saint2ace: Hello Ceaser how do you know when Ur bank is full? Been charging since yesterday and it's stuck at 12.7v.
By the way, got the cable and accessories from AliExpress, so far it works okay on my laptop but really doesn't last, guess my 18650 batteries are bad.
Anyone with good deals on original 18650 batteries.? Bro, that stuff should not exceed 12.7v o. In fact the old one doesn't exceed 12.5v mark, but the newer ones reach 12.7v. Also your backup time can only be comparable to the stock batteries that came with your laptop. This is because it is the same configuration as 3s2p that most laptops come with. Hence your backup from the power bank will roughly be the same as your laptop's, total backup of the two should be double. Also the backup is a function of the battery capacity. I mostly have 2200mah 18650 batteries in my collection. There is one guy on NL that advertised selling 18650. Will locate the thread. |

simydan: I quite agree with you in the sense that LFP doesn't really need to be charged 100% full. Even at 14.4V it's still not at 100% that is why the BMS is very important to see that the battery doesn't achieve a 100% full charge, keeping it at 95% - 99% charged.
Its wise to keep your charge voltage under due to fact that your charging device may not have LFP charge function.
I just hope our LFP BMS are top notch to be able to save us from unforeseen situations that may arise due to mistakes or faulty chargers.
If you have opportunity to get a full charge is a plus since it's around 3.6V per cell and still very safe and doesn't affect battery life. I think early death of the battery from overcharge rather than the risk of explosion is about the only fear we can have when it comes to LFP. I can't say the same for Li-on. I have abused LFP to some extent without dire repercussions that I can have some confidence in the chemistry. For want of longer back up, I have parallel a 40ah 12.5v nominal LFP and another 40ah 13.5v nominal LFP. That's sone serious voltage mismatch alright. But it charges to 14.5v setting on the SCC and drops to 13.3v at sundown. After use for about 4 hrs, the voltage drops to 12.7v, it then gradually çlimbs up to 13.0v and remains there until about 5hrs when the second reduction begins. My guess with that anomalous voltage trend is that the bigger 13.5v pack begins to charge the smaller 12.7 nominal explains the initial rise after the initial 4hrs 12.7v drop, after which the two batteries reach an equilibrium at 13.0v and then another drop cycle commences. |

ojeysky: So I have been reading more about LFPs lately, it actually seems charging up to 14.5+ which is manufacturer max voltage may kill the battery faster. Charging to 13.8v (with float at 13.4 for those of us who are stuck with float settings) seem to be a sweat spot that is being suggested to put the battery. But the DC out voltage of the provided charger is 14.8v (for a 12.8v nominal battery). So I suppose 14.8v charge will be okay. Besides I noticed that the battery has more backup time when the max solar charging voltage gets to the 14.0v pre-set than if it stays at around 13.7v/13.8v on days that insolation is not maximum. |

aguiyi2: No one has bothered to explain how this virus affects humans? The primary (initial) mode of transmission is presumably from snake to human subject. Thereafter subsequent spread, secondary mode of transmission (which is solely responsible for the outbreak) is human-to-human transmission. It is a disease linked to respiratory symptoms, as such it can be spread through breathing in germs in the air. Such germs may have been coughed out from the mouth from an infected person (cough is one of the symptoms). Other symptoms include fever, chest pain, respiratory distress (difficulty breathing). Use of face masks, staying away from confirmed cases, frequent hand washing are some of the ways to control it and prevent the spread. Infected px are adviced to get handkerchiefs handy and cough into it when they have the urge to cough. In the absence of a handkerchief, cough etiquette can be done by coughing into your elbow. Nigeria may be in the eye of the storm because we have a fair population of Chinese living there. These may travel to their country (China) and come back to Nigeria. An infected individual could serve as an index case in Nigeria. Remember that the first recorded US case (Washington, Seattle) was a Chinese-American that travelled home to China and brought the disease back into the US. |

