Politics › Anambra 2014: Ubah Picks LP Form by chaloner(op): 1:34am On Jun 29, 2013
Frontline gubernatorial aspirant and chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah yesterday registered himself formerly as a card-carrying member of the Labour Party (LP).

Ubah who stormed Otolo Nnewi Ward I of the party in Nnewi North Local Government Area chapter of the party in Anambra State at about 1 p.m, with his crowd of supporters, was received on arrival at the Ward I office of the party located inside Okpuno Community Hall by the Obi of Okpuno, Chief Emeka Okafor and party ward executives.

He was guided through the registration processes and signing of necessary documents by the chairman of the party in Otolo Nnewi Ward I, Amobi Nkeirumonye and the secretary, Mr. Emeka Adirika who later issued him with a membership registration card No. 0018073.

Ubah and his supporters later moved to Nnewi North Local Government party office along Owerri Road, Nnewi where promised to assist the executive in furnishing the empty office complex. He at once moved to the state party office in Awka and addressed the mammoth crowd.

In his speech, Ubah explained the rationale behind his decision to contest the 2014 governorship race on the platform of the LP.

He explained that the race to Government House Awka is virtually a contest among four major political parties namely: Labour, PDP, APGA, and ACN (APC), adding, “as already stated, AGPA is in crisis. PDP is also in crisis. ACN or APC is in a trance, so, what remains is Labour”.

Ubah said he believed that his ambition would be better realised in a party with one spirit and a party that affiliates with the yearnings of the masses, a people oriented party, adding, “I strongly believe too, that I will outshine other candidates aspiring to use the same Labour platform to achieve their governorship ambitions during the party primary”.

Responding, the state chairman of the party, Sam Oraegbunam commended Ubah for his wise decision and assured him that he would realise his ambition in Labour which is structured for better and for success.

Celebrities › Iyanya Took Advantage Of Me – Yvonne Nelson by chaloner(op): 1:25am On Jun 29, 2013
After several months of silence and denial, Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, is admitting that she actually had a romantic relationship with music sensation, Iyanya Mbuk.

In an online chat, the Ghanaian actress admitted her romance with the musician, saying; “I think it’s time my fans get to know the whole truth, so I’m going to let it all out. I dated one person here; he’s in the industry. There were too many lies in the relationship. I found out a whole lot of things and I just felt like he took advantage of me.”

Iyanya-Mbuk-and-Yvonne-Nelson

Opening up further on the romance, she said her relationship with Iyanya crashed because of his infidelity. Yvonne maintained that aside the actress in the picture, she was said to be at loggerheads with Tonto Dikeh over Iyanya’s heart, adding that Iyanya was all lies.

“We dated for seven to eight months. We had something and I thought it was special, like he was a wonderful guy but it was all lies. He had other girls and other things he was doing. Aside the actress (Tonto) that was in the picture, there were a lot more. That is how bad it was. We were in a relationship and he lied throughout and he was able to do all those things because I wasn’t living in Nigeria. But aside from the distance, I feel if you’re a genuine person and you’re loyal, you would still not do that. There was also a girl from South Africa, I’m not going to mention names but she was part of Big Brother Africa last year,” Yvonne said.

The story that she had been dating the musician had been going on for over a year and despite pictures of the two all over the Internet, they refused to confirm their relationship. It was later gathered that another actress, Tonto Dikeh, was also dating the handsome musician. Iyanya has refused to respond to messages sent to his phone about the break-up.

Politics › CIA Moving Arms To Jordan For Syria’s Militants, Report Says by chaloner(op): 7:19am On Jun 27, 2013
Damascus says the West and its regional allies, such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants.
The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has begun transferring weapons to Jordan in order to arm groups of foreign-backed militants fighting against the Syrian government, a report says.
According to the report by theWall Street Journalon Wednesday, the CIA is moving the weapons “from a network of secret warehouses.”
The report added that Washington plans to provide the militants with “training, small arms, ammunition, and possibly certain types of antitank missiles.”
Saudi Arabia also plans to provide them with “antiaircraft weapons.”
The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
Damascus says the West and its regional allies, such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants.
In an interview broadcast on Turkish television in April, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that if the militants take power in Syria, they could destabilize the entire Middle East region for decades.
“If the unrest in Syria leads to the partitioning of the country, or if the terrorist forces take control… the situation will inevitably spill over into neighboring countries and create a domino effect throughout the Middle East and beyond,” he stated.

