Education › Re: Teacher Thrown Into Prison For Flogging Student In Lagos by Caveatemptor(m): 8:11pm On Nov 28, 2016
Nigeria is a violent country.
Our educational system is built on teaching through violence and it did not start today. Bullying or beating up children does not make them more intelligent or disciplined in my humble opinion.
I am old school and attended a missionary school back in the seventies, but the beatings we endured back in those days make this story seem a child's play. Not that this story is right. I will give examples of the kind of child abuse we endured in those days and you dare not report to your parents back then. You took your punishment and licked the wounds inflicted on you.

1.In the seventies,General Olusegun Obasanjo,as military head of state deployed soldiers to all schools in Lagos to maintain discipline. The soldier deployed to my school was a burly and tough staff Sergent named Riro. He was always dressed in a green and white track suit and welded a giant water came. If you came late to school,it was better if you went back home because 24 strokes of cane was guaranteed if Sergent Riro got hold of you. At times if students did not meekly take the strokes of cane,Riro would go physical with the student, dropping his cane and punching students. Imagine a mature soldier throwing jabs, left hooks and upper cuts at a student in form four or five. In fact on a certain day he cracked a blow on a student's jaw and the boy fainted. Teachers had to rush the student to the General hospital on Broad street(then Taking Gown street)after reviving him with water.

2..There was also a female teacher that used to abuse students both physically and verbally. If you committed an offence she would sit on a high chair, grab your two ears with her long nails and dig into your ears violently until you fell to your knees between her laps, all the time her finger nails were digging deep wounds into your ears, until your head was between her laps peering at her underwear. Then she starts the verbal abuse.
"Useless child, God has punished you today. So you are looking at my pants abi? Have you seen it? Do you like it?"
Then she would let go of your burning ears and deliver a smack with her open palm to your back.
Violence is a Nigerian culture in my opinion and the educational system is part of Nigeria

You see yourself? When you should have accepted that you didn't know exactly what SAF said, you went on insult and compounded your ignorance on the issue. That's usually the case when one has lost an argument or lost ideas, and refused to accept correction in humanity, the result is a resort to insults and personal attacks.

I told you Ferguson didn’t say Manchester City will not win the league in his lifetime. He is not daft to have said something like that. He said they wouldn't be the dominant team in his lifetime. He is correct because I don’t know when City will win 20 EPL titles. SAF made United dominant over Liverpool in his life time.

Receive sense.
Look at this pot calling kettle black.
You that trades insults as if it is going out of fashion.
Get your head out of Rooneys backside first, maybe you can reason properly to give a fair analysis.

As far as I am concerned, this title race is still wide open. Teams will drop points against each other. The title will not be won in November but next year in May/June.
This is marathon and not a hundred metres dash.
Mark my words. I not saying United will win it but they will finish in the Champions League places.

Stop telling lies.
Goggle is there and it is your friend.
In 2009 after Carlos Tevez left United to join City,Sir Alex made the statement that it would never happen in his life time.
This led Carlos Tevez to display the Sir Alex rest in peace banner after City won the title under Mancini.
The City management later apologised to Sir Alex on behalf of Carlos Tevez.
Some of us have retentive memories on issues concerning United because it is the only club I have ever and will ever support!

MrTA:
We also had SAF one of the greatest managers of all time performing minor miracles then. So maybe you're being a tad optimistic.
Whatever anyone says I am entitled to my opinion. We are playing good football even if we are not winning but drawing matches. Jose Mourinho is a winning coach and he will certainly get it right in the end. He only needs to get us into the champions league, then he will be able to sign the players he needs.
Support The club and the colours. Support the manager who I believe is doing a tremendous job no matter what any one says.
The Sir Alex days are gone for ever and he is not coming back. The sooner we as fans accept This and get behind our current manager the better for us.
We have had Moyes and the Iron Tulip as our managers and we sacked them after short periods. Van Gaal, even won us an FA cup,and we sacked him immediately after it.
Jose is building a team for the future and he WILL get it right if we give him the time. It might not be this season but he will get it right in the end. That I am 100% sure of!

I just can not for the life of me understand why Mata was subbed. He was our most dangerous player and Arsenal were doing Jack.
This is two points lost. And where did that extremely long added extra time come from?
I still believe This team is a good team capable of winning this league sooner or later.
Jose will get things right in the end. We just need to get behind the manager and support our colours.

Church on Nigeria is a business.
Simple. Getting money, money and more money is the objective of the pastors/shepherds/MOG/Daddies and mummies. The followers are cannon fodder and objectives to reach the aim of accumulation of wealth and more wealth. Open your eyes and realise that these pastors care about nobody except themselves and their next bank alert on their way to buying a new private jet!

