PoliticsMore Photos Of The New Private Jet Pastor Adeboye Bought by ceometromedia(op): 8:07am On Sep 16, 2015

Yesterday, Sahara Reporters reported that pastor Adeboye bought himself a brand new Gulfstream G550 luxury jet. Below is part of SR's report

"Pastor Adeboye's Gulfstream G550 luxury jet was manufactured in Savannah, Georgia State in the US. The jet, which was made in 2013 is far newer than the one bought by Pastor TB Joshua. Pastor Adeboye took delivery of his brand new jet in May 2015. e learned that, with the arrival of the US-registered jet, N730EA Gulfstream G550, Pastor Adeboye has jettisoned an older Gulfstream GIV with tail number N707EA that used to ferry him around the world on his preaching missions. Our sources said the leader of the Redeemed Church personally owns Emmanuel Aviation to which the two jets are registered both in the US and Nigeria.

A source just sent me exclusive photos of the alleged private jet. In the photos sent to me, the cleric boldly emblazoned his initials 'EA' alongside the RCCG logo of a dove on the tail of the plane. See the photos after the cut...

PoliticsReno Omokri Writes On Buhari's Recent Appointments by ceometromedia(op): 9:44am On Sep 08, 2015
The article is by former presidential aide, Reno Omokri. Read below...

Recently there was a big uproar about the appointments made by President Buhari. I disagreed with those who complained that the President's appointment were lopsided. Appointments should not be made on the basis of ethnicity, region or religion. Appointments should be made strictly on merit! As far as I am concerned, the President can appoint all his appointees from the same state as long as they are the best Nigeria has to offer.

In 2013, Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations. That victory was only possible because we selected our best players.

A large proportion of the squad were from the Southeast and Southsouth including Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide, Chigozie Agbim, Joseph Yobo, Elderson Echiejile, Kenneth Omuero, Efe Ambrose, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Godfrey Oboabona, Mikel Obi, Reuben Gabriel, Nosa Igiebor, Obiora Nwankwo, Brown Ideye, Ogenyi Onazi, while Ejike Uzoenyi, Victor Moses, Ikechukwu Uche, Sunday Mba and Emmanuel Emenike.

Nobody complained that this squad was lopsided because we knew these were our best and if we wanted to win we had to present our best. At the end of the day they brought home the cup and that was all that mattered.

In the same vein, nobody should complain about where Buhari's appointees come from. What we should insist on is that they are appointed on the basis of merit and that at the end of 2019 they must bring home the cup by giving Nigerians good governance that will yield tangible democracy dividends.

Nigerians are always quick to say the problem with Nigeria is corruption, but I am not so sure it is.

Corruption is a symptom of the problem but it in itself is not the problem.

Corruption is the catarrh coming out of Nigeria's nose. If you experience catarrh you do not treat it by merely cleaning your nose. The discharge will just keep coming because you are treating the symptom not the cause.

The way to treat catarrh is by treating its root cause which is the common cold.

What is the common cold that is causing the discharge of mucous from Nigeria's nose?

In my humble opinion, it is quota system and the principle of federal character.

Federal character and quota system are the root cause of corruption in Nigeria.

As long as ethnicity is the yardstick for admitting children into schools or recruiting adults into the civil service, we will never have a merit driven system and where we do not have a merit driven system, the end result will be corruption.

President Muhammadu Buhari means well in his anti corruption battle, but if a civil servant has to report to someone who is less qualified than him and who only got his position because of quota system or federal character, his morale would be low and he will not be committed and when opportunity presents itself to be corrupt, that civil servant will seize it and he will not feel sorry or guilty.

As long as there is no level playing field in Nigeria, none of our anti corruption efforts will work. We will merely be cleaning rye discharge of mucous from our nose. There cannot be a successful anti corruption war in the midst of social injustice.

Nigerians are not by nature correct. It is the Nigerian system that is by nature corrupt.

The other day the Federal Ministry of Education released cut off marks for unity schools and the cut off Mark for one state is 138 out of 200 while the cut off mark for another state is 4 out of 200.