Politics › ’Amaechi/Gej: 2015 Elections May Not Be Free And Fair’–Amaechi by chaloner(op):
There was mild drama on Wednesday night at the Banquet Hall of the
Presidential Villa, Abuja, venue of the Presidential dinner organised
by President Goodluck Jonathan, news website, The Eagle Online, is
reporting.
A presidential bodyguard stopped embattled Rivers state Governor,
Rotimi Amaechi, from getting close to President Jonathan to pay
homage.
Mr. Amaechi, who is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum
(NGF), and his loyalists arrived the venue when the event was already
in progress.
They came in from the Rivers Governor’s lodge where they met
earlier for about 15 minutes and then adjourned to honour the
President’s invitation.
On his entourage were Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Ibikunle
Amosun (Ogun); Adams Oshiomole (Edo); Sule Lamido (Jigawa);
Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano); Abdulazeez Kyari-(Zamfara); Muritala
Nyako (Adamawa) and Magartakada Wamakko (Sokoto).
Governor Amaechi, after settling down, got up and made his way
towards where President Goodluck Jonathan was seated in company
of Presidents Joyce Banda of Malawi and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of
Liberia, apparently to pay homage.
However, a presidential bodyguard blocked the governor from
meeting the President. The Governor resisted for a while but had to
return to his seat when it was glaring the bodyguard won’t allow him.
Also, Governor Amaechi, who was seated in company of the chairman
of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswil Amaechi, was not recognised
at the event while Mr. Akpabio was introduced as chairman of the
PDP Governors Forum.
The paper also reported an altercation between Amaechi and
Akpabio. The duo reportedly accused each other of being
undemocratic.
“You are not democratic”, Mr. Amaechi told Akpabio and the latter
insatantly fired back, “You too, you are not democratic”. Few
minutes after that, Governors Amaechi, Fayemi and Oshiomole left
the venue.
On his way out, Governor Amaechi fielded questions from journalists.
The following conversation ensued between him and State House
correspondents.
Is your presence here with other governors an indication that the
problem in NGF has been resolved?
Amaechi: Was NGF sick? I don’t know about factions. We are holding
NGF meeting and we agreed that those of us who were there should
honour the President and attend the dinner, we have attended, you
saw all of them, some have left and I am leaving too
Did you tell Governor Jang there is meeting now?
Amaechi: He was invited. What is my business if he is not there? 16 to
19. Are you not a Nigerian? 16 governors voted for him, 19
governors voted for me. If he does not accept the 19, he is
undemocratic. Anybody who supports him, including television houses,
are also undemocratic.
I have said it in a statement that if at any point in time we cannot
uphold what 19 governors said, then we should be afraid of 2015.
If the PDP is suspending me for that reason, too bad.
We must learn to be democratic. I am not aware that the party has
given any reason for suspending me, if that is the reason, too bad. The
party is yet to give any reason for my suspension. I am not aware
that the party suspended me for winning an election.
What is the way forward?
Amaechi: That is the question to ask Jang and those who are supporting
him. Those with me are in majority.
We have the permission of Eagle Online to republish this story.

.............................................................................................................................................................. Amaechi is in battle with the Oga at the top, will he survive this? This gej suppose to be his father and brother in politics....... What is wrong? Amaechi as for me need to settle wit him........................

At a stakeholders’ symposium to review the 1999 constitution yesterday, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State who has insisted he isthe chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), told his audience that those whoare behind denying him his mandate as the dulyelected chairman of the forum may thwart all attempts to usher in free and fair polls at thenext general elections.
“Let me put it on record that the way things are going, 2015 elections will end in this manner where people will win democratic elections and those in power will not accept theresults”, Amaechi said.
He chided members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for keeping mum while thecrises in the NGF has raged and tasked them to defend the country’s nascent democracy.
“I say it and I want to be put on record that anybody who supports the Jang group is undemocratic”.
Amaechi also bemoaned a situation where State Governors do not have control over Police Commissioners serving in their domain and wondered if Nigeria was really running a federation. Amaechi has had public spats with Mr Joseph Mbu, the commissioner of police in Rivers State.
Last night, the pro Amaechi group of the splintered NGF also shelved its meeting scheduled at about the same time a presidential dinner was slated and attended the dinner instead, several minutes after the pro Jang faction had taken their seats

Cross River State (ACN) has warned the people of
the state to be wary of supporting President

The party reacted to the President’s comment on Nigeria’s

the Bakassi peninsula cedin.
In a statement by its chairman, Mr. Hilliard Eta, said Jonathan’s
comment was a display of “lackadaisical attitude” on issues
affecting the people of the state.
It said, “We have read with consternation and anguish the recent
statement credited to President Gooddluck Jonathan regarding
the criminal ceding of Bakassi peninsula to the Government of
Cameroon.
“How would Jonathan assume any loss or gain to have appealed
against an unpopular verdict, which did not only affect the land
for which our forebears held in trust for their children and
children’s children but also a people bound together by
posterity and culture.
But wait , what wrong wit this ACN? All they do is fighting with their president , this show they can never be the good son we need talk of father. By the way , who is the cause of bakassi problem ? Please leave Gej alone , just support him and work.