Topmost11: This is dry season and I need to constantly clean my panels. Pls do I need to disconnect the panel from the CC before cleaning with water or I can just go ahead while still connected. My question may seem stupid as someone may ask me, "do you disconnect during rains or don't you know it's tantamount to rain falling on it?" I ask because splash ing water on it is sudden, cooling it almost immediately and it getting hot again in minutes unlike during rainfall when weather would have cooled it off first and then gradually heat up as sun come back up
Incidentally a medicine shop in my vicinity got burnt few days ago; story is the inverter caused it though i have not been able to get true gist. My colleagues who I've been advising on the beauty and sense in solar are now skeptical. How do I convince them? The usual mopping stick. simydan: My LFP doesn't have alarm or display but I think the BMS is doing a great job. Though not yet connected to solar yet due to current resident but with the ac charger is rated 14.6v 20a.
The charger trips off at 14.4v and I noticed battery never goes above14.4v. So I'm guessing the BMS trips of charging once it gets to 14.4v. Yeah, I too guessed 14.4v as the safe limit which is why I initially programmed the bulk to 14.5v before it now starts tripping overvootage on me. I will try reprogramming to 14.2v and see how it goes. The 12v 60ah LFP I own doesn't seem to have an overvoltage alarm cos it has gotten to 14.5v (never past it) on many occasions without any alarm. |

I got the 12v 120ah for 155k. 12v 60ah for 80k. |

ojeysky: Okay I don't have that option in mine so I had to set manually. You may want to check that bulk voltage of yours as it may be under charging the cells maybe you push your bulk to 14.6. My system cells has a charge up to 3.65 per cell (Which is 29.2) when I kept both float and bulk at 28.8 I experienced occasional spikes to 29.1 but things were stable with current settings. The BMS overviltage alarm trips and beeps at around 14.5v and it switches off the charging and the battery output to the inverter. I think to be doubly sure, I'll measure the output voltage of the provided AC charger of the battery. |

JUO: There is believe in this forum that DOD does not affect lithium, this is not through. There is no battery that DOD does not have effect on. If you check lithium battery datasheet you will observe the graph decline from 100% DOD to a lesser number of cycles. Even higher charge/discharge have effect on the bms. Some will state 100A charge/discharge and at the same time put a recommended charge/discharge. Please note I am not saying lithium is bad in fact I will have 100ah/51.2v/5kwh and 12v/100ah/1330wh soon so if interested contact me Please at what prices bro? |

Dam5reey: Abeg, In conclusion we should use MC4 connectors or Just cut and join wires?
I'm thinking of MC4 connectors oo,
I remember when my panels were producing less power, I had to rejoin the wires after the wires on Yachi panel became Rusty and burnt, but the Yingli panel with aluminum coated remain intact no sign of rust at all.. Use MC4 bro. You have ease of re-configuring your panel in addition to getting secure contacts. Just make sure your system is not actively working when you wanna connect or disconnect your MC4s. |

ojeysky: So did you set both your float and bulk to 13.9v since lithium does not really use the float or bulk options? I currently have my float and bulk at 28.6 and 28.8 respectively. Just trying to figure whether to just put both at the same voltage level According to that SCC manual, the moment you select Lithium option as the charging parameter, the SCC algorithm disregards "float" setting and only reckons with the bulk charge, even though the float voltage is displayed when you go through the parameters, but it no longer takes part in the charging algorithm. 28.6v/14.3v and 28.8v/14.4v is about the setting I had mine which trips the overvootage protection alarm of the LFP. The battery charges to 14.4v and holds there alright, but I realize that when the sun gets momentarily brighter/hotter, the voltage transiently (for like 2 or 3 seconds) shoot to the 14.5v mark and this time is sufficient enough for the battery BMS overvoltage alarm to trip. So I kukuma selected the lithium parameter, then reduced the bulk of it to 13.9v. Float voltage is inactive at Lithium setting. In fact before I travelled few days ago, I increased the bulk to 14.0 volts. |

But you'll have a number of limitations with this one bro. No room for tweaking to get improved feedback from it. The charger is just 40amps. Meanwhile that LFP can take greater charge power you throw at it. But sha, Omo, see as dem write that DoD for the spec. DoD: 100%, no wahala. |