This is not a joke! This is a reality in modern day Nigeria in the year 2015 and I kid you not!

Right there and then Nigeria has planted the seed of corruption in the heart of the child from the 138/200 state and the seed of entitlement in the heart of the child from the 4/200 state.

Any system that is not built on merit cannot but be corrupt. It is a fact of life and those who do not like this inconvenient truth can get as angry as they like with me and people like me, but that will not change the truth.

Whether we like to say it or not or whether we choose to pretend it does not exist, the truth remains that so many groups in Nigeria feel alienated by quota system and federal character.

We have grand plans as a nation of being amongst the top 20 biggest economies of the world by 2020, but which of the countries amongst the current top 20 economies has a system like ours?

The answer is none.

The G 7 nations of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States along with their partner nations of China and Russia are constantly competing with each other in the areas of early childhood to high school education.

If the educational pass rates of children in America is slipping when compared to that of other nations in the G-7, it will become a major electoral issue.

The influential Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) releases a regular triennial study of global education systems and these nations keenly compete to outdo each other in these rankings.

Now, how can Nigeria expect to join their ranks and compete internationally when we do not even allow fair competition domestically?

Are we going to write a letter to the G-7 or the OECD telling them that is not fair to expect us to compete with them and ask them to lower the standards for us?

I don't think so!

Merit is the way. No, I take that back. Merit is the ONLY way. And I thank God that we have a President with the foresight to base his appointments solely on merit.

That is a beginning, now we must ensure that merit is also applied to admission into government schools and recruitments into the public service.

The staff of Nigerdock (Snake Island) on Friday had a peaceful protest, where they complained to the management of the company about series of unfair sacking and delayed salaries. The protest however continued this morning, Monday, 7th of September, in a bid to be heard. The management who had sensed the protest would continue this morning had invited the police, who came in this morning, and teargased the workers.

The unsuspecting workers had to flee for their lives as no one could stand the threats of the police men. See more exclusive photos below.

EducationTeenage Girls Disappear For Fear Of Repeating Class In Lagos (Photo) by ceometromedia(op): 9:28am On Sep 07, 2015
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Abiodun-640x346.png

Two teenage girls left home recently to check the results of their promotional examinations to Senior Secondary School (SS2) but have not returned home since. However, the disappearance of the two friends, Janet Abiodun (18) and Evenly Apalowe (17), has plunged their family members into anxiety.

The girls, both students of New Era Girls Secondary School, Surulere, Lagos, were believed to have gone to hiding because they reportedly failed the examinations. Janet’s aunt, Mrs Olufolake Oyinloye, said she waited for her for a long time, thinking she might have been kept busy in school. Oyinloye, however, became worried when it was night and there was no sign of the girl.

According to her, Janet did not own a phone, so there was no way to even call her. She said: “The following day, I went to one of her friends, Evelyn’s home. I was shocked to discover that she too had not been seen. I have searched everywhere for her. I have also called her friend’s parent in Osun State to confirm if they were there.

I do not think it is a crime to repeat a class. That is why she ran away. “I went into her room to check if she dropped a note, but there was nothing. She did not take anything in the house. I just do not understand her reason for running away.” Oyinloye recalled that when Janet collected her first term result, she had given her some gifts and urged her to do better next time.

Asked if Janet might have a lover, Oyinloye said no, stressing that the girl sworn to her that she was a virgin. She said: “The girl is my cousin. She has been living with me since December 22, 2013; after I saw the manner she was being treated by her father. I told my elder sister to persuade her to come and live with me. That was how she got to my place.

“I am not the harsh type. The only time I would say I scolded her was when she collected her second term result and hid it from me. What my children eat is what I used to give to her. I don’t discriminate between her and my children. I don’t know why she ran away? Oyinloye said she went to Janet’s school to find out if she had committed any offence, but was told by her teacher that after the students collected their results, one of her friends, whom they used to walk home together, told her that they should start heading home, but Janet refused, insisting that she wanted to walk with Evelyn. Since then nobody had seen the girls. She added: “Three days after they left home, Evelyn called her father on phone, saying she was in Ibadan.