Politics › Presidency 2015: Plot To Block Atiku Begins by chaloner(op): 9:41am On Jun 23, 2013
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji BamangaTukur, has every reason to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for saving his job during the week.
When the embattled Tukur looked reporters in the eyes after emerging from the Pre-National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP on Wednesday and said “I am not going anywhere” as the party boss, he knew where he was drawing his confidence from.
Our investigation has shown that Tukur had all the backings of President Jonathan, whom, we can authoritatively report, told the PDP caucus members who attended the pre-NEC session of Wednesday night in un-mistaking language that “Tukur must stay.”
The development, we have learnt, signals the commencement of the grand plot to stop the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from making any meaningful move for the presidencycome 2015.
President Jonathan, who spoke in the language some party chieftains like Tukur himself, the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Tony Anenih, among a few others understood, our source said, knew that sacking Tukur from the exalted office could spell doom for his own 2015 presidential ambition.
We gathered that for now, one man President Jonathan needs and trusts to effectively block the presidential interest of Atiku is Tukur.
We learnt it was even discussed in hush tones in some high level PDP meetings for select persons that Atiku may have infiltrated the ranks of NWC members, hence the idea was muted that the organ be sacked and reconstituted to enable the President choose “his team.”
A source said that Tukur himself was even the person the President and his trusted confidantsused to put a check on the NWC members without their knowledge.
We learnt from a highly authoritative source that at the pre-NEC of PDP on Wednesday, President Jonathan told the gathering pointedlythat: “Whoever is against Tukur is against me.”
According to the source, the venue of the meeting was enveloped in long-drawn silence following the President’s statement, with no PDP member, both high and low, ready to counter him.
“As soon as the President said what he said there was pin-drop silence, not even a word came from all those who were before carrying placard that Tukur must go.
“Of course the President as the leader of the party had spoken and indicated where his interest was. And it would have been suicidal for any PDP member, be he governor, legislator or whatever chieftain, to differ from him.
“As a senior PDP member who has been following developments in our party, I did not need anybody to tell me that the pre-NEC meeting was where Tukur’s fate was to be decided.
“And what the President decides at that point is where the pendulum swings. Therefore, those who were shouting that Tukur would be sacked at the NEC meeting of Thursday were simply jokers and of course, you saw the reaction of Tukur himself a day earlier,” our source explained.
However, Sunday Independent gathered that the reason Jonathan went for Tukur in the first place is yet to be fully realised, hence he would not have dropped him midway.
One of the reasons, this newspaper gathered, is not just about his 2015 ambition but, to “effectively block” the likes of Atiku who is believed to still have the capacity to scuttle that ambition if not checked.
The anti-Tukur campaigners, majority of whom are governors who have been spoiling for war with the President over his re-election bid for 2015, are believed to be forging close ties with Atiku. These governors include Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Nasamu Dakingari (Kebbi).
In the last PDP primaries, even with the goodwill the President enjoyed among these governors, Atiku put up a good showing among delegates from those states. Now that the President’s relationship with these governors is at best sour, the calculation in the presidency is that checkmating these governors could not be left to chance but for Tukur who has already proved himself a reliable ally of the presidency.
Tukur’s unsavory relationship with the governorsstarted when he (Tukur), wanted his son Awwal, to succeed governor Nyako in 2015.
In a bid to help his son actualise his governorship bid, Tukur was said to have engaged Nyako in a power struggle over the control of the party’s structure in the state, a move other governors saw as a dangerous precedent being set by their chairman and if not checked, could also affect them. In a show of solidarity, they vowed to remove him as chairman of their party. But for the last minute maneuvering at the last NEC meeting, they would have had their way.
Meanwhile, in an apparent show of appreciationfor President Jonathan for helping him retain his job, Tukur, in a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Prince Oliver Okpala, thanked the President and other chieftains of the PDP for the successful deliberations of the NEC meeting.

