bullseye90:The seventies. Some of the Chase novels were actually written in the thirties but they are so timeless that they could have been written today. |
I have read all his books. I repeat all his books. When we were kids, the books were selling for one Naira per copy. The publishers Fagbamige publishers had the copyright in Nigeria in those days so the books were readily available to anyone who wanted to buy and read them. Those were the good old days in this country. At times I go on the internet to re-read some of these books. A wonderful thriller writer who wrote thriller books about America but never once visited America. |
Hmmmm. |

EfemenaXY:Very true,this. |
I regret voting for Muhamadu Buhari in 2015. I apologise to Ebele Good luck Jonathan, because the difference between the two candidates is that between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. # Both of them are clueless. #six and half a dozen. God save Nigeria. |
ibedun:My honest advise to you is to learn how to be civil during a discourse because you do not have a monopoly of insults. I will have you know that in fact one popular pastor has four jets as I am typing this. I tried to post the links but my phone has refused to obey. However goggle is always your best friend on these occasions; "Goggle Nigerian pastors and private jets" Educate yourself, because a mind is a terrible thing to waste. |

This small car naa him dis pastor dey advertise when his mates are giving thanks to the Lord for their third private jet.... On a more serious note the collection of tithes and offerings by the church/pastors is the greatest scam ever invented by mankind to fleece mankind. |
Honestly,I give up on Nigerian football if this is the best we could get.. |
ProfessorPeter:I am sure he uses the same osusu/ajo savings company as General Burantai. APC officials sabi save their salary sha! |
It is always good to get a first win under the belt before the season proper commences. The first trophy of the Mourinho era,and hope there will be many more. We did not play fantastic football but at least we dominated Leicester in almost all departments of the game. I suppose things will take proper shape once Paul Pogba arrives. Bailly looks a solid defender and when Smalling is fit I think we should have a defensive formation that could propel us onto better things. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a proven goal scorer and will score lots of goals once the pattern is set to fit him. Fellaini is the kind of big strong player,Mourinho loves and all talk of him leaving may actually be balderdash. Mata's substitution was tactical, because Mourinho loves to run down the clock through substitutions. Although it may appear the gaffer hates Mata,we have to accept that Mata is a lightweight defensively and at that point in time Leicester were bombing balls into our 18. Just glad we won and for the first time since Fergie retired I feel excitement in the air again and I am assured that even if we are not the finished article yet,we are gonna be competing on all fronts for all the trophies available. |
Great News. Mourinho has got all his targets,so let the season begin! I think I am beginning to get excited about the beginning of a season again, just like back in Fergies days! ![]() |
![]() ![]() APC and flip flops are like six and half a dozen. All promises during the campaigns are being denied blatantly. No policy achieved successfully. Economy nko? Four hundred Naira equals One Dollar! Power/electricity equals total black out/darkness. Corruption nko? Has one corrupt person been found guilty and jailed? All we hear is they have returned money, but when we ask how much has been returned so far? APC will enter voice mail. Burantai the master saver dey one corner dey use Nigeria army money dey purchase hotel for Dubai, what of Dambazzau and now Dogara? APC naa waoooo! Change indeed.... |
These outfits are ...um...odd if I may say... |
I vote PHOTO SHOOT. CC:NLjega. |

Stephen Keshi, legend, leader and trail blazer! RIP. |
Anyone who knows the workings of the finance ministry know that Colonel Alli, the current Comptroller General of Customs has little regard for Mrs Kemi Adeosun, his supervising minister and current finance minister. I learnt he has little contact with her and jumps over her head to report direct to President Buhari. |
In a political party with proper internal democracy character's like Remi Tinubu and Dino Melaye would never qualify to be members of the Nigerian Senate making laws for me and you. What are their antecedents except the fact that Remi Tinubu is backed by her husband Bola Tinubu or that Dino Melaye is backed by his godfather Bukola Saraki. Nigeria,as a country is in a big mess and quagmire with people like this leading us and making laws for us. Pathetic! |
theEYe21:Please Sir, not this type of slippers. |
Nice one,Kabiyesi. |
EazyMoh:I read it. I feel very sad about this sword of plagiarism hanging over the work of Mr Ekwensi but the dangerous fact is that if he could plagiarize one book and get away with it,it follows that some of his other works could be plagiarized too. Serious food for thought and saddening. |
iawaziri@yahoo.com There is also a link of a nephew of John Tafida accusing Cyprian Ekwensi of plagiarising his uncles work. It was written in 2012 after Mr China Achebe released his book,"There was a country". |
EazyMoh:http://www.jstor.org/action/showPublication?journalCode=reseafrilite That's the link, sir. Actually I have been on the thread since it was posted. Cyprian Ekwensi was such a big part of my reading as a youth and I was shocked to read about all this plagiarism stuff and I have been searching the internet all day to reach the truth. Unfortunately there is very little information on this issue but we must continue to search. The truth must be hidden somewhere. I also found out that John Tafida was not an illiterate as I thought before but actually one of the Hausa intellectuals of the time although not a top class writer but he could hold his own. |
Please interested parties should goggle the following topic-"Hausa to English-a study in paraphrase by Neil Skinner." It sheds a lot of light on the issue in question. Apparently from Dr Skinners investigation, Mr Ekwensi got the story from an unnamed Mallam 18 years after Jiki Magayi was published. On the part of the co writer of Jiki Magayi,Mr Rupert, he encouraged John Tafida Umaru to write a story about Hausa culture but the end product was so poor that he had to work on the story with Tafida, hence both their names had to appear as co authors of the book. |
This is a lesson to all young aspiring writers out there-protect your copyright. Do not because you want to be a writer at all cost, endanger the copyright of your intellectual property. The case of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee over who created the fictional Marvel comic super hero Captain America springs to mind. Kirby was the artist who created the Captain America super hero and took the art work to his publisher Stan Lee who diddled a few extra ideas on the art work and published the comics of Captain America as a joint creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Years later Kirby was to die in penury. Suddenly all the big film studios were doing super hero films and the Captain America franchise was raking in money. Stan Lee who was still alive and had little to do with the creation of the comic strip is raking in millions of dollars for being smarter than Kirby and making himself a co creator. |
If you goggle Jiki Magayi and John Tafida the result is a lot of write ups in Hausa language. I also found out that this book Jiki Magayi was co written by one John Moultrine East. This John East was said to have helped pioneer the writing of Hausa lamnguage in books. There is little information on these books . My suspicion is that John Tafida might have told the story to John East who now put it in written form. Still doesn't justify plagiarism by Ekwensi though. The original author should have been acknowledged and an explanation made that it was a translation. |