But since then, the phone line had not been going through again. Evelyn’s aunt told me that the girl had left home once. She was sure Evelyn would soon return home.” Oyinloye said she also went to Area ‘C’ Police Command, where she reported Janet missing.

PropertiesThat’s Not Inside The Abuja Mansion Of Africa’s Richest Man, Dangote by ceometromedia(op): 10:40am On Sep 02, 2015
https://i0.wp.com/ynaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/100-Million-New-York-City-Mansion-Kitchen.jpg?w=696
Some random website on the internet called Africa Cradle put up pictures of what they say is Aliko Dangote’s house. Even our very own Aunty Linda jumped on the pictures as well. I mean, who doesn’t love a sweet little listicle?

According to Africa Cradle,

Africa Cradle was granted rare access into Africa’s richest man’s home, which he is putting up for sale in northern Abuja. Mr. Dangote has called this place home for a good twelve years, and he said he is selling the property because he has just completed a new piece of real estate in the United Kingdom, where he is switching to after putting ink to paper on a deal to purchase the london based Arsenal Football Club. Mr. Dangote is actually an avid soccer supporter, contrary to many people’s expectations, and he said he was looking forward to watching all the Arsenal matches from the Emirates Stadium after closing the deal. “I have to be there! I have to be there.” He said, with a rare smile on his face.

Small problem, that’s all a lie.

We at www.metronaija.com did some internet research about the photos. That majestic living room is actually in the Woolworth mansion in New York
https://i0.wp.com/ynaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-02-at-9.25.51-AM.png?resize=640%2C408
The kitchen? Oh, that’s just belongs to American investor Vincent Viola, who owns the Florida Panthers NHL team, and it’s tucked in the Upper East Side with the rest of the Gossip Girl crew
https://i2.wp.com/ynaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-02-at-9.45.40-AM.png?resize=640%2C340
The fancy walkway? That’s from another New York mansion

The absolutely gorgeous bathroom? Oh, that’s from NBA player John Wall’s house. The office is from some house owned by American actor Jeremy Renner.
https://i0.wp.com/ynaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-02-at-10.03.54-AM.png?resize=640%2C523
In fact, the only picture in the whole set that might be Dangote’s is this one.
https://i0.wp.com/ynaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/dangote-mansion-718x404.jpg?resize=640%2C360
And it probably isn’t because it looks like some house I’ve seen in Ikoyi NOT Abuja.

I feel like I just found out Jesus isn’t real.

UPDATE: Look’s like Aunty Linda took the post down

CelebritiesI Have Six Children From Different Women- Segun Arinze by ceometromedia(op): 8:42am On Sep 02, 2015
https://media.today.ng/entertainment/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/segun-arinze.jpg

His persona is a paradox: he can be sinistral; he can be sexy. He can strike you as roguish and leave you with weak knees when he is romantic. Deft in singing and acting, Segun Arinze excels in words and actions. His mellifluous voice, his methodical acting and consistent five-star performances on stage, in concerts and silver screen have kept him going in the last 35 years. His appetite for sterling performances, roles is as bulging as his trademark eyeballs.
Unmistakable in the crowd, Arinze thrills his fans and critics with equal ecstasy. Born to a Yoruba father and an Igbo mother, the Nollywood superstar who hails from Badagry, Lagos State, also speaks in tongues: he speaks Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. The multi-talented artiste, who is a former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, in this interview with Oge Ezeliora, talks about his failed marriage with Ann Njemanze, his new wife, kids and fashion
Many people believe you are a bad guy because of the scary movies you always star in. What is your take on this?
Well, if many people think that I am bad by virtue of the role I play, then it’s a total misconception. There is always a difference between the character you play and who you are in real life. I am a very simple person; I like simplicity and I like to take things easy. I like humour a lot. I am also a serious-minded person.

If you are that “simple” in real life as you said, how come you are able to perfectly put up such menacing acts in movies?
My training as an actor requires that you just do your job. It’s a job. I am what you may call a method actor. I pick up a role having in mind that in life, there are different kinds of characters and you pick up one and say this is how I see this character and I go ahead to recreate the character.

