Rivers State governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has said that despite recent calls from the top echelons of his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) over his perceived dispute with President Goodluck Jonathan, nobody can chase him out of the party.
He said this on Thursday, when he featured in an interview programme on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Hardtalk, with Shaun Ley.
He stressed that his ambition now was to pursue the goals for which he was elected.
When asked to confirm his purported ambition torun for the office of the vice president in 2015, which had been said to be the reason he got embroiled in public dispute with President Jonathan, Amaechi said that was just an assumption.
“I didn’t say I want to run for the office of the vice president. I said we must allow 2015 to remain for 2015. Nobody can say by now whether you want to be president or you don’t want to be president.
“Let’s assume that I remain in PDP and want to run for the office of the vice president, will myleaving the PDP not an answer to that assumption?
“Assuming the president wants to run and if the president wants to run and I remain in PDP, thenit means that I have no ambition.
“Those who are assuming that I have an ambition may be making a lot of mistakes, because the place to fulfil that ambition will be in another party, but the reason for remaining in PDP is because nobody can chase me out of PDP. I am a member of PDP and I love to remain in PDP.
“What you must know is that I believe in the ruleof law. Let’s even assume for the purpose of argument that an ambition exists, nobody has theright to bring down a state just because an ambition exists.
“The president is elected to preside over the state for which he has been elected and I support that. I want everybody to support Mr President to preside for the interest of the country,” Amaechi said.

Also speaking on the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) election, Governor Amaechi said the president did not tell him not to contest or otherwise, adding that he contested because there was no law requesting him to tell the president.
“Nobody advised me not to run. I challenge anybody on that. There is no law that requests me to tell him (the president) that I was going to run.
“I didn’t need to go to the president to tell him Iwant to run for NGF (presidency), I didn’t needto do that and I didn’t do that and he, in turn, didn’t say I heard you intend to run, and I ran and I didn’t see the president at the ballot.

Report has it that the mother of the first Lady of thefederal republic of Nigeria Dame Patience Jonathan is feared dead following a motor accident along Elele road in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Mrs. Iwarioba who is from Okrika Local government area was said to be travelling from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa when the accident occurred.
Though the news of the incident it still sketchy but a source who is a Media aidto the lawmaker representing Ogu/boloconstituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly Evans Bipi confirmed to LEGISREPORTS that the late mother tothe first Lady was travelling in a private car when the accident occurred.
The Source also said the Lawmaker representing Ogu/bolo Evans Bipi has deposited the remains of the mother of Patience Jonathan in a nearby mortuary.
The Police is yet to confirm the incident and also the Traffic Agency is also yet to confirm it.

ABUJA — Upset by Senate bid to peg official marriage age in Nigeria at 18, northern youths, yesterday, lashed out at the lawmakers, warningthem not to stoke the embers of religious war over the controversial legislation.
The Senators had last week voted in favour of amending the Nigerian Constitution to set the marriage age at 18, a decision that was promptly challenged by former Zamfara governor, Ahmed Yerima, who described the decision of the lawmakers as anti-Islam.
Apparently joining forces with Yerima, who also initiated Sharia in his state when he was governor, Arewa youths asked the Senators to desist from taking action on the matter so as notto further heat up the polity along religious, ethnic and political lines and create avoidable cold war.
The President of the Arewa Youth Forum, AlhajiGambo Gujungu, said in a statement in Abuja, yesterday, that the Senators had missed the point in amending the law and exposed themselves as people who were confused on whatto do to justify their presence in the upper chambers of the National Assembly.
“The approach by the Senate to this matter shows how grossly insensitive and poorly equipped they are in the rudiments of legislative functions and totally insensitive to thecritical challenges Nigerians are facing as a people,” the AYF leader said.
“The Senate must be told in plain terms since it has lost focus, that their core function as parliamentarians is not to debate, moderate or decide religions for Nigerians, or to divide Nigerians on Christian-Muslim basis or North andSouth factions.
“They must also be made to know that their function does not include breeding religious warfrom their politicization of the Constitution Amendment exercise but to make laws for peace, good governance, stability and indivisibility of the Nigerian Federation as contained in Part II, Section Four (1,2,3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The senators must be told that what Nigerians expect is basically principled oversight functions to address insecurity tearing the country apart, the increasing unemployment rate, collapse of health, education, agriculture and dilapidated infrastructure.

“Another expectation of Nigerians from the Senate is to address monumental corruption being perpetrated with impunity by elected public office holders and top government officials that has stifled Nigeria any meaningfuldevelopment in Nigeria for decades.