“The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Dr. Bamanga Tukur,CON, hereby thanks His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the Chairman of Boardof Trustees (BoT) Chief Tony Anenih, State Governors and the entire membership of the National Executive Committee of the Party (NEC) for the successful deliberations at the 61st NEC Meeting of the Party held on the 20th of June 2013.
“The National Chairman wishes to express in a special way his appreciation to Mr. President for standing solidly behind the PDP and providing strong and unifying leadership which has made it possible for the Party to be a great political family.
“The National Chairman also salutes those who attended the NEC Meeting for their peaceful, mature, excellent conduct and intelligent deliberations during the meeting,” the statement read.http://www.urhobovanguard.com/2013/06/23/presidency-2015-plot-to-block-atiku-begins/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter
Politics › Okorocha Attacks Orji, Wants APC In Abia by chaloner(op): 8:32am On Jun 23, 2013
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has declared that he is
interested in who emerges as governor in neighbouring Abia State
in 2015; adding that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) has failed in the state.
Speaking when a group, the Igbo Rescue Agenda, Abia Chapter,
visited him on Saturday, Okorocha promised to work with
candidates who possess “the magic wand to turn the fortunes of
the state around”.
“There is political boundage in Abia State which the people
needed to be liberated from,” he said. “This is the time to awaken
our people, as Igbo people are now free. This is the time to
embrace the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Okorocha insisted that the APC, a merger of opposition parties in
the country, remains the best for the Igbos and urged Abia
people to adopt it. He reminded the visitors that late Igbo
leader, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, would have been first to join the
APC from the region if he were still alive at its formation.
Ben Udensi, the leader of the group, said they came to visit
Okorocha in acknowledgment that he is the “true leader of the
Igbo people.”

Politics › Boko Haram Regroups, Invades Borno Towns by chaloner(op): 5:36am On Jun 23, 2013
*Sect’s ultimatum to Christians, civil servants: Leave within seven days
By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri
Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, dislodged by security forces in the wakeof the emergency rule by President Goodluck Jonathan from their Sambisa Game Reserve camps, appear to be fighting back.
Sunday Vanguard was made to understand, yesterday, that they have not only regrouped, they have also sacked at least two major towns in the state.
One of the towns is Bama, where the insurgents struck in the weeks before Jonathan imposed the emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, killing40 policemen, 13 prison warders, three soldiers and several civilians.
The other is Gwoza.
Bama and Gwoza, located along the Sambisa offshore, are said to be the strongholds of Boko Haram, the Islamistgroup fighting to impose Islamic values on Nigeria, a secular state, and campaigns against Western education.
Military forces, who launched a campaign against the insurgents, including air raids by the air force, following the emergency rule imposed in Borno, had claimed that the Boko Harammembers had relocated to Mandara and Gwoza hills among others desert areas of Borno State.
But tales from fleeing Bama and Gwozaresidents arriving Maiduguri, the state capital, yesterday, showed that the insurgents had regrouped and launched fresh attacks on Bama and Gwoza.

Politics › Ruling Party Passes Vote Of Confidence In President Jonathan by chaloner(op): 12:49am On Jun 21, 2013
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, in Abuja passed a vote of confidence in President Goodluck Jonathan.

The confidence motion, which was moved by a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, was unanimously adopted by members of the committee.

The motion was seconded by the State Chairman of PDP in Delta State, Peter Onyelukachukwu

The party said that it was evident that Nigeria had made significant progress in many sectors under Jonathan’s leadership.

“I stand here to move the motion for the vote of confidence in the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“It is important to recall that on the 29th of May 2011, when the President took over the reins of power as the democratically-elected President, he declared that he will never let Nigerians down. I am happy to say that he has kept to his promise. On the 29th of May 2013, two years after, the President presented his mid-term report to Nigerians.

“This was the first time in the history of Nigeria that this kind of democratic adventure was embarked upon by any president. Having gone through the report, it is clear that this administration led by Dr Goodluck Jonathan, who was sponsored and elected under the banner of PDP, has achieved a lot in all sectors.

“It is important to note and to state a few of his achievements: railways, the hitherto comatose railway lines that were not working for decades are now operational. Trains now move from Lagos to Kano and I was privileged to be one of the passengers; two weeks ago, I experienced the ride,’’ he said.

Mantu, in the motion, also commended President Jonathan’s “resolute and decisive tackling” of Nigeria’s security challenges.

He said the administration had curbed terrorism and insurgency in the country, particularly, in the North-East geo-political zone.

Mantu also applauded the on-going reforms and development in the country, especially those in the agriculture, aviation, transportation and education sectors.

He said that it was apparent that President Jonathan’s agenda for national transformation was being diligently implemented and that Nigerians were better for it.

Mantu commended the President’s strict adherence to the rule of law as well as his protection and defence of the constitution.

“The President is discharging his mandate to the appreciation of Nigerians that overwhelmingly voted for him in the 2011 general elections.” It was for this reason and more that the former Deputy Senate President thought it necessary to call for a vote of confidence in the Nigerian Head of State.