So why do you think producers like that you play the bad guy roles?
Hmmm…first, it has to do with my eyes. I think that when I open them wide enough, it’s got this mean, menacing look when I am playing these roles. But I am not a stuck character. I have always said that Nigerian movie producers and directors always want to feature one in a particular character when they see that you are good at it. Like, they go for Justice Esiri, Olu Jacobs or Pete Edochie, if they are looking for a person to play a chief. Lover-boy roles, they go for Richard Mofe Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Bob-Manuel, et cetera. An actor needs to break out sometimes and say, ‘I don’t want to do this, I am an actor!’ Granted, there are some roles you may not be suited for, but you can try it. For me, it’s totally unacceptable to be stuck in one role. I am a trained actor and I can fit in anywhere.

It has been said that a lot of mediocrity abound in Nollywood; the movie industry has become an all-comers. What do you think?
Mediocrity is not a birthright of Nollywood alone. You see it in all other professions including yours –journalism. You also find mediocrity in law and medical practice. It’s not the fight for only actors. The marketers, directors and others have a larger share of the blame. I believe with time, we will be able to separate the men from the boys.

Have you had the opportunity to play other roles?
I did in ‘Atlanta’ with Grace Amah. I’ve done ‘Widow’ and people like my character in it. I have played other roles as well like a father, and so on.

Have you ever played a lover-boy role before?
Yes, I have done that with Stella Damascus. I don’t see myself as a stuck actor because it kills you; most especially when you are growing to be a brand. It affects the person especially when a company is looking for whom to work with. We haven’t got to that level yet when people will understand that this person is just doing his job. It has really hurt me in the past as corporate sponsors would say that I do not fit their brand. You can just imagine that. It hurts.

As a multi-talented artiste, what do you think producers need to do to improve on the quality of movies in Nigeria?
Hmm…. So many things! Let me start with the storyline. Script writers should endeavour to think properly and work on the story idea before production. Today, we have so many movies with bad storyline. There are some movies that are not supposed to be shown on Africa Magic. Recently, I ended on the floor, rolling as I laughed my butt out.
I was so angry watching a movie that a girl went blind and her mother paralysed and in order to make ends meet she started to sell recharge cards. Pray, how does she know what denomination of cards to sell being blind!? Na all di kain nonsense dey give Nollywood bad name. A blind girl selling recharge cards? Hiaaaan! God help us! Nollywood needs to improve seriously. If it is possible for the government to invest in the industry, assist producers to come out with something unique. Yes, they should help us. We are no more in the era of when things are bad. Nollywood has expanded to a great extent. So, we should act good quality movies that will give us good names.

Now, when you get a script, what is the first thing you do?
First, I read through it, understand the character, and then decide if I want to play the role or not.

Are you saying that the money offered don’t sometimes entice you into doing a particular movie?
Sometimes, the story is very good and it doesn’t affect the payment. I just do it because I know that if I do it, it will fetch me another job. Sometimes I do it and insist on the payment. If the script is not good, I say it and refuse to do it. Dem no dey kill person put. Abi? I go say I no dey do, na by force? I have turned down so many scripts. This year alone, I have turned down almost 10 scripts.

So, how many movies have you shot this year?
A few.

Why?
This is so because I didn’t accept all the jobs that came my way. I tell them to send the scripts; I read through them and if I don’t like it, I send it back saying, I don’t like it. You have got to position yourself as an actor. You have got to make a statement; you don’t just act because everyone is acting. I will rather starve to keep my quality but, I know I won’t starve because I know God has blessed me immensely with so much talent. Over-talent dey worry me (laughs). You understand?

And what are these talents?
Voice-over, singing, public relation works, quite a number of them. When it’s time for me to drop a script, I do it.

How expensive are you?
The honest truth is that you can’t place a worth on yourself; there is no price tag. You can never ever get what you are worth but, what you negotiate.

What is the highest pay you have received so far?
I don’t reveal such publicly.

So, would you disclose the lowest you ever received?
No, I won’t. You can use your imagination to know whether I am in the six figure area.

