The EFCC on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, arraigned the duo of James Ogwuche Alex and Oklewu Ene Gina before Justice B.O Quadri of the Federal High Court,Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a 2-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only (N250, 000).

The petitioner, Professor Ndubuisi Eye, alleged that the suspects who are both students of Benue State Polytechnic hoodwinked him through an e-mail from a purported old friend by name Engineer Bartholomew requesting him to pay Two hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250, 000).to an account number which he did.

The body of three-time heavyweight champion and outspoken civil rights activist, Muhammad Ali, has arrived in his hometown of Louisville - where he'll be laid to rest. An airplane carrying his casket, which was wrapped in a black cloth bearing Arabic scripture in gold on it, arrived from Arizona, ahead of a public funeral procession and service expected to draw huge crowds.
The Ali' Family spokesman Bob Gunnell says his body was accompanied by his wife, Lonnie, and other family members and friends. Once the body was offloaded, Police escorted the casket from the airport to the funeral home.

A report recently released shows that 51% of senators have in the past year not sponsored a single bill. This means that 53 out of the available 103 senators are yet to sponsor a bill.

This report was provided by a non-governmental organisation, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and it focused on Bill Charts in the upper legislative chamber.

It will be recalled that the 8th Senate was inaugurated on June 9, 2015 which makes it almost a year in which they’ve been in office.

Magu Pledges to Examine Corruption in IDP Camps. The police in Owerri on Monday arrested some 17 members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) for holding a road show in commemoration of 49th anniversary of Biafra.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the arrests, said those arrested would be prosecuted.

The MASSOB members began the march at Waterside Primary School, Owerri, from where they moved to Rotibi Street to Oguamana Street before linking Douglas Road.

At Douglas Road the marchers met heavily armed security men, who threw teargas at them at Ama JK end of the street and arrested some.

Mr Okechukwu Nwogu, a leader of MASSOB, said it was regrettable that the police arrested members of the group who were on a peaceful march to commemorate the 49th anniversary of Biafra and 17th anniversary of MASSOB.

“What Nigeria government is doing to us is very unfair; MASSOB is a non-violent group moving without arms in remembrance of our history.

`Nwogu called on Igbo leaders to come out and speak for Igbo people being unjustly treated by security forces.

Earlier Chief Canice Anojuru, the spokesman for MASSOB in Owerri zone, said the group decided to hold the road show to awaken the consciousness of the people of the defunct Biafra.

Anojuru said the road show was to draw the attention of international community to the plight of Biafra people.

He added that the group had achieved a lot despite obvious challenges.

On the recent invasion of Nimbo community in Enugu state by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the group advised the people of south-east to be more vigilant to forestall future attacks in the area.

“As a group, we frown at the rate at which human beings were killed and maimed, farmlands destroyed, women raped, and buildings razed by these Fulani herdsmen.

“We are calling on all people of Southeast area to be more vigilant and extra careful over this recent development,’’ Anojuru said.

The group advised people of the area to be careful in engaging people whose identity were not clear to them as security men, gardeners and house-keepers. (NAN)

The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind, a non-profit organisation established for the rehabilitation and training of adults and adolescents living with vision impairment in Nigeria held an event to raise fund and celebrate the blind on 28 May, 2016 at the Muson Centre, Lagos.

This year's event tagged "Masked May Ball" had activities like fashion show by Bumi Deju, a celebrity auction featuring Sola Sobowale, Fathia Balogun and Stephanie Okereke-Linus.

The celebrities were auctioned off, for the highest bidder to win a blind dinner date for two with the celebrity) and a raffle draw to win exotic gifts. Nigerian British-born singer and songwriter, Tonye was also at the event to celebrate and entertain guests.

FNSB main aim is to restore lost hope, ignite confidence and raise champions who can live productively, independently and contribute to the socio-economic growth of society. We are funded by philanthropic donations. We equip students to learn Braille, mobility skills, computer skills and vocational skills such as basket weaving, tie-dye, music and shoe-making and prepare students for higher learning in university.

To date, they have positively impacted the lives of about 2500 visually impaired Nigerians, raising champions.

It was an amazing night of great food, fun and sharing.