@theyongest,
While it is good to be worried about our pets because they are a part of the family, sometimes these ailments are self inflicted.
We keep our pets chained down I'm one spot 24/7/365. It just isn't right. Pets need exercise. At times these ailments come from keeping these guys chained down or locked up in cages.
No form of exercise,no change of enviroment. It's like they are imprisoned.

My advise take your dog on long walks before feeding him/her.
Secondly, you might think of changing the kind of good you are feeding him,in my experience variety is the spice of a doggy dog life.
How would your appetite be if you were fed chicken and rice everyday?
My advice spice up the dogs diet. variety works better with some dogs and always give them multivitamins like indiet or dog food boosters.
Good luck.

Wow! A thread for old timers.
Ernest Okonkwo. RIP.
A sports encyclopedia.
In those days, radio commentary was the king because there was no DSTV.
We relied on commentary from Radio Nigeria for football matches. And even when matches were live on the NTA our parents made us mute the television commentary and made us put on the radio to listen to commentary from Radio Nigeria by Ernest Okonkwo.because his commentary was so vivid and colourful.
He practically gave every footballer of the day a nickname and it stuck.
Christian Chairman Chukwu.
Tangling Rasheed Gemini.
Mathematical Segun Odegbami.
Headmaster Mutiu Adepoju.
Elastic Humphrey Edobor.
Quicksilver Sylvania Okpala.
Blockburster Alloy Atuegbu.
Slow poison Idowu Otubusin.
Octopus Ogbein Fawole.
Last man Godwin Odiye.
Man mountain Emma Okala.
Hot shot Emmanuel Osigwe.
So many nicknames I cannot recall because it is over thirty years ago. Nostalgia, because every kid back in those days wanted to be like these footballers.
Ernest Okonkwo was such an important part of my youth. May he rest in peace!

Travel › Re: Why You Need To Make Bonny Island Your Next Travel Location by Caveatemptor(m): 5:40pm On Nov 12, 2016
@OP,
As others have posted, the pictures you posted and painted is the NNLG quarters, for foreign and local staffers of the NNLG. In those quarters there is apartheid, because certain areas are reserved for foreigners. I say this with all authority because I worked there in 2006 for about six months before I was transfered across the river to ALSCON in Akwa Ibom state. ALSCON which stands for Aluminium Smelting Company of Nigeria,is similar to NNLG in Bonny.
Beautiful residences built for the staffers with all comfortable amenities while the indigenous people of the vicinity wallow in abject poverty.
The 24 hours electricity is restricted to the NNLG and provided by gas turbines and not PHCN or NEPA,while ghettos like Finisima,Bonny town and Ikot Abasi wallow in abject poverty and darkness.
These are the main reasons for militancy in the Niger Delta.
Forcadoes in Delta State is another example of a developed town/city surrounded by abject poverty.
I know all these things because if you wanted to eat real local foods such as fresh fish,Banga soup and starch, you had to leave the developed cosmopolitan areas to the ghettos to eat proper African foods and while there you could sense the poverty, anger and tension of the indigenous people. The anger of the Niger Delta people in the swamps is real and can only be assuaged by proper development of the area by the government.

I learnt that most journalists conducting polls are liars and were secretly supporting Hillary Clinton, and were putting out fake polls in order to turn voters against Donald Trump.
I also learnt that one should never listen or believe what people who have their own hidden agenda tell you about yourself. Chase your dreams and aim for the stars, because you might touch the sky.

Interesting thread.
Why can't people leave each other alone to pursue whatever they want to believe in?
If a man wantsto be atheist or a Christian or a Muslim or a Sango/Ogun or Amadioha or the flying spaghetti monster or a cow worshipper, why can't he practice his belief in peace? Why must I worship what you belive in, or why must I be forced to worship what I do not believe in,because your religious book says so?
Why must you convert him to yourviews/point of view?
Seun, wants to be an atheist -so leave him alone and stop trying change his point of view.
The same thing with homosexuals and Lesbians,if a man wants to stick his private part up another mans arze or a woman wants another woman to use a cucumber or sex machine to service herself what is my business if she/he does not practice it with me.
Live and let live for goodness sake!

Lots of those containers are proceeds of money laundering, with no proper documentation.
Others contain out right prohibited or contraband items. Some have incurred port demurrage that is more than the value of the goods.
That is the main reason why the containers are abandoned.
I repeat customs is not culpable in this case,it is totally the fault of the importers. And I not a fan of the Customs.