You have knack for voice-over which you do pretty well. When and how did this begin?
Thanks. It was many years back in the late 80’s and early 90s. I used to watch the CNN and listen to radio. I would hear Sony Irabor, Mani Onumonu, Osaze Iyamu, talk. So, I started working with my friends Tunde Ajidejidu, alongside Kingsley Ogoro. Before then though, I did a little of voice training while at the University of Ife.
One day, I told them that I would like to try some voice-overs which I did well. Since then, if anyone came to complain that they didn’t have a voice-over artiste, Kingsley would say ‘Get Segun Arinze then’. It was not for money; it was like that till I met Sony Irabor who was a very big influence; he came to us, wanted a voice-over artiste. I was called and naturally he produced me, telling me how to pronounce words and all that. I was having fun and getting paid at the same time. I did voice-over for this same people I hold in high esteem. I listened to lot of radio to make sure I pronounce the words very well.

Between music and acting which came first?
Both came together.

How do you mean? I remember your album ‘Nwanyi Yanga’, did you start singing before you went into acting?
I have been acting before I even went into music. I was doing stage plays with Anunsa Play House. I was doing something with Tade Ogidan where we did ‘Boys Next Door.’ ‘Nwanyi Yanga’ came out in 1992 and it’s the only album I have done till date.

Why?
Well, because I was frustrated out of music then. Also, it was not lucrative as it is now. But, that’s not to say I will want to do an album because it is lucrative. It’s because I feel the need to sing, that’s why I want to do it. I have an album now, released on O’Jez Music label.

Let’s talk about your love life. You were once married to Ann Njemanze (of ‘Domitilla’ fame). What triggered the break-up?
The marriage kaput!

Is that how you are going to put it?
Well, what do you want me to say? It kaput over 10 years ago; time flies – doesn’t it?

What makes a good actor?
What makes a good actor? Talent, first! And being able to adapt and interpret the role you are given. That’s what makes a good actor.

What do you like best about being an actor?
It is the fact that I can live different lives. I can play different roles and in the process learn. For me, it’s a learning process. Every day, you learn different things because the actor is the most powerful man on planet earth. At every point in time, he plays different roles – he can be an engineer; he can be a doctor and he’s learning things. If the script is well researched and well written, you learn a lot of other things as well.

What’s the greatest thing that being an actor has done for you?
The greatest thing that acting has done for me? Well, it’s the platform it has provided for me and for people to see me showcase my talent, tell the world stories in different forms and in different shapes and getting to meet people both high and mighty and at the grass roots. So, that’s it. The most important thing about the actor is telling the truth and believing the truth. The truth is the most important thing for the actor.

Most people attain success in acting but they lose it along the way. Where do you think they normally get it wrong?
Where they get it wrong is when you start being false; when you start pretending to yourself. You can deceive everybody all the time, but you can’t deceive yourself every time. So, when you don’t deceive yourself, when you tell yourself the truth and when you stay above your game, when you try at every point, at every curve, to be relevant, you turn at that curve.

It has elbows and so when you get to that elbow, you need to slow down and manipulate yourself through the elbow and get back on the straight road. So, when you miss that, when you get to the elbow and you get too arrogant, you fall off the cliff. So, you need to keep your head level; you need to be humble and you need to learn. You talk less, you listen more and then it works for you.

What’s the greatest mistake that most actors make?
It is pretending to themselves and living false lives, I think.

You’ve been acting for the past 35 years. What would you say has kept you going?
First and foremost, it is God. Also, my talent; pushing and trying to keep myself relevant and being above board have all helped.

What distinguishes Segun Arinze as an actor; what separates you from the other actors? What separates me?
I guess my style. My own way of doing my own thing that works for me. That’s what separates me from everybody.

How would you describe that style?
I like doing things differently; my own way –sometimes, in a crazy way. I like being mature about how I handle things.

How much of a family man are you?
I am 100 per cent a family man. I love my family. That’s the first and foremost thing.

Tell us about your family?
I’m married to a lovely woman called Julie. I have children.