Contrary to other energy storage types, no frequent nursing or caressing of that battery the moment you get the charging requirements right. And the feedback LFP gives you is exhilarating, it's like being high on some powerful stimulant. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 10:36pm On Jan 19, 2020 |
ojeysky: Is it really possible to avoid joining totally? For instance in my all series setup, I still had to cut the cable so as to extend the stock mc4 I avoid joining wires with panels, especially the roof mounted. If I need wires extended, I simply construct extension wires using male and female MC4s and a commensurate guage wire. I've even had cause to construct branching MC4 wires one time like that when I needed one for parallel connection on emergency basis. My experience with one small install that the wire gave way to the elements after about two consecutive rainy and dry season taught me some lessons. The generous use of tape did not prevent the problem and the tape simply gave way, rain/moisture came in, alternated with drying/severe dessication and heat during the dry seasons and then the wires began to get brittle and simply smouldered off at the joint. Shrink tubing can give some pretty solid insulation but I doubt if it would keep moisture away 100% without added use of silicone gels. |

Another thing I hate is having to change configuration on the roof anytime you alter/change your inverter. As for me i can change inverter frequently. 1kva today, 5kva the following week. Client cal again and request for 48v, I then change to 3.5kva/24v then 10kva. Thank God for Mppt I for suffer. 12v today 48v tomorrow If I understand you, does this imply that if I have a 12v set up with MPPT SCC in the mix, I can also make 6pcs 18v 150watts panel config 3s2p rather than 2s3p and still be within the safe SCC output voltage to charge the 12v battery? I thought peeps say that the sweet spot for a system when using an MPPT SCC is "2 times" the voltage of the system, i.e. 12v battery/24v solar input, 24v battery/48v solar input etc. |

mctfopt: Awesome, the cells link connection gauge wire doesn't look less than 10mm². They also ran a 6s2p connection with I guess a LiFePO4 Battery Prismatic Cells. Though a lil rough, it appears solidly built. I hope they used a top-notch BMS. Have you considered changing the crocodile clip to a cable lug to ensure a tighter connection? Thanks for sharing the picture. It's actually 4s4p config. I assume each LiPo cell is 30ah. I believe the BMS is one helluva tough. It's inside a shrink tubing just in front of the whole battery pack, behind the digital meter. The crocodile clip is from the AC charger (that green box thingy). Two days ago, I took delivery of a lug pack that I ordered off of AE. Unfortunately I ordered the wrong sizes. They were all smaller than the battery terminal. |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 1:07am On Jan 18, 2020 |
ceaser: Lithium of all types give impressive performance cycle-wise, charge-wise and DoD-wise.
Even though what you put in as charge is what you should expect to get as discharge, you don't need to be afraid if you are unable to charge it to full every blessed day cos it has no sulphation problems.
DoD, well, for the 3 years I've been a user of lithium iron on various small levels, 100% DoD has not really been harmful to the battery in the way it will affect lead acid. Of course the recharge cycles of Lithium is not unaffected by the DoD, but it is not something that steals your sleep like lead acid does.
It tolerates high recharge current and not beset by the recharge current limit problems of lead acid chemistry.
However as you have 10,000 cycle lithium, so also do you have 5,000 and even 300 cycles lithium. It's part of quality determinants and a seller may claim 300 cycle as 5,000 and sell it to you as such.
In terms of safety profile, charge density, DoD, and of course cost: - Lithium titanate > LFP > Lithium Iron. Still speaking of the cost and life cycle of the Lithiums

mctfopt: Thank you for the comprehensive reply, you just answered my question on why I wanted to know the MPPT SCC, I wanted to see if it has features like ability to set charging voltage, as mistakes in charging voltage can lead to the failure of the expensive batteries. Do share with us when the battery gets back to the market. Thank you. In my own case, the manual says once you edit any settings on the SCC and after saving it, you need to disconnect it from the battery and re-connect for the new settings to take effect. I don't know if yours will follow the same manner. Pls note that you either do that at sundown or if you must do it at daytime, ensure you first switch off your solar panel-SCC MCB or disconnect your solar panels from the SCC before you even think of disconnecting the SCC from the battery. All my senses were extra alert when I was doing that, all in an effort not to commit that easy-to-make mistake. |
