hole in the ceiling.

The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has given more insight into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a Nigerian, Mr Okufolajimi Abegunde in US since June 25, 2018 even though till date there was no official correspondence to the effect from the family.

2. However, that notwithstanding, these are the facts of the matter :


(a) A US department of Justice has since June 2018 arrested and charged eight people including Mr Abegunde for cybercrime and business email compromise conspiracy.


(b) They were alleged to have defrauded some US Companies and individuals to the tune of $15 Million USD.


(c) However, Mr Abegunde claimed innocence, saying his address was used by a friend of his, Mr Ayodeji Ojo, who has apparently been previously charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and is currently at large.


(d) Mr Abegunde along with the 7 others, currently have a criminal case against them in the US, . Mr Abegunde had his detention hearing on June 25th.


(e) However, when the Nigerian consulate in Atlanta became aware of the detention of Mr Abegunde, who claimed innocence,a letter was written to the West Tennessee Detention Facility in Mason, Tennessee (where he is detained) requesting consular access.


3. The consulate in Atlanta is awaiting response for consular access to Mr Abegunde through the US Department of State in Washington, without which the mission cannot visit him


4. The case of Mr Abegunde underscores the need for our citizens to be careful of how they deal with people, even acquaintances, especially when it comes to financial matters.


5. Mr Abegunde ‘s pleas that his friend, Mr

Ayodeji Olumide Ojo, used his address to open a bank account in a US bank, will hopefully be proven right in court


6. Unfortunately, Mr Ojo , his friend, who has been previously indicted by the US Department of Justice and charged with conspiracy to commit fraud is currently on the run


7. The consulate will undertake a consular visit to Mr Abegunde as soon as consular access is granted by the US authorities.

It has been revealed that the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh met with Aisha, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, over his trial for corruption three weeks before he was shot dead by unknown gunmen along Abuja-Keffi Road on Tuesday.

IgbereTv News learnt that Badeh, who was facing trial for alleged fraud, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, allegedly met with Aisha Buhari to seek her intervention in his legal troubles which were reportedly taking an emotional and financial toll on him.

A close associate of the deceased claimed that he confided in him that Mrs Buhari told Badeh that only Kyari could help him.

“Badeh stated that Aisha Buhari then took him to Kyari, but the COS was non-committal. He asked the ex-CDS to call him back, but he (Kyari) was unreachable since the meeting which took place about three weeks ago,” the source, a former paramilitary officer, said.

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will not spare Badeh’s properties despite his passing.

An EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that the anti-graft agency was determined to pursue the ongoing trial to a conclusive end and recover all illegally acquired properties by the deceased.

Acting spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, could not be reached by our correspondent for his reaction to the issue as of the time of filing this report on Friday.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, could not respond immediately. A text message sent to him was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report.

A wriggling amphibian which can only see the world in black and white and which literally buries its head in the sand has been named after President Donald Trump.

Envirobuild, a sustainable housing company, bid £19,800 at an auction for the right to name the worm-like Panamanian amphibian Dermophis donaldtrumpi. The company says that it chose to name the creature after Trump because of Donald Trump’s policies on climate change and how both the amphibian and the president tend to see things in black and white.

The company wrote in a blog post:
Caecilians is taken from the Latin Caecus meaning “blind”, and have rudimentary eyes which can only detect light or dark.

Capable of seeing the world only in black and white, Donald Trump has claimed that climate change is a hoax by the Chinese.

The amphibians live almost entirely underground, believed to have lost their limbs at least 60 million years ago, as an adaptation to burrowing.

Burrowing its head underground helps Donald Trump when avoiding scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change and also appointed several energy lobbyists to the Environment Agency, where their job is to regulate the energy industry.

Envirobuild also drew attention to a similarity between the creature and Donald Trump’s approach to looking after their offspring.

The company said:
The dermophis genus grows an extra layer of skin which their young use their teeth to peel off and eat, a behaviour known as dermatrophy. As a method of ensuring their children survive in life Donald Trump prefers granting them high roles in the Oval Office.
The name will still have to undergo peer review by biologists, the company says – but several other animals are already named after US presidents.

The company added:
As Demorphus donaldtrumpi is an amphibian, it is particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change and is therefore in danger of becoming extinct as a direct result of its namesake’s climate policies.
