A Nigerian man, Osondu Victor Igwilo has been charged in a Houston court by the US Justice Department as the ringleader of an international advance-fee scheme.

Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Ryan Patrick of the Southern District of Texas, Special Agent in Charge Perrye K. Turner of the FBI’s Houston Field Office and Special Agent in Charge Robert Smolich of the U.S. Department of State Office of Inspector General made the announcement.

Igwilo’s fraud allegedly involved false promises of investment funding by individuals who impersonated U.S. bank officials in person and over the internet to victims around the world. Proceeds of the scheme were allegedly laundered through U.S. bank accounts and diverted back to the scheme’s perpetrators in Nigeria. Osondu Victor Igwilo, 49, of Lagos, Nigeria, was charged in a complaint filed in the Southern District of Texas in December 2016. The complaint charges Igwilo with one count of wire fraud conspiracy, one count of money laundering conspiracy and one count of aggravated identity theft. Igwilo remains a fugitive.

As alleged in the complaint, Igwilo was the leader of a criminal network of “catchers,” who sent phishing emails to potential victims falsely offering investment funding on behalf of BB&T Corporation, a U.S. bank headquartered in North Carolina. When victims were interested in the supposed investment funding, Igwilo allegedly dispatched U.S. citizens whom he had recruited over the internet to pose as “representatives” of BB&T to meet in person with the victims and sign a supposed investment agreement on behalf of BB&T.

When travelling to the countries where the victims resided, these representatives, at Igwilo’s direction, would visit the local U.S. embassy or consulate and employ fake documents with fraudulent seals of the U.S. government to deceive the victims into believing that the investment agreement was sponsored by the U.S. government, the complaint alleges.

Igwilo then allegedly used the representatives and catchers to convince victims to make wire payments to bank accounts in the United States on the false belief that such payments were necessary to effectuate the investment agreements. The holders of the U.S. bank accounts were “money movers,” who disposed of the funds as directed by Igwilo, including by purchasing luxury vehicles, from brands such as Mercedes Benz and Range Rover, and shipping them to Nigeria, the complaint alleges.

Senate President Bukola Saraki was in Imo State today to meet with PDP delegates on his plan to run for office of President come 2019.

Justice, the Taxify driver who was accused of theft and fraud some days ago by a customer, has decided not to sue her anymore after she sent him an apology.

The lady named Agatha Grace accused Justice of fraud after she was charged 6,900 for a short trip from Aja to Lekki (read here ). Grace claimed Justice did not end the trip and continued to Surulere on her time. As a result, an exorbitant amount was deducted from her.

But Taxify has now resolved the issue, which is believed to have been a technical one, and Grace has gotten her money back.

She offered an apology to Justice in private but he initially asked that the apology be made public since he was disgraced publicly. He threatened to sue if she doesn't apologise publicly.

They eventually settled after Grace took down the post where she accused him.

Justice said that he was letting it go and will not sue her anymore based on advice he received from his pastor and people around him.

Two Nigerians identified as Eneye Dania and
Osariemen Isibor have been sentenced to a combined 31 months in prison over a “spearfishing” email scheme seeking to steal personal information from Vermont state employees and file fraudulent tax returns.

Dania, 31, was sentenced to 17 months, while Isibor, 32, will serve 14 months. Both men will be returned to Nigeria after completing prison time. The two men pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud in U.S. District Court in Rutland in March.

Federal officials said Dania and Isibor sent emails to employees of local governments, colleges and universities designed to look like they were sent from human resource departments. The emails gave the impression that employees were being provided information about how to file their taxes, with a fake link promising access to payroll and tax withholding data. That link instead went to a page operated by members of the scheme, who captured login credentials.

The men subsequently used the information to access the real accounts of employees, and then attempted to file fake tax returns, with the hopes of receiving a tax refund. The Internal Revenue Service blocked most of the fraudulent filings before refunds were issued. Court filings show a surveillance camera image from a Texas bank, where Dania is seen depositing $17,500 into an account in Isibor’s name.

Vermont Tax Commissioner Kaj Samson told VTDigger in March that no Vermont tax refunds were paid out to the perpetrators. Both Dania and Isibor participated in the email scheme while in Nigeria, and then travelled to the U.S. after committing the crime, according the U.S. Department of Justice statement on the sentencing released Wednesday. The case was investigated by Vermont-based FBI cyber agents and the investigators from the Internal Revenue Service.

A Nigerian lady on Twitter, Cyndi is of the opinion that male boarding schools do not play a role in turning a young boy gay as most of them already had tendencies which was heightened after close proximity with other boys.

The Tweets were supported by a Nigerian man who says his parents transfered him from an all boys school to a mixed school for fear of breeding a homosexual, but this didn't have any impact on him as he turned gay eventually.

A good Samaritan has cautioned well-meaning Nigerians, asking them to beware of a couple of young boys claiming they need help only to end up stealing from you when you offer help.

Emmanuel Owuala shared photos of the young boys who station themselves at the Udoumana traffic light to sell sub stories. He said they told him they needed money to buy pure water and start a business.

Emmanuel took pity on them and gave another young boy some money and asked him to go with the boys to get them the pure water they needed for their business, but on the way, the boys dragged the money from the other boy Emmanuel gave the money to, threatened to beat him up, and ran off with the money to buy a "concoction" instead of the pure water they claimed they needed.

After Emmanuel shared the story, other social media users resident in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state also said they know the boys and accused them of criminal activities. One Edidem Macauley claimed one of the boys once met him when the keke napep he was in stopped at a traffic light and he tried to snatch his phone from him.

A viral video shows a female mourner twerking on top of a casket during a funeral procession.

In the video shared online, mourners clad in white and black mourning garb are seen dancing and singing on both sides of the casket. Soon, a young female mourner walks up to the casket and begins twerking beside it to the amusement of onlookers.

However, their amusement turns to alarm when she climbs the coffin and sits astride it, then begins twerking. Other mourners screamed a warning and tried to pull her down but she held on firmly and kept twerking, until someone pushed her down, sending her tumbling to the floor.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State for allegedly beating his mother to a state of coma.

The Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Muhammed Gidado Fari, said the suspect, Obey Samuel, was arrested for beating his biological mother “without any provocation.”

Aamuel however denied the allegation. He said, “I did not beat her but I know that when I came back from a night club at that time I was drunk I just locked her up in her room.”

US-Based Nigerian lady @zynnnie on Twitter has narrated how her father saved her from an abusive relationship after a simple dispute with her fiance over wedding venue.

It turns out the guy had issues with violence. He went ahead to marry someone else and years later, he was locked up for beating his wife.

Two months later, Mr A called me that he was getting married to another girl that his daddy arranged for him. I was broken and sad, I called my mum and was ranting on how she ruined my life and made Mr A marry another girl. My dad once again didn’t say a word.

I called my dad and told him then he said, “I knew you guys had no business getting married if something as common as venue of the wedding was an insurmountable problem, I just needed you to see it for yourself”

My dad’s statement woke me up from slumber and something clicked. I wiped my tears immediately and said thank u daddy. He started hailing me with his usual Ada obodo oyibo’m and Ada kpokee nkee kpokee nkee ( I don’t know what that last one means but he calls me that)

I remembered this story cos my dad asked about Mr A today. I told him that his father in law locked him up for beating his daughter and my dad nearly died of laughter.