What are their names?
Em…from my wife (Julie), I have Ayo, Femi and my new baby daughter, Victoria Ejiamatu. And, of course, before then, you know I had a son and then we had Morenike between Ann and me. I also have Ebunoluwa.

Acting has done a lot for you, what has it not done for you?
What has acting not done for me? Hmmm! That’s a very tough question to ask. What has acting not done for me? I think acting has done everything for me. Seriously! To be honest with you, acting has done everything for me because without being an actor, we won’t be having this conversation today. That’s it! So, it’s done everything for me and I thank God.

Away from work, what does Segun Arinze do for relaxation? What keeps you busy when you are not working?
I like listening to a lot of music; I like reading; I like exploring, reading, particularly on the Internet, where you find everything. Researching, asking questions and I like talking politics a lot. I love politics a lot.

You have been noticed to be fashionable. How fashionable are you?
My mood determines that most times. I am choosy about what I wear; what makes me comfortable. I go for quality not quantity. I am not your everyday man-about-town. I pick where I go. I am not particularly a jewellery person but, I wear them sometimes.

How rich are you?
I am comfortable; I worked hard to be where I am today.

Why was your TV show, ‘No-Holds-Barred’ taken off air?
Politics affected it; I guess I wasn’t mature enough to know the intricacies of doing a talk show. I understand better now. I am not talking about the content but the behind-the-scene events. A lot of people were not too happy with it because they thought I was hitting too hard, even from the top. I guess I got into trouble after I interviewed Asari Dokubo in 2005. I am very equipped now and we would be coming out soon.

Three suspected drug traffickers have been nabbed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos State, after swallowing 233 wraps of powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine with a weight of 5.05 kilogrammes.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the suspects were apprehended during an outward screening of passengers by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

Two of the suspects, Obiekwe Frank Chuma and Okoye Jacob Okwuchukwu, were going to Hong Kong while Chukwunyere Prince Emmanuel was caught on his way to Italy.

Obiekwe Frank Chuma, who said that he used to be a textile merchant before he suffered financial setback, declared:

“I lost my father when I was at Merchant of Light Secondary School between 1983 and 1988. I was given admission at Edo State University but dropped out in 300 level due to lack of sponsorship.

"In 1997, I came to Lagos and started textile business. Later, I began to buy my goods from Czech Republic and Hong Kong before my business suffered setback. In the process of looking for assistance, I was introduced into drug trafficking. I was given the drug in a restaurant in Onitsha and they promised to pay me $10,000. It took me eight hours to swallow the drugs but I was arrested at the airport.”

Okoye Jacobs Okuchukwu said that he met his sponsor at a wedding ceremony.

“I have a Diploma in Computer Science at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu. I used to import textiles from Dubai and Hong Kong. My business was flourishing and I have travelled to Hong Kong over 15 times. I later had problem that took my capital and I was stranded. That was what led me into drug trafficking.

"I was forced to swallow drugs for many hours in order to continue with my textile business. They promised to pay me over one million naira.”

Chukwunyere Prince Emmanuel said that he smuggled drugs to settle his bills.

“I am a businessman. I supply teaching materials. Armed robbers attacked me and I lost one of my eyes in the process. As I speak, I owe over N15 million. I am unable to pay my rent, my children’s school fees and even feeding. I have no rest of mind because my creditors are on my neck daily. This is my first time of trafficking drugs and I was promised 4,000 euros.”

NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, who gave a breakdown of the seized drugs, declared;

“Obiekwe Frank Chuma, 47 years old, ingested 80 wraps weighing 1.930 kilogrammes during screening of Emirates passengers; Okoye Jacob Okwuchukwu, 43 years old, was found to have ingested 70 wraps weighing 1.515 kilogrammes during screening of passengers on an Etihad flight while Chukwunyere Prince Emmanuel, 39 years old, ingested 83 wraps weighing 1.605 kilogrammes.
"Emmanuel was going to Bologna in Italy through Frankfurt on Lufthansa. They have voluntarily recorded their statements and our investigators are working on their cases.”
